The forest came alive with chaos. The low growls of the skinwalkers reverberated in the air, sending shivers down my spine. Their yellow eyes glowed menacingly, and their forms—twisted. they moved with a predatory grace that was both mesmerizing and horrifying.

Drake stood tall, his crimson eyes blazing like fire, his aura radiating raw power. His presence seemed to command the very earth beneath him, but even that wasn’t enough to quench the rising of terror that surged through me.

The beta, seated beside me, rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck as if preparing for a casual workout. “This will be fun,” he said, grinning at the sight of the advancing creatures.

Fun? Was he insane?

I signed frantically, “We need to leave! They’ll kill us all!”

He shook his head, his grin widening. “Not with the Alpha here. He’s stronger than all of them combined.”

I wanted to believe him, but the skinwalkers were creatures of nightmares—beings that thrived on bloodlust and destruction. They were nearly impossible to kill, their power unmatched by any other creature. Even the Lycans avoided them if they could.

Drake, however, didn’t seem concerned. He stood still, watching the pack of skinwalkers advance, his expression one of irritation rather than fear.

Then, he shifted.

The transformation was swift, and utterly terrifying. His already imposing figure grew larger, his muscles rippling as white like snow fur sprouted across his body. His claws elongated, and his face turned into that of a beast—a creature that was equal parts majestic and monstrous. The Lycan King in his true form was a sight to behold, and for a moment, even the skinwalkers hesitated.

“Stay in the car,” the beta said again, his tone more serious this time. He opened the door and stepped out, his own transformation beginning as he joined his Alpha, his wolf quite small compared to Drake's.

I was left alone, my heart pounding as I watched through the window. Drake moved with terrifying speed, his claws slicing through the air as he tore into the first skinwalker that lunged at him. The creature let out a bone chilling scream as it fell, its body dissolving into ash before it even hit the ground.

More skinwalkers charged, their movements unpredictable. But Drake was like a driving force no one stood a chance against. He moved like a shadow, his strikes precise and devastating. The beta fought alongside him, his own strength impressive, though it was clear he was no match for the Lycan King.

Despite their strength, the skinwalkers didn’t retreat. If anything, their attacks became more aggressive, as if they were testing Drake’s limits. For every skinwalker he killed, two more seemed to take its place.

Panic bubbled within me as the car shook from the force of the battle outside. The window shattered suddenly, and I ducked with my hand over my head, my breath hitching as shards of glass rained down around me.

A skinwalker had gotten close, its roughly patched face pressed against the opening as it snarled, its jagged teeth glinting dangerousl. My body froze as I stared into its soulless yellow orby eyes.

“Luna!” the beta shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. Before the creature could make its move, he slammed into it, tearing it away from the car.

I scrambled out of the vehicle, my legs trembling as I pressed my back against the car for support. My eyes darted to Drake, who was surrounded by a circle of skinwalkers. Despite their numbers, he stood unyielding, his crimson gaze locking onto mine for a brief moment then back to his beta.

The look he gave his beta was reprimanding.

the look you give to a kid for acting out of character.

Another Skinwalker darted dangerously towards me.

“Run,” his voice echoed in my mind, deep and commanding.

Run? And go where? The forest was brimming with skinwalkers, and without Drake or his beta, I wouldn’t last a second. But the intensity in his gaze left no room for argument.

Summoning what little courage I had, I turned and bolted toward the trees, my feet pounding against the forest floor. My lungs burned with the effort, but I didn’t dare slow down. The sounds of the battle grew fainter as I ran deeper into the woods, but the feeling of being hunted never left me.

A sudden movement in the shadows ahead made me stop abruptly. My chest heaved as I scanned my surroundings, my eyes darting to every flicker of motion. The silence was deafening, broken only by the sound of my own ragged breathing.

Then, a figure stepped out from the darkness.

It wasn’t a skinwalker.

It was Leo.

“Going somewhere, little sister?” he said slowly, his tone dripping with mockery.

My heart sank as he approached, his red eyes glinting with amusement. He was flanked by two of his men, both of whom wore smug expressions as they blocked my path.

“How did you—” I started to sign, but he cut me off with a wave of his hand.

“Did you really think I’d let you leave without supervision?” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “I can’t have my little spy getting caught, now can I?”

Spy? Of course. He wasn’t here to save me. He was here to ensure I carried out his twisted plan.

“You’ve already made your choice, Ember,” he continued, his smile cold. “Don’t make me regret sparing Lily’s life.”

Anger flared within me, but it was quickly replaced by the weight of my situation. I couldn’t defy him, not with Lily’s life hanging in the balance.

“I’m doing what you asked,” I signed, my hands trembling. “Just let me go.”

He chuckled darkly. “Oh, I will. You know I'm not all that bad, little sister. I even came here in my free will to save you."

He said as he walked around me, his face plastered in amusement.

"Please Leo, let me go." I said, tears choking me.

"Of course i have to let you go, You have a Lycan king to...." he wrapped his hand around his neck chocking himself.

"Ho..ho..how dare...yo..you lay your hands on the lycan king." Leo laughed manically as he mimicked Drake voice shamelessly chocking himself.

I suddenly felt nauseated seeing such freak show he's putting on.

"You’re mad! You're psychotic asshole!" I signed, hitting him repeatedly on his shoulder.

"hey..hey..hey!" Leo yelled as he gripped my arm squeezing it. "Get your head in the right place cause one mistake from you, Lily dies, remember, I’m always watching.”

With that, he turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving me to collapse to the ground, my body trembling with fear and frustration.

The faint sound of howls reached my ears, and I knew I had to move. Drake would come looking for me soon, and I couldn’t let him find me like this.

I picked myself up and began walking back toward the battle, my mind racing.

No escaping now, I will have to follow up with Leo’s plan. kill Drake? is that even possible? yes...I have to, but just for today, I will protect Drake. i had just meet my second chance mate, Even if it meant betraying him later, I couldn’t let him die now.

Minutes turned into hours, and hours into days in the castle. It actually felt like I was brought here to be fed and abandoned. I was always alone in my chamber at night, and in the morning, the servants would fetch me for breakfast in a big dining room with only two enormous chairs, one at each end of the large gold dining table. One for me, and the other for Drake. I wondered why he went through the trouble of bringing me here if he was just going to abandon me. It felt lonely, even though I wasn't allowed to lift a finger to work, and I was supposed to be happy to be in a place where I was respected. But I wasn't happy at all. The pungent, damp smell of wet clothes clung to the air, mingling with the squeaks of rodents scuttling too close for comfort. My entire body screamed with pain, my whole nerve wrecked, and for a slight moment, I wished the agony would simply end. My throat, dry to the point of cracking, fought even to let air pass. “Help... he... lp,” I tried to scream, but all that escaped was a pathetic whisper. The effort alone sent sharp aches through my chest. How long had I been here? I couldn’t tell anymore. Time have seem to have stood still. I closed my eyes, willing for any form of release. “Moon Goddess,” I whispered silently, my tears hot as they streaked down my filth-covered face. “If you’re real, if you can hear me, please help me. If not to survive, then let me die. Anything to end this.” The prayer was bitter, raw, and full of anger. I didn’t care if cursing the goddess brought me more bad fortune. What could possibly be worse than this? She deserved my rage for letting me suffer
