Chapter 32 The Patient

(Sybil’s POV)

Mark opened his office door and motioned for me to go in. He sat down at his desk, and I took a seat in the chair across from him. “Now,” he said, “what seems to be the problem?”

“I’m fine, Mark. I’m just really tired, that’s all,” I explained, “I’ve also been through a lot lately, what with Charlie’s illness and… other things.” I didn’t feel like I could talk to him about everything I had been through with John. I didn’t really know him well enough to confide in him, and besides, John was his friend. For all I knew, he wouldn’t believe me. Or maybe he would, but agree with the way that John was treating me and say that I deserved it, out of solidarity.

“That’s understandable.” He nodded. “I still think that I should schedule a physical for you. If there actually is something wrong with you, I know John will be more unbearable than he already is.”

“I don’t think that’s humanly possible,” I said, surprised that Mark thought that way about John.
