It was an autumn morning and the streets of Belgravia were nearly full with tourists from across the world.
Lily Sterling , an 18-year-old, residing in Belgravia, a western central district of London was getting ready for her wedding. She had an elder sister named Rose with whom she was not particularly close.Rose and Lily were the daughters of Ronald Sterling and Rebecca Sterling.Ronald Sterling was the 32nd richest bussinesman in London. Th Sterlings were going through a downfall in their company as The Williams offered to help through partnership. The Sterlings were looking for a man for their elder daughter after getting to know that she had an affair with her classmate from college. The Williams wanted their son to get married as well, as he was now settled and declared as the CEO of their company. Both of the families needed each other and hence agreed upon marrying their children.Rose was to be married to the CEO of the largest company known to London and also a billionaire, Zared Williams, until she ran away.Zared Williams was the only heir of James Williams and Clarissa Williams. Rose didn't want to get married but was being forced to, by her parents. The Sterlings could not inform the Williams about their daughter's runaway on the day of the wedding, it would bring disgrace to their name and reputation and leave them insulted. The only way for the Sterlings to maintain their position was to marry Lily to Zared. Since Lily had no faith in her parents, she was not shocked by their choice. She knew they would go to any extinct for the sake of power. Lily has been physically as well as mentally abused by her parents since she was a child for getting the 2nd rank in school and never the 1st.The Sterlings thought of it as a disgrace to stand second to anyone.Lily was sitting in the dressing room getting ready for her wedding. She sat looking at herself, realizing nothing would be the same again. She didn't know how to feel, if she should feel happy or be sad. Happy that she won't live with her abusive parents anymore or sad that she was forced on someone who didn't want her. The makeup artist was almost finished with Lily’s makeup when her Mother entered the room.“Lily,it's time to walk down the aisle” said Rebecca.Lily took a deep breath and her father entered the room, she looked at her father willing to spot some empathy in his eyes but unfortunately found none. All of them left the room together and were now standing in front of the gates of the church in which the wedding was held. Everything was grand, the decor, the system. It was a beautiful sight for the eye 'but all this for what ?' Lily thought to herself. She walked up to her father and put her arms through his while he opened one to entwine them. When the gates opened, Lily and her father proceeded to walk down the aisle while she kept her eyes fixed on the ground.Meanwhile Zared who was also not happy with this wedding could not take his gaze away from Lily, her almond-shaped hazel eyes, her red flushed cheeks, her dark brown, wavy hair falling down to her waist, her pale skin glowing in the light. He found her exceptionally beautiful, but another thought entered Zared's mind as he saw her beauty...'Every woman craves money and nothing else' with that thought the admiration in his eyes for Lily changed to disgust. Reaching the front of the church Ronald placed Lily's hand into Zared's.Lily lifted her eyes to see a man with ocean blue eyes and dark hair with one part slicked back and other falling on his forehead. He seemed to be around the age of 25 , she was extremely mesmerized by the beauty of Zared until the Priest began with the vows."Do you, Zared Williams take Lily Sterling as your lawfully wedded wife ?" asked the priest."I do" his deep voice echoed, his eyes looking straight into Lily's with no emotions to be seen."Do you, Lily Sterling take Zared Williams as your lawfuly wedded husband ?""I-I do" Lily hesitated, feeling the heat from Zared's stare.Lily’s heart rate was not normal right now and she was imagining her future life and was nervous about how she will handle so much at such a young age without having any experience for even going out to a bakery to buy mere cupcakes. She felt her body stiffened as the Priest declared both of them as lawfully wedded now. Her breath was stuck in her throat."You may now kiss the bride." the priest said.Zared stepped forward placing his hands on Lily's waist, he leaned forward and placed his lips on hers and pulled out just after a second. Lily found this strange but did not pay much attention to it. The wedding ceremony came to an end after a long day of chit chatting with friends and relatives and meeting with relatives and business tycoons of each other's families.Zared and Lily departed for Knightsbridge located in the central part of London where Zared resided.Because Lily and Zared were both exhausted and did not know each other well enough to engage in conversation, the ride was silent. They reached their house after a while and Zared, ignoring Lily, got out of the car and proceeded towards the house.Zared always saw the day of marriage as a day when he'll get married to the love of his life and would live happily ever after but he was forced by his parents to get married into the Sterling family. He didn't want to get married as he didn't know anything about the person he was getting married to and was pretty sure she was just a golddigger who agreed upon marrying him for his wealth.Lily quickly followed Zared before he disappeared from her sight. She went behind him and followed him upstairs to where his room was."Come with me" Zared said with a straight face and went along the hallway of the first floor. Lily followed him quietly until he stopped at the end of the hallway. "This will be your room. I don't like anyone invading my privacy so you'll stay here and I'll be in my room" He completed his sentence with a cold voice and a straight face and made his way to his room without turning back to even take a glance at Lily or wait for her to reply. It was as if he was talking to himself. “Wait” Lily said, making Zared sigh and turn around with his eyebrows raised in question.“I know we've both been forced into this, but let's just accept it? After all, there's nothing else we can do“ Zared scoffed a little, turned around and brought his steps forward towards Lily. “That's probably what you wanted all along. Listen to me, I'm never going to accept you neither t
Lily woke up to the sound of the ringing alarm, her hands stretched and found her phone to dismiss it. She lied on the bed, staring at nothing, contemplating that today would just be another day of trying to gain Zared's attention and trust. It was Lily’s ultimate goal since she got married to Zared nearly 6 months ago. You can also say it was her daily routine now. She had been misunderstood and mistreated for far too long and she deserved to be trusted and loved, is what she thought. She was madly in love with Zared, and every time her gaze met his ocean blue eyes, she would fall in love with him all over again, but she could not do anything to prove that it was genuine. Tearing the blanket off her body, she got up and made her way towards the shower.Over the course of the six months, Zared never gave Lily a single tender glance, instead, he would yell at her and beg her to leave him alone. It seemed to him that Lily was only seeking his attention in order to get his credit cards s
Lily was determined not to give up because she was concerned that if he went to bed empty-stomach, he might become ill. She also noticed that he's getting skinnier which made her more worried and she unknowingly blamed herself for it. She went towards him and held his arm before he reached the stairs trying to stop him. "Zared, you-""WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LET ME LIVE?!, EVERY TIME I WAKE UP, I NEED TO SEE YOUR DISGUSTING FACE, EVERY TIME I COME FROM MY OFFICE EXPECTING TO TAKE SOME REST, YOU START IRRITATING ME. JUST STOP IT.YOU. ARE. NOT.MY.WIFE. STOP ACTING LIKE MY F*CKING WIFE"He shouted and yanked her hand. She was frightened by his action ,tears started forming in her eyes as she processed what he just said. It was never unknown to Lily but it was just hard for her to hear it from him in this clear words, to accept it, to accept that this was the reality. "I'm-I'm sorry" Lily said with a trembling voice, trying not to break down. "Your sorry won't do a damn thing, I would appr
Zared went downstairs and settled on the couch in the living room continuing his work. He saw Lily throwing the pieces of the mug in the dustbin while sobbing and trembling....'Urgh why does she have to be so annoying all the time, Man I can't stand this lady' Zared thought to himself. Lily spent the night sobbing in her room, her eyes were swollen from all the crying and her head in extreme pain but her tears won't stop. The thoughts in her mind, the questions, the overthinking was slowly killing her and she was not able to help it. She wanted to escape this world, escape to somewhere, where only happiness existed. She didn't like the people here, the people this world consisted of were cruel, selfish, heartless, ungrateful and what not, they only saw kind people like a use and throw product, they would take advantage of them and then throw them to the dogs. She hated this world, the people, the worries they gave her, the anguish they put her in... She was tired of this world. She clos
Lily was holding her hand which was CONTINUOUSLY bleeding while she was also pressing her scalps because of the pain in them. She got up slowly and weakly and walked in search of the first aid kit. She wrapped a band-aid on her injured hand when she found it. Even though it was hard to do it with one hand. She then did the chores while sobbing and thinking how can a person be so heartless. She couldn't comprehend what just happened, she was scared that this might happen but still had a little hope regarding Zared. She thought he wasn't a monster like her parents, that maybe he won't hurt her just like her parents did. Lily always thought her parents were cruel, cruel for torturing her for something she had no control over. She grew up hating her parents for what they did to her. She thought of them as heartless beings because who did that to their own child ? But now she wonders if they were to blame, or if it was her all along. What if she was the one who deserved it? Why would eve
Zared looked up at the people walking by, ignoring his presence. He was outraged by their behavior, he was sitting in the middle of a London street begging, despite being the CEO of the biggest company at the time. Who would find that acceptable? But once more, this was his decision. Zared was thinking about where he was and what he was doing until he noticed a girl, a girl with blonde hair, emerald eyes, pale reddish skin. She was dressed in a white top with straight biege pants and sunglasses resting on top of her head. Zared was enthralled by her beauty but did not expect her to help him. He assumed she was rich and would never look at Zared, the beggar. He still rolled his bowl of coins in front of her to catch her attention. She looked down at him and then his bowl."I won't give you money" She said raising her eyebrows. "Please ma'am, I'm really hungry, I haven't eaten in days" He said hoping she'll help."I can buy you food, but I won't give you any money, is that alright? "
She snapped out of her thoughts as he moved away after placing one of the plate in the sink. Lily sighed in despair and thought that maybe it's time to let go off the hope she had, the hope that maybe he was accepting her as his wife, Until.....until she felt two heavy arms sliding on either sides of her waist. She felt his nose snuggling in her neck while his hands rested on her waist. His warm breath stirred something inside Lily and she left an inaudible heavy breath from her mouth."Za-Zared" She said struggling to maintain her breath. "Mmm" He hummed in response busy in taking in the scent from her neck. Lily didn't know what to say further, she didn't plan to say anything after that because she didn't expect him to give a response but now that he did... She didn't know what to do. Zared gripped Lily's arm and turned her around.'Too close, again too close, way too close.' thought Lily. His eyes travelling from her eyes to her lips continuously. Only some centimeters left bet
Zared stopped at the door of Lily's room. He contemplated whether to go in or not. His hand extended towards the handle of the door but stopped midway, he pulled his hands back to himself, took a deep breath and opened the door in one go. The lights of the room were out, he switched on the lights but when he glanced at the bed, Lily wasn't there, the bed was made like in the morning so she certainly wasn't in the room. He still wanted to check, he took his steps towards the washroom, knocked at it and then opened the door after a while. He peeked inside but no one was to be found. He got out of the room taking long strides, going downstairs, he searched the kitchen, the storeroom, another guestroom which was a bit behind the staircase but he didn't find her. His eyes darkened, his jaw tightened and his nails dug into his palms as he closed his fists tightly. He was furious, He rushed to the main door with the lights still off and went to the backyard, the garden, even the parking to
The penthouse felt cavernous in her absence. Lily’s steps echoed faintly against the polished floors as she carried a small bag down the hall. She had packed only the essentials-clothes, documents, and her favorite book-a conscious decision not to look back. The thought of leaving the home they'd shared stung, but staying felt like drowning. Her mind replayed the scene in Aaron’s study, the damning photographs and the file with her name etched at the top. Every piece of information about her, laid bare-her family, her childhood, her fears. She’d trusted him, and in return, he had dissected her life like a puzzle to control. As she neared the door, the faint scent of his cologne lingered, and her grip on the bag tightened. This was the only goodbye she could give. Aaron had been out since the incident-a small mercy-but as Lily turned the handle, she heard the elevator hum to life. Her heart plummeted. The doors slid open, and Aaron stepped out, his suit slightly dishevel
The day was quiet, too quiet for Lily’s liking. Aaron had been called away for an urgent business meeting, leaving her alone in the penthouse. Normally, she’d enjoy the solitude, but today felt different. Her gaze wandered to the key sitting on her side table, the one Aaron had handed her a few days ago to the study. She hadn’t ventured inside yet, mostly because it felt too personal, too private. But now, with the emptiness of the penthouse pressing in on her, curiosity got the better of her. Sliding the key into the lock, she pushed the door open, stepping inside her fingers brushed against the dark wood of the desk. The view of the city skyline stretched beyond the glass, but her attention was drawn to a folder sitting in the center of the desk. It wasn’t marked, but something about it seemed out of place. “Just a peek,” she murmured to herself, feeling a twinge of guilt. Sliding the folder closer, she flipped it open-and froze. The first thing she saw was a phot
The last few days passed with Lily immersed in his studies and Aaron struggling to manage studies with the company work. Both of them got little time to spend together over the last two weeks-especially in Clara's absence. Aaron insisted they tell Clara about their relationship but Lily protested-too embrassed to admit she was right all the time. It was late in the afternoon when Lily was curled up on the couch with a book again, her feet tucked under her, while Aaron sat nearby with his laptop open. Clara was gone since morning and said she'd return late today. The quiet intimacy of the moment was broken only by the occasional click of the keyboard or the rustle of pages as Lily flipped through her novel. She glanced up, catching Aaron staring at her. “What?” “You,” he said simply, his voice low and teasing. Lily raised an eyebrow, though her lips twitched in amusement. “Me?” Aaron nodded, pushing off the wall and walking toward her. “I’ve been trying to work all day,
“Then I’d wait,” he said simply, his tone unwavering. “However long it took.”Lily felt her chest tighten at the sincerity in his words. “You don’t have to wait anymore. I’m ready.”His eyes searched hers, as if he couldn’t quite believe her words. “You mean that?”She nodded. “I mean it.”There was a pause before Lily resumed."So...are we....exclusive now?” her tone light but her gaze searching.Aaron’s grin widened, his confidence returning. “Lily, I’ve been exclusive to you since the day we met. You’ve been the only one for me.”Her cheeks flushed, and she ducked her head, suddenly feeling shy under the intensity of his gaze.“Since then?" She asked when she realised what he had said.Aaron tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his eyes. "Since then. And you? Am I the only one for you?”Lily smiled, her hand brushing lightly against his chest. “Yes. It’s only you.”His shoulders visibly relaxed, and he let out a breath he didn’t seem to realize he’d been holding. “Good. Because
Lily looked up at him with widened eyes, unsure of what to say. “You don’t have to use it,” he added quickly. “I just thought...if you ever needed anything, it might help.” Clara raised an eyebrow, but said nothing, though she had a massive smirk on her face.“Thank you?" Lily said, unsure.Aaron held her gaze for a beat longer before nodding and leaving the room. As the door closed behind him, Clara leaned in, “You know what that is, right?” “What?” Lily asked. “That’s trust,” Clara said with a grin. In the quiet moments that followed, Lily stared at the key in her hand, her mind racing. Trust, she thought. It was a small gesture, but it carried more weight than Aaron probably realized. The day had stretched into a quiet evening, Lily stood by the large windows of the penthouse, watching the sunset. Her thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions, all centering on Aaron. He had been quieter than usual after their last conversation. She could sense the weight of his emotions every ti
Lily was curled up on the couch at the penthouse, with the same book in her lap. Her mind wandered restlessly, replaying Aaron’s intense behavior at the café and the protectiveness in his eyes. Clara had wisely given her space after their conversation, though Lily suspected she was lurking somewhere nearby, ready to jump in with more pointed observations. Lily sighed, snapping the book shut and leaning back against the cushions. Damian’s voice broke the silence. “Ms. Lily, Mr. Knight wants you, he's at the balcony.” Lily looked up. “Did he say why?” “He didn’t,” Damian replied, his tone as formal as ever. “But he did insist it was important.” Lily hesitated, her heart skipping a beat. “Alright,” she murmured, setting the book aside. Aaron was already on the balcony when she stepped outside, his tall frame silhouetted against the city skyline. The evening breeze ruffled his hair slightly, softening the usual sharpness of his appearance. He turned at the sound of her fo
The day wore on with an unsettling quietness. Lily had hoped for a moment of peace, but the intensity of her recent conversation with Aaron loomed over her like a storm cloud. She spent the morning aimlessly flipping through her to-do list, pretending to work but unable to focus on anything for more than a few minutes. She started to have doubts if she was making the right decision by completely trusting someone so soon after...she shook her head. By the time the clock struck noon, Clara barged into her room. “Okay, enough of this brooding,” Clara said, hands on her hips. “Get dressed. We’re going out.” “I’m fine, Clara. Really.” Lily opposed. “No, you’re not,” Clara countered. “You’re overthinking everything again, aren’t you?” When Lily didn’t respond, Clara sighed and grabbed her hand. “Come on. You need a change of scenery before you lose your mind. Besides, I need coffee, and you’re coming with me.” "Clara, I-" "It's been days since we've spent quality time tog
Aaron lingered near the door for a moment before stepping back inside, his gaze hesitant but resolute. Lily turned to face him, her brows furrowing slightly. “I thought you were leaving,” she said, her voice softer now. “I was.” He walked back toward her, his steps deliberate. “But I realized something.” Lily’s heart thudded against her ribs as he closed the distance between them slowly. She tried to appear composed, but his presence made it nearly impossible. Aaron stopped a few feet away, his expression a mix of determination and vulnerability. "I’ve spent so much of my life walking away-from people, from emotions, from anything that felt... complicated. But I don’t want to do that with you.” Lily blinked, stunned by the weight of his words. “Aaron...” “I’m not expecting you to feel the same way or even to understand,” he continued, his voice steady. “But I need you to know that you’re the first person who’s made me want to stay.” Her chest tightened as his c
He nodded, his gaze fixed on the view outside the window. “And then there was Zared.” Lily tensed at the mention of Zared’s name, her fingers curling into fists at her sides. She stayed quiet, letting Aaron continue. “He wasn’t even family,” Aaron said, his tone bitter. “Just the son of my father’s closest friend as you already know. But they treated him like he was their own flesh and blood. Better than that, actually. Zared was everything they wanted me to be: charming, obedient, perfect. And they didn’t bother hiding it.” Lily’s chest tightened at the pain in his voice. "They seem so different, I never imagined they could do all this." Aaron looked at Lily. "Everyone had their masks, Lily. You can never imagine how worse the sweetest people could get." Lily's eyes held pity as well as disappointment upon hearing the world's reality. "Every time I messed up, every time I didn’t meet their impossibly high standards, they’d bring up Zared. ‘Why can’t you be more l
