(Sybil’s POV)

As we went up the elevator to my apartment, I told Alex all the details about what had happened to Charlie. He didn’t know Charlie that well, but they had gotten along the few times that they had seen each other. “Maybe now that you’re back home for good, I can take you to see him sometime,” I said, “I’m sure he’d like that.”

“That’s a good idea.” Alex smiled at me.

When we walked through my door, I remembered the bag that was in my hand. I didn’t want to be rude and abandon my guest, but at the same time, I wanted to get this over with. I knew that it wouldn’t take very long. “Alex,” I said, “just make yourself at home. I’ll be right back.”

“Are you hungry?” Alex asked. “I could make us something.”

“That would be great.” I briefly wondered what he was going to do. To my knowledge, he didn’t know how to cook. Being brought up in a house where his family had staff to do everything for them, he most likely had never learned even the most basic cooking skills. He probably h
