CHAPTER 6

After lunch, the makeup artists arrived to pick up Lenie. She was also surprised by how beautiful the dress was that she was going to wear. She couldn’t help but feel shy in front of her colleagues.

She could clearly hear her coworkers whispering. Even if she covered her ears, Lenie could still hear them talking.

"Where do you think Sir is taking her? I heard that the boss cleared his schedule just to have her fixed up," Celeste said.

"I don’t know, she’s really living like a princess. I don’t even know why she still works here," whispered another one.

Since Zyra overheard the conversation, she decided to speak up. She didn’t care if anyone else heard her. What was important was defending her friend Lenie.

"Hey, you jealous ones! If I were you, I’d go back to your cubicles. You’ll never be like Lenie because of your attitudes. Go on, get back!" Zyra said, annoyed, to the two.

Annoyed, the two made faces before going back to their cubicles. After that, Zyra went back to Lenie to check if she was okay.

"So? Are you fine? Did you get everything you need?" Zyra asked.

"Ah, yes. But I feel shy leaving with these makeup artists. Our coworkers are all seeing me," Lenie whispered in response.

"Don’t mind them. Just earlier, I talked to Celeste and Vivian. They were talking about you leaving the office," Zyra reported, and Lenie was surprised by what she heard.

"Huh? You really shouldn’t have entertained them. They might report you to Lance, and you could lose your job. I don’t want that," Lenie said with concern.

"Don’t worry about me. Sir Lance is my friend. He knows my behavior. Maybe they’ll even get fired for what they’re doing to you," Zyra reassured her friend, making sure everything was fine.

"Anyway, just keep quiet if you hear anything about me. If anyone should be mad at them, it’s me. I’ll talk to those two when I get back, okay?" Lenie responded, smiling at Zyra.

Lenie didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to Alexis because the makeup artists were rushing her. She didn’t feel like speaking to him either, especially since she was still upset about him clearing her schedule.

They went to Alexis's condominium. They were immediately greeted by Alexis's housekeeper. Since it was Lenie’s first time visiting Alexis’s condo, she was in awe. It was obvious how rich Alexis was, and Lenie felt small about herself.

"Ma’am, this way. Please come in," said Edith to Lenie.

"You don’t need to call me Ma’am. Just call me Lenie, that’s fine," Lenie responded, feeling shy toward the older woman.

"Ah, I can’t do that. Sir Alexis told me that you’re going to be his wife, so I have to show you the proper respect," the housekeeper replied.

Lenie was surprised by what Edith said. She hadn’t even answered Alexis yet, and he was already introducing her like that. At that moment, Lenie wanted to call Alexis to confront him, but since he was busy, she couldn’t do that.

After an hour, Lenie was done with her makeup. She couldn’t deny that the makeup artists Alexis hired did a great job. When Edith saw her, the housekeeper was very pleased.

"Wow, you look beautiful, Ma’am. The makeup suits you perfectly. I’m sure Ma’am Beverly will be happy when she meets you, especially when Sir Alexis introduces you to her," said Edith, which confused Lenie.

"Who’s Ma’am Beverly?" Lenie asked, immediately feeling nervous.

"Didn’t Sir tell you why he wanted you to come here to get fixed up?" Edith asked, her surprise showing on her face as she realized Lenie didn’t know what was really going on.

"No, Edith. He only told me he wanted to take me out on a date. I’m also confused because we’ve been dating before, but it never went to the point where I needed to get made up," Lenie explained.

"Ah, Ma’am Beverly is Sir Alexis's mother. I believe he plans to introduce you to her later," Edith replied hesitantly.

Lenie was taken aback when she realized that the reason she was getting fixed up was because Alexis was going to introduce her to his parents. Since her makeup was finished, she immediately took out her phone to call Alexis.

"Alexis! You really drive me crazy! Why didn’t you tell me that we were meeting your parents? Maybe you just want me to embarrass myself in front of them, huh?!" Lenie angrily said.

"Lenie, what are you talking about? I’ve never been ashamed of you in front of anyone! And if I told you the truth, would you even come with me? Probably not, right?" Alexis replied, his voice showing his irritation.

"But you should have still told me! If Edith hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have known! I’m going to look like an idiot in front of your parents later!" Lenie yelled, not caring if Edith or the makeup artists heard her.

"Wait, I’ll come to the condo and we’ll talk there. Stay where you are, don’t leave!" Alexis said before hanging up the call.

Lenie almost threw her phone onto the sofa in frustration. She returned to the makeup chair and tried to calm herself down. She felt a mixture of anger and nervousness at that moment.
