Forewarned

The sun was hidden behind a gray cluster of threatening clouds. There was moisture in the air with the promise of rain. A cool breeze sent goosebumps down my back. The crunch of leaves and thin sticks under my feet would have been music to my ears if it weren’t so awkward. I wondered about our training and what we would be doing. Questions of how far we would go today had me feeling both excitement and nervousness.

As Clara and I walked, the silence only grew until it was louder than the wind. We hadn’t been alone since the night she helped me escape and we haven’t had a chance to speak since the battle. The longer I tried to think of what to say the more I couldn’t come up with the words and the more awkward it grew.
