Three weeks Later.
Maybelline. “She’s so pretty,” “I can’t stop staring at her pictures, Now I see why he didn’t want to publicly reveal her,” “My Gosh, they’ll have such beautiful children” “What a happy and beautiful family, I’m happy for the both of them, see how supportive she is” “This is too cute” My colleagues gushed over whatever it is they’re looking at, they all gathered around Betsy’s table as they talked about it, I already knew what it was. I gently headed to my chair, pulled it out and took my seat in it. I most definitely could not walk out so I had no choice but to sit there and watch them drive me nuts talking about the people who ruined my life with so much admiration. “Ohh May, you’re around. Good Morning! Did you see Nora Tanner's new post this morning?! Aren’t they cute?!” Betsy asked as she stretched out in her chair to face me, I turned to look at her raising my head at her like I did not understand what she was talking about, “Wow, I’m just realizing you have the same surname as them, you must be proud to have the same surname as people so high and successful, I wish my surname was Tanner too, they’re not in our league though” she said dreamily with a soft laugh, I rolled my eyes at her obliviousness and turned back to face my table, I was this close to snatching the phone from her hands and smashing it against the wall. “It’s nothing to be proud about, it’s been three full weeks now, take a break, she’s really not all that!” I muttered loud enough for her and the others to hear not matching her energy or seeming interested with what she had to say, she furrowed her brows at me and gently shrunk back to her normal seating position and turned to the other staff. “What’s with the attitude,” she mumbled to herself, seemed like I bummed the room as all of them began to disperse and walk back to their tables one after the other. Better! The transparent glass doors pushed open and Katrina walked in, she had a small stack of spiral binded papers in her other hand. “Good Morning everyone!” She greeted as she walked further into the office. Without wasting any time, she distributed spiral binded papers to the five of us. “Those are list of what you should achieve in your period of Internship, go through them and let me know if you have questions,” she said to us, we all opened the papers and flipped through it one page after the other, “Miss Katrina, do we have to work the night shift?!” Betsy suddenly asked, I looked up from the paper, glanced briefly at Betsy before turning back to Katrina. “Yes, If the situation calls for it, but for the night duties you all will be on shift, the modalities on that will be communicated later,” she responded and everyone nodded in reply. “Alright if that’s all, I’ll get going now, always make sure you’re prepared, your work starts any moment from now,” she said and proceeded to walk out of our office. Just as soon as she got to the door, she turned around to look at me. “Also, The boss would like to see you in his office,” she said. I nodded respectfully with a small bow. I was already assigned to Tyler Graham, in fact I was going to have an interview with him by three today after his game. I looked down at the small alarm clock on my table, with a deep exhale I got up from my seat and headed towards Grayson’s office. **** “We don’t have to behave like we know each other at the office,” I muttered as I walked into his office. “You have an interview with Tyler today, Are you good?. Would you like me to postpone the interview till his next game?!” He asked, ignoring my initial statement. I exhaled deeply as I approached his table and folded my hands across my chest. “You’ve been doing that for the past seven days. I think it’s time I step up and do my job before people start talking,” I said to him, he nodded slowly at my words and pointed at the chair in front of him. “Have your seat, there’s something we should talk about,” I eyed the seat then slowly looked back up at him. Not seeing the need to argue, I pushed the chair backwards and took my seat in it. “For our other Franchise, the contract with our top distribution account ends this summer. Fred made a move to get the account and I made a counter back,” he began, “Where do I come in?! Tell me what to do,” he nodded firmly and gently dropped his laptop on his table. “We both have to come out and defend our proposals. I want you to come with me, Tomorrow.” He said , I momentarily stopped breathing as soon as he said that. I stared at him wordlessly in shock. That would mean I’d get to see Fred again and possibly Nora. It’s been just about three weeks and I definitely haven’t moved on at all. I wasn’t sure if I would actually “I mean, you’ve done these things well at T-Corp. I’m sure you’d be of help. These people have always pestered me to get a wife if I wanted to renew our contract. As my contracted wife you should come with me,” He said. “I’ll be by your side the whole time, but it’s fine if you do not want to come,” he added. I looked up at him immediately and shook my head slowly. “I can do it!” Hours Later. I stared ahead quietly as the media team tried to put things together, I stood firm, microphone in hand. It was my first major interview, and for very obvious reasons I wasn’t nervous, I had prepared for this my whole life. Tyler Graham stood beside me also as he waited for the media team. “Ready?!” They finally asked, I matted my lips and nodded firmly in reply. “One, two, go!” They counted me in and I turned to Tyler with a wide smile. "First of all, congratulations on the win. A thrilling 4-1 victory against the Rivals FC. You managed to score three goals, bringing your season tally to an impressive 25 goals in just 15 games. How does it feel to be leading your team to such success?” He grinned, wiping the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand before resting both hands on his hips. “Thank you, it feels incredible. The team’s been working hard, and tonight we really showed what we’re capable of. We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we stuck to the plan, and it paid off.” I nodded, keeping my tone professional but enthusiastic. “You’ve been known for your sharp tactical awareness, and tonight was no different. Now, your team is sitting comfortably at the top of the league table with 38 points. What do you think the key has been to maintaining such a consistent form this season?” He took a breath, his expression turning more thoughtful. "Honestly, it's been all about the team chemistry. We trust each other on and off the pitch, and that makes all the difference. "And lastly, Tyler, with all the success you've had so far in this season, what’s next for you? Any big goals you’re setting your sights on?" I asked, his smile softened, but his eyes gleamed with determination. “I want to win more—more games, more championships. But for now, I’m going to enjoy this win, take it one step at a time, and keep pushing myself to be the best." He said, I nodded, lowering the microphone and offering my hand. "Thank you, Tyler. Best of luck for the rest of the season." He shook my hand, and flashed me a wide smile in return. “Cut!” The media team yelled and I squeezed my hands out of his immediately. “You’re new here?! Haven’t seen you before?!” He asked me. “Yes. Maybelline Russet, I’ll be handing your interview going forward.” I replied to him with a small bow. He curled his lips downwards and nodded slowly. “Hmm. You did well, well done!” He said to me and with that he turned around and walked away. “Good job May, you looked just like a professional.” A member of the media team said to me as soon as I walked up to them to drop the microphones. “Thank you,” I whispered in reply. Everything that has happened to me in the last few weeks has totally numbed my feelings, and honestly I wasn’t interested. I didn’t feel the adrenaline rush I thought I would feel on my first interview. I was just there. Later that day. 7:00pm. “Emmett, you’re close to Fred right. You can’t tell me you don’t know about these things” I mumbled as I closed my journal, got up from behind the reading table in a corner in my room and walked to my bed, I took my seat by the edge and folded my free hands across my chest. Emmett is Fred’s personal assistant and the closest thing to a friend that Fred has, Apparently Fred doesn’t consider him much of a close friend, seeing that Emmett knew absolutely nothing about his relationship with Nora and about most things with Fred. I was able to speak to Emmett, there wasn’t any point hiding, and he was willing to help me with whatever I needed. I’ve known him for a while and I trust him. “I know, Fred is unpredictable. These things take time but I’m on it. If you insist Fred is doing dirty business, I’ll thoroughly look into it,” he said. I exhaled deeply and nodded slowly. “Thank you,” I whispered and with that I removed the phone from my ear and ended the call. I glanced towards the door. A few minutes earlier, Elena had come up to tell me that dinner was ready. With another sigh, I got up to my feet, slid into my flip flops, slipped my phone in my back pocket and headed downstairs. Grayson was already there, he had begun eating already, I muttered greetings to him and simply pulled out a chair for myself and took my seat. Immediately I took my seat, Elena came out and dished my food. Steak with Baked Potato and Green Beans. “Thank you,” I murmured to her. she replied to me with a small nod and a wide smile before walking back into the kitchen, without wasting any time I began to eat, picking on my food slowly. “Don’t you think it’s time you tell me your motive?!” I suddenly said, I watched as Grayson paused mid action, he slowly returned his fork back to his plate and dropped it carefully. He picked up his glass of water and took a seat. “I mean, you must have a reason for crashing your own wedding. For lying that we have something together when we clearly don’t.” “You’re unusually nice to me. This isn’t how it usually plays out. Why are you nice to me?! Have we met before?! Why me out of every lady at the party?! If you’ve never met me before, how did you know that I was pregnant?. Now that we’ve come to an agreement, don’t you think it’s only right that you tell me your motives” I asked, turning to him and locking eyes with him. He cleared his throat gently and pushed his plates further into the table. “I’d rather not have this conversation.” He simply uttered and with that, he pushed his chair backwards and got up to his feet. “Goodnight,” he muttered and walked away. I stared at him as he disappeared through the steps. Even you Grayson, who are you?!Maybelline. Next Day 12:00am. Grayson stood at the head of the table, his presence commanding the attention of everyone in the room. He spoke with the ease of someone who knew exactly what to say and how to say it. His tone was persuasive but never desperate, confident without crossing into arrogance. I stared wordlessly, doing everything to not lock gaze with either Nora or Fred, even by mistake. But I couldn’t deny the tension sitting heavy in my chest, the weight of what—or rather who—was sitting just across the table. Fred. Nora sat beside him, her smug smile a constant reminder of the betrayal I hadn’t fully healed from. The sight of them together was like salt in a wound that never quite closed.“I appreciate both parties’ proposals,” Mr. Collins finally said as soon as Grayson was done, his voice neutral, professional. “You’ve both presented strong cases. I’ll need some time to review everything before making a decision. You’ll hear from me soon.”Grayson extended his hand
Maybelline.8:30pm …“Welcome Ma’am, ““Dinner is ready,” Elena said to me as I walked into the house, I flashed her a small smile and nodded in reply.“You can set the table, I’ll be down soon” I said to her, she nodded immediately and walked away, I gently took my gaze off her and began to walk upstairs. Honestly, even if my baby bump hadn’t really grown, I missed the feeling of having a tiny human growing inside me. My heart broke at the thought of my child, I was extremely excited when I found out I was pregnant, but then life happened and it is what it is. But one thing I won’t take lightly, is getting back at the people who ruined my life to this point. ****“What do you mean the viewership ratings are going down?!” I heard Grayson say over the phone, he wasn’t yelling, but his voice was stiff and obviously very upset. “Katrina, the update I’m asking about is the streaming platform we are about to launch, apparently we have more issues on ground,” I paused by the staircase, u
Maybelline.Next day. 6:45am“Are you fine?!” I heard Grayson’s voice as I walked down the staircase, I smiled tightly at him, I might have been a little bit dramatic last night. I nodded awkwardly as my grip on my bag tightened. “I’m okay, thank you” I murmured, he walked up to me and stretched out a cup of coffee to me. I took it from him and murmured a thank you, still feeling a little bit shy from how I was with him yesterday. I raised the cup to my lips and downed its whole content in one go, I stepped forward and dropped the cup on the table with a soft thud. “I should get to work now,” I said and rushed to the door without waiting for his reply. I stepped out of the house and the cold morning breeze hit my face, I slowly took it in and exhaled deeply. A small smile spread across my face. “You are a fun girl, May. Nobody should take that from you! You deserve nothing short of happiness. You shouldn’t get to live the rest of your life sad,” I muttered to myself, patting my sho
Maybelline. Back at the office. Betsy pushed the door to the office and we both walked in laughing at something she said earlier.“People are working here, lower your voice or laugh outside!” Loretta Suddenly said, our laughter paused almost immediately, we turned to face each other and we bursted out laughing again. Not like it was on purpose though, we couldn’t just help it.She grumbled lowly, contemptuously rolling her eyes at us. I have always noticed an attitude from her. It has been one month, at first I thought she was probably having a rough day but as time went on I realized it wasn’t a rough day at all.“Always wanting to talk over people like you’re better than us, nobody should piss me off in this office,” Betsy hissed loud enough for her to hear, as she pulled her seat backwards and dropped on it, I stretched out to her and tapped her laps, “What?!” She muttered turning to me, I gently shook my head at her,“It’s not worth it,” I whispered. She huffed and hissed angri
Maybelline. “Let me,” Grayson said as he pushed his chair backwards and packed up the plates for me. “You don’t have to,” I whispered, finding it awkward that Grayson was packing up our used plate for me. Aside from the fact that he was my boss, where I come from men don’t do these kinds of things. I actually just found it weird.“I want to,” he replied as he stacked up all the plates, I carried the cup also and we headed to the kitchen. “I’m doing the dishes, there’s no need to argue with me,” I said immediately we entered the kitchen, I watched as his lips stretched into a small smile and he placed the plates in the sink.He stepped backwards a little bit as he rested on the kitchen counter and folded his hands across his chest, crossing his legs in front of him.“This is so weird,” I finally said as I began washing.“Staying up alone can be very tiring,” he said and I nodded slowly at his words.“Well since you’re staying with me, I might as well tell you, the photocopier in our
Maybelline. 11:00pm. “If we hadn’t gotten the account, Nash and Ko would really have suffered the loss. It’s our top account,” Grayson said to me. We had dinner already hours ago and some how we ended up sitting in the balcony together. We sat side by side, with one duvet over both our legs. We had a tray with wine on a small table in front of us.“But I’m still curious though, Gym equipment parts and a broadcasting company, that’s a weird combination,” I said, he gently raised his cup to his lips and took a sip of his wine.“In simple words, Nash Tech is my father’s Company. While Nash and Ko is my company,”“We have different interests, I was adamant about mine, I wasn’t going to give up. But apparently, I also had to take over my father’s business after his death,” “Ohh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize that” I apologized immediately, he flashed me a small smile and shook his head at me. “Ohh, you don’t have to be. It’s been a few years now,” “What about your mom?” I asked.“Let’
7:45pm “I’m sorry,”“I lost track of time at Betsy’s” I said to Grayson as soon as I walked into the house. He was seated on the three-seater, with his laptop, obviously engrossed with work. Immediately I spoke, he looked up at me and shook his head. “No need to apologize,”“It’s not like you’re doing anything for me at home,” he said, I took my lips into my mouth and nodded firmly. Another “Grayson is not Fred” Moment. Fred used to request for tangible reasons why I would come back home later than six in the evening. If my reason wasn’t valid enough based on their parameters, I would get a backlash of hurtful words from his mother and sisters. Tough times man.“I ordered food, your share is in the microwave,” he added, and I nodded slowly, he’s so gentlemanly. Every blog portraying him as cold definitely has no idea who he really is. “Thank you, thank you for earlier too,” I said, he passed me a tight lipped smile and turned back to his laptop.“Oh, this came in for you earlier,”
Maybelline.Next day. My eyes narrowed in confusion at the aroma drifting from the kitchen. Did Elena come back and decide to surprise me?! The chance of that happening was unlikely, so who then was in the kitchen. Only Grayson and I lived in this house and from what I could gather, he is a terrible cook.I gently walked up to the kitchen and peeped inside, it really was Grayson, he was standing in front of the cooker, his phone was on a table top tripod at a safe distance from him, he glanced at it occasionally before turning back to what he was cooking. He seemed to be watching an online tutorial on how to cook. “What are you doing,” I finally asked with a small chuckle as I walked into the kitchen. He turned towards me immediately and flashed me a small awkward smile. He reached out to his phone, clicked pause and turned off the cooker. He wiped his hands dry and turned to me,“How are you this morning?!” He asked, I nodded slowly staring at him speechlessly.“I just knew you we
MaybellineNext day. Monday 8:30 am.“She’s the one,”“This is the first time I’m actually seeing her at the office”“Yeah, she looks so innocent behind would have known,”The moment I stepped into the office building, I sensed something was off. Conversations died down, replaced by hushed murmurs and sidelong glances. I brushed it off, it was probably just in my head, but as I walked further, the stares intensified, growing more obvious, more uncomfortable.I fumbled in my bag, pulled out my employee card, signed in, and headed toward the elevator. When the doors slid open, I stepped in—and everyone else instinctively shifted away, pressing against the walls. The silence was unsettling, and I could feel each and everyone of their gazes on me. When the elevator finally reached my floor, I stepped out, heart racing. What’s going on?I pushed open the door to my office. Betsy was already at her desk, I could not see her face but her posture looked stiff, her eyes darting up to meet min
Maybelline. Next Morning, Sunday. 7:00am.The morning light filtered softly through the curtains as I blinked awake, stretching out in the bed, only to realize Grayson was no longer beside me. I sat up, rubbing my eyes, and found him standing by the dresser, already dressed in a sharp suit, adjusting his tie in the mirror. He noticed me watching him, and a soft smile crossed his face. "Good morning, Beautiful." I managed a drowsy smile, pulling the covers around me as I took in the sight of him. "Already up and dressed? It’s early Sunday morning," I grumbled. He chuckled, crossing over to the bed and leaning down to press a gentle kiss to my forehead. "I’d love to stay . There’s a client I have to meet today, he’s leaving town today. I might be back late"A pang of disappointment mixed with a hint of pride tugged at me. "How about breakfast, at least?" I asked, reaching out to touch his hand. He took my hand, squeezing it gently. "I wish I could, but I’ll grab something on the w
MaybellineSaturday, 8:30 AM“Since Thursday, this guy has been pounding on my door, trying to get me to talk to him!” Betsy’s voice crackled through my phone, her frustration evident.“If someone says they’re not interested, shouldn’t you just leave them alone?” she muttered irritably. I covered the pot on the stove and turned to glance at my phone, placed on a small tabletop tripod in the mini-dining area. This was our Saturday ritual—if I wasn’t at Betsy’s place, we’d spend almost the whole day on video, catching up on everything and nothing. Like we didn’t see each other throughout the week.Through the camera, I watched her unpack groceries, the familiar ease of her movements making me smile. She was fuming.“Betsy, maybe you should at least hear him out?” I suggested gently. “He might have realized his mistakes, and letting him apologize could bring closure. Maybe then he’d leave you alone.” She paused, her gaze narrowing playfully as she turned to the camera. “Whose side are
MaybellineNext day, Friday. 1:30pm"What a ride that was!" I exclaimed excitedly with a bright smile. "I don’t know about you, but I’ve laughed, and I’ve learned more about love from our incredible couple than I ever thought possible."“A round of applause to our beautiful couple, Luna and Novan Maxwell” I paused, the audience’s applause took over. I glanced at the couple and they were all smiles as they waved at the audience. They looked so good together and I could not help but admire how well they knew each other and how very in sync they are.“Tonight’s show was all about reminding ourselves of the power of connection—of the joy, the laughter, and, yes, sometimes the tears that love brings to our lives.” I continued as the applause subsided.“And none of it would be possible without each of you, tuning in week after week, sharing in these stories, and cheering our guests on." The room erupted in cheers and applause again. My smile softened as I looked up directly into the camera
Meanwhile,Fred.“How about my wife?!” I asked the nurse as she changed my drip. They insisted I stay in the hospital two days to rest properly even after I said I was fine. “I have no idea sir. She left as soon as she dropped you,” she replied, I nodded thoughtfully in reply and she quietly kept at what she was doing.“How long does it take for the belly bump of a pregnant woman to be very visible,” I suddenly asked, she paused and slowly looked down at me. “It’s different for different body types.”“Some women's baby bumps start to become visible around three months, some other women probably five or six months. So I can’t really say,” she replied and I nodded slowly. It’s only been one month and probably three weeks since Maybelline left. She’s obviously still carrying my child. I need to see her as soon as possible.“Why are you suddenly asking questions about pregnancy!” I slowly looked up at the door to see Nora standing there. She held her bag on her elbow with her hands fold
Later that Evening.6:30 pmMaybelline. I wiped my hands dry with the napkin as I turned to the mini dinning in the kitchen and picked up my phone. It was a call from Tyler. “Tyler!” I called out immediately and I answered the call.“I’m so sorry, I should have called you but I’ve been so busy with work I barely had time,” I said all at once.“It’s very fine. There’s no need to apologize, I knew you’d be very busy, that’s why I held off on calling too” he said, I slowly moved closer to a stool by the dinning and took my seat on it. “Yeah, So, what’s the update?! How did it go?!” I asked him. “If you’d be free tonight, let’s meet and talk?!” He asked, I rubbed the back of my head, it wouldn’t have been an issue before but now that Grayson and I are together, I definitely can’t just leave the house without first explaining. “Huhhh— I — I’m —““Love! I’m home!”“Babe!” I heard Grayson yell all the way from the entrance.“Babe?!” Tyler asked immediately.“Huhh—““Babe!” I heard Grayso
Maybelline I felt the lightest, feathery kiss on my forehead, and a slow warmth spread through me as I stirred awake. My eyes fluttered open to find myself wrapped in Grayson’s arms, his embrace tender and protective, and I couldn’t help but smile at the comfort of being held by him all night. I only came in to kiss him goodnight yesterday’s night, after that he insisted that he wanted me to sleep by his side. I wanted it too, so he didn’t have to persuade me for too long. Here we are."Good morning, my sunshine," he murmured, his voice deep and husky from sleep. His eyes sparkled as he looked down at me, and I reached up, my fingers tracing slow, loving patterns along his jaw, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath my touch."I could get used to waking up like this," I whispered, and he chuckled softly, his hand moving to cradle the back of my head as he threaded his fingers through my hair with care.“Then move in with me,” he said, his voice a quiet, earnest plea that sent butter
Grayson. “Since when?!”“Why didn’t you tell us!” Becky exclaimed immediately. I told her that Maybelline and I are dating already. We were on video call, my phone was on a table top tripod with my laptop beside it.“Well, I was going to. But there was never a perfect time,” I said to her, her lips stretched into a smile. “Finally. I’m happy for you ” she giggled and I nodded slowly. “I’m happy too,” suddenly the screen splitted into two and Katrina’s Video appeared. “What are the both of you discussing,” Katrina said as she raised a piece of pancake and bit into it. “We’re discussing how to sell you off. Since you no longer know how to keep quiet,” I replied immediately, the corner of her lips raised in a small sneer as she bit into her pancake again and chewed slowly. “Guys, I have exciting news for you!”“What is it?! You met someone new?!” I replied not matching her energy, I definitely knew that was what she was on to, her eyes slowly rolled to me and she glared at me.“I
Maybelline. After Work. “When you said something nice, I didn’t think that it’d be this — Nice” Grayson said after he pulled out my chair and rounded the table to sit. He carefully sat like the chair would break under his full weight. I chuckled lightly at this.“I know this is not what you’re used to, but their food is good and not expensive” I said to him and he nodded slowly in reply. “If you say so,” he replied, shortly after, the owner of the shop walked up to us. Her eyes lit up immediately when she saw me.“Belline,” she called, my lips stretched into a wide smile as I got up to my feet and pulled her into a small hug.“It’s been ages. I hope you’re good!” She said as we disengaged and I nodded in reply, my lips still stretched into a wide smile. She slowly turned to look at Grayson and then backed up at me.“You came with someone today, who is he?!” She asked.“He’s the Pre …” My gaze slowly flickered to Grayson, he sighed slowly and gently looked away from me.“He’s my boy
