The marriage

★★★

The Lawrence family manor was one of the oldest residential manors in South Hampton City, surrounded by trees and a small lake. There were guards outside of the manor gate. In South Hampton City, Lawrence was a prominent family.

“Are you hungry?” Jessica asked Cornell as they stepped inside her family house. Subtly grinning, Cornell shook his head and denied his mother. His gaze traveled throughout the entire manor and the unknown residents of this enormous manor. He was a little taken aback that his mother had to work so hard to become a well-known actress and model, despite the fact that his granddad had a fat bank account.

“I will take care of him. Don't worry. Go upstairs! Father is waiting for you,” Stefen said from behind, then he gestured to the servants to carry the luggage.

Jessica turned to face her son and said, "Eat some fruits in my room. I'll return in a moment."

Jessica looked up and informed Stefen politely, "He loves strawberries and peaches, and he loves alone time."

Then Jessica went up the stairs and ran into Eva, her stepmother. They exchanged angry looks but refrained from engaging in a fight because Eva was plotting something against Jessica that would not only make her happy but also net her a bag of cash.

Eva scowled and walked down the stairs with a smug expression. Jessica made her way up to the library to see her father, after seven years.

When Jessica entered, Darren, who was using his laptop while seated at a table, immediately looked up.

“Sit,” Darren said to Jessica who did not show any emotion to her father. Her father's lack of trust and use of the whip against her was still fresh in her mind. She might not have wanted to harbor resentment towards her father for that, but she still hadn't forgiven him.

Jessica pulled the chair with a loud noise and sat down with her legs crossed.

Darren swallowed the ball of patience and endured the rudeness before pushing the water glass over to Jessica.

“If you feel thirsty,” he said with an uncaring tone.

“I've been informed that you spared your time for me. What kind of business do you have with me? Huh! I am so fortunate,” Jessica chuckled as she spoke while gazing at the glass. She picked up the ability to spot those with hidden agendas, and she discovered that her fictitious father was sly when it came to business.

“Jessica, Your words with two meanings are intolerable to me. No matter how bad our past relationship was, we shouldn't bring it up now, after all these years," Gritting his teeth, Darren spoke. His already simmering rage at Jessica's callous demeanor intensified, causing sweat to form behind his back.

“Hmm! I apologize; these days, every time I speak, I offend someone. Mr. Lawrence, tell me why I've been summoned," Jessica said, grabbing the glass. She paused as she brought it to her lips and said, "I suddenly felt I am not thirsty anymore."

Darren slammed his laptop shut and gave Jessica a stern look before saying, "You must wed Mr. Tenant, the owner of the Ros industry. I fixed your marriage to him.

“Hahaha! Oh my God!" exclaimed Jessica as she laughed.

“This is the motive I was asked to meet you,” Jessica took a pause and then continued, “The reason for my visit is that I have a shoot scheduled here. I haven't given marriage much thought yet.”

“I don't want any nonsense behavior in this because marriage is equally important to you." Darren leaned back in the chair, adding, "You should be grateful that Mr. Tenant doesn't care that you have a son."

“I should be grateful to the man who has a history of torturing his wife and later divorced her. You really have changed the definition of a father,” Jessica shouted with resentment and stood up from her seat, then turned around to leave but her feet stopped when she heard Darren.

“You have a responsibility to uphold as my daughter, just as I have done for you as a father. If Rilika is not dating a powerful person, I should have approached her."

Jessica became icier, and her emotions froze over. She did not cry because her anger had become entrenched in her eyes.

Jessica went out and shut the door with a loud 'Bang.' Darren closed his eyes angrily.

Jessica entered her bedroom. On the way, she did not come across anyone, nor did she catch a glimpse of Rilika. She discovered her son with wet hair and in casual clothing, indicating that he had just showered.

Cornell was a gift from heaven. He was only six years old but he was independent. Not only did he take care of himself but he also took good care of his mother.

“You look pissed, mother. Why don't we stay in the hotels? I will take care of it,” Cornell suggested to his mother. His voice was such an assurance that made people feel a six-year-old boy did have that capacity.

The thing they did not know was that Cornell could use his brain to bring hailstorms on a sunny day. He was a gifted child whose mind moved at the speed of light.

Jessica approached Cornell and hugged him close to her chest, saying, "I have items to take back from them that belong to my mother. And in the meantime, I will teach some people good lessons that I was unable to give in the past. Then we'll return to Poland."

Cornell closed his eyes in his mother's arms and said, “What if Daddy doesn't let us go?”

Jessica chuckled and asked, “Do you already find your daddy?”

In response, Cornell pulled his face away from his mother's embrace and said, "You know me, it won't take me long to figure it out."

Jessica sighed and muttered, "I know you are a genius, but please allow me to offer some advice that you must heed. First, We won't try to force your father to accept us even if you manage to find him, and second, if he is married, we will leave his married life in peace."

Cornell shook his head and smiled, “You are the best mom!"

“And you are my life. We'll rest up for a bit now, and then we'll go out to have some fun in the evening,” Jessica said as she kissed her son's head.

Following that, Jessica went to the bathroom to take a shower.
