Michael glanced over his phone for the millionth time, expecting Amelia to call anytime soon. He was still going over everything in his head, and the more he thought about it, the more strength drained from his body. He had no idea how to break the news to Amelia or Olivia. But it was necessary he does, he wouldn't be able to cheat on Olivia, he cared for her and genuinely loved her with all his heart.
After half an hour of waiting, the long awaited call finally came through, and Michael wasted no second in answering. "Where are you?" He demanded the moment he answered the phone, moving away from places where he could be overheard. "At the airport, you said you'd come pick me up, right? Or should I come straight to your office—" "I'm coming to pick you up!" Michael interjected sharply, not letting Amelia finish her words, or the idea of ever visiting him while he was at work. Amelia wasn't the quiet type of girl, she always loved being the center of attention, and Michael was certain she would end up getting Olivia's attention one way or another. Swiftly, Michael ended the call before rushing out of the building. He would have to call Olivia later to inform her that he decided to take the entire day off. He would have to lie to her and say he had fallen sick, otherwise he would have to come up with another convincing lie to tell. One of the valets appeared minutes later with his car, and in the next , Michael was speeding towards the airport, his heart racing, and his mind uneasy. He was still thinking the entire scenario through in his head—how he would break the news of his new girlfriend to Amelia, or even tell Olivia that the woman he had been engaged to was back in town. Twenty minutes later, Michael arrived at the airport, and it didn't take him long to spot Amelia standing at the airport parking lot. She raced towards him the moment they locked eyes, and without any ounce of restraint, launched herself into Michael's arms. As he had expected, she was still full of energy, and her energetic character was pulling the attention of strangers towards them. Amelia remained in Michael's arms for a while, unwilling to let go even when the man urged her to. It had been so long since they were this close to each other, and she wanted to enjoy every second of their time together. He had no idea how much she had missed him, she hadn't slept a night all those years without thinking about him. And now that they were together, she had no intention of ever leaving him again. "I've missed you so much, Mike, you have no idea how much I've missed you." Amelia confessed, her tears gently strolling down her cheeks as she held onto Michael tightly. Michael felt a pang of guilt as Amelia clung to him, her warm tears soaking his shirt. He had prepared himself for this moment, but seeing her so exuberant and affectionate made the task ahead even more daunting. He hadn't expected her to still be so clingy towards him, and now he felt bad about the news that laid ahead. "Amelia, it's great to see you," Michael returned, his voice strained with forced cheerfulness. "You look tired, let's get home so you can rest.." Amelia finally let go, a beaming smile plastered across her face. "I can't believe we're finally together again! I've missed you so much." "I've missed you as well." Michael returned, a practiced smile spread across his face as he walked over to open the door for her. Amelia settled in, while Michael took care of loading her bags into the trunk of the car. He joined her in the car moments later, his face still frozen with a smile. "Tell me everything, Michael! I've seen you on TV, you're a big shot now. I always knew you had it in you." Amelia commended, but Michael had other things bothering him. He wanted to just stop her and tell her everything, but it was a lot more difficult than he had imagined. "Amelia there's something I want to tell you.." he started slowly, his words calculated, and his tone calm. He didn't want to appear rude, and he didn't want to break the news to her in a manner that would force her into acting out in public. "What is it? What do you want to tell me?" Amelia inquired, oblivious in the change in Michael's demeanor. She was too excited to notice that he wasn't in the mood for her overly cheery act at the moment. Michael took in a deep breath, steeling his resolve to finally tell her the truth. "Do you really still want to get married to me? It's been years since we got engaged, do you really still love me?" Amelia blinked in surprise, her excitement dimming as Michael's serious tone finally registered. Her smile faltered, and she searched his face for answers, sensing that something was off. "Of course, I still want to marry you, Michael. Why would you ask me that?" Michael gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white as he braced himself for what he was about to say. "A lot has changed, Amelia... I've changed. I... I met someone, and things have become complicated." Amelia blinked twice and shook her head just to be sure she had heard correctly, and was currently not hallucinating. What was Michael talking about? Had he forgotten that they were engaged? She had been faithful to him throughout their time apart. She rejected every male that made attempts to get to her, even females too. Yet, here he was telling her that he had found someone else. "Who is it? Who did you find?" Amelia asked, sniffling back the tears that threatened to stream down her eyes. "That's not necessary for now, Amy—" "I understand, you don't love me anymore, do you?" She inquired with tears streaming down her eyes. She had tried to hold it in, but couldn't. How could Michael do this to her? And after all these years? "It's not like that, Amy. I still care about you, I still love you—" "If you still care about me, then you should honor the promise you made to me." Amelia interjected, flashing the ring on her middle finger in Michael's face. "I'm your fiance, Michael, and I won't give you up so easily! I'll make you love me again, and I'll die trying!"Micheal remained stunned for a good minute, unsure if he was actually staring at the sweet Amelia he used to know. He hadn't seen this part of her, and it had genuinely scared him. "I..I'll drive you home." He managed to squeeze out after a minute of awkward silence between them."No, that's no fun at all. Show me around town, let me get to know your new life." Amelia suggested, a clever scheme to find out the lady who Michael had tried to replace her with. If Michael succumbed to her request, then chances were that she would meet this lady that Michael had fallen in love with. Michael on the hand was quick to catch on to Amelia's plans, and immediately dismissed that idea. "You're exhausted, you should get some rest. We'll save the tour for another day—""I insist! It's my body, I know what's best for me." Amelia interjected sharply. Michael clenched the steering wheel, unsure how to deal with Amelia's stubbornness. He knew what she was up to, and she wasn't doing much to cover he
Olivia paused for a moment, her gaze shifting from Amelia to Michael. She arched a curious brow at him, still unsure if she had heard correctly, or if all this was some sort of prank. Nevertheless, she took Amelia's outstretched hand, a practiced smile playing on her lips as they shook hands. "It's nice to meet you, Amelia. I hope you enjoy your stay here." Olivia said before turning to Michael a second time. She expected something from him, a sign perhaps, or even a shift in his nervousness. However, Michael stood still, his gaze focused on the ground instead of her eyes. She didn't push further, she merely turned towards Amelia who had a snarky smile on her face. "Enjoy your tour." She concluded before walking away from the two of them. She had completely forgotten why she needed Michael in the first place, all she could feel right now was anger and betrayal, but she didn't act on those feelings. She wouldn't act on them until she had heard what Michael had to say. "She's g
Olivia found herself staring blankly at the computer screen, the way she had for nearly the past fifteen minutes. With a shake of her head, she drew herself out of her thoughts and tried to focus on getting some work done. But no matter how she tried, the events that had happened downstairs continued to play out in her mind repeatedly. That other woman, Amelia... The way she had acted with Michael spoke of a very long term relationship. She had introduced herself as his fiance, and the hesitation she had seen on Michael's face had been nearly enough to break her heart. Michael had been something she had never thought she would meet after what she had endured with Noah. Noah had done terrible things to Olivia's mental and physical state. All the times he had treated her like she was worthless, and she had been unable to realize all the signals. But once she had, it had almost been too late. She had lost her child but she had been fortunate to come out with her life. In the years aft
Olivia's eyelids drew back just seconds before the alarm clock beside her bed released a particularly aggravating ring that was guaranteed to wake the dead. Her pale blue eyes flickered around the room for a few moments before the ringing became too much to bear. Placing a firm hand on the device, she turned off the alarm and moved the soft blankets off her body. "Sometimes I wonder why I even still keep that thing around," the woman monologued, her gaze momentarily fixated on the annoying machine. Olivia had always been a light sleeper and an early riser, which meant she did not really need the clock. But she still left the small shoebox sized object sit on the bedside table everyday. Just in case. Olivia went down the stairs and straight to her laptop where she wasted no time in pulling up her emails. There was a notification there for a new one and she pulled it up quickly. It was a message from Damian expressing his personal thanks for the invitation to the city and an affirmat
Olivia inhaled sharply as she stepped through the heavy double glass doors of the restaurant. The cool air of the street felt soothing on her skin, although it did nothing to alleviate the sting of emotion that had coursed through her body just moments earlier. Even though Olivia had come here with her own mind full of suspicions, to actually hear them being confirmed was something else though. No, not confirmed. Damian himself had sounded uncertain when he had told her what he had. But still, it was too much of a coincidence that both of them just happened to have thought of the same possibility. And considering the situation and the man involved, that possibility was already most likely the truth. Olivia took hurried steps towards her car, doing her best not to let her emotions show on her face. In all honestly, she should have known better than to have thought that an irredeemable piece of trash like Noah could possibly have any positive intentions for her. That man was devious an
Olivia woke up with a splitting headache, balls of perspiration trickled down from her forehead as she gently tried to get her breath under control. It had been ten years already, yet she was still haunted by the same nightmare. She had been to therapy countless times, and had bills to help her calm herself, yet the nightmares persisted. It had been a while since she got one, but it wasn't a new experience. Why now? Could it be because of the call she had gotten a few days ago? She said it wouldn't let it bother her, but apparently she hadn't told herself the truth. It had been a prank call, some stupid hoodlum who thought that pretending to be her ex would be funny. Olivia was already used to these types of calls. Noah Grant was a well known figure, and their relationship hadn't been a private affair. It might have been ten years ago, but people still asked her about him in interviews and press conferences. While she would love to avoid speaking about her ex as much as she could, i
Olivia froze in place, not sure of what she should do next. She didn't know if she should scream, or simply turn around and disappear from the office completely. However, one thing she knew not to do was act like a wimp she used to. "Liv, it's been a while—" "What are you doing here?" Olivia interjected sharply, her tone blunt and devoid of any sense of formality. Her arrogance only made Noah smile. Reaching into the depths of his pocket, he pulled out a badge and flashed it right at Olivia's face, "Noah Grant, CEO of Rock Enterprise, it's nice to meet you, Olivia Jones." Now Olivia was even more speechless, if that was even possible. She had heard that Rock Enterprise had been bought, but never in her life did she imagine that it was Noah who had bought it. What was he doing this for? To spite her? Hadn't he done enough already? "I want you out of here this instant. Leave while you still have the chance to avoid embarrassment." Olivia held her ground, her voice steady despite t
The interview had ended a lot faster than expected, and it was probably due to the fact that it wasn't even an interview. Olivia hadn't said much when Noah yielded and sealed the deal. He was here to impress her—to win her over, and not to listen to her beg for a partnership. "A moment, Liv—""Don't call me that! You don't get to call me that anymore!" Olivia snapped, her fingers pointed at Noah in a threatening manner. Noah raised his hand in submission, not wanting to anger her anymore than this. "I'm sorry, could you spare me a minute, Miss Jones? It's important for our partnership going forward, and I'd like to discuss it with you alone." His eyes slowly trailed towards Michael who had appeared right behind Olivia with a protective stance. Olivia knew very well that whatever Noah wanted to discuss had nothing to do with the just concluded interview, nor did it have anything to do with the partnership of the two companies. He probably wanted to discuss something different, one
