Chapter 11 Only one

And I went to sleep.

When I woke up, I was in a white room. There was a faint smell of disinfectant in the room. I knew I was at the hospital. There were a lot of machines in the room. I tried to get up from the bed.

I got up and sat on the bed. After a while, Mr. Reid came inside with a doctor. When they saw me awake, they were shocked. The doctor came forward.

"How are you feeling now?" he asked me.

"I feel much better now." I said honestly.

"Good,take your medicine and rest for two days. You'll be fine," the doctor said again.

I listened to the doctor without saying anything.

After that, the doctor left the room. I looked at Mr. Reid, and unexpectedly, he too was looking at me. I bent my head and said thanks to him.

"You better take care of yourself." he said, turning back, and then he left the room.

After he was gone, I sighed and looked up.

I looked for my mobile. Now that I was alone, it's better if I called Cami. I searched for my phone but never found it. Maybe I forgot it at the office.

After a while, Mr. Reid came back again. I thought he was gone. He actually came back with food in his hands. I was a little confused. He took me here, waited until I woke up, and now he brought me food. He.... He is taking care of me? But why?? Did he do this to every employee? I asked myself. And I knew the answer.

He put the porridge on the table and helped me sit on the bed. Then he gave me the food.

"Eat it while it's hot. Then take your medicine. "

I nodded. While I was eating, he sat there with me. When I finished, he took the food plate and was about to leave.

"Can I borrow your phone, sir?" I asked after some hesitation.

He didn't say anything but gave me his phone.

After he was gone out of my ward, I called Cami and told her everything. Then she said she would pick me up after work.

When Mr. Reid came back, I gave him his phone.

"Do you need anything else?" he asked.

"No. Thank you for your kindness, sir. And sorry to trouble you. I just called my friend. She'll pick me up in a while."

Since it was just a fever, I'd better stay and rest at home. There was no point in staying at this hospital. This hospital... It seemed like a very expensive one. It was not like someone I used to go back then, so the fee should be expensive too, right?

I looked at him and added, "As for the fee, please give me your bank ID, and I'll send it when I reach home because I don't have any money now."

He looked at me and asked coldly, "Do I look like I lack money?"

I was shocked to hear that. "No of course not," I quickly said, lowering my head.

"You don't need to come to work for two days. Get rest. And you better take care of yourself. Don't come to the office if you are not well." He said that and left the ward, never looking back.

He closed the door behind him. Now my sight was blocked. I lay on the bed, closing my eyes. And I waited for Cami to come.

After a few hours, Cami came to the hospital. Till then, I was a little better, maybe because of the medicine. She came and hugged me.

"You good?" she asked through the hug.

I nodded and said, "Let's go to your apartment." She then broke the hug and led me outside the hospital. When we reached the counter,my discharge procedure was already done. And my medical fees were also paid. There was nothing left. I'll return him to the office, I thought, and I came back to the apartment.

For the next two days, I rested at home. But living at home and not doing anything stunk. I was tired of taking a rest. I called my number from Cami's phone the moment we returned from the hospital. My phone was with Anyee. She said I was there when she went to the canteen. But when she returned, she only found my mobile phone. She was worried, but she didn't know whom to ask. I told her everything. And also, I'll come after two days. She promised to take care of my phone until then.

I was in good health when I went to the office. But at the office, everyone was so busy with their work. I asked Anyee what was going on. She said the Golden Company's annual day would be held after two weeks. So everyone was busy with that.

I was also given a lot of work. Since we needed to submit this year's financial information at the annual day our department was extra busy. Plus, every department needed to perform something that day.

At lunch, I went to see Mr. Reid. I thought I should give him the medical fees. I didn't want to owe him or anyone else. But I didn't find him at the office. Maybe he was too busy. After all, he was the manager.

I checked on him a few more times, but I didn't find him. I was also busy with my own work. It was better if I gave him the money after the company's annual day.

It was a pleasure to attend the party since I was an employee there. And now it was a party, and everyone would be wearing gowns,dresses.Anyee said there were some companies that Golden Company owned and that they'd give dresses to the employees of Golden Company for rent for one night. The one where we work was the main one, but still, Golden Company had a lot of branches inside and outside of the city. So there would be more than 1,000 people at the party.

The second week, Anyee took me to one of the places that rent clothes to us. She said if we were late, every dress would be gone, and it would be hard for us.

When we reached there,we were warmly welcomed. They said many of the dresses were booked. But there were only some left.

 When we went to see there. The clothes left were all dark. Dark blue, dark purple, black, brown, etc. The only one that was good-looking was red. It was a middle-length cute dress.
