The next day, as I approached Edgar’s manor, the air was thick with the heady scent of pine and damp earth. The Calyz pack’s territory was lush and dense, a far cry from the rugged landscapes I was expecting.

My heart thudded in my chest, a rhythmic reminder to stay calm. I had to remind myself that this was just another conversation, albeit with a snobby Alpha who thought far too highly of himself.

The guards at the entrance eyed me with suspicion, their eyes narrowing as I walked past them.

I gave them a nod, trying to appear nonchalant, even though my insides felt like they were tied in knots.

“Zaylen,” Edgar greeted me as I entered. He was lounging on a large, ornate chair that looked like it had been plucked straight from some medieval castle. His tone was laced with condescension, his eyes scanning me as if I were something he’d scraped off his boot. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
