Liam I chuckle as I see Emily’s face turn pale after hearing that our kids hacked her. Our kids! The thought of it makes my heart warm and seeing how intelligent they are, I bet they will be ready to work for this company sooner or later. I knew I didn’t need any test to know they were mine but just to be sure, while she went home to check on Dad I went and took them from school during break and discreetly asked my doctor to do a DNA test. When the results came out, I was over the moon and forgot to ask them to keep a secret and now seeing how they call me “Dad”, I’d rather it stays this way. When I returned home, she was about to leave and I conered her to tell me the truth and when I threatened to do a DNA test, she wasn’t moved because she thought I didn’t know their new school until I mentioned the name and she went pale. I knew most of her fear was from the thought that I would take them away. I’d never do that, I’ll just make sure we all live as one big happy family. I kn
Emily My heart races as the nurse informs me that my kids are waiting for me at the hospital's reception. Thoughts swirl in my mind, wondering how they found out where I work. Hastily, I make my way down. My breath increases with each step I take as different scenarios hit my mind and what could have possibly happened for them to come here. When I reach the reception area, relief washes over me as I see Kayden and Hayden, their faces lighting up as they spot me. "Mummy over here!" they exclaim in unison, rushing into my arms. I kneel down to their height, a mix of emotions coursing through me. "What are you two doing here? How did you find me?" I ask, trying to keep my tone gentle when I’m actually about to lose my mind. Hayden looks at Kayden, they exchange looks before shrugging casually as though it’s the easiest thing to do. “Remember we placed a GPS on your phone? School finished early so we took a cab here to surprise you.” As much as I’m highly impressed, I’m very upset a
Emily “What?” He asks me confusion laced in his voice. “The day I was leaving, I called you Liam. Victoria picked up and told me you were tired after a wild night. So I’ll ask again, did you cheat on me?” I ask with my heart beating so fast I feel like it will pop out of my throat. “Walk with me.” He says as he stretches out his hand but I don’t take it. I walk ahead of him. “This direction baby.” He says and my cheeks flush from the realization that I just went the wrong direction. I meet his gaze as we enter the elevator and after a long pause of silence, it opens, and in front of me is the rooftop overlooking the city. “Wow,” I whisper more to myself than to him. “Come.” His deep voice makes me follow where his pointing and without knowing why I’m so cooperative lately, I take a sit next to him. “After that night when we had sex, I realized I had real feelings for you but I wasn’t so sure if they were really there or it was because I found out why you married me and I felt l
Emily The next day…… A call from the hospital director came unexpectedly, we’ve not met eye to eye since he visited my office, and knowing how these systems work, Dr. Rodriguez probably shared our last unpleasant conversation and now I don’t know what they have in mind. “Good morning my angels can I talk to you about something important?” I ask and they exchange looks before turning back to me. “Yes, Mummy. What is it?” Kayden asks as he takes a sit pulling his brother to sit next to him. “Well, I wanted to hear what you guys think about us moving in with Liam.” I begin. Knowing the load of questions that is about to hit me will be difficult to ignore. I have been avoiding addressing this for a month now and even though they kept calling him “Daddy,” I never acknowledged it but now I feel like I should clear their minds. I’m still deciding and trying to see where I can place Liam’s confession but right now, I’m scared. I don’t think I can handle being broken like I was ever
Liam “How are you feeling?” I ask Dad as I help him into the wheelchair. It surely hurts seeing a man you know as the strongest look this pale. I know It’s my turn to protect him and I won’t stop at nothing or let anyone try to drag him down. He turns his head and looks at me with a weak smile, "Getting better, son. Just need some time." I push the wheelchair gently, guiding him through the living room as Joane passes me a cup of hot water which he’s supposed to take. "You did well in there," I commend him, trying to lift his spirits. "Your wife... where is she?" he asks, as he looks around for her and I can’t help but shake my head. “She’s at work, Dad. She’s a doctor who has other patients that need her too.” I respond as I hold the bridge of my nose. He chuckles softly, "You chose well, Liam." Technically you did but I don’t think I want to spend another hour explaining how I knew about the contract. He finishes his meal and I stand to gently push his wheelchair back to his
Emily Setting up at the institute while observing other patients is going to prove an impossibility and today is only the first day. So I sent an email to the director to only allocate special cases for me to handle so that I can focus on reviving the research institute which is in a much worse situation than I thought. We are trying to outsource and see ways to replace strong medications with something environmentally friendly which will also help one’s life span but to do this, we need to test various options and that requires a lot of money. “Good morning Dr.Harper. My name is Lily Jacobs. Your medical assistant.” I turn and find a very beautiful gray-eyed blonde beauty staring back at me with a smile on her face. “Hello, Lily. It's a pleasure. Please take a seat and fill me in. What have you been working on so far and what are the challenges?” I smile and she nods as she takes a seat. She sighs heavily before speaking up, “Well, what version do you want? I don’t want you to
Emily “Your food is here. I’m so sorry about the delay.” The waitress says apologetically as they begin to put the different food trays on the table. It is a variety of food I’ve never seen before. We don’t even wait for them to finish serving, we all laugh at how impatient we are as we start getting some on our plates. As I pick up the cup to sip on my wine, I can feel Liam’s eyes on me and as if to confirm my suspicion, I turn to face him only to be met with his hot gaze. “Do you know each other with Mr. Lockhart?” Someone at the table asks and all eyes turn to face me. I shift uncomfortably as I avoid the eyes looking at me waiting for the answer. “Why do you ask?” “Well, he's not taken his eyes off you since he walked in and I’ve not taken my eyes off him so you know.” She winks and I laugh despite my fast-beating heart. “Are you okay Dr. Harper?” Lily asks and I nod. “Yes, I am. I just need to use the restroom. Please excuse me.” I smile as I stand up. I can still feel
Emily “No, I wasn't. Let’s go.” I pull her by her wrist even though I know she wants to use the bathroom. I’m so flushed and bothered and I can’t believe I let myself get so far. The most scary part is that I have no regrets and that worries me. “Dr. Harper. We were about to send a search party for you.” The team jokes when we reach the table and I laugh nervously. “I’m so sorry, I had to make some calls.” I lie and they seem to buy it because everyone goes back to chatting and when I look at the time, it’s 10 PM. My eyes pop out of my socket, “Oh now, I need to go. You should too, tomorrow we get to serious work.” I wave at everyone. “You got it Doc!” From the corner of my eye, I can see Liam start to bid farewell and that makes me almost sprint out the door. I double my step when I bump into someone, “I’m-” “Emily?” William says with shock evident in his eyes. “Hi William, I'm in a rush right now. Let’s talk later” I wave but he stops me by pulling my wrist. I frown as
