Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Mel finished what she was doing and turned towards Caleb and me. I couldn’t read the expression on her face. In fact, I barely even recognized her anymore. It was as if she were a stranger to me.

“I have to admit, I am a bit surprised at the results today.” Mel began, her voice sounding bleak.

“What is it?” I asked while pushing off the bed to stand next to it.

I knew I was probably a bit more eager than I should be, but the wait was killing me. I have spent so much time stressing over the well-being of my child, that I was starting to feel like I was going to burst if she didn’t tell me something. I couldn’t help but think she was intentionally keeping me in the dark.
