Amelie reacted as fast as she could and shoved the man away.
She couldn’t believe that she had come here with the pure intention of helping someone out, yet this scumbag dared to try and take advantage of her!
Gritting her teeth in anger, she furiously wiped her lips, getting rid of the blood that had sipped through from the fresh wound and wincing slightly.
“You scumbag!” She snarled, eyes twisted in complete rage. “How dare you-“ her words were cut off as the man once again stepped forward and pinned her back to the door, attempting to continue his actions from where they had been stopped.
Amelie felt rage. Pure rage and without thinking twice, she brought her knee up and kneed him right in his manhood. The man immediately let go of her and staggered backward, hunching over and cupping his place of pain in the process.
Amelie watched him as he did this, a smirk slowly forming on her lips.
“If I knew you're such a disgusting pervert, I wouldn't have come in to help!” She spat and then scoffed, pointing her hand at him. “Just wait, I’ll have the security drag you out of here and make sure that you spend your night behind bars.”
As soon as those words left her mouth, the man looked up at her. His face was still twisted with pain and anger but his gaze had a sharp edge to it. She could barely see his face as the room was still dark, however, she didn’t wait any second further and rushed out of the room.
Immediately she left, the door opened again and two figures walked in. One of the two figures was the *ssistant director of the hospital, Michael, and the man’s *ssistant, who rushed to his side upon seeing him on the floor.
Michael quickly turned on the light, his eyes wide with disbelief and worry.
“Mr. LaCroix? What happened?! Are you okay?!” Michael hastily inquired.
His words of worry, however, were silenced as the said man glared in his direction.
“I gave you one simple job to do a good d*mn scan and you leave me in here.” He snarled, his voice low.
“I-I’m so sorry, Mr. LaCroix. I didn’t expect you'll have a sudden relapse-“ Michael stammered, but the glare that the man sent his way immediately shut him up.
Eric, Mr. LaCroix’s *ssistant, gently helped him up. Although his expression seemed neutral, he was surprised on the inside.
After Eight years, Mr. LaCroix’s strange illness suddenly came back, causing those strange scars to appear all over his body again. Eric had quickly rushed him to the only hospital that knew about his special case. He had then stepped out for a few minutes to answer a call, only to come back and meet this, but his unsightly scars were gone. What exactly had happened?!
Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Eric asked. “Sir, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” The man answered almost immediately, eyes glued darkly on the spot where the female he had just been with previously stood.
Seconds later he frowned, trying to make headway about what just happened.
It was the first time in years that his insides had felt at peace.
Like a sudden bucket of ice had been poured on a raging fire. It had been a feeling that he had only experienced once again after eight long years, and he had liked it. No, he loved it.
He wanted to feel the fire inside him calm down like that again.
Turning to Eric, he demanded. “There was a woman in the room with me a few moments ago, have the surveillance tapes of this room Sent in immediately and find out who she was.”
“Yes Sir.” Eric replied.

Amelie was storming towards the security room, fuming, when she got a call from Arthur. She stopped briefly and answered the phone calmly.
“Yes, Director?”
“Doctor Amelie, I apologize, but it seems like the patient had something to do, so the appointment has been canceled,” Arthur informed.
Amelie nodded her head and said, “I understand, but please, make sure this won't happen next time, it might affect his health.”
“I understand, Doctor Amelie. I’ll see to it that it doesn’t happen once more.”
“Okay, bye,” Amelie said and hung up.
She shoved her phone back into her lab coat pocket and continued her walk towards the security room.
However, as she walked past the receptionist area, the sound of a familiar voice caught her ear, making her stop in her tracks.
“…Kid, I’ll ask you again, what are you doing here?” One of the hospital nurses asked, bending down to the height of the child with auburn long hair and gray eyes.
“I told you, my mother works here. My brother and I came to see her.” The girl repeated her previous sentence once more with confidence.
The nurse got up and sighed, shaking her head in the process. It had been nearly five minutes since she had been having this conversation with these children and she wasn’t making headway. Suddenly, she spotted Amelie who was approaching them and beckoned.
“Ms. Arnuad, thank goodness! Could you please help me out here?”
The two children who had been conversing with the nurse turned in the direction she was looking and chorused.
“Mommy!”
The little girl was the first to rush into her embrace, and the boy with blonde hair and Gray-Green eyes with a mole underneath his left eye, followed behind, hugging her other leg all the while Amelie accepted them with a warm smile on her lips.
The nurse glanced between the pair of identical children and Amelie, surprise and confusion clearly reeling on her face.
No rumor had ever mentioned anything about the genius doctor being married, talk less having a pair of adorable twins.
“Ms. Arnaud, are you married by any chance?” She managed to ask.
Amelie bent down and scooped up the younger pair of twins, Miguel, chuckling in the process. “No. I’m actually a single mother.”
“But…” The nurse couldn’t believe it. “You raised them all on your own? Even while studying something as hard as medicine? What about their father?” She inquired.
Amelie’s smile froze and her eyes glanced to the side. “Their father…” She mumbled.
Is a f*cking scumbag who took advantage of a young girl and then left without any words. That is what she would have loved to say.
However, for the sake of her innocent children who, after hearing all the stories she fabricated, believed that their father was once a good man, she simply answered. “He died before they were born.”
“Oh,” The nurse answered somberly, almost regretting her decision to ask such a question. “It must have been hard for you.”
“Not a all. Miguel and Michelle are quite sweethearts and they make my job really easy.” Amelie said with a smile, shifting her attention to the older twin and asking. “Michelle, now why are you here?”
“Mom, we came to visit you and the receptionist lady said she Didn’t know us and refused to allow us in,” Michelle informed.
Amelie pressed her lips into a thin line and gently rubbed her daughter’s hair with her free hand. “Michelle, what did I say if you leave school without my permission?”
“You said we should always wait for you to come and pick us up and never leave on our own,” Michelle repeated the instructions she had been told times.
“So? Did you follow my words?” Amelie asked.
Michelle lowered her head as if suddenly realizing that she had committed a mistake. However, Miguel stood up for his sister by saying, “Mommy don’t be angry at Elle, she only brought us here because I wanted to see you. I really missed you.”
Amelie smiled softly at this and kissed her son’s forehead. “Alright, you are forgiven. But the next time you leave school, make sure you have permission, okay?”
Both of them nodded their head in unison.
“We understand!” They chorused.
Amelie smiled looking at them. As her schedule for the day had all been cleared, she was ready to take her babies back home together. However, as the elevator door pulled open, an emergency bed sped past them, prompting Amelie to pull Michelle back and out of the way.
“Are you okay?” She quickly asked.
“Yes Mommy, I’m fine,” Michelle answered with a brave smile and Amelie sighed.
“The patient is losing blood, we need a doctor to check up on her, fast!” One of the paramedics yelled in demand.
Amelie watched as nurses rushed to the emergency bedside while replying, “Doctor Camille is currently undergoing surgery on a patient and Doctor Alexandra is preoccupied with a patient in another room."
“Well find a way to get in touch with a doctor, we need one here and right now!” One of the paramedics replied.
Amelie watched the interaction with etched brows. Was there really no one to help at the moment?
She scanned the space around and it was indeed as the nurse had said. No doctor was currently available!
f*ck! She cursed in her mind, free hand clenching tightly at her side. She had to help. She just couldn’t stand here and watch someone lose their life!
“Mom?” Miguel asked confusingly as Amelie placed him back down on his feet.
“Don’t worry Miguel, I’ll be back soon, I just have to take care of one little thing. You stay with your sister and listen to her, okay?” She instructed sweetly.
“Okay,” Miguel answered and Amelie gave him a kiss on the cheek before turning to Michelle.
“Elle, take care of your brother and wait for me here, alright?”
Michelle nodded her head, albeit looking slightly worried. “Are you sure you want to go help them, Mom?”
“I can’t sit idly and watch a person’s life slip away just because there’s no doctor to help. So yes, I have to. I’ll be back in a bit, okay?”
“Okay,”
With a nod, Amelie quickly followed in the Direction the paramedics were going, stopping when they did. “Hello, I’m Doctor Amelie Arnaud.”
The paramedics glanced up at her, spotting her employee barge and a look of relief instantly flooded their faces. “Doctor, thank goodness, this woman was involved in a minor car accident and needs immediate medical attention.”
“I see.” Amelie followed them until they came to the examination bed all the while the others' eyes shone as if the lord had just gifted them an angel.
Amelie gave them a smile but it faded the moment she got closer to see the face on the examination bed. It was none other than the person whom she had once called her family.
The very woman whom she had not once seen since eight years after that night.
Her stepmom. Audrey Arnaud!
Amelie hadn't expected to run into her stepmother so soon after eight years. Her jaw clenched tightly and her hand which was on the bed railing gripped the iron so hard that her knuckles nearly turned white. She felt her insides burn with anger and hatred, but she tried her best to keep a good composure, reminding herself that she had come here to do her duty as a doctor. She could not let her personal issues get in the way of her profession.Clearing her mind, Amelie fixed her expression, but the same couldn't be said for Audrey who looked totally shocked to see her again after Eight years.Wasn't she...wasn't she meant to be dead?! So how come? Why was she here, fine and alive after she and Chloe had thrown her off the bridge?"You! How are you here?!" Audrey exclaimed in absolute horror, quickly scouting back and away from Amelie's hand in fright.Amelie simply shook her head and sighed. She could hear how frightened her stepmother was by the sound of her voice which wavered.Of co
The results were out!Michelle and Miguel stared at the tablet screen, each refusing to make a single move. This had been what they wanted, searching the nation's gene pool and finally finding out who their father was, but now that the time had come, both children couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over them."D-Do you think..." Miguel began, trying to ignore the way his voice cracked, "Do you think this is really okay?" He asked.Michelle didn't respond. She instead quietly stared at the tablet screen and after a few seconds, was hesitant to click and check the result.Even though they both wanted to know who their father was and what type of man he was, they feared that he'd be a bad person. In their earliest memories, each time Amelie spoke about their father, Michelle, and Miguel could both see the way their mother's face soured and the pain in her eyes even though she tried telling happy stories. The memory of their father was definitely a painful topic for their mother
Amelie had taken a taxi straight to the Arnuad Estate after dropping Michelle and Miguel at their school. As The taxi drove past the iron gates, she couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over her.It was unusual for her father to demand so adamantly that she returned home after what he had done eight years ago.For a fact, she knew he didn't feel guilty but she had to come for her mother's necklace.'What a pain.' Amelie thought as her taxi came to a stop in front of the grand Arnuad mansion. She paid the driver and stepped out. The house was still the same old grey, emotion-deprived mansion she'd grown up in. Even though she'd been gone for 8 years, nothing much had changed. There was no warmth and no comfort. It was cold and empty.Amelie decided to retrieve the necklace quickly. She had no intention of staying here for any second longer. With a steeled mind, Amelie approached the door and was just about to ring the doorbell when her father pulled the door open."Amelie, you
In a five-star hotel, Eric anxiously paced back and forth at the presidential level. He couldn't understand what was happening. Just yesterday his boss had been fine and then suddenly, his condition came back today. And the doctors were stumped too.Stopping his pacing, Eric gently cracked open the door to check up on his boss. Zacharie was slumped against the bed's wood frame amongst all the wreckage and destruction in the room. His eyes were half open as he looked up at the ceiling. The poor guy was drenched with sweat and numerous scars marred his body and on the exposed corners of his neck were black pulsing veins that wrapped around his body like beautifying vying. However, what they brought was far from beauty but rather an unbearable amount of pain to Zacharie."Mr. LaCroix?" Eric called out hesitantly. "Please hang in there, Madam Aubert will soon be here."The blood of Mr. LaCroix's fiancée was said to be the only thing that could ease his illness. They were waiting for her b
"Yes?" Zacharie asked. The stranger opened his mouth to speak when he spotted the woman lying in the chair behind Zacharie. His eyes widened and then hardened a few seconds later."Her, Amelie Arnaud, I'm here to pick her up." He said, not taking his eyes off the woman."What?" Zacharie asked, glancing back at the woman in confusion. "What do you mean? Who are you?""Ah, forgive me for not introducing myself. My name's Skylar Hargreaves, a close friend of Amelie's." He introduced. "Now, would you be as kind as to hand her over?""And why should I do that? How am I even sure that you're her friend?" Zacharie asked, narrowing his eyes suspiciously at the man.Skylar reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He tinkered with it for a few seconds before flashing it in Zacharie's face.A picture of him and Amelie. They both were in the park. The man's arm around the woman's shoulder while she leaned into his embrace with a heartfelt smile on her lips.Zacharie's brows knitted toget
The room instantly fell silent after the slap. Skylar stared wide-eyed at the scene, while the men behind Zacharie were too shocked to react.Amelie herself was surprised. She had not meant to slap the man, her palm had moved on its own accord.Suddenly, Zacharie looked at her and his face was grim. She flinched upon seeing this and some part of her began regretting her action, however, the other side of her fought hard against that other side, refusing to allow her fear to win.Zacharie had disrespected her. Those words he had said and those absurd *ssumptions he had made were all way too over the line.Who was he to say that she had an affair with that greasy old Dylan White just for money? He didn’t know the full story and had no right to judge! This was just one out of the many reasons why she'd much rather be fed the dishes than stand by and allow him to spill such nonsense! And if there was one thing she had learned well in recent years, it would be that quietly tolerating insul
Miguel knew this because when he had woken up earlier in the day for school, he found Amelie acting weird. From her body language and behavior, he could tell that she was annoyed and skeptical about something. However, when he had asked if everything was alright, Amelie just ruffled his hair and told him that it was a matter concerning adults and that he didn't need to worry.Worrying about his mother, Miguel had secretly placed an invisible camera inside the purse she had carried out earlier and then he heard the evil plans of Amelie's stepmother and sister and immediately called Skylar.Of course, Amelie didn't know this and the children weren't planning on revealing this anytime soon. But then that would mean that he had to stay silent.Watching as Miguel refused to speak, Amelie spoke up. "Miguel? Don't you like this necklace? It's a precious belonging that my mother left for me. It once belonged to your grandmother."Miguel looked up at his mother and bit down hard on his lower l
Amelie's eyes grew double in size and she was made speechless upon seeing Zacharie, the same could be said for the crazy lady who slowly backed away, cowering."M..mr. LaCroix." She stammered, her body trembling as if noticing the presence of Zacharie, the city's lord of wealth."Are you okay?" Zacharie asked Amelie and she reluctantly nodded her head, grip tightening on his jacket.Zacharie then turned his gaze towards the woman and narrowed his eyes."You," he said and the woman flinched."I'm sorry! I apologies Mr. LaCroix! I wasn't aware that she was your acquaintance! I'm really sorry!" The crazy woman babbled on in fear. She was aware of how much power Zacharie held in the business world and if he so much as blow wind into the ears of others, her husband's business was sure to collapse and her family would then be really ruined. She had to avoid that fate at all cost!Bowing her head low, she apologized once more. "Please forgive me. It won't happen again!"Zacharie stared coldl
