Chapter 4

Envy was part of the way through the parking lot before she realized she didn’t have a car to run to. With Jason and Chad both gone, she’d have to call a taxi, or let Trevor take her home. Seeing his car out toward the end, she pretended she’d been heading toward it the whole time.

She didn’t know if it was all the adrenalin rushes she’d had tonight or what, but she simply wasn’t mad anymore. Not that she wanted to make up with Trevor. Hell no. Seeing him come around her like he was going to get in the driver’s side of the car, she smirked defiantly and decided to sit on the hood of the car instead.

Trevor nearly rolled his eyes but let go of the door. Jumping up beside her, he looked around the parking lot to see if they had any company, but thankfully it was quiet and empty. That was good. He really didn’t need an audience for what he was about to tell her. He didn’t know where to start. It wasn’t like he could just blurt out; ‘I’ve been lying to you since the day we met.’

Devon stayed out of their line of vision as he circled them and came up along the row of trees behind Trevor's car. His sister knew better than to give that drink of hers to a human. Hell, the stuff was barely safe for shifters and Kat had turned it into the favorite drug of the locals.

She’d found the recipe in their grandmother’s stuff after she’d died. Their grandmother had been a medicine woman for the jaguars and that juice was mostly given to females on their wedding night when they were frightened of the first mating. In addition to the added alcohol effect, it gave a huge rush to female pheromones.

He’d smelled Envy’s pheromones earlier and they didn’t need a kick… she’d already been horny as hell. He planned to help her out with that as soon he got rid of her wanna-be boyfriend

“I’m not mad,” Envy informed him, as if she didn’t care enough to bother fighting about it.

“You’re not?” Trevor asked, turning his head to look at her curiously. He knew she’d been drinking because he could smell it. But he didn’t think he’d left her alone long enough to get drunk.

“No, and I realized something tonight.” She leaned back on her elbows and stared up at the sky, noticing for the first time in a long time how pretty it was at night. “We’ve only been dating for the sex.” She nodded, as if that cleared everything up, “It was good, but we weren’t really a true couple.”

“What?” Trevor voice was angry, as he leaned over her, pinning her to the car by placing a hand next to each one of her shoulders. Glaring down at her, he slowly shook his head, “Don’t get me wrong Envy, I’d like nothing more than to fuck you right here and now, but that’s not all there is between us and you know it.”

For a moment, Devon's eyes took on the surreal light of an animal caught in the headlights of a passing car. By sheer force of will, he restrained himself from becoming the dangerous predator that pulsed within his veins.

Envy looked up at Trevor, as his hair slid forward off his shoulders to create a curtain around the perfection of his face. “It won’t take you a day to find another girlfriend.”

Trevor shook his head, “No. I’m dating you.”

Envy felt heat spreading down her belly and up her thighs, as she remembered watching him make love to her in this same position. Damn, it was getting hot out here. She shoved him away, not wanting to feel anything sexual for him right now and sat up, as she made a scene of readjusting her top.

“We can’t date anymore because I don’t want a boyfriend. I want to start dating a lot of guys instead of only one. I haven’t done that since high school and I remember really enjoying it.” Obviously it was the night for lying. “This way, it won’t matter when I catch one wrapped around another girl.”

Trevor’s hope bloomed when she said that. It meant there was a chance to make amends. If he could get her to agree to let him be one of those guys, he could run the other males off quicker than they could come.

“Envy wait,” Trevor slid off the car to stand beside her and sighed, running a hand through his sandy blond hair. “You’re right. I’ve been lying to you… but not about other girls.”

Envy glared up at him, “It’s a little too late to be telling me that you’re gay.” Then she had a funny thought, “Although, I bet Kriss Reed would love a shot at you. I think Tabby told me she caught him looking at your ass several times.” She lied, just to see the look on his face.

Trevor shivered at the visualization. Kriss was okay as a friend, but he didn’t swing that way.

“Damn it Envy, I’m a CIA agent and I came to this town undercover!” he reached out and grabbed her arm, swinging her back around to face him when she started to walk away. Trevor could tell by the look on her face that he had about ten seconds to explain.

“I know I should have told you from the start, but I’m not supposed to tell anyone… not even my lover. I’ve been working the bar scenes for a reason. I was here tonight only on surveillance. I didn’t tell you to meet me here because this place is a lot more dangerous than you think. I didn’t want you anywhere near here. I didn’t want you to end up like all the other people that have gone missing or wound up dead!” There, he’d finally said it.

Envy inhaled sharply, finally feeling the flame of anger kick back in. She took a step closer to him and looked defiantly up into his lying blue eyes. She poked him hard in the chest, “So, all this time you were just using me? Lying to me? Fucking me just so you…”

Trevor cut her off by reaching out and jerking her flush against him. “I met you after I started working the bars, and I was attracted to you with or without the damn job.” He slashed his lips across hers trying to prove his point.

Envy inhaled in shock but that only allowed Trevor to deepen the demanding kiss. Feeling heat pool between her legs, at the domination, she groaned and kissed him back, just as fiercely.

Devon started to take a step forward to rip the man’s head off but before he could follow through with the thought, there was a buzzing sound and Trevor was once again convulsing like someone with epilepsy.

Trevor fell to his knees and Envy went off knowing he could still hear her just fine. “We have been dating… sleeping together for three months and the whole time you were lying to me! That only confirms the fact that I don’t need a damn boyfriend.”

She lowered her voice to an angry hiss, “I liked you more when I thought you were just cheating on me. Oh don’t worry, I won't tell anyone who you really are, because I won't be mentioning your name ever again.”

When it looked like Trevor was getting some of the feeling back in his limbs and was going to stand up, Envy showed him the taser about a foot from his face warningly, “And as for this place being so dangerous that you didn’t want me here, that you just had to go make out with other girls, well guess what?”

She leaned closer and glared, “I start work here tomorrow night. But right now I think I’m going to go back in there, pick the first guy I see, and fuck the hell out of him! And you… you had best not come anywhere near me or I won't need this damn taser because I’ll happily kick your ass myself!”

Devon felt himself straining upwards inside his pants. Seeing her fiery little temper brought out his dominant nature. He felt the heat rushing through his veins and almost growled. He wanted nothing more than to rein in that fire and make her submit to him… under him; while he drove into her so hard she would never remember Trevor.

“Now that we have your secret identity all wrapped up, why don’t you go back to the Bat Cave and find a new disguise because this one isn’t working.” Envy swung around and started back for the club.

“Damn it!” Trevor growled and pushed himself up off the ground to go after her.

Devon narrowed his eyes on the self-proclaimed CIA agent. The electrical current from that taser should have kept him down longer than that. Coming up behind the unsuspecting man on silent feet, he reached out and pinched the nerve in Trevor's neck, then caught him before he could hit the concrete.

Pulling his shirtsleeve over his fingertips so he wouldn’t leave prints, Devon opened Trevor's door and pushed the guy in, shutting it quietly before he headed for the side entrance of the club. He wasn’t mad at Trevor. He wanted to thank him for screwing up so magnificently and leaving Envy within his reach. A predatory smile graced his lips as he entered the club.

The sign on the front of the building created an eerie light over the parking area. On the roof of Moon Dance, a single figure stood on the edge watching everything with amusement. His long trench coat moved in the light breeze while he inhaled lazily on a cigarette.

“My my Devon ol’ boy,” Kane purred. “I do believe you have a crush. I wonder what would happen if I decided to crush on her too?”

Dropping straight off the edge of the roof, he landed in a crouch on the ground close to the human’s car. The shadows wrapped around him like a long cloak to avoid being seen by Nick who was still present by the front door.

He cracked the door open just long enough to barely graze his fingernail across the man’s neck, then closed it, as he lifted the drop of blood and tasted it. Cocking a golden eyebrow, he spit the blood out.

“Oh god, haven’t your kind been wiped out yet?” he growled, knowing what the others could not, and then made a quick exit back to the shadows. His eyes narrowed as he searched the area smelling another vampire and this time it was very familiar. He inhaled, longing for the warmth of friendship before making his way back to the roof.

Nick leaned against the wall outside of the main doors watching the parking lot and hearing every word that passed between Envy and Trevor. As his brother stuffed the other man into his car, Nick smirked until he noticed the faint smell of vampire. How the hell did the son of a bitch get past him?

Nick growled knowing it was probably Michael because the scent was clean vampire. Instead of smelling like the grave, Michael’s scent wasn’t so different from the shifters, woods and fresh earth.

Not many vampires had a clean scent, but his brother Warren had been friends with Michael for as long as anyone could remember and Michael had always held the same scent… unlike the other vampires he’d run across. He relaxed back against the brick watching Envy as she walked by him without even noticing he was there.

Nick whispered into the com-link, “I’m driving our friend to a different location and flattening his tires before he wakes back up. Seems some people like to be tasered… such a masochistic breed humans are.”

He didn’t expect Devon to respond to the favor but he did enjoy the giggle that came from Kat. He wasn’t doing it just for Devon. He wanted to go through the man’s dash and wallet to see what he was up to.

Nick headed across the parking lot, got in the car, and started searching Trevor’s pockets for the keys. Not wanting to stick his hand in the tight pockets, Nick simply ripped the one the keys were in and shoved them into the ignition.

Taking Trevor’s wallet out of the back pocket, Nick flipped it open and started searching through it. He saw the CIA badge and a bunch of credit cards. Foregoing the cards, Nick looked in the main pocket and found a wad of cash. Not a bit of guilt did he feel, as he took out the money and shoved it in his own pocket.

Tossing the wallet onto the floorboard, Nick reached over and opened the glove compartment. Inside was a Beretta 9mm with two clips, a silver dagger, a small vial of holy water, and was that rose oil? Nick sighed and shut the glove compartment. That was a little much.

Turning around in the seat, he started going through the items in the back, trying to figure out if this guy was for real or if the badge in his wallet was a fake. He wondered which would make it worse. If he was a fake, then he was a freak.

“What a bad, bad boy, little Nicky,” Kane whispered and flicked his cigarette over the edge. “Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s not nice to go through other people’s things?”

Below him, a girl stumbled around the corner more than a little drunk. She swayed dangerously on her high heels and fell against the wall. She mumbled incoherently as she opened her purse and started looking for something. She giggled when she pulled out a set of car keys and walked unsteadily to her car.

“Well, well, what have we here?” Kane whispered, as he watched Raven step out of the darkness. “The prodigal son returns.”

“Look at me little one,” Raven whispered on the breeze.

The girl stopped and looked around with wide eyes.

“Look at me,” he said again.

The girl looked on the other side of her car and jumped when she saw a Goth looking man staring at her and dropped her keys.

“You scared me!” she exclaimed with a giggle and bent over to find her keys. “I gotta get home.”

Raven was suddenly standing beside her with her keys in his hand. “I have a much better idea. Why don’t you let me drive you to this nice, quiet place and have a drink?” he asked. His eyes glowed as she fell under his power.

“Okay,” she whispered dreamily and gave him the keys.

Raven got her into the passenger side then slid behind the wheel. The young woman was suddenly on him, kissing him feverishly. Raven went along with it, moving his hands up the back of her shirt waiting for Nick to drive off. His patience was rewarded moments later when Nick started the engine of the car and slowly drove out of the parking lot. Raven gently put the woman in the passenger seat and started the car.

“We’ll have more fun where we’re going.” he said cryptically and followed behind Nick.

Kane stepped out of the darkness wondering what his little vigilante was up to now. He glanced back toward the club knowing he would find out soon enough. For now, he wasn’t done sightseeing. He waved his stamped hand at the bouncer standing by the door as he reentered Moon Dance for the third time that night.

Kat watched as Envy marched back into the club like she was on a mission. Her eyes dropped to the other girl’s hand and saw the taser gripped in it. Her eyebrows rose as Envy pushed it back in her pocket and took off down the steps toward the dance floor.

Seeing Devon come in the side door and take off down the steps after her, Kat slowly walked over to the railing and glanced down.

To say Envy was mad would have been an understatement. She slid past several groups of dancers to make her way to the middle of the throng. Finally satisfied that she was deep enough into the pit, she closed her eyes and started moving to the strange music that excited her senses.

The music they played here reminded her of hot sex. Come to think of it, everything seemed to be reminding her of sex tonight… even Trevor.

He’d been a passionate lover, not slow and soft. When he’d touched her, it hadn’t been in fear that she would break, and Envy had enjoyed that. She’d kissed many guys in the past and almost all of them had barely touched her lips with whisper softness. She’d hated it and known better than to date them just from the first kiss.

Trevor had been the best kisser she’d found so far, but still, even he’d held back. She wanted someone that wouldn’t hold back. Tonight, she wanted someone who didn’t know her and wouldn’t care if she broke.

She felt fingers sliding across her skin again in invitation… bodies brushed against hers. Envy kept her eyes closed, waiting on the touch that she could feel above the rest of them.

There… big hands sliding around the front of her, dragging her backwards against a hard body. She leaned back against it, rolling her head to the side as he bent his face into the arch of her neck. One hand slid upwards to cup the underside of her breast while the other one wondered lower… over the flat planes of her belly before dipping down to the dangerously low waistband of her leather skirt.

Envy trembled as his upper body pressed against hers, forcing her to tilt forward just enough to make the top of her skirt loosen so his hand could slide under the leather.

Her eyes snapped open when he cupped her between the legs in a firm, possessive grip. Looking in front of them with wild eyes, she noticed no one was looking at them because of the darkness… they were all busy touching each other or making out.

Feeling his long middle finger massage against her moist panties and press between her nether lips, she moaned and leaned back, trapping his hand where it was… right where she needed it to be. She slammed her eyes closed again wanting to only concentrate on that hand.

When he tried to bend her forward again, she thrust against his hand and pressed backwards, trying to win their little game of who was in control.

She had been so horny and mad all night she didn’t know if she wanted to fight or have foreplay, so she decided she wanted both. Gripping his arm as if to keep it in place, she rolled her hips feeling his finger press upward against her opening, then she slid down really fast, pulling his hand free of her skirt.

Darting forward, she barely made it to the wall before he had her again. She tried to turn around but he pressed her against the wall. Catching her hands against the cool painted cinderblock, he raised them above her head with one hand and pinned her there, just out of the reach of the black light that was high above them.

Devon bent down enough to rub the evidence of his thick hard erection against her rounded ass. When she moaned and pushed against the wall so she could grind backwards against his iron stiff hard-on, he growled.

Reaching in front of her this time, he gripped the inside of her thigh and pulled her legs apart. Letting his palm swiftly trail upwards, he had what he wanted again.

Shoving the moist cotton to the side, he realized she was hairless and growled in approval. He dipped his fingers between her lips into the hot wetness that awaited him. Running it through her juices, he placed his fingertips over her g-spot and tortured the small bundle of nerves that was already starting to swell with need.

“Oh my god,” Envy moaned, as they both moved in rhythm against each other. Who needed sex when they had this?

Devon was suddenly angry with her. The whole time that he’d been touching her, he knew she hadn’t had a chance to see that it was him… but here she was, in her mind with a perfect stranger. If he hadn’t been here, would she be withering against someone else?

His thoughts darkened at what he would have to do to tame this fiery little hellcat. She belonged to him.

Running his lips against the side of her neck, Devon pushed her long hair out of his way until he had access to the area between the side and back of her neck. Drawing some of the skin into his mouth, he suckled on her as he slid his finger deep inside her, letting his thumb work its magic on the g-spot that was causing her to quiver for him.

Envy’s knees almost buckled when she felt herself come around his finger in hot pulsating waves. The way he was sucking on her neck only lent to the sensation as she came for him.

With a flick of his finger across the bundle of overly sensitive nerves, she came again and this time, she felt his teeth bite down on the skin he’d sucked into his mouth. The thought should have frightened her but she was far too lost in the heady sensations of two orgasms straight in a row.

Devon quickly released the skin he’d marked and inhaled some of the anger that had just raged through him. His gaze slowly lowered to the mating mark he’d just given her and growled possessively at the sight. He’d never had the urge to put his mark on anyone, but now that he had branded her as his, he felt his rage calm.

Envy felt him slowly withdrawing his finger from her. Stilling against the wall, she looked down and followed his hand as it rose from under her skirt. Twisting around, she watched in fascination as he brought it to his lips and suckled her juices from his finger.

Her eyes widened seeing Devon's face illuminated by the black light above them, the light’s reflection in his strange eyes made them look like they were glowing with an inner fire.

“Devon,” she whispered, as an odd fear tickled its way up her back. Her knees started to buckle again when she felt small orgasms still pulsing between her legs. She felt herself lower a couple of inches but steadied herself and came back up. Now that his arms had loosened, she turned to face him with a million thoughts running through her mind at once.

Every single thought was cut off as his arm slid behind her and tightened possessively.

“Let’s finish what we started,” Devon whispered harshly, just before his lips descended on hers in an almost savage kiss.

He could smell her fear but the scent of her passion was stronger. He’d seen the frightened excitement shining in her eyes but the darkness surrounding them was nothing to him. He was a shape shifter, a jaguar, and he could see just as well in that dark as he could in the light.

*****

Kane played idly with the earring in his ear while looking down across the club’s dance floor. He took in the mass of writhing bodies that were barely discernable to normal eyes. The temptation to join them was great. It was one of the best attributes of this time period, the music and the dancing.

He knew Michael was still within the building somewhere above him and he slowly looked up. Not seeing Michael was eating him alive and he silently wondered how much longer he would last before he gave into the need.

However, Kane wasn’t there to enjoy himself, he was there to find his prey and see if he could gather any recon information on them through observation. Moving his gaze smoothly across the lower level, he trained his eyes on individual people and was rewarded when he saw Devon with the lovely redhead that had caused such a stir outside.

He watched the two grind almost obscenely on the floor and arched an eyebrow. A smirk slowly worked its way onto his handsome face when he saw Devon’s expression.

“So the kitten has finally found a mate,” Kane whispered. “Enjoy her while you can.”

Kane turned away from the scene and approached the bar. Seeing Devon with his potential mate angered him. It was Devon’s father that had trapped him underground where he could only hear the child’s voice… a voice full of fear as she was wounded. He hadn’t been able to touch her… love her. The way Kane saw it, if he couldn’t have his soul mate… then the jaguars couldn’t have any either.

Satisfied with his logic, he lifted his arm to signal the bartender. After ordering a glass of red wine, he lit a cigarette and exhaled slowly, refusing to put it out when the bartender glared at him. He had stopped living by rules ten years ago.

She had a feeling he knew something was wrong but didn’t want to pry. When he asked how she and Trevor were doing, she’d given him the one-word answer of ‘Fine’ and left it at that. Kriss pulled to a stop in front of her place and put the car in park. “Here we are milady, home sweet home.” Envy grinned, “Such a gentleman,” she said then sighed, “Why do you have to be gay?” Kriss chuckled, “Tabatha asks me that at least twice a week and I tell her the same thing I’m about to tell you.” “And that would be?” Envy asked, really wanting to know the answer. “I don’t know,” Kriss shrugged, like even he was totally lost on the subject. After last night’s activities, that little catnap in Devon’s bed hadn’t done a thing for her, so seven hours of undisturbed sleep sounded like heaven. Setting the clock back down beside the cordless phone, she climbed into bed. Just as she was closing her eyes the phone rang. Leaning up to look, she glared at the caller ID. It was Trevor. But Kane had never stooped this low. “Some hardheaded vampires should seriously come with instruction manuals,” Michael said with an aggrieved sigh, wondering who this was going to hurt more… him or Kane. Stepping off the window ledge, he dropped soundlessly to the ground, landing right in Kane’s path. “Kane, just how long did you think I would let you get away with not speaking to me?” Michael asked, with his arms crossed over his chest.

Chapter 10 “What the hell are you doing here?” Jason asked, glaring at Trevor. He knew the kiss hadn’t meant the same thing to Envy as it did to him but it spiked his jealousy anyway. “I came to talk to my girlfriend,” Trevor stated, feeling the same spike. Jason stood up, “She’s not your girlfriend after the stunt you pulled last night.” “Well, don’t think after one little kiss that it makes her your girlfriend.” Trevor sighed, seeing Envy sandwiched between Kriss and Tabatha and completely ignoring them. He glanced toward the office behind the bar wondering at the testosterone he smelled coming from the jaguar. Did Devon Santos think he had a claim on Envy? He glared at the closed door knowing damn well that if he shifted into a jaguar and fought Devon, Devon didn’t have a chance in hell of winning. Trevor looked back at Envy, who was still ignoring him. He took a deep breath and paused, then breathed in again. It was still there. He knew Envy had taken a show

  • Moon Dance (Blood Bound Book One)    Chapter 9

Chapter 9 Trevor sat on the floor in front of his coffee table in the living room going over the information PIT had faxed over to him. They’d found another body a couple of alleys over from Moon Dance with the club’s stamp on her hand and a cougar sighting in Night Light’s parking lot. The cougar sighting didn’t really bother him. He knew it was one of the Wilder’s just coming in for the night. What he wanted to know was where the cougar was coming from. There hadn’t been a reason for any of them to be out, at least not shifted. Taking another drink of strong coffee, Trevor picked up the picture of the girl and studied it again. This one was exactly like the others. A young girl, early twenties, deep slash across the neck, but that’s where the similarities ended. There was no rhyme or reason for the killings. Whoever was doing this obviously wasn’t picky about their victims. He paused at his own line of thinking when a stray thought popped in his head. Why would th

  • Moon Dance (Blood Bound Book One)    Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Envy was towel drying her hair as she walked out of the bathroom, steam following her path like something alive. Grabbing the alarm clock from the nightstand in her bedroom, she set it for two in the afternoon and smiled in satisfaction. That would give her about seven hours of sleep. With an evil smirk, she turned on the answering machine and fell back on the pillow. She knew Chad wouldn’t answer the phone because he used his cell phone for everything. If someone was calling the house, then it was for her and after she’d destroyed the other phone last night, it left the cordless as the only backup. “Envy? I know yo

  • Moon Dance (Blood Bound Book One)    Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Envy sighed in relief when she saw her front door come into view. It’d been a long night and she couldn’t wait to crawl into bed. She fished out her key, which thankfully hadn’t been lost at the club. Another thing she was extremely thankful for was Kriss not asking any questions. Envy laughed and slapped him playfully o

  • Moon Dance (Blood Bound Book One)    Chapter 6

Chapter 6 Steven was upstairs checking every door he came across looking for the vampire who had tried to get inside their club. The last door in the hall was locked so Steven braced his shoulder against the wood before ramming into it. The door fell inward and he was abruptly splashed with water. “Back demon, be gone!” an aged voice raged at him. Steven shook his head and glared at the priest who looked like he’d just stepped out of a bad vampire movie. “What the hell?” The priest slowly lowered his cross while placing his other hand over his heart as if he were striving off a panic attack. “You’re not one of them?” Steven growled, “Last time I checked my teeth were normal.” He shook his head trying to dislodge some of the water droplets. ‘Normal for a cougar anyway,’ he thought to himself. He cocked an eyebrow, already knowing the answer before he asked it, “Have you seen any vampires tonight?” The priest nodded vigorously, “Yes, I’ve been a virtual pris

  • Moon Dance (Blood Bound Book One)    Chapter 5

Chapter 5 Envy could taste herself on Devon’s lips and it shot even more heat through her already overwhelmed body. Right now, she didn’t care that he was her new boss. If she wanted to, she just wouldn’t show up for work tomorrow night. She had other jobs. Tonight, all she wanted was more of what he was giving her… a few untamed moments to forget everything except this primal need rushing through her. “You’re killing me,” she murmured against his lips, then joined in the rough kiss with a touch of her own passion clashing with his. For a moment they fought to see who was going to dominate the kiss, but he won hands down on that round. “That’s not what I’m doing to you,” Devon breathed harshly, fighting the need to take her right there on the edge of the dance floor. “But I know what I’m going to do to you.” She felt his hand come down to cup her thighs and lift her. She didn’t hesitate. Envy raised her shaking legs and wrapped them around his waist while she kept a hol
