Chapter 2

Vanessa's POV đź’«

I stared at the divorce papers again this time with pain all written on my face,  the thought of Mrs. Patricia, Alexander's mother, could also support him on  this baffles me. My heart was heavy with sorrow, the weight of Alexander's rejection crushing me hardly.

Alexander's words still echoed in my mind, each syllable a dagger to my soul leaving nothing but pain.

"You're not worthy of being my mate...because you're not fully werewolf and will never be!"

The sting of his rejection lingered, leaving a festering wound that refused to heal in my heart each time I proceeded his words!

But I refused to give up, or accept such when it was clear our installation as the Alpha and Luna will be tomorrow.

I wouldn't sign those papers, not me Vanessa doing this. I won't!

Not yet.

Not until I understood why he decided to serve me this paper with just a word he hated me.

Why did he suddenly change, someone who had always loved and cherished me a lot now hates me? It can't be!

Why did he throw the divorce paper at me to sign? Was it a sign of rejecting me tomorrow? Or has he been cheating on me all this while?

What had I done wrong? Could I have done something unknowingly which triggers his emotions into taking these steps.

Was it my fault I couldn't shift to my wolf form, could I say I was cursed by the moon goddess?” All these questions proceed in my head as I shock my gaze around the meal served.

I crumpled the papers, determination burning within me, I will not sign the paper.

I wouldn't make it easy for him.

I rose from the chair, resolve etched on my face.

I had to escape from the palace so as not to be seen again. I can't stand the shame of being rejected after so many years of togetherness.

Alexander's grasp tonight was the perfect opportunity for me to do that.

The moon was full as it signifies the long awaited  Moon Ball celebration and everyone was outside jubilating and dancing while the young ones were singing and playing. This is the best time to escape as it would distract everyone from noticing my disappearance.

The thought of facing Alexander tomorrow, of being rejected in front of the entire pack, was unbearable to me and I can't stand it, not for once will I.

I slipped out of the room, silent as a ghost, my heart pounding in my chest while I prayed endlessly not to be caught.

Fear and adrenaline fueled each of my steps taken to escape.

I navigated the labyrinthine corridors, avoiding guards and servants from seeing me,as silent as a mouse.

As I reached the gate, a hand clamped on my shoulder making me turn to view whom it was.

"Miss Vanessa, stop!" The guard's voice came up.

I spun around with hatred on my face, those Guards!

Their faces are impassive,Unyielding as they approach me.

"You can't leave, Princess," one guard said, his voice firm and cool.

I struggled, but they held firm, pleading I go in back with them.

On refusing I was dragged back to the palace.

Alexander's face twisted in anger, his eyes blazing with fury. As he was me I was dragged to where he was and after the guard explained to him what happened .

"You foolish girl," he spat. "You think you can escape me? Without signing those documents?” He asked, his eyes blazing with anger.

I stood tall with my eyes piercing through him while I breathed hard. I definitely pulled my arms off the guards.

"I won't sign those papers, because you have not given me any reason to sign them" I declared, my voice shaking with conviction.

Alexander's eyes flashed with a wicked smile.

"Fine," he growled. "You'll stay caged until tomorrow." He spoke to me.

My heart sank.

Caged?

What did he mean, I thought only captives are kept in the cage. I mean why will he want to cage me?

Before I could say any word the guards dragged me to a hidden chamber deep within the palace.

A cell in the palace which was built with iron bars. With no escape for me.

I slammed against the bars as the guards dragged me in and locked it up.

"Alexander, don't do this!" I screamed, desperation clawing at my throat while tears slipped down my eyes.

He turned his back to me.

"Tomorrow, you'll sign those papers, and I have a huge surprise waiting for you, you can't wait to see it," he said, his voice cold, detached. "And our bond will be broken." He added with a huge smile on his face.

The door clanged shut, as he disappeared with the guards. I was trapped in there while everyone was busy celebrating the moon ball.

I was alone, fear crept in at the words Alexander spoke to me.

What would tomorrow bring, and what surprise was he speaking about?

The Moon Ball celebration, will he reject me?

Alexander's rejection is a clear view and he will definitely do it.

Or something worse from him?

As the darkness closed in, I felt a chill run down my spine.

I heard a faint whisper.

"Vanessa...you're not what you think you are."

My heart skipped a beat, Who spoke?

And what did  they mean?

The whisper faded into silence as I couldn't get to see the person behind the voice.

Leaving me with only questions and the haunting feeling.

That tomorrow would change everything, I was still shocked as everything was happening within a blink of an eye.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps outside my cell and I wondered who it could be this time.

The door creaked open and a figure slipped in.

"Vanessa," a soft voice whispered to me.

I turned,it was Elara, Alexander's sister.

"Elara, what are you doing here?" I asked, hoping that maybe she will save me.

Elara's eyes locked onto mine.

"I came to warn you," she said, her voice barely audible. "Alexander's not what he seems. There's something darker at play." She paused looking around to Savage her environment.

My heart pounded.

"What do you mean?"

Elara's gaze darted around the cell.

"I'll tell you tomorrow," she whispered. "At the Moon Ball. Meet me in the garden."

And with that, she vanished into the shadows.

Leaving me with more questions, and a glimmer of hope but how do I leave the cage?
