EMMELINE POV

"Emmeline, come now! Your dad is back!" My mom's scream pierced the air.

I dropped my color paintings, racing downstairs with abandon. Nima, my nanny, scolded me for my recklessness, but I couldn't help it – I hadn't seen Father in a year.

The carriage stopped outside, and Father dismounted, his worn leather coat and weary eyes telling stories of distant lands. I lifted my ball dress and flung myself into his arms.

"Easy girl, your old man's waist can't carry you anymore," Father teased, pulling my nose.

I laughed, basking in his scent. Santos Gray, renowned scientist and my role model.

Mother's gentle tap on my head broke the spell. We laughed, entering the house together.

Over dinner, Father shared tales of his revolutionary project. I listened intently.

"Dad, take me to Elgin sometime?" I asked, stuffing food into my mouth.

Mother's lecture on propriety began, and Father's frown deepened. "Elgin's too wild for you."

"I've lived in Dogar all my life; I need experience," I protested.

Father's dismissive gesture sparked anger. I stormed upstairs, slamming my door.

Inside, I fumed. Nineteen and still treated like a child! Elgin, capital of Elton, beckoned – supernatural creatures, beauty, and excitement.

Father insisted it was corrupt, but I yearned for city life.

Frustration fueled my sleep. Mother would chastise me for sleeping in my dress.

As Lord Gray's daughter, I must attract suitable suitors. In Elton, wealth and status mattered more than mates.

Father's voice outside my door pleaded for me to open up, but I feigned sleep.

Later, screams and shouts shattered my slumber. Smoke filled the air – the house was ablaze!

I rushed out, frozen in horror as Nima fell to a sword.

"Run, Emmeline!" Father yelled, pushing me toward the safe room.

I hesitated, witnessing Mother's desperate struggle. A sword sliced through her defenses, and she crumpled.

"No!" Father roared, charging at our attackers.

I heard the clash of steel, Father's grunts, and...

The sickening thud of his body hitting the floor.

My heart shattered. With shaky legs, I fled the room.

Tears blinded me as I stumbled into the forest. Branches scratched my face, and leaves crunched beneath my feet.

But I didn't dare look back.

They knew I'd fled into the forest. The pursuers' shouts and snarls echoed through the trees.

"Find the Gray girl!"

"Kill her!"

Fear fueled my flight. I ran, my breath ragged, my heart heavy.

My feet throbbed in agony, each step a reminder of all I'd lost. The Gray manor, our home, our sanctuary, lay in ashes.

Tears streamed down my face as I stumbled forward, driven by desperation and the faint hope of escape.

Wiping away tears, I gazed up at the starless sky, feeling abandoned by the world. "Why?" I whispered, my voice cracking.

But fate conspired against me. A hidden rock sent me crashing to the ground, my scream echoing through the forest. Pain shot through my ankle, and I curled up, helpless.

The sound alerted my pursuers. As I struggled to rise, searing pain and fear paralyzed me.

Wolves emerged from the shadows, swords pointed at my heart. Their snarls and glares chilled me to the bone.

One stepped forward, his eyes raking over me with a mixture of hatred and lust. "So, this is Lady Gray," he sneered, his voice dripping with malice.

Fear gripped me, suffocating me. I pleaded, "Please...please," my voice barely audible.

The shortest wolf snarled, "Kill her. She's no better than her father." His words cut deep, ripping open the wounds of loss and grief.

But the leader intervened, his gaze never leaving mine. "Death's too easy. She'll pay for her father's sins.." His words echoed in my mind, a haunting reminder of my newfound vulnerability.

As the darkness closed in, I thought of my parents, their laughter, their love. Tears streamed down my face, and I whispered, "Mother...Father..."

A blow to the head silenced me, and everything went black.

Cold water slapped me awake. I jerked upright, disoriented. Where was I? The metallic tang of blood and damp air filled my nostrils.

A squat, rugged man loomed over me, his eyes blazing with hostility. "Wake up, traitor."

My mind reeled. Traitor? What did he mean? And why wasn't he a wolf? Everyone in Dogar was a wolf.

Then, reality hit me like a ton of bricks. I was caged.

Beyond the bars, Elgin's vibrant cityscape unfolded. The grand architecture, colorful market stalls, and bustling streets teemed with supernatural creatures.

Father's paintings flashed through my memory. He'd told me stories of Elgin's wonders.

The man grasped my arm, yanking me out of the carriage. "Stop playing dumb, traitor."

I stumbled, confusion swirling. "Traitor?" How could he call me that? Didn't he know who I was?

Panic clawed at my chest. How did I end up here? Yesterday's horrors replayed in my mind – the attack, my family...

I frowned at the man, my confusion and fear simmering. "Mister, I think you've mistaken me for someone else. I'm Emmeline Gray, and my family was attacked last night. I don't know how I ended up here."

The man's laughter was like a slap, condescending and cold. "Damn all you Grays, always so pretentious."

Without a word, he dragged me into a grand, imposing building. The sign above the entrance read "Werewolf Council" in elegant, curved letters.

My heart skipped a beat as relief washed over me. This was where Father worked; they would help me, clear up this nightmare.

But as we stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted. Hostile gazes and growls greeted me, making my skin crawl. The elegant foyer, with its polished marble and crystal chandeliers, seemed to mock me, its beauty at odds with the malevolent energy.

I felt dread settle in my stomach, heavy as a stone. This wasn't the welcoming sanctuary I'd expected.

The man's grip on my arm tightened, propelling me forward. I stumbled, my bare feet scraping against the cold floor. My dirty, tattered clothes seemed to shame me further.

As we navigated the crowded hallways, scornful whispers followed us. "Gray's daughter...traitor's spawn..." The words stung, each one a tiny knife to my heart.

The buff man ordered me to stand before him, then bowed and left me vulnerable. The leader, seated in the largest chair, rose, casting a scornful gaze my way.

"My brothers and sisters, we have the traitor's daughter among us. Let us decide her punishment."

Confusion and fear gripped me. Traitor's daughter? How could they call me that? Father worked tirelessly to save lives, not betray them.

A familiar face in the crowd offered a glimmer of hope – Anthony Robbins, Father's closest friend and ally. But instead of the expected support, Anthony's expression mirrored disappointment and sadness.

"Santos Gray committed an unforgivable crime against our kind," Anthony said, his voice measured. "However, I believe his daughter is innocent."

The council's angry growls and curses silenced him. My stomach churned with uncertainty.

"What crime did my father commit?" I wondered.

The council leader's snarl cut through my thoughts. "Don't feign ignorance, girl. Your father experimented on werewolves, killing them to find a cure for humans – all for monetary gain."

My shoulders sagged, and I collapsed to the ground, shocked. How could they besmirch Father's good name? He was kind, compassionate, and dedicated to healing.

But the council members' faces confirmed the leader's words – their hatred and anger etched in every line.

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. My father's words echoed in my mind: "It's revolutionary." But what did that even mean now?

The council's accusations swirled around me, a toxic storm that threatened to consume me. I couldn't bear to listen.

Santos Gray, my hero, my role model... How could you?

The council leader's voice cut through my fog. "Emmeline Gray, stripped of her title, will serve as a maid in the Rogue Alpha's manor."

Fear clawed at my chest. What would my life be like? Would I be treated fairly?

Hands grasped my arms, leading me away from everything I knew.

As I stumbled through the crowded hallways, the werewolves' jeers formed a humiliating chorus.

I was Emmeline Gray, no longer a lady, but a servant.

Darkness closed in. "Father, what have you done?" I whispered.

Cedric POV I sat on my bed, cigarette smoke curling around me, the bitter scent lingering in the air. Nightmares still haunted me - the memories of Santos Gray slaughtering my parents."My Lord, are you alright?" Lily, my occasional companion, asked. Her voice was laced with concern, but I wasn't interested.I grasped her wrist, my grip tight. "Out. Get out now."Lily's eyes widened in surprise at my sudden aggression. "My Lord, if I—"I cut her off with a low growl. "Leave."Lily cowered, fear etched on her face, before hastily dressing and departing with a hasty curtsy.I crushed the cigarette beneath my heel and lit another, the flame dancing in the morning light. Lily had ruined my already sour mood.As Cedric Silver, the Rogue King, or Alpha, I answered to no one. Leader of the rogues in Elton, my rule was absolute. The morning bustle of servants and maids filled the air, their noises amplified by my werewolf hearing. Emmeline POV I smiled, my heart racing as I gazed at my mate. He stood tall, his chiseled physique radiating power. His broad shoulders and defined jawline left me breathless. Maybe this place wouldn't be so bad if the goddess had truly led me to my mate. But my optimism was short-lived.As I took a step closer, he pushed me to the floor with a harsh growl. His eyes blazed with hatred, making me tremble."Mat..." I tried to say, but a stinging slap silenced me."It's Lord to you... Lord Cedric to you, spawn of Satan!" he snarled, his voice dripping with venom.I cowered, quivering under the intensity of his gaze. The same look of contempt I'd received from everyone in the manor. The Council had dumped me here earlier than scheduled, and already, I'd faced unimaginable hostility. Some had even spat at me."Lord... Cedric, I am your mate," I stammered, speaking softly, fearful of provoking him further. I'd heard stories from my father about the rogue pack's brutality.Cedric's glare

CEDRIC’S POV I sat on my bed, legs crossed, and glared at Ava, my fiancée. As the Council leader's daughter, our relationship was strictly business. "Why did you come to my manor unannounced?" I scolded, annoyance etched on my face. Gray's daughter, who had collapsed, was already on her way to the infirmary. Ava tilted her head back, incredulous. "We're getting married in the next full moon, and you're still cold to me?" I remained unmoved. "Ava, I'm not obligated to care for your feelings. Now, answer me: why are you here unannounced?" Ava rolled her eyes and poured herself a cup of tea. "My father told me about that...woman serving in the manor. I came to see for myself." I dismissed her with a wave of my hand. "Now that you've confirmed it, you can leave. I have a funeral to plan." Ava opened her mouth to pro

EMMELINE POV I slowly opened my eyes, wincing in pain as the world around me came into focus. I was lying on the forest floor, my body throbbing with agony. Memories of how I got there were hazy and unclear. The black wolf, Lord Cedric, stood before me, his intense stare piercing. His scent revealed he was my mate. Fearful of exacerbating my injuries, I remained still. After several minutes of staring, Lord Cedric let out a warning growl. He huffed and turned to leave. I attempted to call him back, but my voice came out scratchy and coarse. "Help...help me..." I growled, pain searing through my body. The wolf paused, turning to glare at me. Something about his bloodshot eyes sent shivers down my spine. As I lay there, struggling to form coherent words, my energy waned. Pain intensified, and my vision blurred. I tried to focus on Cedric, but his image distorted and faded. A creeping numbness spread through my body, and I felt myself being pulled down into darkness. My eyelids grew

CEDRIC POV“Get out, all of you!” I snarled, irritation seething beneath my skin like a festering wound. My gaze swept across the harem of women scattered at my feet, their delicate features and seductive smiles blurring together as my mind fixated on a single, unwelcome thought.Lily, her face pinched with concern, ventured a question, her voice trembling slightly. “My Lord, if I may ask, have we not served you well? We've done everything in our power to please you, to bring you joy and comfort.” Her words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken accusations.I sighed heavily, pushing Emma off my chest as I rose to light a cigarette. The flame danced, casting flickering shadows on the walls as I inhaled the bitter smoke. It was a futile attempt to calm the storm brewing within me. “It's none of your business,” I growled, my patience worn thin. The women exchanged nervous glances, sensing the darkness gathering around me.“Leave. Now,” I commanded, my voice low and menacing. The women sc

EMMELINE POV I sat in my bunk bed, my mind reeling as Lord Cedric's words echoed in my head: "Become my concubine." It was a command, not a request. Before I could respond, the pack delta, Marci, burst into the room, citing an emergency. Lord Cedric dismissed me, saying he'd request my presence later. As I sat there, lost in thought, Elara entered the room. "What's bothering you? You've been sighing," she asked, eyeing me with concern. I forced a smile and shrugged. "It's nothing." Elara looked skeptical but didn't press the issue. She climbed up to her bunk bed, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I ran my fingers through my tangled curly blond hair, feeling a bit frazzled. The silence between us was palpable until Elara spoke up. "We're getting another roommate tomorrow." Since Bertha and Bethany were beheaded, their beds have been vacant and I expected people to replace them. But not this soon though. Elara leaned down so that she could face me, “aren't you curious to k

CEDRIC POV As I pulled away from the kiss, Emmeline's pupils dilated, her eyes locking onto mine with a desperation that bordered on madness. I yanked her closer, my fingers digging into her waist as our lips clashed in a frenzy of teeth and tongues. The world around us melted away, leaving only the two of us, suspended in a sea of desire."Call me master," I whispered, my breath hot against her ear. The words sent a shiver coursing through her body, and she arched into me, her moans growing louder.I licked the column of her neck, my teeth grazing the tender skin. The urge to mark her, to claim her as my own, was overwhelming, but I restrained myself, barely. "Say it," I growled, my fingers tangling in her hair as I pulled her head back.Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she parted her lips, the scent of arousal wafting up to tease me. "Mas...ter..." The word was barely audible, but it was enough.I smirked, my hands slipping into her garment as she blushed a deep crimson

EMMELINE POV For days, I had been packing the new belongings I'd received as Lord Cedric's concubine into his chambers, just as he had instructed me. The servants all gave me disapproving stares, but none dared confront me, fearing that Lord Cedric would behead them if they crossed me. As Elara and I finished packing, we sat on the bed, panting heavily. "This is the last of it," Elara told me. I used the back of my hand to wipe the sweat off my forehead. Elara turned to me with a curious glint in her eyes. "Everybody is saying that you have seduced Lord Cedric." I frowned, skeptical. "How could someone like me seduce Lord Cedric? He has seen so many women." Elara scoffed, "You're a fair lady, though due to circumstances, you had to serve as a maid in the manor. Your skin is soft as silk." I laughed at her words, but there was no denying the truth in them. Without bragging, I knew I stood out from the other servants in the manor - not just because of my physical appearance, but als

EMMELINE'S POV My body froze, caught somewhere between shock and confusion as Devlin pulled away. He gave me a sly smile.“I’ve always wanted to do that,” he whispered near my ear.A shiver ran down my spine- not one of pleasure, but something else entirely. Devlin’s smile faded the moment he saw my face. “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have…”I didn’t let him finish. I stood abruptly, the chair scraping back behind me, and bolted from the room like my feet were on fire. He didn’t follow. Maybe he understood that I needed space. Or maybe he just didn’t know what to say.I slammed the door shut behind me and locked it, then threw myself onto the bed. My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst through my chest. Why did he kiss me?I chewed on my fingernail, spiraling through a mess of thoughts. Does he actually like me?No. No, I couldn’t go there.I couldn’t let myself believe that—couldn’t believe anyone else would find me lovable. Not after what Cedric did. Not when my own m

EMMELINE'S POV I stared at the sky with a paintbrush in hand—I had requested a canvas from Devlin out of boredom. But unfortunately, I had no zeal to paint anymore. I sat there, staring blankly at the paper as if I had forgotten how to use a brush at all. With a sigh, I dropped it. It’s been like this since I left Elgin. No matter how hard I tried, every thought led back to Cedric—it was almost impossible not to think of him.I couldn’t understand the torture the moon goddess was putting me through. Why give me what others desire so deeply, only to make it feel like a curse? The worst part was that I still couldn't stop thinking about how the pack was faring… even after everything they did to me.A knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts.“Come in. The door’s open,” I muttered, barely glancing up.Belle strolled in with a grin stretched across her face. I frowned immediately—days of being around Belle had taught me to be wary of that grin. CEDRIC POV I watched the rain droplets as they fell into the fountain. The door creaked open, and Ava walked in—she had surprisingly been avoiding me.Without a word, she headed to the inner room to take off her wet clothes. I didn’t bother acknowledging her presence. My mind lingered on the memory of seeing her that night by the lake, talking to an unidentified man. By instinct, I’d started observing her more closely. I noticed she left the manor more often than anyone else.“Where were you?” I asked, turning to face her.Ava frowned, her glare sharp with fury. “It’s none of your business, Cedric!”I rolled my eyes at her outburst. If anyone had the right to raise their voice, it was me. But I needed to tread carefully—I still had no idea what the Council’s plan was.“With the witches ready for war, it’s dangerous to walk around so carelessly, don’t you think?”She scoffed. “As if you care about me, Cedric. Besides, the witches are no longer a threat. We’ve already subdued them.”Su

EMMELINE'S POV For a whole week, I hadn’t stepped out of my room. Belle had been kind enough to bring my meals, never asking too many questions, just offering small smiles and a few gentle words before disappearing again.Lord Devlin had come by more times than I could count—but I’d managed to avoid him every time. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it… he brought me here not just for safety, but to be his bride? It felt like betrayal all over again.A knock pulled me from my thoughts. “Matilda, it’s Belle,” her voice called softly through the door.I stood and opened it and there he was.Lord Devlin stood beside her, his eyes meeting mine, unreadable. I bit my lower lip, not sure what to say or how to act. I couldn’t slam the door in his face—not after all he’d done for me.So I forced a smile and stepped aside, letting them in. “Greetings, Lord Devlin.”He gave me a gentle nod, returning the greeting with that same calm smile that used to make me feel safe. CEDRIC POV My blood boiled as the last warrior returned with the same pathetic report.“I’m sorry, my Lord... we still can’t locate Lady Emmeline.”I was on him in a heartbeat, my hand closing around his throat like a vice. His eyes bulged as I lifted him off the ground, my voice low and venomous.“Keep searching for her,” I snarled. “Don’t return without her or I’ll skin you alive.”His legs kicked as he struggled for breath. I released him, and he collapsed to the floor, gasping.“Get out now!”He scrambled to his feet and ran like death itself was at his heels.I sighed, dragging a hand through my hair as I paced the room, boots striking the marble floor in an impatient rhythm. A full week of relentless searching. And still—nothing. No trace. No scent trail. No signs of struggle. Just... gone. After Ava's pathetic attempt at deception, I forced her to take me to the dungeon where she claimed Emmeline had been locked away. EMMELINE'S POV The journey to Dogar was far more stressful than I’d anticipated. The rain was relentless, drumming steadily against the carriage roof like an unending echo of my thoughts.I leaned against the carriage wall as the coachman pressed on through the downpour. Lord Devlin remained silent throughout the trip—lost in his own world, it seemed. His brooding expression mirrored the storm outside. My fingers tapped endlessly against the wooden paneling, a futile attempt to clear my thoughts of Cedric. But it wasn’t working. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t erase the image of his eyes when he told me he loved me.How could that look have been a lie?Maybe my father had been right all along. Maybe I was too naive to survive in Elgin. But then again… his actions had left me with no choice.“Are you alright, Emmeline?”Lord Devlin’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to him with a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.“I’ll be alright,” I replied, trying to convince m

CEDRIC POV I stood in my room, staring out the window as rain battered the rooftops of Elgin. It poured relentlessly, like the sky itself mourned the choices I’d made. The wine burned down my throat, but it did little to quiet the storm within me. The silence in the room was loud, oppressive.Ava’s help came with a price—marriage. To protect my pack, I agreed. It had to be done.I slipped the ring from my finger and tossed it into the cupboard without a second thought. There was no love in my heart for Ava. Not even a flicker. I knew what I did had shattered Emmeline, and though it gutted me, my pack would always come first.Still… I couldn’t shake the feeling that the Council had their own reasons for approving the union. Their timing, their push—it all reeked of manipulation. But I’d deal with them later.Right now, there was a war knocking at our gates, and I had to lead. When this is over… I’ll find Emmeline. EMMELINE'S POV Tears streamed down my face as I stumbled into the room. My legs gave out, and I collapsed to my knees. The pain hit me all at once; it was sharp, suffocating. Like someone had reached into my chest and ripped out my heart with their bare hands.“Why?” I gasped, my voice hoarse and cracked. “Why did you make me believe you loved me?”Was this my punishment for my father's sins? EMMELINE'S POV I stared out the window with a soft smile. Ever since Cedric’s confession, I’d been in such a good mood. It felt like the goddess had finally taken pity on me… or maybe, just maybe, I’d finally redeemed myself.Grinning, I dipped my brush into the paint again and brought it to the canvas. I’d been working on a portrait—one of Cedric and me by the lake. I couldn’t shake the look on his face when he told me he loved me. It had etched itself into my memory so deeply, I had to capture it.I was so lost in thought I didn’t even hear the footsteps until there was a knock on the table beside me. I jumped slightly and rushed to move the painting.I carried it to the inner room and quickly draped a sheet over it. I didn’t want anyone seeing it—not yet. It felt too personal, too precious. When I turned around, a smile stretched across my face at the sight of Cedric standing in the doorway, holding a tray of food.I raised a teasing brow. “A lord bringing food for this lowly con
