XAVIER'S POV
"Thank goodness you're here sir," I heard a call as I alighted the car closing the door gently behind me. Turning to face Alex, I rushed past him into the hospital where my father was being taken care of. Running past the security men at the hospital, I hurried for the counter. Arriving there, I turned to the nurse at the counter and blurted, "Excuse me nurse, which room was my father kept?" "Oh, Mr Xavier, good to see you again..." She bickered licking her lips seductively while staring hungrily at me. "Can you shut the fu*k up and tell me what room my father is in." Shaken by my sudden yell and the stares she got, I watched as the nurse hurried with the files on the counter. "He is in the platinum vip treatment room at the top floor." Hearing her words, I walked over to the elevator, waiting as it's doors finally chimed open and I entered. Tapping the numbers of the floor I was headed, I waited patiently as the elevator, paused, the doors opening as someone else got in. I was shocked out of my wits to find out it was Ella. Why do I keep running into her? It all didn't look like a coincidence anymore. She was also shocked to see me, and turned to a side trying to avoid eye contact with me. I watched her from the corner of my eyes, she was dressed in a black top that revealed small parts of her breasts. "What do you want, Xavier?" She spat out, "I can't have you stalking my every move any more." "You know what I want, Ella," I replied softly, my voice breaching the elevator's silence. I watched as she immediately spat out, "You are not going anywhere with my daughter, she isn't yours!" "I accept that but don't you think it's just too much of a coincidence that she is four years old, just around the same year we had the one night stand." I said turning at her. "She's not yours Xavier," I heard her beam out as I noticed the glints of fright in her eyes. "I can easily tell you're lying Ella, we both know she's mine." I went on, waiting for her to snap anytime from now like all the others do. I really wanted to know if really ivy is mine, I wanted to confirm it all from Ella herself. "What if she's yours, I'm not going to back down without a fight?" She threatened clutching her purse harder. I watched her eyes, the fiery anger subsiding softly, "I'm not here to fight, Ella." "Then what do you want, why can't you just walk way from my life like you did years ago." Ella sniffed as she immediately broke into tears. I tried to stretch an hand to console here but she snapped, "get away from me!" "I am so.." I was about to finish when she interrupts with a stern frown, "what do you want Xavier?" "I want you, ivy, a second chance to give both you and ivy the lives you deserve," I replied sincerely as I gazed at her features, she was still as sexy as our one night stand, her curvy body just a step away from me. Those eyes, lips, it all called unto me. I couldn't help but feel a sudden pull as I pulled my face closer to her face to kiss her when she turned away all of a sudden. Watching as she turned away, I held her, making her face me and I immediately took no risk and kissed her. She didn't fight back, our kiss deepened even more for a second not until she immediately pulled away. "I have to leave." She hurried, some files in her purse falling down, as the elevator door chimed open and she alighted heading off. I wanted to rush after her but before I could, the doors had chimed close. The elevator doors slid shut with a soft whoosh, and I leaned against the mirrored wall, my mind racing. Ella. It had been years since I last saw her, and yet the moment I laid eyes on her, it was like no time had passed at all. The kiss we shared just moments ago was unexpected, but it stirred something deep inside me, something I thought I had buried long ago. As the elevator descended, I noticed a small, laminated card on the floor. Ella's ID. I picked it up, my eyes scanning the information. She was a nurse here. Of course, she was. It made sense, given her nurturing nature, but it was still a shock to see her name and face staring back at me from the plastic card. The elevator came to a stop with a gentle lurch, and I stepped out, sliding the ID into my pocket. I needed to focus. My grandfather had just had a heart attack, and I needed to be there for him. The sterile scent of the hospital hit me as I walked down the hallway to the ICU. I pushed open the door to my grandfather’s room, my heart heavy with worry. He lay in the bed, frail and pale, but his eyes were as sharp as ever. “Xavier,” he rasped, his voice weak but determined. “Grandfather,” I replied, taking a seat beside his bed. “How are you feeling?” “Like hell,” he said with a faint smile. “But that’s not important right now. We need to talk.” I nodded, knowing what was coming. “I know.” He reached out and grabbed my hand, his grip surprisingly strong. “You’re all I have left, Xavier. After your parents died, I took you in. Raised you as my own. And now… I want to see my great-grandchildren before I die.” I swallowed hard. “Grandfather, you’re going to be fine. You’ll be around for a long time yet.” He shook his head. “Don’t placate me, boy. I know my time is limited. I want you to get married. Settle down. Have a family.” I looked away, the weight of his words pressing down on me. “I understand. I’ll… I’ll do my best.” “Promise me, Xavier,” he insisted, his voice breaking. “Promise me you’ll make this happen.” “I promise,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Satisfied, he closed his eyes, his breathing evening out. I stayed by his side until he fell asleep, the beeping of the monitors a constant reminder of his fragile state. Leaving the room, I found my assistant, Alex, waiting for me. She was tapping away on her phone, her face serious for once. “How is he?” He asked, looking up. “He’s stable,” I replied. “But we need to move forward with the plan. He wants me to get married.” Alex nodded, his usual light-hearted demeanor replaced with a rare seriousness. “Understood. What’s the next step?” I handed her Ella's ID. “Find out everything you can about her. I need to know why she was here, why she left so abruptly, and what’s happened in her life since we last met.” Alex took the ID, his eyebrows raising slightly. “Are you sure you want to dig into this?” “Yes,” I said firmly. “I need to know what’s going on. I need to know why she disappeared. And if she’s… if she’s hiding something from me.” Alex nodded, slipping the ID into her bag. “I’ll get on it.” We left the hospital and headed to a nearby bar, the atmosphere a stark contrast to the sterile environment we’d just left. As I left the hospital, a sense of unease settled over me. Ella was back in my life, and I was determined to find out why. But this time around, I am ready to give it whatever it took.ELLA'S POV "I have to leave," I uttered, wiping some strands of my hair to a side as I made my way out of the elevator. In a fit of rush, my bag fell and all my documents were all littered to the elevator floor. Bending to pick it up, I hurriedly packed up the few documents my hands could reach and immediately dashed out of the elevator before Xavier could call me. Just as I stepped out, I heard the soft chim of the elevator as I heaved out. Wiping off the beads of sweats clouding my forehead, I stood, trying to calm my heart's erratic beating. I was shocked to meet him here again. Was he stalking me? It was now beginning to look mysterious, they way he keeps popping up wherever I go. First was with Ivy, now at my workplace, what next? Was he going to pop back into my life and take over?I felt a whirlwind of emotions as I touched my lips, the memory of our kiss creeping back to me.Shit. How could I be so foolish, to allow him kiss me. Xavier was a flirt, he surely had a way of k
ELLA'S POV "Be a good girl for mommy, okay?" I smiled softly, patting my daughter Ivy's head as we walked next door to the Thompsons'. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, old and retired, had been absolute lifesavers since Ivy was born. They didn't have children of their own, but they had showered Ivy with all the love and attention she could ever need, making their home feel like a second home for her.As we walked up the path to their front door, I noticed the crisp morning air and the scent of blooming flowers from their garden. It was a quiet, peaceful moment, and I felt a wave of gratitude for having such wonderful neighbors.I knocked on the door, and it swung open to reveal Mrs. Thompson. She was dressed in a nice outfit, clearly ready for something special, and her husband stood behind her, adjusting his tie."Good morning, Ella," Mrs. Thompson greeted me with her usual warm smile, but there was a hint of regret in her eyes. "I’m so sorry, but we have an event to attend today. We won’t be
XAVIER'S POV I strode into the hospital with the confidence of a man who owned everything in his sight. And why not? I practically did. The crisp, sterile smell of the hospital didn’t faze me; I was used to the finest things, and this place needed my money more than I needed their gratitude. As I entered the meeting room, my eyes immediately locked onto her. Ella. The woman who had haunted my thoughts for years. She looked as stunning as ever, and the sight of her sent a surge of possessive desire through me. I wanted her, plain and simple. I wanted to feel her, to claim her again, and this time, to stay in her life. Her eyes widened in shock as she recognized me. Good. Let her be surprised. I liked the idea of unsettling her, of making her wonder why I was here. As Mr. Anderson droned on about the charity event, I barely paid attention. My focus was solely on Ella and the way she tried to compose herself. When Mr. Anderson finally left, the room fell silent, the tension thick betwee
ELLA'S POV "And I like that." Xavier's words filled my ears, the undeniable connection of our bodies causing me to fiddle gently. My body throbbed with a lot of emotions, if anything, I wanted him to pin me to four walls of this office. For him to claim me— but I won't show it.He was a jerk, one I wasn't going to allow into my life. He had left me to myself then causing my then almost perfect promising career to be shattered. I couldn't help but feel a trace of hurt in my veins, my face hardening.Back then, I had the perfect life as an adult college student, a hot boyfriend, a best friend that loved to party. My career was promising, I was supposed to be a doctor, but all my dreams laid in dirt the moment the doctor had told me I was pregnant. We were having a practical back at school, I had fainted and my best friend, Maggie, with the help of Dave, my ex boyfriend, had both helped me to the sick bay. The nurse there had taken some test and had announced discretely that I was pregn
ELLA'S POVI was walking briskly down the hallway, trying to keep my head up despite the jumble of thoughts still lodged in my mind from Rhea’s confrontation. My hand tingled where I had smacked her and as the adrenaline ebbed away, a boiling blend of anger and satisfaction set in.Penny, who had been waiting for me at the nurse station, waved the instant she saw me. Her eyes sparkled with a hint of delight which was replaced almost immediately with some curiosity."What happened?" Penny asked, worry ringing clearly in her tone.I forced out a smile, not wanting to add to her worries. "Nothing, just Rhea’s usual nonsense, nothing worth stressing about."Penny looked at me knowingly; she saw right through my attempt to downplay it. “Ella, come on. What did she say?”Looking around to see if anyone could hear us, I sighed. "That's a story for later but I have some big news now."“Really?” Penny lifted an eyebrow curiously the worry in her tone ebbing away.Stopping in my tracks, I turne
ELLA'S POV "Whatever you’re trying to prove, Ella," He said, his voice softer, "it doesn’t change what’s between us.""I have to return back to work, sir?" I said, my head bent in an aim not to catch his gaze."You're mine, Ella." I heard him say, my mind freezing with fear as I lose myself in the ocean blue color of his eyes. The intoxicating fragrance of his body flared my nostrils, woody and dangerously seductively — I'd deduce. I couldn't help it but acknowledge the enticing feature of his body, his almost perfect body standing just an inch away from mine. The fiery burn in his eyes held me in their captivating charm, the heat of the moment causing me to snap back into reality. I wasn't his, I told myself countlessly as my body throbbed, aching for his touch. Pulling my self back, I said slowly freeing my hand from his grip, "I have to get back to work, sir." Flashing a final glance at him, I turned in an elegant swivel heading in the direction of the hospital. The glance I fl
ELLA'S POV “Don't you dare—” I threatened, ready to tear into Rhea. The sight of her made my skin crawl as I felt a sense of dread running in my veins. The sight of Rhea confronting Ivy was like a punch to my gut. I had been racing through the hospital, my mind a whirl of panic and worry, only to arrive and see Rhea, of all people, taunting my daughter. My heart pounded as I saw Rhea standing over Ivy, her smug expression a stark contrast to the tears streaming down Ivy’s face. The other nurses, those who always seemed to find a way to look down on me, were huddled around, their laughter sharp and cruel. I felt a surge of anger rise up, hot and fierce. How dare they? How dare Rhea use her position to hurt my child? Her words cut through the air, each one a blade aimed straight at Ivy’s vulnerable heart. I could barely hear the details, the anger in me blurring the specifics. All I could focus on was the sight of Ivy, small and trembling, her face streaked with tears."How could you
ELLA'S POV“Yes or yes?” Xavier’s words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. The weight of his offer, the audacity of it, made my blood run cold. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, each beat reminding me of the enormity of the situation. I wasn’t ready to give in to him. Not now, not ever. But as I opened my mouth to speak, to tell him exactly what I thought of his manipulative proposal, the door creaked open, and Mr. Anderson stepped into the room. My words caught in my throat as I glanced at Xavier, wondering how he would react.“Mr. McKinney,” Mr. Anderson began, his voice almost reverent. “I just wanted to make sure everything is proceeding smoothly with our plans—”Xavier’s gaze didn’t leave mine as he raised a hand, cutting off Mr. Anderson mid-sentence. “You’re dismissed,” he said, his tone commanding and dismissive all at once.I watched, astonished, as Mr. Anderson faltered for a moment, looking almost like a scolded child, before nodding quickly and retreating fr
