Chapter 79

After receiving a death threat, I couldn't go back to normal life. In my paranoid state, I hadn’t slept at all last night. I even pushed a table in front of my door and kept all the lights off throughout the night.

Another sign of my paranoia was that I took a taxi to the office today, and now I was sitting in one of the video conference booths. I was chatting with an old client of Fairmount Corporation about the property taxes on one of the retirement homes he’d bought from us.

"Sorry to take up your time, Marianne. But you're the only one with enough patience for me," said Mr. Angus, who was old enough to be my grandfather.

"Don't worry about it. We’re here to help. I’ll send you Ariana's number; she can guide you better with the tax paperwork. Any other questions?"

"Not for now, but can I call you if I have more?"

"Send me a message, and we’ll sort it out—just like we always do at Fairmount Corporation. Take care," I said as I ended the call.
