"No, you cannot stay. You have to go," I said firmly, grasping the doorknob. I struggled with it as if I somehow forgot how a doorknob worked all together.
"I won't leave this room unless you leave with me," he declared.
"You have to go," I insisted, gazing into his mesmerizing eyes.
He kissed me once more, this time with a greater intensity. My body couldn't resist and responded eagerly to his kiss. Our lips moved in perfect harmony, as his tongue playfully traced my lower lip and delved into my mouth. Our tongues intertwined in a passionate dance, creating the most exquisite kiss I have ever experienced in my entire existence. I melted into his embrace as he held me in his arms.
I found myself at a loss for words as he picked me up and carried me to the couch in the room. At that moment, I became acutely aware of the situation and pushed myself away from him, standing up. "I can't. I simply can't go through with this." I bolted for the door and ran out as fast as I possibly could. He called out after me, but I didn't stop. I could feel my heart racing as I dashed down the hallway, trying to put as much distance between us as possible.
I entered the girls dressing room, bumping into Katherine.
“Woah, are you okay?” She asked me, seemingly genuinely concerned. “Oh, your lipstick is smeared. Did he touch you?” Her voice sounded angry.
“Yes, but it’s okay. I just need a moment please. I am fine. Struggling inside, but I am fine.” I told her, looking up at her in the reflection of the mirror.
“Okay. If you need anything, let me know.” She told me and I watched her turn around, leaving the room.
Seated in my chair, I wrapped the robe tightly around me, attempting to make sense of what had transpired. I have never been the kind of woman to casually kiss strangers. Yes, I am a dancer, and I do use my appearance to earn a living, but the pay is quite substantial. While the public might perceive me as promiscuous, I am anything but that. As I pondered over my actions, a rush of guilt washed over me, along with a wave of confusion. How did I let myself succumb to such impulsiveness, breaking the very principles I held dear?
He was a wolf, the Alpha at that. He was the leader from the pack that murdered my mother and my father. I suddenly felt so dirty and just completely disgusted with myself. I picked up my clothes and changed into them. I made my way to Philips office with my bags in my hand.
I took a breath and knocked on the door. Philip's commanding voice resonated, "Enter."
I peeked through the door, but never crossed the threshold of his office. “I am not feeling well, I may have what Kai had after all.”
“We got it covered. Good job tonight. Alpha Maximus would like to speak with you before you leave though. He is in the champagne room. "Emberleigh, take the time to recover and start feeling better."
With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to the gentleman, my smile radiant as I departed the room, my bags in tow. Upon entering the Champagne room, I purposely left the door slightly ajar, creating an unspoken invitation. As our gaze met in the softly lit space, I confidently inquired, "You wished to speak with me?"
Intrigued, he questioned, "Why do you resist this?"
Taking a deep breath, I responded, "Because you are not just any ordinary wolf, but the Alpha of the most distinguished and formidable pack in our region. I, on the other hand, am a mere human. It seems like an impossible connection to establish." I stood there, allowing the weight of my words to hang in the air, the anticipation growing.
His silence spoke volumes as he remained silent. I decisively pivoted away from him and calmly asserted, "I genuinely desire the best for you. Nevertheless, I must insist that you maintain your distance from me. "Goodnight, Maximus."
"Goodnight, Crystal." His voice was flat, almost sad sounding and I would never admit to anyone but it broke my heart.
I paused for a moment, turning to look at him. I wanted to tell him that was just my stage name. I wanted to tell him that I wanted him to follow me. I wanted to tell him that a part of me truly wanted to be by his side. I wanted to tell him my reasons why I was resisting him. Instead, I just gave a small smile and walked out the door.
I walked over to my BMW and when I opened the door I surprised to see two huge duffle bags that were full. I opened one of them and found that it was full of money. Not just any type of money, but large bills. My mouth dropped open at the amount of money inside. On top of the other duffle bag was a handwritten note.
“Crystal,
I understand that you may have reservations about revealing your true name to me, and I completely respect that. However, I want you to know that I remain open to the idea, and I'm patient. No matter the distance between us, I want to emphasize that I am always here for you whenever you feel ready to disclose your real name. As your mate, my dedication is unwavering, and I am fully devoted to supporting you. Please accept this financial assistance as a testament to my sincerity. I assure you that my commitment is genuine. I will be here for you and I will protect you.
Alpha Maximus.”
I clutched the note in my hands, reading it over and over. I couldn't wrap my head around it. I couldn't come to terms with it. When I stepped out of my vehicle, there he stood. I peered up at him, my brows furrowed. “Maximus,” I muttered under my breath, trying to make sense of the situation. He looked at me with a determined expression, and I could feel the weight of his promise in his eyes. Without uttering a single word, Maximus extended his hand towards me. Curiosity mingled with apprehension as I wanted to reach out, and accept his unspoken invitation.
Apart of me wanted to take his hand and go with him. The other part of me screamed to get away from him, torn between desire and caution.
With conflicted emotions swirling within me, I hesitated for a moment, uncertain of the consequences that lay on either path. But the magnetic pull of Maximus' presence was undeniable, overpowering my doubts and tempting me to embrace the unknown. And so, with trembling hands and a racing heart, I made my decision, intertwining my fingers with his, ready to embark on a journey that would challenge every fiber of my being. But before I could accept him, we needed to address the lingering questions from our shared past. The mystery surrounding my parents' fate so many years ago demanded resolution.
“We need to discuss some important matters first. If you truly possess the intellect you claim, you will figure out how to locate me.” I told him. Leaving him standing there, I got into my car, pushed the start button, and drove away from the parking lot. The sound of the engine drowned out any lingering doubt in my mind. As I navigated through the city streets, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning.
Upon my arrival home, it was past midnight. I wasn't actually sick; it was just an excuse to catch my breath. His presence made me feel stifled. I sat in my car in the enclosed garage, gazing at the two duffle bags filled with money. I glanced at the note he had written me and gave it another thorough read. I let out a long and annoyed sigh and got out of my car, taking the bags with me, thankful I could finally breathe again. “I can not accept this.” I said to myself as I opened the door to my home. I stepped inside and shut the door behind me when I flipped the lights on. His voice filled my ears."You are under no obligation to accept the money, but I hope you will accept me. Come with me, Emberleigh," Maximus' voice whispered softly in my ears.I jumped and let out a small scream. “What are you doing here?”He smirked, “You didn’t think that I wouldn’t have found out who you are? It didn’t take much to convince your boss to give me your information. A little money thrown his way,
I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as I sat in the car, wondering where he was taking me. The landscape outside the window blurred past as we drove deeper into the unknown. My heart raced with anticipation, the unknown path ahead casting a shadow of uncertainty over my thoughts. Questions flooded my mind: What was his intention? Was this a harmless adventure or a treacherous journey? Nevertheless, curiosity overpowered my fear, urging me to stay vigilant and embrace whatever lay ahead."Is everything alright?" His voice immediately caught my attention. I turned to look at him, and he gave me a strangely comforting smile. "Yeah, I'm feeling quite nervous. A mere human walking into a den of wolves," I attempted to joke.We have no intention of causing harm to any human beings whatsoever. It is one of our top laws. The unfortunate death of your parents should never have occurred," he said to me. I stared at him, trying to process his words. The grief and anger inside me threate
I found myself in an unfamiliar room, adorned with peculiar decor and devoid of any personal belongings. A surge of unease washed over me as I tried to make sense of how I had arrived in this strange place. Sitting up in the bed, I shook off the cozy blanket. Outside the door, I could hear faint voices growing louder. Compelled by curiosity, I rose from the bed and began to approach the door, when suddenly, it swung open. "Good morning! Are you feeling hungry?" Maximus greeted me with a warm smile. "I could use something to eat. By the way, where am I?" I asked, glancing around the room once more. “You are currently in one of the guest bedrooms at my Packhouse. I tried to wake you up, but when you didn't respond, I brought you here to make sure you could rest. I hope that's okay with you?” He asked me. "Oh, that's alright. I simply felt a bit disoriented when I woke up. It won't cause any problems, will it? My presence here, I mean?" I settled into the chair, gracefully sitting do
“It’s me!” I finally declared, my voice shattering the silence. It was evident that Maximus intended to shield me from her, a gesture of protection. However, I held no fear towards her, not even the slightest. Despite knowing that in one swift motion she could end my life, I felt strangely invincible. With my declaration, a defiant smirk emerged on her face. It was as if she found my fearlessness amusing, like a challenge that ignited the fire within her eyes. Her smirk widened into a wicked grin, revealing a glimpse of the darkness that lay within her. She stepped closer, her every movement dripping with both grace and menace, ready to test the limits of my audacity. “You stupid little human slut. I can see why he didn’t throw you directly in the trash and reject you, you…” Tiffany was cut off by Maximus. “That is enough! Shut up, now!” He said through gritted teeth as he stood, putting himself between the two of us. Tiffany blinked as she looked at Maximus. “Maxie, are you ser
From across the desk, my gaze fixated on him, utterly enchanted by his mere presence. His hair, dark and meticulously groomed, effortlessly maintained its impeccable style even as his hands gracefully swept through it. With a straight and impeccably sculpted nose, he could effortlessly incite envy among Hollywood's most revered plastic surgeons. And those lips, so plump and tantalizingly irresistible. His jawline, a marvelous creation of intersecting angles, was adorned with a finely crafted stubble that created an alluring contrast. Yet, it was his hazel eyes that truly ensnared me. They possessed an enigmatic quality, transitioning effortlessly between shades of green and blue, mirroring the ever-changing depths of his emotions. Earlier, when Tiffany had upset him, they transformed into a deep green, unveiling his profound anger. Yet now, as he cast upon me a gentler gaze, they transformed into a serene shade of blue, briefly offering a glimpse into his vulnerable soul. I observe
“So what did you decide?” He asked me. "I accept you. I accept this. All of this. I don’t quite understand it all of course, but I will one day." I couldn’t even finish the small speech I had prepared because Maximus had lifted me up into his arms and kissed me. It felt like time had stopped as our lips met, and I lost myself in the taste of his kiss. All my doubts and uncertainties melted away, replaced by a sense of pure acceptance and love. The kiss we shared was unlike any other. It was the kiss that sealed our fate as a couple, the kiss that sparked the beginning of our endless adventure, the kiss that officially bound us together as a single entity. It was a brief moment that felt like an eternity, an exchange of emotions that spoke volumes without a single word. As our lips parted, I knew that nothing would ever be the same again. As he lowered me down to stand on my own two feet I couldn’t help but to smile. All of my doubts about everything went away. As he leaned down, h
As the door swung open, I was immediately struck by the modernity of the room. Stepping inside, I couldn't help but take in my new surroundings. It was definitely a stark contrast from the guest room. The sleek lines of the furniture and the minimalist decor made the space feel simultaneously spacious and cozy. The large windows allowed natural light to flood the room, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. "Emberleigh, I want you to feel completely at home here," Maximus said softly as I scanned the room."Okay," I replied, turning to look at him. He had repositioned himself and was now sitting on a couch in the room."Feel free to infuse your personal touch into this room. If you feel the urge to strip it down and create something entirely new, know that I fully endorse your decision," he gestured expansively, casting a supportive glance at the room's interior.Perhaps my unease was palpable, and in some sense, it was justified. I didn't want to erase all traces of what had exist
While lying in the vast bed all alone, I was surprised to realize that Maximus wasn't going to sleep with me. I listened to his gentle breathing from across the room and finally closed my eyes. The moment I shut my eyes, the persistent image of how I would look in my wolf form consumed my thoughts. I can still vividly recall the appearance of the wolves from when I was about ten years old and accompanied my family on a camping trip. I couldn't shake the curiosity about whether my wolf form would be diminutive or if I would appear as a regular-sized wolf. As I was thinking about my wolf, my thoughts soon drifted into my sleep and then led into my dreams. My dream was so very vivid. It was like I could actually smell the world around me. My wolf was running fast through the forest. The small tree branches were snapping in half as we barreled through them. As we reached a clearing, the intoxicating fragrance of the blooming wildflowers completely filled my senses. Stepping into the c
