I made my way up to the Fifteenth story of Adams Corp. I was nervous as this was the most important day of my life. It was my first day as the new assistant of Ivan Lewis Adams. New York's most eligible bachelor who also happened to be the CEO of this prestigious company. As the elevator started to move, I felt ill.
Don't get me wrong. I was extremely excited about the opportunity. I was somehow selected among the most competitive and attractive group of people with extremely high qualification. Anyone would kill to have this job. I am a fortunate woman. However, the main reason for my discomfort was that I'd be working closely with Ivan Adams.
The man, the myth, and the legend. Rumor has it he is an enigma, completely untouchable and extremely hard to work with. Why did I want to work with him, you ask? Well, you see, my dream is to be one of the next executive board members in this outstanding establishment. Since I don't have too many experiences in the world of business, I figured I start from the bottom and work my way up. Even if it means I'll have to survive the wrath of the dragon himself.
So here I am. After giving myself a 20-minute session of pep talk in the morning, I was ready.
"You must be Miss Young, the new assistant. My name is Cheryl Johnson. I am sir's former secretary. You'll be taking over my job," said the woman who greeted me.
"Pleased to meet you, Ms. Johnson. I look forward to learning everything from you," I offered her a polite smile.
"Very well, follow me to his office please so you can be properly introduced," she said.
Going right to business, huh.
I tried to keep my composure as we walked through the elegant and beautiful Lobby. Will I really be working here? I hope my outfit was sophisticated enough.
We went inside the CEO's lavish office, and my eyes were blessed by the likes of the infamous Ivan Adams. There he was, standing by the window in all of his glory. He was wearing an expensive suit that was tailored to perfection. His black hair was slicked back, and he had a pair of grey eyes that glowed with high intelligence. He was quite handsome with a sharp nose and jaw. He looked at me intently. His expression was stoic.
I suddenly felt a chill. The aura surrounding him was just so...cold.
Calm down, Ariel. He is just a man. Do it for your future. I scolded myself for being nervous.
"Good morning, Ivan. I want to introduce you to your new assistant, Miss Young," Cheryl said.
Ivan looked me up and down and furrowed his eyebrows. I wish I could read his mind.
"I see," he said in a deep and husky voice. "She is a bit young, isn't she? Are we positive that she'll be able to handle the volume of my workload?"
Excuse me....what does my age has to do with anything? Besides, I'm 24 years old, not a teenager. He doesn't look a day older than 30 anyways.
I cleared my throat. "I will assure you I'm very qualified for this job, and I will do my best to prove myself at this company."
"Is that right," he smirked. "Very well then, I have a task for you. You may leave now, Ms. Cheryl."
"Yes, Ivan," she said and left in a hurry.
"A task?" I asked.
"Yes, a simple task to prove yourself worthy. Now go into the waiting area in the lobby and report to me what you see," he said and sat down on his chair.
I wonder what exactly I'm looking for out there, but I had to follow his order. I went inside the waiting room and saw a woman sitting on the couch. She was absolutely stunning. She didn't acknowledge me as she was too busy taking selfies on her phone.
I didn't see anything or anyone else, so I went back to his office.
"Well?" he asked.
"There's a woman with long blonde hair sitting on the couch," I said.
"Good," he paused. "Your next task is to go and get rid of her. Her name is Katie Mckinzee."
"Excuse me, sir, wouldn't that be kind of rude to tell her to leave? She might be waiting a long time," I asked hesitantly.
"Are you questioning me, Miss, young?" he stared at me with those intense grey eyes. Fuck...I am already messing up.
"Nno...no sir, of course not!" I stammered.
"Good, since this is your first day, I'll let it slide. Now, do as I told you and get rid of Kate Mckinzee," he said.
"What...what should I tell her?" I asked.
"Be creative, and don't be afraid to be a cold bitch. That's the only way you'll survive in this company," he said with a grim expression on his face.
Wow, what an unpleasant man...I said it in my head. My future is not looking too good.
I stood next to the woman and cleared my throat. She finally looked up.
"Um...excuse me, Miss Mckinzee? I am afraid Sir is not available at the moment. So, I'll have to ask you to leave," I said and gave her my best smile.
Her beautiful face contorted into an ugly frown. "I am sorry what? What do you mean he is not available? I've been waiting for him for almost 15 minutes. Tell Ivan to get his sexy ass out here, RIGHT NOW!"
Shit, this is going to be harder than I thought.
I cleared my throat and looked directly into her eyes. "I am sorry, Miss Mckinzee, I am afraid I can't do that. Sir is very busy, and he will be pre-occupied for the whole day today, so maybe you should re-schedule your meeting? I am sure he will be happy to meet you another time. By the way, I absolutely adore your hair! You are so pretty," I said. I wanted to stroke her ego so she would go soft on me. Judging by her change of demeanor, it was a success.
"Fine, I will call him later," she got up and stormed out.
Phew...mission accomplished. I headed back to the office.
"Well?" he asked.
"She left. She said she would call you later," I said and grinned.
"Nice job. I suppose you passed this test. Now go get me some coffee, no cream or sugar," he said and dismissed me.
I exhaled and left the office. Being around him was a task itself. He was just so...cold. I don't know how I would survive the rest of my career working with this man.
Two Years Later...That's right. I survived two years working with this neurotic man. It only took 25 therapy sessions and 72 hours of commitment to a mental hospital.Kidding....it wasn't that bad. But it isn't that great either. The more I got to know him, the easier it got, at least. However, I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy. How should I put it? He was a literal Devil.
I ran home. Okay, not literally. I hopped inside a cab and told him to drive faster. I can't believe I totally embarrassed myself in front of my boss."I'm back!" I yelled after arriving at the apartment. No answer. Mark must've left already. I felt bad for him. Poor guy must be tired of my bullshit. I decided just to sit down and watch TV. I turn on the entertainment news channel, and there he was, Mr. Boss man, right there inside the TV screen looking dashing as always. Seriously? It's like I can't escape him. He is on TV too. But why was he on TV?
"I'm glad boss broke up with Katie Mckinzee, now we can finally be together," Mandy said after I told her about the roses."Very funny, you barely say two words to the man," I rolled my eyes. "Why send roses though? Isn't it kind of cruel?""I don't know. It's kind of....poetic," Mandy said.Poetic...somehow, I'm having a hard time picturing him as a poet. I wondered what kind of man he really is.
I quietly worked on some paperwork for the meeting that would take place later in the day. Ivan's mother was supposed to visit the office today, which put him on edge. They don't exactly have a close mother and son relationship. I don't understand why because she was a delightful person. She always treated me like I'm her daughter. Not to mention she was incredibly beautiful. Beauty must run in that family.I went to his office when his mother arrived to let him know. I tried to leave after announcing her arrival, but he stopped me midway."No, stay here with me," he said, almost desperately.
I prepared myself for the trip to Paris. I didn't understand why he insisted that I go with him. It was a conference, and he definitely didn't need me there, so what was the point?Oh well, I should stop overthinking and just go with it. I've always wanted to go to Paris anyway. I mean, hello! It was Paris!Mark was not happy about me going away for an entire week, just as I suspected. But I promised I'd call him every day and we will video chat. It was just a week, right?I laid back on my plane seat. It would be a long flight, but it w
"I am sorry, Ivan, I must've misheard you. I thought I heard you say you were hitting on me," I said and smiled awkwardly."You heard correctly. I think you are gorgeous, so I want to offer you a chance to be my woman," he said with a straight face."I didn't realize you had such a great sense of humor, but haha, you got me," I said."I am not joking. I never joke about things like these. I have been very pleased with you these past couple of
The next day, he acted as nothing happened. He was back to his stoic and no bullshit attitude. I was more than okay to avoid that type of conversation, so I sure as hell didn't bring it up. I decided to stop thinking about it and focus on work. These documents aren't going to prepare themselves.I had some time after the presentation, so I decided to go shopping. I am in Paris, after all. The concierge recommended a boutique that was apparently super trendy and affordable, so I decided to give it a try.It really was a beautiful store. Dozens of beautiful dresses and outfits were displayed, and I was having a hard time picking. I decided to go wi
The next couple of days were spent following him around and then going sightseeing. I helped him with the conference during the day, and in the evening, I was free to do whatever I wanted. I was having a great time shopping.I confronted Ivan about the roses, but he just kind of shrugged."I told you I was going to keep trying. I meant every word I said," he said. This man is infuriating.
"Ouch! Take it easy Mr. sexy nurse," I yelped as Ivan dressed my wound. "Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital?" he asked and looked at me with concern. "I am pretty sure. This is just a scratch. I've gotten worse wounds from my sister Terry when we fought in our youth," I commented. Ivan and I were sitting in the living room after the whole ordeal was over which occurred half an hour ago.
Ivan and I went to the police station the next morning to watch them interrogate Mickey and Linda. We asked the detective to dig dip and see if he can make Mickey confess about Katie Mckinzee's involvement. We stood in front of the window of the office which had a one-way mirror."Don't worry, they won't be able to see you guys since it's a one-way mirror," the detective explained."Yes we know, I've seen a lot of mystery movies," I said.
We followed Mickey's direction step by step. Ivan cashed out six million dollars and put them in a red duffel bag. We headed to the train station. He didn't want me to come along but nothing will stop me from getting to my babies."It's not safe for you there. He already hurt you once," Ivan told me."I don't care. I am coming with you. I need to see that my babies are okay so don't argue with me about this," I insisted."I know how stubborn you are, so I won't waste my time arguing," Ivan sighed.
I woke up in the hospital slightly disoriented. My head hurt like hell. It was as if, someone beat it with a hammer. What happened?I thought. I woke up this morning, it was a nice day out so I took the twins to the park, then...THE TWINS!I started to panic as I remembered the attack. They took them away from me. I touched my head. It was bandaged. They must have hit me really hard for me to go unconscious
Both Ivan and I stared at the twins in awe. They were gorgeous. They both had Ivan's cool grey eyes and my lips and nose. "Look at them, aren't they perfect?" I cooed."Only because of how good looking we are," he said casually.'We did a pretty good job, didn't we?" I laughed."There's just one problem," he said.
I took Ivan shopping during the office hour. He needed to buy some new clothes. I mean, not really needed. The man had everything, but he liked buying clothes out of habit."It...it’s...yellow," Ivan said as he stared at the bright yellow tie I was holding in front of him with a scowl on his face."I know! Like the Sun. Doesn't this remind you of happiness?" I chirped."No, it reminds of horse pee. There's no way I am wearing that," he declared.
"What is the meaning of this?" I asked and chucked my phone at Ivan. He caught it with ease and stared at the screen."This is nothing," he said. Does he think I am stupid? I will kick his ass if he keeps saying its nothing."I need a better explanation than it's nothing," I demanded."The picture was misconstrued," he said. "You know I don't have an intimate relationship with Ms. Ellis."Actually,
I stood beside Ivan at the gallery with an uneasy feeling in my chest. It was the opening day. People from all over the city gathered around to look at the works of Marina Ellis. I knew she would be here any second now to make her debut. I looked at Ivan to see if he showed any type of emotions on his face but his face was blank and stoic as always. How does he feel about seeing his ex after all these years?I jolted back to reality as he held my hand and squeezed it."You seem to be deep in thoughts, are you thinking about me naked?" he asked casually. How can he say stuff like that with a straight face?
I woke up in the morning and smelled bacon and eggs. My mouth started to water, and I was suddenly starving.Ivan entered the room with a tray of food. He wasn't wearing a shirt, so my eyes were graced with his beautiful muscles first thing in the morning. His unwillingness to wear shirts in bed was a blessing in disguise. Praise the Lord."Hungry?" he asked."More ways than one," I said. My lusty eyes were glued to his hard chest.
