Alex’s pov

I’m used to getting what I want. I always have things just fall into place for me, like the world bends to my will. So, when I saw her walk back into the room, that familiar smile played on my lips. I assumed she was here to apologize, to make things right between us. But as she passed me, that smile quickly faded. She didn’t stop. She didn’t come to me. Instead, she went straight to the table where that other guy was sitting. They shook hands, exchanged a few words, and then sat down together.

Something twisted in my chest, something sour and unfamiliar. Jealousy, maybe? It made me angry in a way I couldn’t quite control. I clenched my fist, trying to hold back the urge to storm over to them, to interrupt whatever the hell they were talking about. But how was I supposed to do that? I couldn’t figure out how to act in this situation. So I stayed where I was, watching them. She kept laughing at whatever he said, her eyes lighting up in a way that made me want to rip him apart. The more I watched, the more frustrated I became. I hated this feeling. I hated not getting my way.

Then, just as I was about to lose it completely, I saw her gather her things. She was packing up quickly, almost like she couldn’t wait to get out of there. The sight of her rushing away made my blood boil. There was no way I was letting her leave again without talking to me. I moved fast, closing the distance between us in a flash. Before she could slip past me, I grabbed her arm.

She stood and turned. Her body stiffened as my skin brushed against hers. I felt this jolt, an electric shock that shot through me. My heart started hammering in my chest, and that hollow emptiness I’d been carrying around for so long was suddenly replaced with something almost... fulfilling.

"Let go of me," she snapped, trying to pull away.

"We need to talk," I said, keeping my voice calm, controlled. I wasn’t about to make a scene.

"I don’t know you. Get the fuck off me!"

The words stung more than I wanted to admit, but I didn’t let go.

"Why are you denying me? What the hell has happened to you? Do you know how much I’ve been looking for you?"

Her glare could’ve burned a hole through me. She was pissed, and I was only making things worse.

"Get your filthy hands off me!"

"I won’t leave you until you listen to me," I said, my grip firm.

That’s when the man that had been sitting down with her came and that was when I knew his name as Edward. He showed up as if I was about to reap off his heart. He rushed over, looking between us, trying to make sense of the situation.

"You know him?" he asked her. My Genevieve shook her head, and I could see the lie in her eyes.

"She’s fucking lying," I shot back, refusing to let go of her despite her efforts to shake me off.

"Let go of her, you creep! She said she doesn’t know you!"

I shot him a look that could kill. "Mind your business and get the hell out of here."

"She said she doesn’t know you. I’m calling the cops if you don’t let go of her."

I sneered, my anger rising. "Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?"

"And who the hell are you to hold her against her will?" Edward shot back.

By now, a crowd had gathered, drawn to the tension. All eyes were on us.

"I’m her fiancé," I said at once. Edward frowned, glancing at Genie before looking back at me. Genie seemed shocked by what I said, staring at me in confusion.

"Is this a family matter? Should I leave you all alone? I thought you needed help, that's why I came over," Edward said, trying to make sense of the situation.

"I don’t know him. I’ve never seen him before. He’s just a psycho. Please, tell him to get his hands off me," Genie said, her voice shaking and acting as if she had never seen me before.

Even though it felt like a knife had sliced through my heart, I did my best to keep my cool.

"Get your filthy hands off her," Edward demanded.

"And what will you do if I don’t?" I shot back, stepping closer.

"Don’t dare me!" Edward said, venom in his voice, moving towards me slowly.

"I’m not who you think I am. I don’t know you from anywhere. Let go of me!" Genie shouted, pulling away again.

"Is this how you want to keep embarrassing me? For God’s sake, it’s been years since you ran off. I want us to talk. Why are you so damn stubborn?" I said, frustration building in my chest.

"Let go of her and stop making up lies," Edward said, stepping in between us and grabbing my hand to pull me off her.

"Get the hell away from me," I growled. Everything happened so fast that even Genie didn’t see it coming. I shoved Edward away, and he fell into a chair. Without thinking, I pulled Genie closer and kissed her, pressing my lips to hers. Tears welled up in her eyes immediately. With all the strength she had, she pushed me away, and slapped me hard across the face. I could feel the sting, but I ignored it. I cupped her face in my hands.

"It’s you," I said quietly. "Even if you deny it, the taste of your lips told me everything I needed to know."

"You’ve always been a terrible liar. And fuck you for pushing me away!"

"You’re mine, Genie, and there’s no way I’m letting you go now that I’ve found you after all these years of sleepless nights."

"Let go of me!" she shouted, trying to shake my hands off her face.

"Why? Are you scared of what I’m going to do to you?" I taunted.

"Fuck off!" she screamed, pushing harder against me.

"You’re mine, Genie. If I can’t have you, then no one else can."

"I’m not Genie! I don’t know what you’re talking about!" she cried, her eyes wide with panic.

"If you say that one more time, I’m going to kiss you senseless. You’ll beg me to stop," I threatened, my face inches from hers.

Genie hesitated, her body tensing. She swallowed hard but didn’t say anything.

"This isn’t over! I’m going to make you pay for making me worry about you all these years while you hide your ass here."

"Watch your back and stay away from people like him. We’re engaged, remember?" I said, keeping my voice low and dangerous. "I don’t want to see you with any other man, or there’ll be consequences."

Genie’s eyes narrowed. She looked like she didn’t know whether to be furious or... something else. Her anger was obvious, but I could see the conflict in her eyes too.

"You’re insane," she said through gritted teeth. "I don’t know you. Get the fuck away from me." She shoved my hands off her face.

"I’ll be back for you," I said, my words colder now. With that, I stormed out of the café, leaving her standing there, trembling and angry.

Genevieve's pov It was Friday, precisely 3:30 p.m., I walked into Alex’s office while he was busy typing on his laptop. The sound of my knock broke through the quiet hum of the room. “Come in,” he said, his eyes still glued to the screen. I stepped inside and gently closed the door behind me. “Still working?” I asked with a small smile, my voice teasing. He finally looked up, his face lighting up as he saw me. “Yeah, trying to wrap up this report,” he replied. “But I’m glad you’re here.” I walked over and sat on the visitor’s chair across from him, unable to take my eyes off the effortlessly charming man in front of me. He looked so… perfect. “You know I’ve told you not to sit there,” Alex said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument. “Come here!” “Someone might walk in,” I whispered nervously, glancing at the closed door. “That’s my problem to handle,” he said with a smirk, gesturing toward himself. “Come to big daddy.” I felt my cheeks heat up at his w

My breathing went up, and my mouth went dry. I wanted to call out to her, to tell her to stop, but no words came. Instead, I stood there like a fool, watching her hair sway behind her with every step. Her hair… It wasn’t the same. The sleek, golden-brown strands I used to love running my fingers through had been replaced by darker, waiver locks. It suited her, of course it did, but the change clawed at something inside me, like a reminder that too much time had passed. Still, I would’ve recognized her anywhere. Even with her back to me, I knew her. By the time I snapped out of my daze, she was gone. The same ones I saw every morning in the little angel I dropped off at school. I didn’t know how long I stared, My mind was caught in a storm of disbelief and dread. My heart ached, a deep, sharp pain that rippled through me. What the hell was he doing here? And then it hit me. Could he be... the client?“No.” The word slipped out of me, a desperate whisper. I shook my head, trying to take the possibility away. This wasn’t real. It couldn’t be. His mouth quivered as if he was about to speak, and that’s when I snapped out of my daze.“Ge...
