In his car, Lucas taps his steering wheel over and over again, staring at the lit up face of his phone, open on a contact ID.

The contact read Logan.

Nothing more, no emojis or anything showing familiarity. It's just as the way you'd save a stranger you meet on the bus, no form of fondness or anything, even worse when the person behind the phone number is supposed to be a family member.

He decides not to call and just keeps his phone.

He looks up at the brightly lit sign bearing the name "Mi-nello" and whispers to the air. "I promise to protect you, Mikayla, no matter what it costs me." Before he zooms out, driving south of there.

He passes a lot of buildings, finally coming to a stop in front of a tall apartment building owned by Logan. He sighs and turns off the car before stepping out, locking it.

He sighs once again, cold creeping up his shoulders from what he's about to go meet in there. He knows Logan and himself have no shred of being called family so there's no use hoping for
