Lenka's POV

When that woman came, I didn't think of her as a guest I wanted to welcome, but I couldn't do anything to get rid of her.

She was present before me like a compulsion, which she did on purpose. Ava sat with eyes that looked confident. She was created with near-perfect beauty, so it's only natural for her to be overconfident.

I felt tired just looking at her, especially considering what had happened recently.

Ava's eyes are so clear. She grew up full of love and had a strength that made her life comfortable. "You must feel surprised by my arrival."

Something felt strange.

Surprised and pressured, she showed me who really ruled this house. I was getting frustrated.

After my fingers bent the book, I held it more firmly, and I managed to move my hand to write something down. [What brings Miss Ava here? Michael might not like her.]

"Of course. Because he doesn't like me spending time with a troublesome woman like you." Her words were so piercing that I silently watched the woman.

I nodded, went back to writing, and showed her. [We're not supposed to meet, Miss Ava.]

I know that Michael loves Ava very much. It was too obvious, and I wasn't blind. Not just me but everyone in the house, including the servants.

My hand moved again to write something to her.

[Congratulations on your relationship.]

I didn't want to write that, but the uncomfortable feeling made me do it.

I looked at the woman, seeing her suddenly smile. Her eyes sharpened.

She looked furious. "Are you insulting me?"

I frowned. [I'm just giving you and Michael my congratulations.]

I wrote it down quickly. Isn't what I just did a compliment that should make her happy?

Ava definitely doesn't want to lose to anyone. She always wants to be on top of everything.

Everyone in this house doesn't care about my emotions, so I bottled them up like drowning in a vacuum.

It gave me pressure.

I held my pen and book tighter. It was uncomfortable, and I wished this woman would leave here soon. I don't want to see her face.

Ava doesn't say anything. I can see her hands clenched into fists. She's still filled with emotion.

I remember the things she did, not wanting to go through what she did again in such a short time. My body still hurts.

My hand went back to moving the pen on the paper. [Miss Ava better leave. I'm tired.]

The woman hit the table hard. Emotions suddenly escalated severely.

I looked at Ava, who was already looming over me, standing with both hands clenched tighter and tighter. She looked furious again.

"You're not polite at all. Realize your position!" she roared.

I winced, uncomfortable with her voice that seemed to penetrate my ears too profoundly.

One of her fingers pointed, pressing one side of my shoulder hard a few times. While speaking. "You're that, somehow very annoying in my eyes."

"You're a nobody here. Michael loves me. He's already given me the position of hostess, and you? I don't know." She snorted smugly.

I heard her speak, boasting of her status until her mouth should have been foaming at the mouth, but her gaze was still sardonic.

She shamelessly told me everything else I knew and also what I didn't entirely want to know. The woman looked proud.

She seemed to be done talking.

I opened another page, writing a response with a suitable nickname for her. [Very well, Your Highness.]

I was wasting my time just listening to her talk.

I was fed up. I just wanted to quickly end our conversation, which was more like a female monologue, and not face her again.

She was exalting herself to me, comparing our positions, when she didn't need to do all that to prove herself.

I already knew, but the problem was with someone else. Michael. That woman just didn't know or was being stubborn...

Still, I could see Ava's cold, condescending gaze on me.

That woman never gets tired of doing it.

She already had everything, a good life, including a mouth that could talk, but she still chose to annoy me.

I didn't understand what was wrong.

She asked me out initially, but it also made me feel like I couldn't respond appropriately to her words. We were clearly not on the same page.

My hand was suddenly sore.

The next thing I knew, my book had been roughly pulled out and slammed to the floor until it was torn apart. My pen was also thrown to the other side of the room.

I clasped my hands, blowing on them to ease the stinging sensation in my palms. The surface was already red.

"Stop writing!" Her words pierced my ears again. I just stared at him.

She pointed at my face. "You make me sick. That face of yours, the weird hand gestures, and now the writing, it's just pissing me off. You mute!"

I smacked my lips. She thinks I want to be like this? The sound was so exclusive that I knew I might never get it again.

From what had happened before, I knew that fighting him was futile. I would just be the final recipient of the unpleasant part.

I didn't want to, but silence was the safest action.

She still had servants, while I had no one or anything to hold onto.

I was backed into a corner. I looked back at her.

The woman's gaze was sinister. "I'm sick of you. Who are you? How dare you ask me to read."

I paused. My emotions were running high, but I kept them in check. Should I show this writing on the wall? She wanted my response and was now being stupidly selfish.

She exhaled harshly. "You."

I looked at her with my mouth clamped shut.

"I'll just get to the point." Her eyes looked even colder.

"I'll help you escape from here. Do you want to?" The thin, high corner of the right lip.

How arrogant of her.

Lenka's POV I stared at the woman. She looked confident, waiting for me to answer positively, but I had other interests. She did manage to guess my wishes. She was not blind in this situation. I exhaled as I stood and walked to get a pen and a torn-looking book. I patted the book. The paper was already wrinkled, and one side was almost split. What I was doing seemed to annoy Ava, especially because I seemed to be ignoring her words. I could hear her chattering but didn't look at her, choosing to write first. [Why do you want to help me, Ms. Ava? It's so sudden.] I realized that we had never been close to each other. In fact, the woman's attitude was closer to hating me than liking me. I wasn't much different, either. Michael was always by her side. Their mafia family was supportive and would become even more significant. She was considered perfect, while I was just an incomplete woman. I felt uncomfortable and sick. Her shoe marks were still visible on my scarf, as was the

Michael's POVI threw the bottle across the room, nearly hitting the useless fools who couldn’t complete their task as I had expected. My mood was foul, and a deep sense of displeasure surrounded me.Leaning forward slightly, no longer resting against my chair, I glared at them, who dared not move from their positions—as they should. Their bodies and clothes were stained with blood and traces of whiskey.I was in no mood to tolerate trivial matters today."Useless," I spat, my gaze cold. "Have you still not found that woman?"The task should have been simple—tracking down someone who had fled. All they had to do was locate a person who had lived in this house for over two years. Yet, even after all this time, they had failed to bring me any results. It had been a week.My patience had run dry. I was sick of their incompetence—they should have completed this task much faster.Their target was nothing more than a mute woman. A helpless woman with no acquaintances, no connections to anyo

Michael's POVThe woman stepped forward, completely unfazed by what I had just said. As always, Ava acted as if she was extraordinary and could do whatever she wanted.“Michael, you can’t do this. Remember, we have an agreement about our marriage,” she said. She placed her hands on the table, leveling her gaze with mine. “You know that the wedding has to happen soon—for the sake of our precious organization.”“I know.” My eyebrow arched. She talked too much.“You don’t need to remind me of something we’ve already discussed. If there’s anything else, you can talk to Diego about it.”The marriage between us would happen, but it wasn’t something I was in a rush to do. There were too many things to take care of—like overgrown shrubs that needed trimming. Even she, as his daughter, should understand that.Regardless, our marriage would serve as a solid foundation to strengthen the alliance between my mafia group and hers. And they were the ones who proposed it first.Sensing an advantage,

Lenka's POVI pulled my legs close together, fidgeting with my fingers as a restless feeling stirred within me.My gaze drifted to the sky, searching for something new to focus on. The clouds were thickening and darkening—it was getting cloudy. But I also knew that the day was growing late.I had seen the sun begin its descent from its peak, casting fleeting shadows over the small garden at Jonas’ house. For a moment, the place was dim, until the automatic garden lights flickered on.I looked around once more. There were no other houses nearby, just a vast empty yard overgrown with wild grass and untended weeds. The only exception was Jonas’ garden, a small, well-kept space with lush trees along parts of the fence. From time to time, a gardener would come to tend to the plants and trees whenever Jonas was too busy to do it himself. But aside from that, no one else ever came here.I felt a little lonely, but this was far better than the overwhelming presence of people I didn’t want to

Lenka’s POVI was playing with Felix in the room.Several books were stacked up—some we had already finished reading together, while others remained untouched. Scattered around were toy cars and a chessboard we had played with earlier. My son’s face grew gloomier by the minute. It seemed like he couldn’t hold back any longer and finally decided to speak his mind. His gaze no longer sparkled with excitement as it usually did.“Mom, why have we been staying at home all the time lately? I’m so bored. I want to go outside.”I looked at him with a small smile, knowing this moment would come sooner or later. No matter how much I tried to keep him occupied, there was only so much patience a child could have when it came to playing indoors. He needed space, an open area—not just the confines of our home.Gently stroking his head, I tried to soothe him. “Mom just wants to rest for a while. And the weather outside isn’t good, so it wouldn’t be a good idea to spend time outdoors, Felix.”My son

Lenka’s POVI remained silent on the way home, still unable to believe that I had spent the entire day playing with Felix and that man.My son had enjoyed it the most, but I had no real complaints—so long as Michael kept his mouth shut and didn’t speak to me.For the most part, he focused on my son, taking him to multiple rides, while I spent most of my time waiting in one spot. I used exhaustion as an excuse, not wanting to cause any trouble while Felix was having fun.He was the one who drove us home.I wanted to refuse, but my son was too exhausted to wait for a ride, and I didn’t have enough money to book a taxi.Within minutes, we arrived in front of our house.Felix immediately stepped out after politely thanking him, and Michael accepted it well—but he didn’t extend the same courtesy to me."Wait."I was just about to step out, without a word, when he stopped me. I glanced at his hand, making him quickly withdraw it before turning his gaze toward me.He raised an eyebrow. "Aren

Lenka’s POVI walked out of the Ferris wheel and immediately exhaled a long breath. That was the most thrilling experience of my life, which, in reality, was not dangerous, but it made it impossible for me to feel at ease.I tried to act normal, but the fear still wouldn’t go away.In the end, I gave up and continued holding onto Michael, who was accompanying my son to enjoy the Ferris wheel’s atmosphere, while I kept my eyes on the floor.Felix followed me down after I got off, reaching for my still-trembling hand and holding it. His gaze was directed at me, looking curious."Are you scared of the Ferris wheel, Mom? I shouldn't have asked you to ride with me. Your face looks pale."I closed my eyes for a moment before looking back at him and shaking my head. I didn’t want to make my son regret asking me to join him on this ride.A faint smile appeared on my face."I'm fine. It’s just that I didn’t have breakfast this morning."His eyes widened. "Really? But you always tell me not to

Lenka's POVIf it weren't for Felix's request, Lenka wouldn't have wanted to fulfill her child's wish. The three of them walking together seemed like a small family.Felix had invited both her and Michael to a festival in the city.He was in between us, holding each of our hands and swinging them joyfully. He was truly happy.I couldn't bring myself to protest again when my child invited that man once more."Mom, Mr. Michael saved us. I want to take him out so he doesn't just stay at the café all the time. So, please don't refuse."From there, my child truly knew how to stun me. Even with an excuse he had used many times, which was true.It was me who couldn't be honest about the real reason behind my resistance when facing Michael.I just stayed silent, not saying much during our journey until we finally arrived. My mind was wandering, and I didn't want to keep looking at that man.Still, it was Michael who broke my thoughts."Would you like some gelato?"I looked at him and then at

Lenka’s POV“Won’t you be serving that cake, miss?”I snapped out of my thoughts, blinking and then looking toward Tina, then at my hand holding the tongs.I was supposed to have served the cake to the guest my staff was attending to, but there was no longer a line at the cashier, and he was just staring at me, waiting for me to serve his order. It seemed like I had been standing still, doing nothing, for quite some time.I swallowed, took the cake, arranged it on a plate, and handed it to Tina. “Sorry, I almost forgot about it.”“It’s alright, miss.”She quickly took the cake to a guest, while I stood there in silence. My conversation with the man still lingered in my mind. I felt frustrated, but I also couldn’t fully blame him for taking the opportunity. He was the type of person he was—a mafia boss and businessman who knew exactly what steps to take. I thought that he probably applied the same approach when dealing with me.I wasn’t as skilled as he was, and the only business I had

Lenka's POVI sat across from Michael, still struggling to process his earlier words. I couldn't believe it.I already knew that he never ended up marrying Ava—he had confirmed it himself. But beyond that, I had never sought out any more information about them.Their relationship had never seemed anything but harmonious in my eyes.Well, that woman always exaggerated their affection, flaunting it in a way that only deepened my pain, while he never rejected her advances.Years ago, I had assumed they would end up together and that their two groups would unite. But reality was far different from what I had imagined.Instead, she caused trouble and ran away. She never became the partner Michael had always claimed to want and cherish. What really happened between them?I looked at him, forcing myself to stay composed. Lenka’s POVLately, I’ve realized that I’ve been paying more attention to Michael than before. That man always seems to be within my line of sight, making me want to look at him even without meaning to. As if my café has somehow become an inseparable part of him.A strange feeling wraps around me.I try to hold myself back, not wanting to show him that I keep watching him—especially when I saw that woman approach him.I also notice that he has been looking at me more often, but I fight the urge to meet his gaze. When the woman finally leaves, he leans back in his chair, looking relaxed. Michael's POVI was already seated in my usual spot—at Lenka’s coffee shop, with a cup of coffee and a croissant.Nothing was too different, except for a certain feeling that made this visit feel more special than the previous days. After my conversation with that woman, it felt like we had reached an unspoken agreement, as if our hearts had aligned. I truly believed this was the beginning of something good.No arguments. No misunderstandings like before.Maybe we weren’t completely close yet, but I could sense that she was starting to open up to me.She no longer looked at me with cold or sharp eyes. Instead, she was calmer, able to have a conversation with me like any ordinary person would. We weren’t a couple—not yet—but for me, this was already more than enough.I took a sip of my coffee, savoring its distinctive aroma and the bittersweet taste that lingered on my tongue. The croissant smelled even more fragrant, even though it was no longer warm. What… what did you just say to me, Lenka?"She frowned and pulled her hand away—easily, because I let her. But she didn’t refuse to answer. She let out a deep breath."I said thank you. For helping me. Not just once, but twice now—you saved me and Felix when we needed it."She looked tense, but I could tell her words were genuine. After how she had treated me whenever we met at her coffee shop recently, after our last conversation… this was the first time she had been this kind to me.No anger.
