MELISSA’S POV I was thrown back to reality as Listowel left. The rooms became eerily silent, just like it has always been. Maybe I needed a partner after all. Even though allowing Listowel to come here was a bad idea, his presence made this house feel like home. While he was busily attending to my knees, one of the many thoughts that was swirling in my mind was my imagination of how perfect it would have been if we were an actual couple. I imagined how fun life would have been if Listowel knew about Crystal and we were actually living together. I couldn’t help but envisage how lovely our family would have been if only I were not a contract wife to Listowel but his real wife and there wasn’t any such person like Wendy in the picture. “How would have life been?” I thought aloud as I stood up on my feet. Heaving a sigh, I glanced at the center table, grabbed the remote, turned off the lights in the living room, and headed to my washroom. I needed to take a quick shower befor
LISTOWEL’S POV The awkward silence that settled between us was too palpable to not notice. I was still on my phone looking for other alternatives while Lisa on the other hand was lying down on the couch. She had turned the TV back on and was watching some wildlife documentaries. It seemed what I had said earlier had pissed her off because, for the past ten minutes, she didn't make a sound nor did she make any movements. Her attention was keenly focused on the TV. Initially, I had wanted to take my leave and stop inconveniencing her further but on second thought, I realized I didn't stand a chance of being safe outside either. It was already late and I couldn't guarantee I would be able to catch a cab even if it was safe outside. Letting out a sigh of exhaustion, I gently placed my phone by the window. I didn't want to make a sound to disturb her. Without warning, Melissa stood up abruptly and entered a room I guess was her bedroom and returned with a blanket and pillow.
LISTOWEL’S POV She handed to me the blanket and pillow before saying, “It’s not a five-star hotel, but you’ll be able to pass the night here.” An unconscious smile tugged at my lips as I took them and sat on the couch. “Alright, thank you. Please turn off the lights for me.” Melissa didn’t say anything, she only hissed and turned to leave. But as she turned, the fluffy slipper she was wearing caught on to the ends of the blanket I was holding. Before she could balance her stance, one of her slippers flew in the air, while the other slid down, sending her tumbling to the floor. “Watch out….” I shouted as I charged forward, catching her in my arms before she could fully come in contact with the tiled floor. I held her firmly in my arms, waiting for her to process her thoughts. Her eyes were firmly shut as she was still expecting the impact of the fall. I guess she hadn’t realized she was seated on my lap with her arms tightly wrapped around my neck. I couldn’t hel
WENDY’S POV A slight yawn escaped my lips as I stretched my arms lazily on the bed this morning. My mind swirled with plans of how I was going to get Listowel to myself once and for all. My lips curled up, a sly smirk forming on my face as I thought of a brilliant idea. “Interesting,” I muttered as I unwrapped myself from the tangled sheets and got up from the bed. Sprinting to the dresser, I grabbed my phone and dialed Kevin’s number. Yes, Kevin. I will slowly deceive him and turn him into a minion of mine. If I knew he was this gullible, I would have used him to my advantage long time. Clearing my throat, I rehearsed the soft tone with which I would call his name. I was certain it was going to melt him to give in to my request. The call went through and he picked up on the third ring. With a soft sweet tone, “Hii, Kevin,” I called out, trying as much as possible for him to not notice my pretense. His deep voice echoed from the other end of the call, “Hello, Miss Mancini
WENDY’S POV The loud buzz of music playing at the club lightened my mood. My body twirled rhythmically to the beat of the music as I occasionally sipped the alcohol before me. Although my decision to come here was kind of impromptu, I was enjoying myself regardless. I still had the glass of whiskey I had poured for myself since we arrived here fifteen minutes ago in front of me, barely touched. Yes, in as much as I was enjoying the music, I knew better than to booze. I only lured Kevin here in order to get some information out of him. Afterward, I can go chill by myself with probably some high-profile personalities. Stealing a glance at Kevin who was sitting on my left hand, I figured he had finished the whiskey in a shot and placed his glass on the counter, waiting for another round. I didn't know what to expect when I asked him out but I must say he's really boring! For the past fifteen minutes since our arrival, he hasn’t said much. With how caring he had treate
WENDY’S POV I gently crossed my legs as I leaned back in the chair, patiently waiting for him to start talking. Because he was a bit drank, he wasn’t on the main point. He was only telling some dry jokes which did nothing but irritate me. But I had no other option than to laugh. Placing my arm lightly on his shoulders, “Oh my God, Kevin. You’re so funny. Enough of your silly jokes. Now let’s talk about your work.” I said in a flirtatious tone.“Why… why do you want to know about my work so bad?” He stammered, his head tilting sideways as he tried to maintained his composure. I let out an empty laugh before scoffing, “I hope I’m not asking too much questions. If you’re not comfortable telling me about it, I totally understand. I slowly bent my head as if embrassed and whispered, although loud enough for him to hear. “After all, I’m used to people looking down on me. They see me as not trustworthy.”He shook his head abruptly and replied, “No…, Wendy dear. You don’t have to think
KEVIN’S POV“Ouch..” Wendy let out a loud shrill cry, as she clutched her stomach. “Why what is it?” Her cry caught me by surprise, making me spring up to my feet. I sprinted to her side and assisted to get up on her feet. “My…. my tummy. It aches. I need to go to the washroom now,” she answered, although her tone sounded a bit dramatic to me. I attempted to hold up and maybe escort her to the washroom door but she yanked my hands away. “Thanks but I can go by myself. It isn't really a big deal. I think I just had too much to drink.” she said, making me confused as to what she meant. “Alright… easy there,” I said, letting go of her hands. “I'll be waiting for you here then. No. No need to wait. You can take the lead.” she shouted as she made her to the ladies. “Woww…” I said, taking out money from my wallet and placing it on the bill. The harsh cold breeze greeted me as I stepped outside the bar. I shook vigorously my head in anticipation of getting the influence of the alcoho
KEVIN’S POV My head throbbed as I sat on my bed this morning. The hard liquor I had consumed yesterday was definitely the cause of the pain. Yes, I had threw up the one Wendy made me drink while we sitting at the counter so it was so odd for me to have felt this way. But the truth, I went back to drink more last night. My chest tightened with fury as I tried to recall the events of the previous night. A pang of guilt washed over me as I also recalled my indifferent attitude towards my boss these past few days. I felt mad at myself for doubting him and believing that Wendy deserved better. I couldn't help but replay the scene I had witnessed last night. Wendy, whom we all knew to be obsessed with Listowel was tightly entangled in another man’s arms, kissing him like there was no tomorrow. Initially, I thought I was hallucinating so I got off the car and hid closer to have a proper look. It was indeed her. Even though she had on a scarf which had covered most o
Wendy’s povI roamed gracefully around the department store as I checked out outfits for the little life growing inside me. Rubbing my hands on my belly, I turned to the attendant standing beside me and asked, “What do you think my baby is going to be?” She giggled to herself before she whispered, “A girl?”.The smile on my face instantly vanished, replaced with a grimace. “Are you dumb? What do you mean by a girl? Do you seriously think a girl can become CEO to a company as big as Gordon Inc!” I snapped, glaring at her from the head to toe. Terrified by my high tone, she panicked and bowed her head severally as she apologized, “I’m sorry ma’am. I didn’t think that you will be offended by that. Please forgive me. I’m sorry”Before I could even react, she went down on her knees, holding my legs as she cried, “please ma’am don’t let them fire me. I need to pay my mother’s medical expenses.” She let go of my legs and started rubbing her palms against each other so hard that if a spar
LISTOWEL’S POV A deep sense of relief washed over me as I tapped on the send button. A slow grin played at the sides of my lips as my phone started buzzing with notifications again. Yes, they must have been shocked. I doubt any of them expected the ‘high and mighty’ Wendy Macinni will open her legs for a bartender. I mean, it is not bad that she’s with him. But what makes it unbelievable is the fact Wendy thinks highly of herself and looks down on others. It is just unimaginable for her to be with the same people she disrespected. And oh, I don’t even care whether she stays with him or not. What pisses me off is the fact she’s trying all means to trap me. And that’s one thing I will never allow. I’ll rather die than have her carry my child. Even though I still don’t have the proof that she drugged me the other day, I’m certain that the baby she’s conceived is not mine. Now that I’ve got to know she’s not worth my mercies; I’m going to deal with her ruthlessly! She’s alrea
With my hands crossed over my chest I stood still beside the ceiling to floor glass windows in my office, staring at the landscape of Aphrodite. The fact that I was staring at the landscape beneath me didn’t mean I was admiring it but rather was staring plainly at without having any thoughts of it. My mind was currently a mess and it was swirling with thoughts of the unthinkable. My phone which was lying on the desk behind me was ringing incessantly with calls and notifications from the media houses, relative, business partners and bloggers. Apparently there were news circulating throughout the whole city that the next heir to Gordon Inc has been conceived so they were all reaching out to find out if it’s true. A slow smirk, a chuckle, and then a laugh laughter erupted from my lips echoed throughout my office. Even though the laugh was humorless I couldn’t stop myself from producing it. I laughed and laughed until my chest hurt. I mean, wasn’t it ridiculous enough for them
The alluring smell of hibiscus drifted through the garden as I sat in my garden, enjoying the breeze. The fine porcelain mug which contained the bitter leaf tea I was sipping swirled gently in my hands as I sipped on it.Placing down the mug, “That rude little brat!” I cursed under my breath. I couldn't believe I almost fell for her lies and actually shipped her to be the next lady of the Gordon Group.Even the thought of her makes my skin crawl. How could she have stooped so low? She really was going to hit me with the wine bottle? Wow! She wants to my grandson with such rotten manners? Over my dead body!Taking in a deep breath, I stood up and made my way into the mansion. I've baked myself enough; the rest of the sunrays has no vitamins.I reached for my phone from the dining table as I realised its been chiming with notifications for a while now. Assuming it was blog notifications, I ignored it. It is like generation only mind other peoples business for a living. There's always
WENDY’S POVI looked up at Listowel feigning tears, “You can hate me all you want. You can view me as the worst person to ever lived. But don’t forget this Lis. You’re going to be a father, Listowel. You can’t just turn your back on that.” I stated. He glared at me with for a while without uttering a word. His lips were tight, the veins on his forehead popping as if he was going to explode any time soon.He had returned back from downstairs and I could only guess things didn’t go well for him. Melissa must have pushed him away.Good. Now he knows how it feels to be rejected. Feigning pity, I moved my fingers seductively on his chest as I sobbed, “ Come to me. Let’s watch our baby grow together.”The grimace on his face deepened as soon as the words flew out of my lips. “Get your hands off me,” he growled. His low voice sounding more deadly than I anticipated. He looked like he was using all the energy in him to suppress the fury bubbling in his chest but I couldn’t care less. He
LISTOWEL’S POV My heart jumped to my throat as soon as I saw Melissa by the doorway. She was standing still, her face drained of blood as she locked eyes with me. My chest tightened and I could feel my heart aching badly as I saw her beautiful eyes turn red and then teary. No. She wasn’t supposed to hear this. Not now. Not when I was still unsure if what Wendy was saying was true. Pushing aside my desk, I sprang up to my feet and ran towards her. “Lisa….” I whispered, stretching my hands to hold her still. But before I could touch her, she took some steps back, her bloodshot eyes producing more tears than I could imagine. Her lips parted as she tried to talk but only a sorrowful sound came out. Covering her mouth, she shook her head slowly before turning to her heels. I ran after her but the elevator door closed before I could get in. When I managed to meet her downstairs, she had wiped the tears off her face, her expression hard and serious. Slowly, I approached her, prevent
WENDY’S POV Early the next morning, I returned to the mansion, the expression on my face that of anger. I was ready to scold my grandpa for his hypocrisy. But upon my return, he had already left for a meeting. He had given the keys to the maids and instructed them not to give it to me. One of the maids dared to challenge me when I demanded the key, infuriating me the more. And yeah, she was fired from working in our mansion that very day. I hate nobodies who tend to act pompous when they get little authority. With the pretense of delivering coffee, I made my way to the guest room. Luckily, Listowel was asleep so I thought to myself that I still had the chance to execute my plan. Quietly, I sneaked into the bed after undressing. My fingers trailed on the green veins lining up on his big muscles and arms. Oh, how I miss the old days! Doing this would have made him curl me up on his chest. A sudden turn he made jolted me out of my thoughts. Slowly, he sat up on t
WENDY’S POV My heart pounded rapidly in my chest as I made my way out of the restaurant. Luckily, the bodyguards my grandpa had recruited to watch after me were at the scene. They rushed in and seized the phones of the people around, threatening to sue any of them who would post it online. Sitting in my car, I let out a steady breath, trying to calm myself from the embarrassment from earlier. Gazing keenly into thin air, “Madam Gordon, harden your resolve because the next blow that's coming your way could end you paralyzed.” I gritted. Reaching for my phone, I scrolled through my contacts, looking for our family doctor’s contact. I hesitated for a split second before tapping on the green dial sign. This was the only way for me to get the upper hand. The call went through after the ring and Dr. Mensah’s voice came through the line. “Hi…” I breathe out. “It is Wendy…” “Wendy dear, how are you?” he politely asked, even though I hate it when he treats me like we ar
MELISSA’S POV The clock struck five and it was already time to close. I shut off my monitor and started arranging my desk, bringing the day's work to an end. I grabbed my bag and put in it some accessories before I stood up and adjusted my dress. From the glass windows, where I was checking myself, I could see a blue folder with a stack of documents inside. I let out a gentle sigh as I remembered what I told the owner the other day. I remember telling Listowel that I was gonna give it to a dispatch rider to deliver it to him but there here it was, still lying on my desk as if all the riders in town were on holiday. Well, I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to go give it to him in person. Yes. Yes. I know. I know that seeing him often was gonna disrupt my healing journey but….. I forced a chunk down my guts as I inched closer to pick it up. These documents seem to be important and it'll be thoughtless of me to leave them in the hands of a random rider. Wha
