∆IVORY∆
"Then let’s mingle," I said, crashing my lips onto his before he could say another word, I can feel him stiffened for a minute, probably shocked out of his mind, once he got into it, he didn't waste a minute to deepen the kiss, turning if from a peck to passionate one, making my legs wobble. Gently breaking the kiss, he placed his hands on my shoulders. "You," he said, with a smooth and amused tone, "You’re drunk." "You? Do I look like a thing to you?" I scoffed, pushing him back with an irritated look, as the way he called me, 'you' reminded me of the memories of how Jacob used to refer to me, instead of using my name, "Call me Ivory, or better yet, call me the woman who’s about to forget all about a certain jerk named Jacob, don't I appear like a human with a name?" He chuckled, with a low yet sexy tone, "Ivory, sounds interesting, well, I don’t know what jerk did to you, but he must’ve been an idiot to let go of someone like you." "Exactly!" Pearl shouted from behind me, looking proud at his statement. "See, even this hot guy thinks of me as best, unlike that blind rogue," I said while hiccuping, and pointing at him with a victorious grin. The man’s lips twitched, but he didn’t correct me. Instead, he reached into his pocket and handed me a business card. "Here," he said with a wink, "Call me when you’re sober, I’d love to hear more about this Jacob character." I took the card, squinting at the name, "Mr. Hot-and-Mysterious," I said, struggling to pronounce his actual name through my drunken haze. "I think hot and handsome man suits you more than this name." "You can call me anything you like," leaning closer to me, he whispered in my ear, and with that, I stumbled back to my table, as the handsome man left from there with a bemused expression and Pearl laughing so hard she nearly fell off her chair. "See?" I said, holding up the card like a trophy I had won, "Told you I could find someone better just in one attempt." Pearl wiped tears of laughter from her eyes. "You’re insane, baby girl, but you’re my kind of insane." "Damn right," I said, clinking my glass against hers again, as tonight I don't want to be perfect for anyone, I want to live for myself, and the way that gives me satisfaction. That night, for the first time in years, I laughed until my stomach hurt and let myself forget all about Jacob, I'm not even sure when we stopped drinking or by what we reached home. The next morning, a loud ring of mobile woke us up, I kicked Pearl, "yahh! Go and answer your call, don't disturb my sleep." She kicked me back, making me fall from the bed, "it's your mobile, not mine." This hangover, taking over my life, the pain is so huge, but the moment I answered the call, the growl of my mother got rid of the entire hangover, "Ivory, you bitch, where the hell did you go last night? I want you home within an hour." She hung the call before even I could respond, I'm furious enough to throw my mobile, but broke enough to pull myself back from taking such a decision as I don't have enough money to buy a new mobile. Getting up from the floor, I went to get fresh up and ready to go home, Pearl asked with a sigh, "going to that hell?" I nodded reluctantly, and left her house, only to step into hell just as Pearl asked, I knew it wouldn’t be good, but nothing could’ve prepared me for the venom in their words. "Do you think, you deserve to be Jacob’s wife, with a slutty character of yours?" My mother shouted, throwing the tea cup in my direction, thankfully it didn't reach me but fell on the floor. My father joined her, with his voice full of disgust. "Jessica was always meant for him. If we had found her sooner, none of this would’ve been necessary, how dare you to question their relationship and hurt them with your actions, we fed and raised you, if not because of us, you would've been on the streets, you orphan dog." I felt something inside me crack, a deep pain splitting through what little hope I had left that they might care for me, Jessica held mother's hand, "mom, please don't scold her, she is just jealous that I might take her things away, as she used to be your daughter in my place." "Her things?" My mother scoffed, "there's no such thing that belongs to her here, they were never her's in the first place, even this engagement belongs to you, Jessica." "That's why, I broke the engagement," I said, with a cold yet weak voice, "I don't want something that doesn't belong to me." Jessica feigned extreme sadness as she wiped at nonexistent tears. "Ivory, it’s all because of me, isn’t it? I should leave, I never meant to come between you two, you don't have to break your engagement, I'll not meet Jacob again." I wanted to laugh at her actions and words, I knew her dramatic behaviour very well, especially those crocodile tears of her, but I didn’t react, I just stood there, silent. "You don’t need to explain yourself, Jessy,” Jacob said, his voice soft and affectionate in a way, he never been with me, "she doesn't deserve your explanation or kindness, she is so adamant and arrogant, leave her." Jessy? A nickname? So wonderful, In seven years, Jacob never once called me by anything but my full name occasionally, as most of the time he doesn't even use my name to call me, and now, here he was, calling her Jessy like it was the most natural thing in the world. "You know Jessie has a weak body and not in good health, despite knowing all these, still you're hurting her, apologise to her right now," Jacob demanded, with a harsh tone. "Do it, and I won’t take this any further, I might even forgive you." I stared at him, stunned. "Forgive me? For what? For being foolish? No body apologised to me for how they treated me, instead all blaming me for how I reacted, isn't it funny?" My silence darkened his face, and he stepped closer. "Do it, or I’ll break the engagement." "I did it already, the moment I threw the ring away, it shows, I already broke everything with you, why bother about breaking it again?" I said, with a sharp and unwavering voice showing my strength. Jessica rushed toward me, grabbing my hand with her cold, trembling fingers. "Ivory, don’t do this, if you hate me, I’ll leave home, please, I never wanted you to be sad because of me, I'm extremely sorry." Before I could pull my hand away, she stumbled back, and threw herself to the ground, as if I pushed her down. "How dare you push my daughter?" My slapped me hard before I could even say anything, the pain on my cheek was nothing compared to the words that followed. "You’re an evil wench," she hissed beating me harshly, "We made a mistake bringing a bitch like you home, you’re ungrateful, selfish, and vicious. From today, you are no longer a part of this family." Jacob who is already holding Jessica in his glanced at me with those cold eyes, "I don't want to see your face here after, get lost!" I had more than enough here, so turned to leave, but my father’s voice stopped me. "I never thought you’d grow up to be so disappointing, I’m disgusted to call you my daughter." I paused at the door, while my hand trembling on the handle. Without turning around, I said, "Disgusted to call me your daughter? Did you ever treat me as one in the first place?"∆IVORY∆"You ungrateful bitch!" My mother's voice followed me as I walked away closing the door with a loud thud.I didn’t turn back, no matter how hard she shouted. I couldn’t either, if I did, I knew I might break, and I refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing me crumble. For a moment, I stood in the empty streets, staring ahead with a blank face, clutching the straps of my bag tightly, I'm controlling myself not to be weak enough to end up in tears.I wasn’t just walking out of their house, I was walking out of their lives, their control, and all the heartbreak they had caused me over years.I went to the flat of Jacob and mine, but it had always been more mine than his. He didn’t like living with me, always finding excuses to stay in his own place. "I’ll come back tomorrow," that's all he said from the day I graduated and moved to live with him, but that tomorrow never seemed to arrive till now. This flat was just another reminder of the emptiness I’d felt for so long
∆IVORY∆"Is this how we always meet eachother?" He whispered in my ear, I stood frozen, as I'm still unable to come out of the shock."How come…?" I finally managed to mutter, of all people to show up here, why is this man?The same man I had kissed in a drunken state at that bar weeks ago, and now he was standing in front of me, smirking like he owned the world, I totally forgot about that embarrassing incident thanks to my family, and my efforts to find a job.Noticing my silence, he leaned closer, "Don’t tell me you’re pretending not to recognize me, Ms. Ivory." Heat flooded my cheeks as I instinctively took a step back, keeping the distance in between us, but his teasing smirk only deepened looking at my embarrassed state. Before I could respond, Jessica’s friend sneered, "Shameless woman, always ready to seduce men, someone like you deserves to be taught a lesson."She grabbed a glass of drink from the table and raised it toward me. I almost expected the drink to be spoiled on
∆IVORY∆"What kind of work are you talking about?" I knew it was a stupid question yet, I asked, as I looked at him, all I could see was his playful smirk, "What kind of work do you want to do apart from working by my side in the company?" I sat stiffly in the car listening to him, his words truly left me embarrassed."I guess you’re talking about a role in your company?” I had said, trying to keep my voice steady hiding the awkwardness.Leaning slightly toward me, Alexander rested his hand on the armrest between us, and I can see his sharp gaze fixed on me, while teasing me, "If not that, what else did you think I meant?" I stammered as my cheeks turned red out of embarrassment, "Nothing!" I adjusted my hair, avoiding his intense gaze.Alexander chuckled, leaning back in the seat, "Well, Ms. Ivory, what’s your answer?" Taking a deep breath, I met his eyes with a determined look, "I'll do it, but not for revenge, just to prove my worth, I let go of the past already." He passed a s
∆IVORY∆"Do you think I'm someone who likes to joke with a serious face?" Alexander asked while taking a sip of wine, I shook my head quickly, "I didn't mean that, I'm sorry." Placing the wine glass gently on the table, he looked at me with a steady gaze. "Apologizing too often doesn’t mean you don’t want to hurt others, it makes people assume you’re guilty. You need to change that mindset of yours. Stop thinking you have to be obedient just to earn someone’s love. If they truly care about you, they’ll love you for who you are. You don’t have to make endless sacrifices or be unconditionally obedient, for people who wouldn’t do the same for you. It’s not worth it." This man, why does he speak in a way as if he knows everything about me? Apart from a gentle hum, I couldn't respond anymore to his words. We continued having the dinner in silence, at the end of dinner, a man arrived, "Mr. Kingston, what a pleasant surprise!" "Karlo," Alexander smiled at him, it's a smile different from
∆IVORY∆"Here is your cup of hot chocolate!" Pearl giggled placing the cup on my table, "you've been working tirelessly, don't you feel tired?" Stretching my arms, I groaned, "of course it's tiresome, but I want to give it a try." Nights turned into dawns as I worked tirelessly on my startup. The idea of stepping into the perfumery world was exhilarating yet terrifying. The perfume I had created years ago sat on my desk, mocking me with its existence. It was my first and only creation, a scent I had poured my heart into, but now, it felt inadequate. Would this simple formula stand a chance in the grand world Alexander was pulling me into?"Is this the perfume you made?" Pearl asked curiously taking one of the bottle into her hands, I nodded nervously, "yes, why don't you try it first?"Her eyes sparkled in excitement, "Really?" I hummed, she immediately sprayed the perfume on her wrist and smelled it, I noticed the change in her expression, and panic rose in me, "is it that bad?
∆IVORY∆"You," The moment Jessica’s hand made its way toward me, I flinched, expecting a harsh slap to touch my cheek. But her hand didn't touch my cheek, instead, Alexander caught her wrist mid-air, with a firm grip."What are you doing? Leave my hand," Jessica shouted at Alexander, I also tried to stop him, but his glare at her is stern. "You’ve no right to behave like this with her," he said with a calm yet authority filled tone. "Apologize to her right now." He let go of her hand harshly, rubbing her wrist where Alexander held, Jessica’s face twisted with anger. "I won’t! Why should I apologize to someone as pathetic as her?" I couldn't help but to feel bad because of her words, the humiliation I always go through because of her words is too painful, but before I could respond, Alexander scoffed, with a sharp expression. "I never expected the Collins family to raise such an uneducated and unethical daughter like you. Is this how you behave in public?" I reached out to him,
∆NO POV∆"Thud!" The Collins household was in chaos for the past few days.Sarah Collins, mother of Jessica paced in the living room, her hands curled into fist as she threw the TV remote on the couch, "every news channel, social media, even magazines and newspapers are talking about that stupid perfume! What on earth is happening here?" The sound of glass shattering echoed from upstairs, making her wince."Baby, stop breaking things!" Sarah shouted gently, though she made no real effort to go upstairs and confront her daughter. Instead, she turned to her husband, Bernard, who is seated on the couch with a frown on his face."I still can’t believe that girl," Sarah sighed, shaking her head in disbelief. "Ivory, of all people! Who would’ve thought she would get this far with something as ridiculous as making perfume? I scolded her for hating that odd habit in the past, but now people are actually buying it, she is gaining fame and profit over that stupid hobby of hers!" "Ungrateful
∆IVORY∆"Ms. Ivory, we are honored to invite you as a guest to our press conference, Aromatic Aspirations: Celebrating New Brands." The message on my phone is still so unreal, I reread it multiple times making sure it isn't a dream."Finally, my bestie is a celebrity!" Pearl jumped on me to hug, breaking my chain of thought. Immediately I received a call from them, as soon as I answered the call, "Hello, Ivory speaking." "Hello Ms. Ivory, I'm Carla, an assistant assigned to you for this event, we would like to get your address, so that we can send a car and entry pass to you, is it okay with you?" Carla gently spoke, Pearl is already overjoyed hearing it..Though I'm nervous, I finally said, "Sure, I'll share my address with you, by the way is it possible for me to bring my friend along with me?"I don't want to leave Pearl alone, she has been a part of my journey till now, and played a crucial role in encouraging and helping me, Carla immediately responded, "Of course you can brin
∆NO POV∆"Jacob...." Jessica groaned in pain, Jacob gently held her hand, "you'll be fine, don't worry." The hospital waiting room was cold, not just in temperature, but with everything. The sterile scent of antiseptic lingered in the air, mingling with tension so thick it pressed down on everyone’s chests.Jessica had been wheeled into the emergency room barely twenty minutes ago, screaming in pain, blood soaking through her pale pink designer dress. The chaos of the press conference now felt like a distant nightmare. Here, in the hospital's dim light, the aftermath was beginning to settle like ash after a fire.Jacob sat in the corner, elbows on his knees, hands tangled in his hair. His eyes were wild and rimmed with red, fixed on the door behind which Jessica had disappeared.Valeria stood near the window, arms crossed, her face is hard as a stone.Robert paced a short distance away, phone pressed to his ear, whispering frantically to someone on the other end.The silence brok
∆NO POV∆"A husband standing up for his wife, since from when it is labelled as a sin?" Eric sneered, eyeing on Jacob, Robert and Valeria, especially glared at Jessica who caused all the mess in Ivory's life.Alexander adjusted his coat and glanced at Ivory with a smile, "If protecting my wife is a sin, then I don't mind being a sinner." In an instant, the entire scenario in the conference hall has changed.Jacob felt inwardly, "So, Ivory never lied, she almost got molested and forced by this bastard, then why did Jessie said Ivory was lying about that out of jealousy back then?" "Mr. Alexander, you were not wrong to attack such an abusive person," one female reporter said firmly."Not at all.""You were right to stop him, we are proud that you took a stand not just for your wife but for all women." A wave of support filled through the hall. But one question came cutting through the noise, sharp as a knife."What about your family?" A reporter hired by Valeria asked, stepping forwa
∆NO POV∆"Is he really here?" "Mr. Eric Lawrence by his side, what are they planning?" "Are they here to answer or apologise?" The grand conference hall buzzed with anticipation, every seat filled, every camera focused from the main stage to Alexander and Ivory. The air was thick with curiosity, as all the reporters and industry giants whispered among themselves, hungry for a story that would make headlines across the country.Just then, the trio made an appearance in the conference hall.Alexander stepped into the hall, radiating command in his black tailored suit, beside him walked Ivory, dressed in a pristine cream-colored outfit that mirrored her name. Her eyes, though soft, held a slight nervousness, and at her other side, calm and confident as always, was Eric, his demeanor as casual as his untucked shirt and smug grin. The moment they stepped inside, the energy shifted into new level. The crowd rushed forward, reporters scrambling to reach them, microphones and flashes risi
∆NO POV∆"I'll take care of it," Alexander said and hung up the call, he had a long conversation with Eric about the press meet Jacob is planning along with that investor. It was nearly midnight, he totally forgot the time while talking in the call, once he was done with the call, he decided to speak with Ivory, knowing she needs him by her side now. While Ivory sat curled on the couch, the TV off, but the screen still casting a pale glow across the room. She clutched a pillow to her chest, eyes distant just like how she was lost in her own thoughts.Alexander stepped in, carrying two cups of lavender tea."Still awake?" He asked gently. She nodded with a smile. "I can’t sleep, with everything going on I can't even imagine taking a nap without worrying, tomorrow they’ll say useless things about you… and about me, that Jacob is looking for an opportunity to ruin you, they wants Kingston group of companies to be theirs, and now we ourselves gave them a chance to turn things against yo
∆NO POV∆"Nothing," Alexander said calmly with a smile, Ivory blinked, being confused by his answer. "What do you mean by nothing?"Just then, the door got opened, and Eric walked in, carrying a leather folder in one arm and a confident grin is on his face."Is he your plan?" Ivory asked, glancing between the two men who just smiled at each other.Eric leaned over and casually wrapped an arm around Ivory's shoulder. "Yes, my dear princess, and I brought you one of the best gifts, a very important one." He held up a slim black pendrive between his fingers."You found it? That quickly?" Alexander asked, his tone instantly sharper, and curious.Eric nodded, tossing the pendrive into Alexander's hand. "What did you even think of me? I'm the best, and every rotten truth about that scumbag is here, he is much worse than we thought." Ivory looked between them, trying to keep up. "What is that?"Eric turned to her, with a serious face. "The dark secrets of that investor bastard, the man your
∆NO POV∆"Ivory, did you look at the news? What's happening?" Pearl's message out of nowhere in the morning made Ivory to look into the news early in the morning."Heir to Kingston Empire Attacks Respected Investor" "Violence at High-Class Restaurant""Who Is the Woman Behind the Blow?"Headlines screamed with speculation, as a video surrounding everywhere, which was clearly shot on someone’s phone, captured the moment Alexander's fist collided with the investor’s jaw. It looped over and over on social media platforms, it didn't take long before phone calls started pouring in.Ivory looked stunned looking at the news and the number of phone calls he is getting because of that particular incident.Alexander was in his study with a clenched jaw, as the screen of his phone lit up with Jacob’s name. He ignored it once. Twice. But the third time, he picked up with an irritated face."You’re out of your damn mind, aren’t you?" Jacob sneered through the speaker, "When you teach us how t
∆IVORY POV∆"You can stop flirting," I blushed slightly, but he just smiled at me, I'm not sure what got into me when I kissed him, but I really wanted to do it very badly.I thought he would be teasing me about that kiss forever, but thankfully he didn't even mention about that, for some reason I felt protected and relieved.Maybe from now onwards whenever I see that man, I won't be scared like before, because there's someone who trusts me and stands by my side. The car ride home was silent. Not cold or awkward… just quiet still our eyes and hearts spoke more than any words can do.My fingers remained laced tightly on my lap, and I could still feel the warmth of Alexander’s hand over mine earlier, right before he stormed back into the restaurant and threw that punch that echoed louder than any scream I could’ve let out.He hadn’t said a word after our conversation, but I can see him being protective for me.His jaw was still tight, his eyes on the road, knuckles bruised and scraped.
∆ALEXANDER POV∆"Do you think you deserve to live?" My knuckles collided with his jaw before I even heard myself curse. The crack was satisfying. Not just because of the force, but because it silenced him. The smirk wiped clean off his arrogant face, replaced by blood and the stunned realization that someone wasn’t afraid of him.My blood boiled just after knowing this man dared to hurt my Ivory, how can I even allow him to live after what he has done to her?Gasps echoed through the restaurant, champagne glasses froze mid-air, whispers rippled around like wildfire, but I didn’t care.I don't care, because he dared to touch her and he deserves to die.All I saw was him, the bastard who dared to lay a hand on my woman, the fear in Ivory's eyes after seeing him, the woman on whose face I wanted nothing but a smile, but she cried, and looked scared, it's all because of that damn man.He stumbled back, crashing into a table behind him. I stepped forward, my fists still clenched, vision
∆IVORY POV∆"Please fall in love with me..." Did he really say that? Did I really hear him say that? What does he meant by asking me to fall in love with him? Aren't we in a contract marriage, how can love involve in this?I was surprised and taken back, not sure how to react. But holding my hand, he called me for a dance to soft music, he didn't insist on hearing an answer, just giving me time and making me feel comfortable around him. With a twirl, we ended our dance, Alexander caressed my face, "I don't want to hear the response today, but I'll be hearing it soon, you'll give your answer soon, right?" Just as I was about to respond, my eyes noticed someone I shouldn't, I didn’t expect to see him here. The second my eyes landed on him across the crowd and staff around the restaurant, my fingers clenched the fabric of my dress, knuckles turning pale under pressure I couldn’t control. The air around me turned thick, and I felt as if someone had pressed a hand against my throat stra
