Chapter 6

Amelia came back to her senses when she heard the voice. She opened her eyes which were wet with tears and was stunned when she found herself hugging a strange man.

“What the…?” she wanted to swear but she shut her mouth just as the words were about to reach her tongue.

She peered up and struggled to move away from the man. The man did not make things difficult for her and let go of her immediately. He took a step back and maintained a safe distance between them.

Amelia stared at the man who was standing before her. Her eyes traveled from his head when she saw his handsome face, astonishment flashed through her eyes. She has always been proud of her aesthetic taste as she has always thought that Oliver was a cut above the rest, but the man before her, his handsome face was heaven-defying.

She averted her eyes as she swallowed a huge chunk of saliva without noticing. But soon after, she peered at him again. Her eyes went down and saw the mess that she has done on his black suit, her face burning with embarrassment.

Even so, Amelia felt like she has never seen this man and definitely did not know him. Had he entered the wrong room or was she hallucinating? But this seemed so real, there was no way her mind was playing a trick on her.

“Err sorry sir, but did you enter the wrong room?” after a long time, Amelia finally found her voice and asked.

But what she received as a reply was the man’s cool and unfathomable gaze checking her out. His eyes were so mysterious and dark that Amelia did not dare to maintain eye contact.

“Sorry about that.” Amelia scratched her head awkwardly as she pointed at his dirty shirt. She had lost control earlier and had even made such a mess of someone’s clothes. Good thing they did not know each other or else she wouldn’t have known where to hide her face.

Axel continued to stare at her intently. Amelia did not know what else to do or say so she decided to flee.

“I will go take a shower. The doctor will be coming to change the dressing on my wound soon.” Amelia said.

“Miss Lightwood, never try that stunt again, you are not fit for an action movie.” the man said after a long time, startling Amelia who had already turned her back on him.

“What?” her back stiffened as she asked without turning around. For a moment, she did not understand what the man was enunciating.

“You trying to throw yourself out of the window. You don’t have to act in such a dangerous scene.” the man said. His voice was plain that Amelia could not tell whether he was being sarcastic or not.

“I wasn’t shooting a movie,” Amelia replied on reflex. She had wanted to throw herself out of the window and end her life. couldn’t this man tell or was he just acting dumb?

“Then what were you doing?” the man pressed.

“Getting some fresh air.”

“Ha.” the man chuckled. “Next time, be a little more careful, miss Lightwood.” the man spoke. He walked passed her and headed towards the door.

When he passed by the small cabinet, he saw that the blue roses were still there but his business card and the note that he had left were on the floor. He picked them up and looked at them.

He did not know why he had left them there yesterday. He tried asking himself the same question throughout the night but he had not found an answer.

“Did you like the flowers?” his sudden question stunned Amelia who had calmed down after so many efforts.

“The what?” her expression was blank as she looked at the man who was holding the note and the business card.

He pointed at the flowers with his chin as he looked at her.

“You… you are the one who sent this? you are…?” Amelia looked on in horror at the man who was standing in the room. Axel looked at her face turning pale and frowned in confusion.

‘What is wrong with her? wasn’t she fine just a moment ago? Why is she looking at me like she has seen a ghost?’ Axel thought. ‘Am I that scary?’

This girl seemed to be under a lot of pressure so, he decided to leave. He felt that she was hard to understand the more he looked at her.

“I will be leaving. I wish you a quick recovery.” Axel said. He left the note and the card on the cabinet and left without turning back.

When Amelia heard the door close, she slumped on the floor with a thud! Her knees had become so weak that they could not support her. Her back was drenched in sweat and her chest moved up and down as she gasped for air.

“What had I done? This man is actually Axel, but why does he look human? Are all the rumors about him being a beast fake?”

There was so much going on in her mind that Amelia felt like she was about to faint. She did not even realize when Peter came in and it was only after she had been placed on the bed did she react.

“Are you feeling well miss? I found you lying on the floor just now. Should I call the doctor to check on you?”Peter asked. Amelia was looking at him in a daze as if she had lost her soul. It made Peter worried that he wanted to skin the doctor alive.

What had they done to her? His boss had told him that nothing can happen to her, absolutely nothing!

“I will call that damn doctor right now. What did I pay them for?”

“I am f… I am fine,” Amelia said with much difficulty. She seemed to be slowly returning to her senses.

“What happened? Weren’t you fine when we left yesterday?” Peter asked. He did not understand what was going on with her.

Remembering what had happened earlier, Amelia trembled and curled herself into a ball. Her face expressed extreme fear that made Peter look at her in confusion.

“Are you sure you are fine?” Peter asked again. Seeing how she was, he could not help but worry.

“I will go and call the doctor,” Peter said and turned around to leave the room. Amelia was staring at the wall in a daze. She seemed not to have heard him.

He opened the door and came in contact with Chloe who had just arrived.

“You are here?” she asked in a surprised voice.

“Yeah. I came to check on her but she is not doing well. I found her on the floor shivering and now she is not responding to anything I say. I am going to find the doctor.” Peter gave Chloe a simple explanation.

“What happened? wasn’t she fine when we left yesterday? Could the injury have been severe and now she has turned into a dummy? But didn’t the doctor say that it was just a light concussion?”

“That is what I don’t understand. Go in and I will go and find the doctor.”

“Okay. Hurry up!” Chloe said and entered the room.

Seeing her best friend sitting dazed on the bed, she was so heartbroken that she felt like crying. Can’t God have mercy on her just once? She has been through a lot already.

“Girl, are you alright?” Chloe walked over and called out in a soft voice. She was afraid that she might startle her so, she did not dare talk in a loud voice.

Amelia’s gaze gained some clarity when she heard the familiar voice. She turned around and looked at her friend.

“You are here?” she asked in a hoarse voice. It was a clear indication that she has been crying since her eyes were also wet.

“What happened to you? Why are you like this? Did someone come and bully you?” Chloe fired off a series of questions.

“Someone?”

“Yeah, who bullied you?” Chloe walked towards the bed but her eyes caught the presence of the blue roses that were on the cabinet. She cried out in surprise as she went over to sniff them.

“Who brought you these flowers? My God, they are so beautiful.” she was already counting them, totally forgetting about her friend whom she had been worried about just a moment ago.

“Amelia, did Oliver come to see you?” Chloe turned around and looked at Amelia. The latter was looking at her with a still gaze and it made Chloe feel guilty for some reason.

She had been captivated by the flowers and now she was asking about such a sensitive topic, she really was not considerate of her friend at all.

“I am sorry dear. I did not mean to ask about him,” she said and went forward to hug her friend. Amelia hugged her back and sobbed silently.
