My mind went blank as I stood at the doorstep, my hand hesitating over the doorbell. Then suddenly, I felt someone tap my shoulder.

“Olivia!” I heard my sister's voice call out my name. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even hear her walk up to the door. “Are you okay?” She narrowed her eyes on me.

I fidgeted with my dress, smoothing out wrinkles that weren’t even there. “Yeah, I’m okay.” I finally rang the doorbell. “I didn’t know you were coming.”

“I just wanted to stop by to see Mum,” Amanda responded.

My mother answered the door and we all went inside the house. “Hey, mum. How are you doing?” I asked after she closed the door behind her.

She didn’t respond, she just gestured for me to follow her to her room. Amanda and I exchanged suspicious glances before I trailed behind my mother who led me into her room.

My mother made sure the door was locked, then she cleared her throat and began. “Olivia, take a seat.” She pointed to the chair opposite her bed.
