Micheal remained stunned for a good minute, unsure if he was actually staring at the sweet Amelia he used to know. He hadn't seen this part of her, and it had genuinely scared him.
"I..I'll drive you home." He managed to squeeze out after a minute of awkward silence between them. "No, that's no fun at all. Show me around town, let me get to know your new life." Amelia suggested, a clever scheme to find out the lady who Michael had tried to replace her with. If Michael succumbed to her request, then chances were that she would meet this lady that Michael had fallen in love with. Michael on the hand was quick to catch on to Amelia's plans, and immediately dismissed that idea. "You're exhausted, you should get some rest. We'll save the tour for another day—" "I insist! It's my body, I know what's best for me." Amelia interjected sharply. Michael clenched the steering wheel, unsure how to deal with Amelia's stubbornness. He knew what she was up to, and she wasn't doing much to cover her intentions either. He had no desire to entertain Amelia's sudden demands, but he knew her well enough to recognize that she wouldn't back down easily. A light smile escaped his lips and he forced a smile, hoping to deter her away from the rising frustration within him. She had just arrived, and had wasted no time in making life difficult for him. "Alright, fine," he said, trying to sound casual. "But just for a little while." Amelia's lips curled into a victorious smile as she buckled down her seatbelt. She gave Michael a look that sent a chill down his spine, one that made him wonder just how much she had changed. The Amelia he had known had always been sweet, but now there was something sharper, almost predatory, in her gaze. She seemed completely different, and he was unsure if he wanted to deal with this new version of her. It took a while to drive from the airport to the company. They pulled into the parking lot of his workplace and he could see Amelia's eyes slowly widen in surprise. Jones and Stones was a growing empire, and was quite popular on the news these days, Michael wasn't surprised to see Amelia in shock. She probably didn't expect him to be an employee here, and he hadn't exactly bragged about it to anybody. "This is where you work now?" she asked, her tone deceptively light. "Yeah," Michael replied as he exited the car, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "It's a good place. I like it here." Amelia smirked. "Seems... wonderful." Michael knew that look—Amelia was judging, calculating, probably exploding inside with questions. She turned toward him, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Who's she?" The question hung in the air, sharp and unexpected. Michael stiffened. He had anticipated this, but it still caught him off guard. "What do you mean?" "The woman. The one who made you forget about me so easily." Amelia's voice was low, almost a whisper, but the intensity behind it was unmistakable. "Is she the CEO of this company? What was her name again, Olivia Jones?" Michael hesitated, his mind racing. Amelia was smart, and while he could tell it was just a random guess, he still didn't answer. "You wanted a tour, right? Let's get to it." Michael brushed the question off before leading the way inside. Amelia wasn't satisfied, but she didn't argue with Michael. She had seen his reaction to her question, and while she wasn't exactly sure if she had been correct about her guess, she was almost certain that his new 'lover' was also an employee here. With a practiced smile, she followed after him, her eyes constantly glancing around and admiring the new heights that Michael had reached. Now she was even more desperate, there was no way he was leaving her for another lady, she wouldn't allow it. Eyes turned towards the two of them the moment they entered the building. People greeted them, but the greetings were not louder than the whispers in the background as they walked by. Everyone in the company probably knew about Michael and Olivia, the chemistry they had was difficult to miss. So seeing him with another lady clung to his side was definitely surprising. They were curious, and it was clear on their faces, however nobody had the guts to walk up to Michael and ask him questions. Michael did his best to ignore all the side talks, but Amelia wasn't exactly as composed as Michael was. "They're whispering, is it because of us? What do you think they're talking about?" She inquired, a deceptive and light grin spread across her face. "I wouldn't know, Amelia. There's a lot of things they could be talking about, don't be so focused on yourself, it's not healthy." Michael replied without restraints. His sarcasm was clear, as well as the message in his words. Amelia was stunned for a moment, but she didn't argue back. She knew Michael had always been a direct and honest man, some men wouldn't even have said anything about their new lovers if they were in his shoes. Michael took his guest around the building while making sure he avoided Olivia's floor and office as much as he could. He didn't want them to have a run in, and he didn't want to have to explain anything to her or Amelia, especially not in such a public space. "That's it, we're done here, can we go home now?" Michael said as he led Amelia towards the last flight of stairs. Relief was written over his face, but that soon disappeared the moment a familiar voice called out to him. "Michael, I've been searching everywhere for you—" Olivia paused momentarily when she saw the lady by Michael's side. "You brought a friend, care to introduce us?" Amelia had recognized the lady the moment she laid eyes on her, and the sudden change in Michael's demeanor had confirmed her suspicion. Before Michael had the chance to say a word, Amelia stuck out her hand for a handshake, her lips already wording the sentences that Michael wanted to keep away from Olivia. "Hi, I'm Amelia, Michael's fiance, it's nice to meet you."Olivia paused for a moment, her gaze shifting from Amelia to Michael. She arched a curious brow at him, still unsure if she had heard correctly, or if all this was some sort of prank. Nevertheless, she took Amelia's outstretched hand, a practiced smile playing on her lips as they shook hands. "It's nice to meet you, Amelia. I hope you enjoy your stay here." Olivia said before turning to Michael a second time. She expected something from him, a sign perhaps, or even a shift in his nervousness. However, Michael stood still, his gaze focused on the ground instead of her eyes. She didn't push further, she merely turned towards Amelia who had a snarky smile on her face. "Enjoy your tour." She concluded before walking away from the two of them. She had completely forgotten why she needed Michael in the first place, all she could feel right now was anger and betrayal, but she didn't act on those feelings. She wouldn't act on them until she had heard what Michael had to say. "She's g
Olivia found herself staring blankly at the computer screen, the way she had for nearly the past fifteen minutes. With a shake of her head, she drew herself out of her thoughts and tried to focus on getting some work done. But no matter how she tried, the events that had happened downstairs continued to play out in her mind repeatedly. That other woman, Amelia... The way she had acted with Michael spoke of a very long term relationship. She had introduced herself as his fiance, and the hesitation she had seen on Michael's face had been nearly enough to break her heart. Michael had been something she had never thought she would meet after what she had endured with Noah. Noah had done terrible things to Olivia's mental and physical state. All the times he had treated her like she was worthless, and she had been unable to realize all the signals. But once she had, it had almost been too late. She had lost her child but she had been fortunate to come out with her life. In the years aft
Olivia's eyelids drew back just seconds before the alarm clock beside her bed released a particularly aggravating ring that was guaranteed to wake the dead. Her pale blue eyes flickered around the room for a few moments before the ringing became too much to bear. Placing a firm hand on the device, she turned off the alarm and moved the soft blankets off her body. "Sometimes I wonder why I even still keep that thing around," the woman monologued, her gaze momentarily fixated on the annoying machine. Olivia had always been a light sleeper and an early riser, which meant she did not really need the clock. But she still left the small shoebox sized object sit on the bedside table everyday. Just in case. Olivia went down the stairs and straight to her laptop where she wasted no time in pulling up her emails. There was a notification there for a new one and she pulled it up quickly. It was a message from Damian expressing his personal thanks for the invitation to the city and an affirmat
Olivia inhaled sharply as she stepped through the heavy double glass doors of the restaurant. The cool air of the street felt soothing on her skin, although it did nothing to alleviate the sting of emotion that had coursed through her body just moments earlier. Even though Olivia had come here with her own mind full of suspicions, to actually hear them being confirmed was something else though. No, not confirmed. Damian himself had sounded uncertain when he had told her what he had. But still, it was too much of a coincidence that both of them just happened to have thought of the same possibility. And considering the situation and the man involved, that possibility was already most likely the truth. Olivia took hurried steps towards her car, doing her best not to let her emotions show on her face. In all honestly, she should have known better than to have thought that an irredeemable piece of trash like Noah could possibly have any positive intentions for her. That man was devious an
Olivia woke up with a splitting headache, balls of perspiration trickled down from her forehead as she gently tried to get her breath under control. It had been ten years already, yet she was still haunted by the same nightmare. She had been to therapy countless times, and had bills to help her calm herself, yet the nightmares persisted. It had been a while since she got one, but it wasn't a new experience. Why now? Could it be because of the call she had gotten a few days ago? She said it wouldn't let it bother her, but apparently she hadn't told herself the truth. It had been a prank call, some stupid hoodlum who thought that pretending to be her ex would be funny. Olivia was already used to these types of calls. Noah Grant was a well known figure, and their relationship hadn't been a private affair. It might have been ten years ago, but people still asked her about him in interviews and press conferences. While she would love to avoid speaking about her ex as much as she could, i
Olivia froze in place, not sure of what she should do next. She didn't know if she should scream, or simply turn around and disappear from the office completely. However, one thing she knew not to do was act like a wimp she used to. "Liv, it's been a while—" "What are you doing here?" Olivia interjected sharply, her tone blunt and devoid of any sense of formality. Her arrogance only made Noah smile. Reaching into the depths of his pocket, he pulled out a badge and flashed it right at Olivia's face, "Noah Grant, CEO of Rock Enterprise, it's nice to meet you, Olivia Jones." Now Olivia was even more speechless, if that was even possible. She had heard that Rock Enterprise had been bought, but never in her life did she imagine that it was Noah who had bought it. What was he doing this for? To spite her? Hadn't he done enough already? "I want you out of here this instant. Leave while you still have the chance to avoid embarrassment." Olivia held her ground, her voice steady despite t
The interview had ended a lot faster than expected, and it was probably due to the fact that it wasn't even an interview. Olivia hadn't said much when Noah yielded and sealed the deal. He was here to impress her—to win her over, and not to listen to her beg for a partnership. "A moment, Liv—""Don't call me that! You don't get to call me that anymore!" Olivia snapped, her fingers pointed at Noah in a threatening manner. Noah raised his hand in submission, not wanting to anger her anymore than this. "I'm sorry, could you spare me a minute, Miss Jones? It's important for our partnership going forward, and I'd like to discuss it with you alone." His eyes slowly trailed towards Michael who had appeared right behind Olivia with a protective stance. Olivia knew very well that whatever Noah wanted to discuss had nothing to do with the just concluded interview, nor did it have anything to do with the partnership of the two companies. He probably wanted to discuss something different, one
Olivia did her best to remain calm, getting worked up wouldn't do her any good, and she definitely didn't want Noah Grant to be the reason for her foul mood that morning. She had better things to worry about, and Noah Grant was the least of them. So why then was she so invested in him? What exactly was his game? What could he be up to? Olivia needed to know. She knew Noah better than anyone, and she knew for certain that he hadn't just come around to play and have fun. He was definitely up to something, and she couldn't help but feel that she was at the epicenter of whatever master scheme he was cooking. She swallowed hard, trying to steer her thoughts away from Noah and focus them on the pile of paper before her. She had a lot of work to do, and thinking about her ex husband was not going to get the work done. Olivia hadn't finished with one of the documents when the door swung open to reveal her best and only friend, Lisa Brown. "You didn't tell me Noah is in town, what's going
