The Duty (1)

The sky is completely clear. This brings back memories of dad and the words he used to say with a smile, always looking at the same sky. When I opened my eyes, I came back to the little ruined house. Turning to my right, I could see Corporal Jones.

"Lord, in these moments of anguish, I want it to be you who acts in my life..." Jones said as he crouched down. Apparently, he was crying. I couldn't blame him, we had been ambushed, and it separated us from the platoon. We were lucky to find shelter from enemy fire.

It became more and more difficult for me to breathe. I could feel my chest tighten. I closed my eyes for a moment.

I visualize the same treehouse, next to mom and dad. "Richard" was all I needed to remember.

"On the other hand, when you are the one who acts in my life, everything turns out much better," I said as I got up from the sand-covered wooden planks, and I put a hand on Jones's shoulder. I gave my best smile and left the house. I remembered
