Julia’s POV

I sat in the passenger seat of Elijah's car, staring out the window and thinking about how Grandma Evelyn had treated me.

That old woman doesn’t know what she’s saying!

It made me feel so frustrated that Evelyn never really accepted me as her granddaughter Sabrina. But having her insist that Sophia was the real Sabrina was truly pissing me off.

“I don't want to go home,” I muttered, breaking the silence. “I'll just feel even sadder and lonelier.”

Elijah glanced at me, concern etched on his face. “But Julia, where will you go? Would you rather return to the party? Perhaps some of your friends are still there.”

“No,” I said, frowning. “I’m not in the mood anymore.” Then slowly, I reached out to touch his hand gently. “I’d rather spend the evening at your house, Elijah. Just like old times.”

I was well aware that growing up, Sabrina used to spend a lot of time at his house. I wanted to prove to him that I could really be Sabrina, his long-lost love and best friend.

Sophia’s POVGrandma Evelyn's voice was filled with emotion. “I'm sorry, Sabrina. I just can't bear the thought of you leaving,” she said, her eyes misty. “You’ve been gone for a long time and now that you’re back…” She trailed off, and I bit my lower lip. Gosh, I can’t leave like this. Glancing at Grandpa George, he simply shrugged helplessly. “It's okay, Evelyn,” I reassured her, placing a comforting hand on her arm. “Maybe I'll stay for the night. Anyway, Reese is already asleep now.”Evelyn sniffled, smiling. “You're such a good girl, Sabrina. I don't know what we'd do without you.”I squeezed her hand gently. “I'm Sophia. Remember?”She blinked, confusion clouding her eyes for a moment before she nodded. “Yes, of course, Sophia. You're my Sophia. Also my Sabrina.”I sent a quick message to Reese's nanny, letting her know that Kayla, my best friend, would be sleeping over and that I'd be back in the morning. Evelyn led me to the bedroom that used to belong to Sabrina whenever s

Sophia’s POV“Sophia, how about joining us for a stroll in the park this morning?” Grandpa George suggested as he joined us. “If you don’t have to go yet, it would be great for you to join us. It's Evelyn's daily exercise, and she could use your help.”“I’d love to,” I replied, which made Evelyn smile widely and look quite eager to get started. The three of us made our way to the park, the cool breeze carrying the promise of a beautiful day. As Grandma Evelyn practiced walking, she was unusually cheerful and talkative. She kept sharing stories of Sabrina, which I found entertaining. “Her favorite part was always the slide,” Grandma reminisced, her eyes glimmering with delight. “And she loved playing hide and seek with Elijah. They were inseparable.”The mention of Elijah brought a smile to my face. I could almost see him as a child, his eyes wide with excitement. But amidst the warmth of Grandma's stories, a shadow of doubt lingered in my mind. Could I really be Sabrina? Julia had

Sophia’s POVAm I Sabrina? What kind of question is that, coming from Julia?I gave her a puzzled look, remembering those moments when Elijah and I were just getting to know each other and I thought that he could really begin to care for me and eventually fall in love with me. Apparently, he was just using me as a substitute for Sabrina, I thought bitterly. That’s why he never learned to appreciate and truly love me. “What do you mean, am I Sabrina?” I asked Julia, bewildered. She blinked and suddenly looked flustered. She straightened her shoulders and replied, “I mean, you look like you really want to become Sabrina, you know. And that was probably the reason Elijah became attracted to you in the first place.”A crease formed on my forehead and I felt a surge of annoyance. “It doesn’t matter, we’re divorced already. And no, I don’t intend on taking your place as Sabrina. I’m not sure why your grandmother keeps saying I’m Sabrina, but it’s not who I want to be. I just want to be m

Sophia’s POVI made my way down the narrow aisle of the airplane, scanning the seat numbers until I found mine. The anticipation of attending the design conference in New York with Trevis filled me with excitement and nervous energy.Nevermind if Julia’s there. Hopefully she won’t be weird anymore. Just as I was about to settle into my seat, a familiar voice stopped me in my tracks.“Hi, Sophia!”I turned, and there was Elijah, smiling at me. “Elijah? What are you doing here?”He grinned, a hint of mischief in his eyes. “Business trip to New York. I heard about the design conference and thought I'd drop by. So Trevis and I booked our tickets together.”Before I could respond, Julia, who had been walking behind me, piped up. “Well, isn't this a coincidence? How about we switch places, Trevis?” She didn't wait for a response, immediately taking Trevis's seat next to Elijah.I glanced at Trevis, who shrugged and gave me a reassuring smile. “Guess it's you and me, Sophia.”As we settled

Sophia’s POVThe elevator ride up to the executive suite was enveloped in an uneasy silence. Julia and I stood side by side, the quiet hum of the elevator filling the space between us. I glanced at her reflection in the mirrored walls, noticing the furrow in her brow and the way she kept wringing her hands. When the elevator dinged softly and the doors slid open, we stepped out and walked down the plush carpeted hallway. Gosh, she seems so tense. I wonder what’s going on in her mind. We reached the door to our suite, and I swiped the keycard, pushing the door open. The moment we stepped inside, Julia broke the silence. “Sophia,” she began, her voice wavering, “I need to apologize for the way I acted the other day.”I turned to look at her, surprised. “What do you mean?”She took a deep breath, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I was rude to you. I said some things I shouldn't have. I... I was missing my grandmother a lot that day. Grandma Evelyn... she’s never really accepted

Sophia’s POVThe restaurant Elijah chose was tucked away on a quiet street, its dim lighting and vintage decor exuding an old-world charm. I took in the cozy ambiance, feeling both excited and uneasy. This feels an awful lot like a date. Elijah led me to a corner table and, to my surprise, pulled out my chair for me. “Here you go,” he said with a small smile.“Thank you,” I replied, sitting down and trying to ignore the flutter in my stomach. Elijah had never treated me like this when we were married. It made me wonder if he had changed since I left him.We perused the menu in silence for a moment before the waiter came to take our order. I chose the pan-seared salmon, while Elijah opted for the house special, a hearty beef stew. Once the waiter left, Elijah leaned back in his chair, his eyes softening as he looked at me.“So, how's Reese doing?” he asked, his voice gentle.“She's good,” I said, trying to keep my tone light. “She's been really into drawing lately. It's amazing how fo

Elijah’s POV“It's Adrian,” Sophia whispered, her eyes wide with recognition. “I haven't seen him in a long time. I should say hi.”Before I could react, she was already standing up. I had no choice but to follow her as she weaved her way through the tables towards the entrance. My mood soured with every step. The evening was supposed to be about us, not some guy from her past. Adrian should certainly stay in her past, but somehow, he keeps showing up in her present. I just hate it. And I really don’t trust this guy. As we got closer, the crowd around Adrian began to thin. Sophia looked eager, almost glowing with excitement, which only served to annoy me more. Who is this Adrian to her, anyway? The good evening we were having suddenly felt overshadowed by this guy's presence.Sophia turned to me, her voice filled with enthusiasm. “Adrian's been busy doing local tours for his new single. People are loving him. He's a really great singer and songwriter.”I grunted but said nothing. My

Elijah’s POVAs I stepped into the hotel lobby with Sophia, the exhaustion of the day hit me. I knew she was tired too, so I suggested, "” don't have to get involved. Why don't you go up and get some rest? I'll take care of this quickly and send Julia up to the room.”Sophia yawned, nodding in agreement. “Okay. I hope she's okay.”“I'm sure she will be,” I reassured her, grateful for her understanding. “Thank you for dinner. I had fun. We should do it again soon.”She smiled warmly before heading toward the elevator, leaving me to make my way to the bar. As I scanned the area, everything seemed normal at first. But then, in a corner booth, I spotted Julia, her eyes red from crying.I approached her, and as soon as she saw me, she rushed into my arms, sobbing. I felt awkward at first, not knowing how to react. But then, instinctively, I wrapped my arms around her, stroking her hair soothingly.“It's okay, Julia,” I whispered, my voice gentle. “Everything will be okay. You're safe now.”

It felt like the kind of morning that only came after surviving the storm.Weeks had passed since the chaos faded, and for once, the quiet didn’t feel temporary—it felt earned. I stirred slowly, eyes drifting open to find Elijah beside me, his hand resting lightly over mine. I studied him in the silence, taking in the softened edges of a man who’d carried us through fire and finally found peace.I leaned over and pressed a kiss to his cheek. His eyes fluttered open, and when they focused on me, he smiled sleepily."Morning," he murmured."Morning," I whispered back, letting my fingers trace the line of his jaw. "Can you believe we actually get to wake up like this? No chaos, no danger—just us."He pulled me closer and kissed my forehead. "I could get used to this."Just as I was about to say something, the door burst open."Mommy! Daddy!" Reese called out, followed quickly by Roxy an

Elijah’s POVWe weaved through the cracked streets, deeper into a part of the city that felt like time had forgotten it. Boarded-up windows, rusted signage, buildings collapsing in on themselves. This was the kind of place where ghosts lingered, and today, we were chasing one of them."We’re close," Joe muttered from the front seat, his eyes scanning the GPS on his phone. "This is the last possible location that fits Hugo's hideouts."Antoine sat beside me in the back, silent but focused. His jaw was tight, hands clenched. I still didn’t know if I fully trusted him, but I couldn’t deny this: he was here, risking his neck like the rest of us. And right now, I’d take any edge we could get.I have to find Grandpa George. For Sophia. When we pulled up to the burned-out remains of what once looked like a chapel, a chill shot down my spine. The stone structure still stood, half-charred, the wooden beams above blackened and skeletal. Nature had tried to reclaim it—vines curling around scorch

I couldn’t.Joe and his men fanned out behind me, covering corners, checking every room.We were running out of time. Then—A scream. My heart nearly stopped. It was her.I charged forward, slamming my shoulder into the door at the end of the hall. It burst open—and I saw red.Morgana was on the ground, gasping for air as Hugo’s hand squeezed her throat, and across the room, Sophia was trying to drag herself toward them, her face pale and streaked with tears.“NO!” I shouted, and without hesitation, I raised my gun.Hugo turned just as I fired. The bullet tore through his shoulder. He howled, stumbling back and releasing Morgana, who crumpled to the floor, coughing violently.I crossed the room in three strides and tackled Hugo before he could

Then came the pressure—tight, scratchy ropes cutting into my wrists. My head pounded like a drum, fog thick behind my eyes. Everything smelled like mildew and dust.My eyes struggled to make sense of the shadows. The room was dim, lit only by a weak bulb overhead that flickered like it couldn’t decide if it wanted to stay on. I was on a metal chair, hands tied behind my back, ankles secured to the legs. The air tasted stale and old, like the walls had been sealed off from the world for decades.Panic bloomed in my chest. My brother Chris. What had become of him?I jerked forward, straining against the ropes. “Chris!” I called, my voice hoarse and raw. “Where is he?!”I noticed some movement in the darkness. A shadow stirred in the corner of the room. I froze as a figure stepped out into the light. Tall. Gray-streaked beard. Sunken eyes like old coals. A d

Sophia’s POV“This is insane,” Elijah muttered, rubbing a hand over his face. “We’re relying on Antoine to lead us to Hugo. Does no one else see how crazy that is?”Joe, who had been checking messages on his phone, barely looked up. “We don’t have another choice.”I watched Elijah pace the room, his frustration clear. He wasn’t wrong, but I knew that if there was even the smallest chance of finding Grandpa George, we had to take it.Joe sighed and turned to Antoine. “You sure you can make him bite?”Antoine shrugged. “I know Hugo. He’s a cockroach—he won’t go down without a fight. But if he thinks his last hiding spot is compromised, he’ll make a move. That’s when we strike.”Elijah muttered something under his breath, but I didn’t catch it. Joe’s phone buzzed. As he studied the screen, he said, “We got something. Two possible locations.”Elijah straightened. “Then let’s move.”They all hurried out, and I had the sudden, overwhelming urge to call Elijah back—to make sure he’d pick up

Anyone suspicious? A car, a stranger?”Her red-rimmed eyes filled with fresh tears as she shook her head. “No… nothing. I don’t know how this happened.” Her voice broke. “George was just in his study… and then he was gone.”Elijah placed a hand on my shoulder, grounding me, but I could feel the rage simmering beneath his calm exterior. Haven’t you caused enough trouble?”I inhaled slowly, forcing myself to stay calm. I wasn’t going to let him see me feeling nervous or affected by him. Antoine exhaled, his face unreadable. “I just wanted to talk.”Phoebe laughed coldly. “Talk? You took Jared, Antoine. Without permission. Do you have any idea what you put us through?”“I know,” he admitted. “I made a mistake.”Phoebe scoffed. “A mistake?”I stepped forward, my gaze hardening. “Please, Antoine.
