Chapter 6

LISTOWEL’S POV

My butler, Kevin, had informed me earlier about my invitation to the legal hour conference. If not for the fact that it is one of the most prestigious events in Aphrodite City, I would have turned down the invitation.

I hate meetings and conferences. But this is a chance for me to network with other executives and presidents of famous brands, so I wouldn't miss this for anything. To maintain my influence and power in this city; I've got to mingle with these people.

Within the blink of an eye, my car pulled up in front of the infamous Glory Palace, where the conference was going to be held. It is an 82-floor building, known for its serenity and perfect ambiance, purposely built to cater to the demands of the first-class citizens in the city.

Kevin walked up to my side of the door as soon as he turned off the engine. With a slight bow, he opened the door to usher me out. Fixing the one stubborn button on my suit that had removed itself from its hole earlier, I headed towards the entrance.

A train of guards, neatly dressed in black suits ushered me in as they handed me a magnetic card. I swiped it on the entry system and ding, the door pushed open.

The rich fragrance and cool yet chilly aura exuding from the room greeted me as I stepped foot inside. My eyes scanned the crowd trying to find anyone familiar and it landed on Wendy.

Our gaze didn't meet, so I hurriedly headed towards the opposite direction, trying as much as possible to avoid her. She's the last person I would want to chat with.

As I strode through the crowd, the compliments and gasps from random ladies filled the air. Others stared blankly at me as I walked passed them, probably mesmerized by my handsome physique.

Yes, I know, I've received so many compliments to pretend to not know that I’m breathtakingly handsome.

My gaze drifted to an isolated section of the room and I instinctively grabbed a seat there, away from the busy attendees. I was about to pull my phone from my pocket when “splash”, I felt a cold liquid dripping down my suit.

Gosh! This is why I hate being in the crowd! Careless

people everywhere!

I gritted my teeth in annoyance, anger boiling inside me as my eyes darted around for the culprit. Before I could look at her face, she hurriedly pulled a handkerchief to wipe off the water.

How dare she touch my suit with that filthy handkerchief of hers? Only God knows the millions of germs hovering on it.

My jaw tightened in anger, my knuckles white from the hardness of my clenched fist as I stared coldly at her. Does she know how much this suit is worth? The buttons on it alone could change her entire existence.

I nearly yanked her lustrous hands away before she raised her gaze and it met mine.

“I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to—” she pleaded, her words hanging in her throat as soon as our gazes met.

My heart skipped a beat at the physique before me. Melissa, unlike the gentle wife she used to be, stood in front of me in a white suit that accentuated her curves. The matching sleek Louboutin heels she had on elongated her legs, making her taller than before while the wind blew her black wavy hair.

Time seemed to have stopped as I stared into her soft and soothing golden eyes. My mind went blank and it was instantly filled with exciting memories of the times we spent together in the past.

Looking at those beautiful eyes of hers sunken my heart into several emotions. Longing, pain, guilt, anger, regret, and excitement coursed through every part of my body.

“Lisa?” I called out, trying to make sure I was not hallucinating again. For a moment, her presence felt like a dream. One of those dreams that I've had for the past seven years.

“Melissa Mugins?” I called out once more but she didn't answer, neither did she blink her focused gaze away. She stood there, still, probably because she also recognized me.

Her cheeks flushed pink and she opened her lips to talk, but I beat her to it. I took a step closer and before she could resist, pulled her into a tight hug. My heart leaped in joy as I inhaled her alluring lavender smell. The particular smell I've been yearning for the past few years.

I pulled her tighter, her head resting on my chest as I whispered into her ears “I miss you” Tears suddenly rushed to my eyes at my confession. I've been waiting for this day for so long. I virtually practice telling Mellissa these words every morning.

It feels exactly the way I had envisioned. It feels as if a heavy burden has been lifted off my chest.

A tap on my shoulders pulled me back to reality. Whispers and murmurings from the people around filled the air. I opened my eyes to see Wendy, standing beside me, forcing a smile across her face as she looked at me in confusion.

Melissa suddenly pulled my arms away from her embrace and said “Sir, please respect boundaries”. Her words shattered my heart. The look on her face as she spilled out those words wasn’t the same as the Melissa I know.

Unlike the delicate woman, this Melissa looks fierce and determined. Before I could talk back at her, she turned and strode towards the entrance, leaving me alone to endure the confused gazes of the crowd.
