XAVIER'S POV

I strode into the hospital with the confidence of a man who owned everything in his sight. And why not? I practically did. The crisp, sterile smell of the hospital didn’t faze me; I was used to the finest things, and this place needed my money more than I needed their gratitude.

As I entered the meeting room, my eyes immediately locked onto her. Ella. The woman who had haunted my thoughts for years. She looked as stunning as ever, and the sight of her sent a surge of possessive desire through me. I wanted her, plain and simple. I wanted to feel her, to claim her again, and this time, to stay in her life.

Her eyes widened in shock as she recognized me. Good. Let her be surprised. I liked the idea of unsettling her, of making her wonder why I was here. As Mr. Anderson droned on about the charity event, I barely paid attention. My focus was solely on Ella and the way she tried to compose herself.

When Mr. Anderson finally left, the room fell silent, the tension thick between us. Ella looked up at me, her voice steady but her eyes wary.

"What are you looking for, Xavier?"

I took a step closer, invading her personal space just enough to make her feel it. "Isn't it obvious? I’m looking for you, Ella. And I always get what I want."

I watched her eyes flutter, her gaze flickering all over the room in an attempt to not hold eye contact with me. I couldn't help but notice the remarkable glint of shock in her eyes, Ella obviously didn't expect to see me here. I was one of this hospital's most influential sponsors.

I had ordered Mr Anderson to hand over the lead nurse role to Ella. She deserved it, I heard of the way she's been treated over the years and I just couldn't stand it.

"Not this time, Mr. McKinney," Watching her address me formally aroused me even more. She looked sexy in the nurse uniform, her curves were evenly accentuated and her cleavages catching my attention even more.

"Why act like a stranger Ella? We both know we've got far more chemistry than that." I teased watching as her cheeks turned red. In a calculated motion, I launched slowly, my face pulling closer to hers as I aimed for her lips.

But this time, I paused, her breath fanning my ears.

I watched her pull back almost immediately, rising out of the swivel chair she was sitting on. I couldn't help but acknowledge the pungent urge to have Ella all to myself— right here and right now.

But as adamant and hard to get as the woman I had spent a one night stand with four years ago, Ella hadn't change. Still as hard as a nut, and I liked that. Memories of the one night stand flashes into my mind, Ella had been a virgin then and I was intrigued.

She was unlike any other lady I'd ever tasted, sweet, pleasure full and attractive. I saw her turn facing the exit and was about leaving when I gripped her wrist causing her to turn back.

"Heading out already," I chimed, my voice filling the office.

"Whatever chemistry we had is irrelevant now. I’ve moved on, and you should too." Ella chided, her angelic voice filling my ears. Watching her try so hard to make it look as if she didn't feel an attraction a while ago made me want to kiss her even more.

"Irrelevant, some may say, but I can tell you still hold the memory of that pleasure filled night," I urged, watching her features soften upon my words. "I can still remember the sound of your voice moaning my name and both of us reaching climax."

With a gentle reserve, I rose to meet her figure, her cherry red lips calling unto me as I watched her utter, "Mr. McKinney, I assure you, whatever happened that night is ancient history. I'm here to do my job, not to entertain your fantasies. Let's keep this professional."

"Fantasy, ugh? I wouldn't place what we shared fantasy as it was pretty much an ecstasy," I dragged my words, watching her slowly succumb to my effect. From her nurse uniform, I could see her nipples had already pebbled, she wasn't wearing on any bra.

"Oh stop it, Mr McKinney," She recoiled softly, her features hardening almost immediately. "Is this how you harass your staffs?" I heard her voice chim out, her jaw hardening.

"We both know you are more than a staff to me, Ella." I beamed, with a dark smile as her cheeks turned daisy red. "Besides, seeing Ivy the other day ignited a spark the other day."

Ella’s expression hardened at my words. She squared her shoulders and met my gaze with steely determination.

"Ivy is my daughter, Mr. McKinney, and she is none of your business. Whatever you think you can waltz back into, you’re mistaken. My focus is on my job and my child, and that does not include you." She queried, her eyebrows quirking.

I couldn't help but notice the traces of anger in her gaze. Ella was a strong woman and I appreciated that, she was never the type to succumb easily but I could still say, only I could ignite a fire in her.

I leaned against the desk, letting the silence between us stretch, thick with unspoken tension. Our connection had always been intense, almost magnetic. No matter how much time had passed, it was still there, humming beneath the surface.

"You can feel it too, Ella," I said, my voice low, almost a whisper. "That pull between us—it’s undeniable."

She shook her head, her jaw tightening. "Whatever we had, Xavier, it's gone. I’m not interested in revisiting the past."

A slow smile spread across my lips as I straightened up, stepping closer to her. Her defiance only made me want her more. I could see the fire in her eyes, the strength she had gained in my absence.

"You’ve got some nerve, little miss," I murmured, my voice deep and laced with desire. "And I like that."

And with that, I left her standing there, knowing full well this was far from over.

ELLA'S POV "And I like that." Xavier's words filled my ears, the undeniable connection of our bodies causing me to fiddle gently. My body throbbed with a lot of emotions, if anything, I wanted him to pin me to four walls of this office. For him to claim me— but I won't show it.He was a jerk, one I wasn't going to allow into my life. He had left me to myself then causing my then almost perfect promising career to be shattered. I couldn't help but feel a trace of hurt in my veins, my face hardening.Back then, I had the perfect life as an adult college student, a hot boyfriend, a best friend that loved to party. My career was promising, I was supposed to be a doctor, but all my dreams laid in dirt the moment the doctor had told me I was pregnant. We were having a practical back at school, I had fainted and my best friend, Maggie, with the help of Dave, my ex boyfriend, had both helped me to the sick bay. The nurse there had taken some test and had announced discretely that I was pregn

ELLA'S POVI was walking briskly down the hallway, trying to keep my head up despite the jumble of thoughts still lodged in my mind from Rhea’s confrontation. My hand tingled where I had smacked her and as the adrenaline ebbed away, a boiling blend of anger and satisfaction set in.Penny, who had been waiting for me at the nurse station, waved the instant she saw me. Her eyes sparkled with a hint of delight which was replaced almost immediately with some curiosity."What happened?" Penny asked, worry ringing clearly in her tone.I forced out a smile, not wanting to add to her worries. "Nothing, just Rhea’s usual nonsense, nothing worth stressing about."Penny looked at me knowingly; she saw right through my attempt to downplay it. “Ella, come on. What did she say?”Looking around to see if anyone could hear us, I sighed. "That's a story for later but I have some big news now."“Really?” Penny lifted an eyebrow curiously the worry in her tone ebbing away.Stopping in my tracks, I turne

ELLA'S POV "Whatever you’re trying to prove, Ella," He said, his voice softer, "it doesn’t change what’s between us.""I have to return back to work, sir?" I said, my head bent in an aim not to catch his gaze."You're mine, Ella." I heard him say, my mind freezing with fear as I lose myself in the ocean blue color of his eyes. The intoxicating fragrance of his body flared my nostrils, woody and dangerously seductively — I'd deduce. I couldn't help it but acknowledge the enticing feature of his body, his almost perfect body standing just an inch away from mine. The fiery burn in his eyes held me in their captivating charm, the heat of the moment causing me to snap back into reality. I wasn't his, I told myself countlessly as my body throbbed, aching for his touch. Pulling my self back, I said slowly freeing my hand from his grip, "I have to get back to work, sir." Flashing a final glance at him, I turned in an elegant swivel heading in the direction of the hospital. The glance I fl

ELLA'S POV “Don't you dare—” I threatened, ready to tear into Rhea. The sight of her made my skin crawl as I felt a sense of dread running in my veins. The sight of Rhea confronting Ivy was like a punch to my gut. I had been racing through the hospital, my mind a whirl of panic and worry, only to arrive and see Rhea, of all people, taunting my daughter. My heart pounded as I saw Rhea standing over Ivy, her smug expression a stark contrast to the tears streaming down Ivy’s face. The other nurses, those who always seemed to find a way to look down on me, were huddled around, their laughter sharp and cruel. I felt a surge of anger rise up, hot and fierce. How dare they? How dare Rhea use her position to hurt my child? Her words cut through the air, each one a blade aimed straight at Ivy’s vulnerable heart. I could barely hear the details, the anger in me blurring the specifics. All I could focus on was the sight of Ivy, small and trembling, her face streaked with tears."How could you

ELLA'S POV“Yes or yes?” Xavier’s words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. The weight of his offer, the audacity of it, made my blood run cold. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, each beat reminding me of the enormity of the situation. I wasn’t ready to give in to him. Not now, not ever. But as I opened my mouth to speak, to tell him exactly what I thought of his manipulative proposal, the door creaked open, and Mr. Anderson stepped into the room. My words caught in my throat as I glanced at Xavier, wondering how he would react.“Mr. McKinney,” Mr. Anderson began, his voice almost reverent. “I just wanted to make sure everything is proceeding smoothly with our plans—”Xavier’s gaze didn’t leave mine as he raised a hand, cutting off Mr. Anderson mid-sentence. “You’re dismissed,” he said, his tone commanding and dismissive all at once.I watched, astonished, as Mr. Anderson faltered for a moment, looking almost like a scolded child, before nodding quickly and retreating fr

ELLA'S POV I looked up to find myself staring into the eyes of Xavier McKinney. Of course, it had to be him. My heart leaped into my throat as his hands gripped my arms, holding me upright. The intensity in his gaze was almost too much to bear, and for a moment, I was frozen, trapped between the urge to pull away and the undeniable pull he had on me.“Ella,” he said, his voice low, filled with something I couldn’t quite place. “We need to talk.”I swallowed hard, forcing myself to breathe as I nodded. “I—okay. Just… let go of me.”He released me slowly, his fingers trailing down my arms before finally letting go. I stared at Xavier, trying to keep my composure as he stood there, his gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that made my heart race. "Why act like a stranger, Ella? We both know what happened that night wasn’t just a fluke. It was real—undeniable."His words hit me like a punch to the gut. ELLA'S POV “Mommy why is Mr Halpern here with our things?” I heard Ivy say as she tugged at my fingertips. I stood frozen in my own tracks as I watched my most dreaded scene play before my eyes. Mr Halpern, my die-hard Landlord, was back again. He was very strict when it had to do with his rent's pay. My rent had gone due just today and he was already getting ready to kick me out.“Here are your bags,” Those were the only words I received from those cold lips of his. Mr Halpern possessed a short stout figure, draped in a disheveled grey suit and a ridiculous tangled moustache. “I don't understand, why are you kicking me out already my rent's just due by a day.” I managed to express a little out of the numerous emotions I had flowing in my bloodstream. Mr Halpern's stout figure pulled closer, “Well, if you had responded to the 35 mail I sent to you to pay your rent before it goes due, we wouldn't be having this conversation.”A smirk escaped my lips as I exhaled deeply trying to main

EllA'S POVTHE NEXT DAY."Grin, grinn!" The loud buzzing of my alarm clock rang into my ears causing me to pull from my once peaceful sleep. With a disoriented yawn, I stretched my fingers in an attempt to turn off the alarm. And just when I thought I did, the ringing ceased. My eyelids opened slowly, my weak eyes adjusting to the piercing sunlight from the windows. My eyes opened to the cute view of Ivy, my daughter."What are you doing, sweetie?" I asked, my voice coming out as an hoarse whisper as I pinched her cheeks softly. "Wake up, mummy. I have school, remember?"My eyelids chimed open slowly, this time, meeting the piercing determination in Ivy's eyes. No trace of sleep lingered in her bright eyes. With a soft sigh, I pushed the covers aside and helped her get dressed. After selecting her outfit, I watched her walk out of her closet dressed in a pink gown and leggings. After that was done, I proceeded to fixing her hair in a neat ponytail. With my comb running through the

ELLA'S POV As the car zoomed out of the McKinney mansion, I stared back at the figure of Rochelle and the man sprinting towards the parking lot. She flashed her a gaze and scrambled it through the parking lot in a daze. When her eyes met, I could've sworn the glass of the backseat door shook as her gaze pierced through it's transparent base. “That's her!! She running off!” She beamed and a dark smile tugged at my lips.I turned back to the driver and caught a glance at the bright glimmers of worry in his eyes. He turned to me, “It seems something's wrong, should I wait behind ma'am?” I winced sharply with my heart thumping hard in my chest as my voice rippled out in an hoarse beam, “No. Keep on going. I can't have them meet us here.” The driver hesitated for a minute before he said, “Yes ma'am,” He turned back to the steering wheel and gripped it before stepping his foot on the accelerator. The car roared to life and as the car sped into the streets, a surge of elation braced my h

ELLA'S POVAs I reached for my phone, I heard a sharp gasp tear through Rochelle's lips as she lunged in my direction. Stealthily, I maneuvered and ducked as I raced into the hallway.I started slowly, taking soft strides before I gathered enough momentum to make me sprint as fast as possible. As I pushed forward on weak legs, I heard her yelling at the guy she was with. “What are you looking at stupid? Go get her!!” Her commanding voice lashed through the air and I heard the ceding sound of boots and heels behind me. I continued running, this time, I made sure I was able to get to the staircase fast. My fingers shook like a winter leaf as I gripped the banister. The breath rolling through my lips heightened and with each whiff of air I took in, I felt my lungs tighten as I paused to glance at them. I tilted my head in their direction and I caught the sight of Rochelle sprinting towards me with her acquaintance hovering behind her in a wrinkled shirt and sagging trousers. The sight o

ELLA'S POV “Stay safe dear,”I waved at her. Ivy. She was just about pulling another unsolicited questionnaire when I shifted my gaze to my wrist watch. “You're going to be late. Hop into the car.” As my words travelled into the air, Ivy flashed me a glance and for the first time in what felt like forever, my curious little rascal turned and stepped into the car. My jaw tilted downwards a bit as shock seared into my veins. It took a while before she got to the car's backdoor and from where I stood, I watched her struggle to open the door. “Don't worry honey, I'm on my way.” I pushed forward slowly with a sharp jolt of membranes bridling my shoulders. The strength left in my legs was beginning to spiral out but I held back, steeling myself to stay strong.I clenched my fists tightly before taking slow strides in her direction. When I got close enough, I stretched my fingers and gripped the knob as I pulled it. The door pulled open and the flashy interior of the car caught my eyes. I

XAVIER'S POV “Now that Mr Xavier has finished his speech, we can now start voting.”I heard the soft beams of voices from behind me as I flashed my gaze at the media team. I stared at them for a moment and I fixed my gaze on each and every one of them. I took a moment to asess them and within a few seconds, I finished my analysis. In their widened eyes, their fear, anxiety and pity gleaned back at me.I sighed. The voting that was about to start was something that could either smoothen the edges of my life or create a dent but I made a decision and I was going to stick to it. Whatever happenes, I'd still stand by the company. I'd still nurtured it. I'd still watch it grow. The McKinney legacy couldn't go down like that.No.The sharp edgy lighting in the media team were holding beamed in my direction and I blinked slowly, steeling my eyes away from the lights. “It's so sad the president was kidnapped, I'm sure it’s the handiwork of that lady. This wasn't the first times they acted like this but this… this was definitely going to be the last. The news of the president going missing shocked me out of my wits. After my chat with him, he asked me to leave and as I returned to the room, I passed the night on the bed with Ella. I pulled into the sheets disorientedly as waves upon waves of tiredness launched into my veins.I was just about to pull to sleep when my phone suddenly beeped with an emergency contact signal from the president. I jumped to my feet almost immediately and grabbed my phone as I sprinted out of the room.I pushed the door open and raced into the hallway like a child being chased by clowns. My case wasn't really far from that. I was being chased by my fears, my hopes and the nerving sensation that came from the thought of having something bad happen to him.I couldn't afford to loos

ELLA'S POV ~The next day~“Good morning ma'am.” The sharp, cutting voice of a female slipped into my ears as I pulled out of the hazy confines of sleep. I yawned, stretching disorientedly as my stretched my fingers and reached for the other side of the bed to check if, just if, Xavier returned back to the room that night. My fingers stroke the soft cushion of his size of the bed and a sense of worry flowed into my veins. My eyes pulled open as I pulled my back from the bed. I flashed my gaze at his side of the bed for anything that hinted his presence but all I received was the familiar whiff of him in the sheets.Did he pass the night here or was all of this just another one of my disturbing thoughts? As I asked myself the question, I shot a glancea t the figure standing at the other side of the room. XAVIER'S POV Dear reader, if absolute shock and confusion were a person, that god-damned person would be me.As I stood there, I felt my knees buckle as I nearly lost balance. The words the president spat out echoed repeatedly against the walls of my ears and with each replay, I felt fear encircling my senses. The fact that Lucas was the leader of a powerful mafia gang leader from Russia wasn't a small thing.I still couldn't believe it. Why would I believe Lucas, my uncle whose case I used to think could be taken down by a mere court case, was actually a powerful mafia lord himself.Confusion wrapped around me like a cocoon and in it's nerving sheets, I found a haunting solace that sent chills down my spine. It revealed a lot to me even at this time when I needed it the most. I used to think I could take him down with one course case backed with evidence but it's only then I realized this battle was one that had exceeded sparing words. The little energy I was able to gather in my l

XAVIER'S POV When my lips pulled open, It was to the starry vision of a dark room. I winced sharply, fear purring in my veins as I tried my best to make out something from the background I was.The last thing I remembered was zoning out after the president told me my family were killed by the brutal hands of Lucas McKinney and Madam Browne. As the thought punched through my mind, I shook my head slowly, my face powdered with sweats.Even now, I still couldn't believe it. It had to be a joke. Madame Browne and Lucas couldn't have done that. This had to be a dream, a nightmare of some sorts.I was sure it was edged far away from reality. That was the only logical reason I was waking up in a dark room. I must be sleeping peacefully on a bed with Ella's body clinging to mine.I must be sleeping peacefully. That had to be it.This was a dream. With gentle flinches, I pulled my back from the hard ground and I felt the brushing texture of the group against my back. XAVIER'S POV I obeyed the president's words and took my seat. As I did that, I still couldn't get a grip over the waves of emotions soaring in my chest. I flashed him a glance and I noticed the plain glint of remorse in his eyes. For quite a long time now, the president had been hiding something. I knew that for sure but what didn't know was why. Anytime he tried to talk to me, either Madame Browne or Lucas comes in and intrudes but this time around, there's no rooms for games. My heart thumped wildly in my chest as I took my seat and my chest heaved. I stared back at the president expecting him to start an explanation but instead, he stood up and walked over to the door which he locked before walking back to where I was.I wasn't sure what it was but I could tell for a fact that something was about to go down. Something dark. Something ground shattering.I steadied the uneven gasps rippling through my lips and turned back to him. The president's eyes turned dark almost immediately a
