Chapter 36 –  Off-Limits

(Lexi’s POV)

“As Lexa. Not Lexi.”

“What? No,” I shook my head vehemently as if she could see me. “Hear my plan,” I cut her when she was about to speak. “If you’re really worried about him not meeting anyone, then I will go there to your meeting place, bring his cell phone, and the two of you talk.”

“Lexi, please hear me out,” her voice begged as she continued, “We already talked about this at lunch. I told him we couldn’t meet, but he said he had something very important to tell me in person, and it seemed urgent that he wanted to see me even for a few minutes.”

“Lexa, Finn’s not going to die if you don’t show up tonight,” I said, hating myself that I continued to clear my table.

“Please, Lexi,” she pleaded. “I can’t go back now. Tony picked me up earlier, and we’re here only stopping for gasoline refill.”

I pressed my lips tighter, not answering her.
