A responsibility

“Shouldn't you turn yourself in, sister?”

Charlotte’s nonchalant response makes Shayne’s smile fade. Shayne has been planning to confess her crime to the police but she feels no regret about killing the girl.

“I will when the right time comes,” she answers while driving.

Shayne plans to take her grandparents back to the house she recently bought. The old house had to be sold because of Charlotte’s father’s conspiracy. They’ve been on the run for years to stay safe.

Knowing who the culprit is, Shayne intends to handle her business before turning herself in to the police.

As the car stops in front of the villa, Charlotte unfastens her seatbelt and attempts to get out. She is startled when she feels herself being pulled down. She closes her eyes in shock and lands in a warm embrace.

“Where have you been? I’ve been searching for you all afternoon!” Edward’s heart pounds loudly, making Charlotte freeze. He’s visibly nervous, something she didn’t expect.
