Tensed, every single muscle in his body went as tight as a coiled spring. Reluctantly, Matthew turned his head to meet her watchful gaze. Upon realizing that he was still on a call, he abruptly ended the call.

“My mom, I don’t want her to come looking for you.” Matthew said with a solemn tone.

“I see.” It warmed Kirsten's heart that Matthew always protected her against people who wanted to hurt her.

“Come here.” He hooked his forefinger.

Hurriedly Kirsten without hesitation came to his side. Once she was near him, Kirsten found herself in the comfort of his embrace.

“Always remember this and no matter what happens, you are the love of my life.”

Like a bird flapping its wings, Kirsten's heart fluttered in euphoria.

“I misjudged you during our first meeting. I thought you had a stone cold heart.”

“You made the right assessment. But you warmed my heart,” Matthew said with a hoarse voice.

Kirsten’s stomach growled as Matthew dipped his head for a kiss, stopping him. Kirst

At the beginning, Matthew was unfazed when Knox put the blame on him. However, Knox’s last sentence ruffled Matthew’s feathers. Just the thought of Kirsten being in another man’s arms made him mad. And yet, he could not vent his anger as Knox was Kirsten’s beloved brother. “Shut up! You don’t know what you're saying!” Kirsten said pointedly. Knox looked at Kirsten with an aggrieved expression. Kirsten never used such a harsh tone to him and never once got angry at him even when he acted like a spoiled child to her. Because of this, he started to dislike Matthew. “I was never scolded by you but because of your husband you scolded me. You have changed Kirsten.” Knox wanted Kirsten to realize that the untoward incident today was because of Matthew. “James would never let this thing happen to mom if he’s your husband.” Matthew was secretly pleased that Kirsten chose to stand for him even when it would hurt her brother. Kirsten closed her eyes and rubbed her temple, trying hard not to

There’s no more hope for us, no matter what you do. This is my last warning to you, Vanessa. I will completely make your family lose everything. And you have to say goodbye to the life you are enjoying.” “Are there really no chances for us to get back together?” Vanessa asked softly.

In the middle of the dinner, Kirsten caught sight of Vanessa from afar. Having noticed that Kirsten was looking elsewhere, Matthew asked with a frown. “Who are you looking at?” “The woman I met this afternoon. She told me that her boyfriend, in order to protect her, got engaged to a woman his family had chosen for him.” A noticeable repulsion flashed in her eyes which was not lost on him. Realizing the similarity of the story to his, Matthew turned his head and looked at the direction Kirsten was looking at and saw Vanessa. “Call of nature,” Matthew said while he stood. In a haste he headed to the restroom and called the bodyguards following them discreetly and barked an instruction. Seeing that Vanessa was in panic when intercepted by two men in black suits, Kirsten went over to check what was happening. “I don’t know you, why would I come with you!” Vanessa answered sharply, trying to push her way out of the men but they held her arms. “Hey, what are you doing to her?” Kirsten

It was a six bedroom apartment, equipped with a huge living room and kitchen hence, Kirsten urged Klaire and her husband, Wilson to move in with Gillian and Knox. Again under Matthew’s persuasion the couple moved in with Gillian. And then he gave Klaire and Wilson a job in one of his company subsidiaries just one bus ride away from the apartment. One by one Gillian put away the items she bought in the supermarket. Just as she finished with her task, Knox arrived from school. Knox was startled when Gillian hugged him tightly and kissed his cheeks. The last time Gillian hugged and kissed him like this was before the surgery. “W

Arrange someone to look after you.” He walked towards Kirsten, then held her hand. “You’re tired of looking after him the entire day.” “Who informed you?” Kirsten asked. “Still don't know, wife?” Matthew gently pinched her cheek. “Ninjas!” Kirsten called the men stealthy guarding them, Ninjas. “Let’s go,” Matthew pulled her gently but she remained in her place. “You still wanted to look after him?” Matthew asked, raising a brow. “No, I wouldn’t dare stay another second. I’m afraid my presence would only cause grandpa’s health to deteriorate. But make sure that someone will take care of him.”“Alright,” Matthew nodded and went outside to make a call. Kirsten smiled and said, “I will handle the discharge procedure, grandpa.” Norman was sleeping when Don arrived in the hospital. “Thank you, madam. No one could stand the temper of the old sir except you.” Don said quietly. Kirsten responded with a giggle. “The doctor gave a go signal that it’s alright to take him home. Anyway, I have to go.” In the corridor, Kirsten was surprised to meet James. Her heart constricted looking at the man who shed a few pounds, looking thinner. But the man still looked handsome and could turn heads. “James?” Looking into her best friend’s eyes, Kirsten could see grief surrounding him. “What happened?” She held his hand and took him to the nearby bench. “Dad, dad… he’s dead.” Though he shed no tears, his sorrow bled in his voice. Wordlessly, Kirsten consoled James, holding

Loving a hooker like her," Jenny yelled while pointing her finger at Kirsten. “Stop right there!” Matthew had enough. He wouldn’t let Kirsten humiliated. “Apologize to my wife.” Matthew ordered. Jenny was stunned at the revelation but her stubbornness and pride made her callous. She would never apologize to her. “Over my dead body! I will never apologize to a whore. She's a nobody, a woman who sells her body." “Then, see you in court,” Matthew's countenance gave a hint of the brewing tempest. “What’s happening here?” Graciella Lincoln heard Matthew as she stepped into the hall. “Mr Roosevelt!” Graciella smiled at him. "Excuse me for a while, I'll come back in a bit," she said and strode off to Matthew and Kirsten after the person nodded. Though feeling embittered, Graciella wore a smile on her face. "Mr Roosevelt… " Graciella paused for a moment and continued despite the niggling feeling she had. "Mrs Roosevelt." As though they had talked about it, in synchrony, Matthew nodded their head and said, "Mrs Lincoln." The exchange between them was watched by the people inside the hall. Following Graciella's lead, Matthew and Kirsten took the front seat and then left them, seemingly restless. The people who had witnessed the whole fiasco the night before began to rethink if Jenny's statement was true. "Looking for him?" Matthew's jealous voice rang in her ears when her eyes scanned the place looking for James. Like a child caught stealing a candy,

Gemma had just come out of the study at the time Matthew arrived at the door of the study. “How is she?” Matthew asked quietly. “She hadn’t stopped working since after she took a stroll after lunch,” Gemma informed him, Matthew nodded, holding the door handle, with a click he pushed the door. Absorbed in her work, Kirsten didn’t hear the clicking sound and kept her eyes trained on the screen of her MacBook. From where he stood, he could see her side profile. She decided to talk to her in person. “Just disembarked from the plane,” Sherry answered, sighing. “I will head to the police and see Gustaff.” “Come and see me after you speak with Gustaff.” Fatigue laced Kirsten’s voice as she spoke but Sherry did not notice it because she was preoccupied with Gustaff’s matter. “Alright, I’ll see you then,” Sherry said and slid the end call button. Without being asked, Matthew drew Kirsten to him and had her prop her body on his hard chest and surrounded her in his arms. “Take a nap. I will wake you up when we’re home,” Matthew whispered in her ear and pressed his lips on her temple. “Mm,” humming, she shut her eyes though she had no plan on ta
