She was exhausted and she felt sick but there was nothing she could do about it. The voices in her head screamed in unison and told her to find a way out of the misery she was in. She took a moment to gather her thoughts but conflicting ideas corrupted her mind. She tried to fight but she didn’t know if it’s worth fighting for! She was hopeless!
It has been an hour since she sat in front of the mirror and eyed the scissor nearby. The mean words from her late father echoed inside her head, and every second that passed she began to believe him. Blair cursed at the woman in the mirror and narrowed her eyes to check her appearance. She tied her long hair into a messy bun to check every pore on her face.
Everything went wrong in her life! She just lost her job because of a woman’s insecurity! She could probably let it slide but it didn’t happen once! Her longest tenure in a company would only be a week or less than a month. How would she keep on living without a stable income? She would starve to death!
She had no surviving family aside from the mother who abandoned her when she was only four years old, and her excuse for a father was abusive to her until the day he died. Until his last breath, he cursed at her mother and wished they didn’t look the same. As if it was her fault for inheriting her mother’s goddess-like feature!
Maybe he was right all this time!
Blair closed her eyes as her hands slowly inched their way towards the scissor and when her fingers touched the coldness of the blade, she grabbed it! Then, she untied her hair and without thinking thoroughly, she began cutting her hair. Little by little, long strands of jet black hair fell onto the floor. However, when she stared at her image in the mirror, she cringed at her appearance.
She bit her lower lip as she strode towards the door, and went outside. She recalled that her father always has an extra shaver in his bathroom, and she’s on her way to retrieve it! She decided to go hairless and damn the consequences!
The door to his father’s room creaked when she pushed it slowly. The old man has been dead for several months, but it was her first time to visit his room, and it’s creepy. It was as if his spirit remained lingering in his bedroom, and she had to sprint towards the bathroom.
The sound of her heartbeat was almost deafening as she left and returned to her room, with the shaver on her right hand. She took several deep breaths before she resumed sitting in front of the mirror, and shaved her hair!
Ten minutes later, she was torn between crying and laughing at her appearance. She’s bald and she looked like a monk! She looked horrible without a single hair on her head, and she regretted her impulsive decision to shave it. She stared at the mirror without blinking her eyes, and she almost jumped when someone knocked on her door.
It must be Tracy, her tenant. She regretted her decision when she couldn’t even show her bald head to anyone, especially to her tenant. Tracy has been renting the extra bedroom even when her father was still alive, and they have been friends since then. She searched for a hoodie in her wardrobe and wore it on top of her clothes before she went to open the door.
“Hey,” she greeted the woman who brought a bag of goodies from the bakeshop where she worked. “Is that for me?” She inquired but before Tracy could respond, she took the bag from her, and let the woman in.
“Why are you wearing a hoodie? Don’t you feel hot?” She had been wondering from the moment Blair opened the door because it was thirty-eight degrees outside! She looked around, and when her eyes got a glimpse of black hair on the floor, her eyes widen and aimed for the hoodie on Blair’s head. “Shit! What have you done?” She exclaimed upon seeing her bald head for the first time.
Blair was embarrassed when her bald head was exposed, but she couldn’t do anything about it anymore. It was done, and the only thing she could do was to wait for her hair to grow again. “I don’t want to be Blair anymore, Tracy.” She said.
When she first saw her landlord’s daughter, she envied Blair’s one of a kind beauty and wished she would look as great as her. However, Blair has a bad fortune and her father always blamed it for her looks and said that it was cursed. “What do you mean, Blair? Why would you believe your father? He didn’t do anything but tormented you!”
Blair sat down on the edge of her bed, and Tracy did the same. “What if he’s right? Ever since, I was unlucky!” She exclaimed as she recalled how much she endured while growing up.
“But your hair!” Tracy’s hand moved to touch Blair’s head, but the woman was fast enough to block her hand.
“They will grow again,” she smiled while massaging the shiny scalp and both women burst into laughter. “So, how do you like my new look?” She asked.
Tracy cringed while staring at the hairless head of her friend. “What’s your plan?” She inquired.
“Hmmm, I’m not sure, but maybe I should shop for a man’s clothes. Or maybe I should get a tattoo or a piercing to match my appearance, what do you think?” She imagined other ways inside her head on how to look manly.
Tracy pouted her lips while she squinted her eyes at Blair. Although she didn’t agree to her plans at all, she wouldn’t stop her, and the least she could do was to support her as a friend. “Oh well, your figure may be slim, but it’s the trend nowadays. It’s painful to have a tattoo, and you know, it’s permanent. Won’t you regret it later?” She asked while eyeing Blair’s blemished-free skin.
“In my current situation, regret is out of the question Tracy. I’m desperate!” She lied.
“I understand. Should I get inked as well?” Tracy suggested, and when Blair smiled, they both wrinkled their noses and grinned.
When it comes to hiring his personnel, Carmela Gordon was hands-on. She only wanted the best for her son, and no HR personnel could do better than her in hiring the best person to become Jacob’s secretary.Out of a hundred applicants, only one person stood out, and Carmela was excited to see him again. Based on her judgment as a mother, that particular guy would be the perfect secretary for Jacob. The guy was witty and smart, and Carmela could immediately tell he wouldn’t be a headache to Jacob.“Mom, be honest with me, who is this guy? Your boyfriend?” Jacob jested about the new secretary which his mother was talking about.Carmela arched her perfectly shaded brows to Jacob for joking about her boyfriend. Maybe it would be fun to have a young man, but she wouldn’t do that! It would only embarrass her son who ran a bank empire. “Geez! How can you say that to me, baby?”Jacob cringed at the endearment that his mother used when they’re alone.
Everyone in his family expected him to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfathers – to be a playboy! However, they had no idea he has no girlfriend since birth. He’s not gay and he wasn’t afraid of women. He couldn’t hurt a single woman, because of his mother! His grandmother would scold him for being a mama’s boy, but he wasn’t a mama’s boy either. He just wanted to make his mother happy after she suffered so much from his father’s betrayal.Jacob hated Blair at first sight. The word heartbreaker was written on his face, and Jacob feared that Blair would target his mother. Although his mother was already in her fifties, she didn’t look like one, and a young man’s attention would surely make her heart flutter like a schoolgirl. Jacob clenched his fist while Blair glanced at his mother for moral support when he ordered to have his tattoo removed!“Baby, it’s just a tattoo! Common, please be reasonable.” Carmela Gordon reasoned out on behalf of the newly-hired
Blair cursed like a sailor when she arrived home, and Tracy immediately joined her in the living room. Before she could rant heavily, she stormed off towards the kitchen, and a Popsicle was on her hand when she returned. She also handed one to Tracy.“I’m pissed!” She declared while licking the Popsicle with watermelon flavor.“Pissed? You said that everything's going to be alright!” Tracy reminded Blair of their conversation before the woman left for Wolf Bank to work. “Don’t tell me that you got fired on your first day,” she said apologetically.“I’d rather be fired than to work with him,” she replied.Tracy narrowed her eyes at Blaire because she believed that there was something more to her story and she had to know all the details. “Why?” Tracy inquired.“Jacob Gordon is the most impossible boss that I’ve worked with,” Blair answered.“You work at Wolf Bank?” Tracy asked.Blair creased her forehead at Tracy because the
Blair had been working with him for three months already and he appreciated his good work. The man was efficient in his job, and he couldn’t ask for more. His mother always asked him to invite Blair to their house after work, and Jacob thought that the day he would grant his mother’s wish has arrived.“Are you free after work?” Jacob asked his secretary after he signed the document.Blair regretted making a deal with Tracy that day because when she returned to work, she kept noticing how great Jacob was as a man. She tried to suppress her attraction towards Jacob Gordon, but it was difficult. Day after day, she discovered that Jacob Gordon was one of a kind, and he has great qualities too, even if he’s gay!“Why?” She dreaded the time when Jacob would ask her the question.“My mother wanted you to have dinner at home,” he said. When Jacob mentioned his mother, how could she refuse? Mrs. Gordon was always kind to her, and she would always favor her
Blair expected to see caviar and truffles on the table but the food being served was far from her expectations. There’s only rice, pork sinigang, and grilled pork chop. When she glanced across the table, she caught Jacob staring at her, and it made her uncomfortable. The way he gazed at her seemed like he was in the middle of a serious meeting with the board of directors.“Do you love sinigang? It’s my grandmother’s favorite and we have it at least once a week,” Jenny informed Blair who sat quietly beside her.Blair cleared her throat before she opened her mouth to speak. Since she became Jacob’s secretary, she had always been careful with her voice. She may not sound like a real man, but her adjusted voice would pass as a teenage boy. “I love it, Jenny.” She answered.Jenny filled Blair’s bowl with the sinigang soup and also helped him with the grilled
In the morning, Jacob was surprised to see his cousin waiting for him. She was dressed to kill as if she’s going to walk on a fashion show. Usually, he wouldn’t eat his breakfast at home and he wondered if Jenny has a prior appointment when she followed him towards the garage.“Are you going somewhere?” He asked when she stood close to his car.“I’m going with you to the office,” she replied. After Jacob took Blair home last night, she went to her grandmother to talk about working at the Wolf Bank. Before her modeling career, she studied Business Management because it was required for everyone in the Gordon Family. Although they were allowed to pursue a different career, a degree in business management was required or risked the wrath of the old woman.Jacob frowned at her response that she’s going to the office with him. “Why? Do you have to make
When Blair returned to the office, she wasn’t surprised to see Jenny. She expected her visit but what caught her attention was the box of chicken she’s holding in her hand.“I heard you love chicken,” Jenny said.“I love chicken and beer,” she stated.“Shall we get some beers for lunch?” Jenny asked.“It’s not allowed to drink during office hours, Miss Gordon.” She reminded Jenny that the office wasn’t a place for drinking beers. “But we can just have it later,” she added when Jenny frowned.“I love it!” Jenny exclaimed, and then she ordered Jacob to get ready for lunch. The head office of Wolf Bank has a cafeteria on the ground floor and it was exclusive for the staff. “Just bring it to the cafeteria, Jen.” He ordere
Every time she walked into Jacob and Jenny, Blair could feel the tension between them and she wondered what caused it. “Good morning!” she greeted both of them when she entered the office.“You’re late!” Jacob bellowed.“It’s only two minutes, Jacob. Common, don’t be so harsh on him,” Jenny defended Blair and it made his cousin more furious than ever. She had no idea what’s wrong with him but since she joined the company, he has changed. He used to be sweet around her, but lately, she noticed that he’s different.“A minute or two always matters for a businessman, Jen. And while we are it, is there any progress at your mission?” He asked but it was to remind her that she wouldn’t be able to do anything just because she’s confident.Jenny’s mood was ruined when he incorporated her mission into t
Due to Tracy’s nonstop crying, Blair wasn’t able to narrate her own story to Tracy. She was supposed to share with Tracy how Carmela Gordon discovered her secret but she deemed it necessary to comfort her friend first.“Ramen?” Blair asked if she wanted some ramen but Tracy only stared at her. She raised her eyebrows at her to question her opinion but the other woman didn’t say anything at all. She began to worry that Tracy would burst into tears again. No, she couldn’t handle another round of her crying.“Kimchi ramen,” Tracy replied.“What?”“I said that kimchi ramen can help me feel better,” she replied. By all means, Blair was right that it was no use in crying over spilled milk. There’s another woman involved and that’s the reason why he broke up with her. “Then let’s go!” Blair announced joyfully after she put on a hoodie and even helped Tracy to wipe her tears.“I’ll be forever grateful to you, Blair.”
Blair didn’t expect to be given the most difficult mission in her life and that was to make Jacob fall for her. When Jacob returned from his date, she couldn’t look at him in the eye. She was also hesitant to take the paper bag with goodies from the nearby coffee shop. “It’s from Jenny,” Jacob insisted when Blair hesitated in accepting the gift from his cousin. She was more disappointed when it wasn’t him who bought the goodies but his cousin. She checked the goodies inside, and when it contained her favorite croissants, her eyes widen in excitement to pair it with coffee. “Thanks, that’s sweet of her,”she said. Jacob wanted to grab the bag and threw it in the nearest bin but it would make him look like an immature child who’s having a tantrum. “Don’t yo
For a moment, Brennan Lim was dumbfounded at the revelation that Jenny Gordon was related to Jacob as a cousin. Although she introduced herself as a Gordon, who knew if she’s only a poser? Or Jenny Gordon was only a name she used while modeling? He stared at the woman for the longest time and he felt bad for insulting her. Nevertheless, he wouldn’t apologize for what he did in the past because he enjoyed it very much!“Sit down, Jenny!” He ordered and immediately warned Jacob not to interfere. “Don’t worry, Gordon. Your cousin is safe with me,” he assured Jenny’s cousin, however, he couldn’t blame him. After all, his notorious lifestyle was famous amongst their circle.“I’m not worried about my cousin, Lim. I’m worried about you,” Jacob said and the only response he got from Brennan Lim was a raised eyebrow. “Jen, I have to go back to the office now.”She knew that Jacob wasn’t pleased with her treatment of his secretary but Blair was
Carmela Gordon tapped her feet as she studied her reflection in the elevator. She’s maybe in her fifties but she refused to dress according to her age. She could still wear tight jeans or even short shorts and even a miniskirt! However, for today’s activities, she dolled herself with Hugo’s floral dress and paired the look with a black wedge. Then, she smiled sweetly as she exited from the elevator and as always, she looked sophisticated and chic in her outfit. As she walked towards her son’s office, excitement rose within her chest. One of her friend’s daughters just returned from Europe and she’s excited to introduce Jacob to Zanetta Matsuda.Slowly, she pushed the thick door to open it and she was surprised to see that it was empty! Where’s everyone? If Jacob was engaged with something outside the office, the secretary was supposed to stay to take in important calls on behalf of her son.She walked towards Jacob’s desk and sat on his huge swivel chair. She
