At this point, explanations seemed unnecessary.

I nodded faintly.

"Believe whatever you want. Seeing me still alive must be quite disappointing for you all, isn't it?"

"But that's alright..."

I raised my eyes to meet Derek's emotionless gaze.

"Derek, let's sever our mate bond."

"I'm setting you free to pursue your true love."

I then turned to face Ethan.

"And you—as you wished, I'm no longer your mother."

Watching their shocked expressions, I silently laughed to myself.

How wonderful. Everyone can finally be free.

I turned to leave, but Derek grabbed my wrist.

His voice trembled slightly.

"Vivian, what are you saying? Just because I rescued Sarah first, you want to end our mate bond?"

"You're fine, aren't you? Even your pregnancy was a lie. I haven't even blamed you for that, yet you want to break our bond? Is this really necessary?"

I didn't bother explaining, silently trying to pull away from his grip.

But his fingers only tightened, squeezing until my wrist turned red.

Caleb, who had been quietly standing beside me, suddenly had tears in his eyes.

He angrily pried Derek's hand away, pushed me behind him, and shouted:

"Don't touch my mom! She just had surgery and she's still weak. You're hurting her!"

I almost wanted to laugh. Like a little wolf, he bared his canines threateningly at the people before us, stubbornly trying to protect me with his own strength.

Unfortunately, he was too small, so when Ethan charged forward, Caleb was easily pinned down.

Ethan raised his fist and brought it down on Caleb's body.

"You're lying! She's MY mom, not yours!"

Caleb was beaten without a chance to fight back. He covered his head, dodging left and right, but still refused to surrender.

"She's not yours anymore! Mom said you didn't want her. You left her on the battlefield. You wanted her to die!"

"She told me that I saved her, and from now on, she'll only be a mother to me!"

Ethan froze momentarily, his eyes rimmed with red.

But when he looked down and saw the pure gold gemstone necklace around Caleb's neck, the anger returned to his face.

He reached out and yanked the necklace off, clutching it tightly in his hand.

His small face flushed with rage.

"This is my mom's! Why are you wearing it?"

He suddenly looked up at me with a hint of pleading.

"Mom, didn't you say this was for me? Why did you give it to him?"

I smiled slightly, reaching out to pull Ethan to his feet.

Instead of embracing him, I gently pushed him away.

I helped Caleb up, brushing the dust from his clothes.

Drawing him into my arms, I snatched the necklace from Ethan's hand.

Calmly, I reminded him:

"You have the same necklace. You thought it was ugly and threw it in the trash."

Last year on his birthday, I spent two weeks learning how to forge matching necklaces, hammering the metal until my hands were raw and bleeding. I set two high-grade healing crystals into the chains when they were finished.

I gave the more perfect one to him and wore the other around my own neck.

But when he received it, he barely glanced at it before tossing it aside.

Instead, he hugged the new Lego set Sarah had given him and said to me with obvious distaste:

"Mom, please stop giving me worthless things as presents."

I stared at the necklace lying in the trash can, my heart bleeding.

Yet I could only smile awkwardly and nod in agreement.

Now, suddenly, he wanted to take Caleb's necklace from him.

Seeing that I wouldn't help him, tears of frustration sprang to his eyes.

"Mom, I want this one. Can't you..."

"If you like it so much, ask your father to buy you one," I calmly interrupted, taking Caleb's hand as I prepared to leave.

As I turned, I came face to face with Derek, his expression so dark it could have dripped water.

"Viv, this boy just said you had surgery," he said.

"What kind of surgery?"

I shrugged indifferently.

"A miscarriage procedure, of course."
