Eve anxiously drove along the busy road after the close of the day at the office, heading toward her father’s mansion. She was eager to feed the man all about her first day at work.
She envisioned how proud he would be to hear about her success in all the meetings, she thought. Except for the one with Noah though. It’s definitely a failure because there’s no way she would sign the deal. Finally, her car stopped before the large building of the Gray mansion. “Welcome, Miss Gray.” “Welcome, Miss Gray.” “Welcome.” The servants all lowered their heads as she slowly walked past them. “Ma’am, welcome,” one of the servants stepped closer and greeted. “Thanks, Lily. Where’s father?” “Your father is in the garden. He insisted on taking some fresh air outside.” “You shouldn’t have? We all know that his health is not good right now and he should not be anywhere cold. Did you forget it's winter?” “He insisted, ma’am. I'm sorry for being incompetent.” “It's fine. I'll just go outside and see.” Eve walked out of the house and began taking steps to the garden in search of her father. The cool breeze was enough to have her rub her arms soothingly. “He never listens to anyone. It’s so cold outside.” Finally, after a few minutes of searching, she found him sitting on a chair a few meters away and immediately, she stormed to him. “Father,” she scolded. Mr. Gray turned a smile on his lips. “Oh dear, you're here.” “Father, what are you doing outside?” “Taking some fresh breeze. Come on, join me. Let's have a chat.” “Really? Did you suddenly forget all that the doctor said? It's cold outside.” “I'm not cold today. The weather is good. Stop scolding me like I’m a child.” She sighed and stepped closer. “It's not about being a child. You're getting older. Your health is weak,” Genevieve said as she sat on the chair opposite m her old father. She saw the sadness In his eyes as he looked at her causing her to feel a pang of pain in her chest. This man that she finally accepted as her father, she had only known him for ten months but it seemed as if she had known him for ages. Maybe it's the blood bond in their veins or whatever but she felt this strong connection with him. “By the way, why is there a second chair here when you're all alone? Did you have a visitor?” “No one was here. I only brought it here to think properly. You know, your mother and I used to sit here every evening and look at the stars together and she used to sit in that same chair. We used to count the stars together and play right here.” He gazed up to the sky, his eyes filled with regret and pain. “Mother would be proud of you anywhere she is right now. Her husband didn't forget about her even after years of her death. I'm proud of you too, father.” The man wiped his eyes and laughed. “Right? How was your first day at work?” He changed the topic. Eve sighed and glared at her father. “What?” “You know what you did, father.” “Me? Did I do something?” “Yes, you did. How could you make me work so hard on my first day? I can't even feel my bones.” “I gave you the easiest things to do on your first day, you know.” “That means there's more work than that?” He nodded. She looked at him in dread. Why didn't anyone warn her about this? “Really, father? I had a lot of meetings today. And those files on your desk? Jeez.” She wasn't sure that she wanted to continue this at this rate. “Nothing is easy in this life and if you want to progress and move forward, you have to work hard every single day like you will die if you don't. It's all about being consistent and If I can do it and succeed, I'm sure that my daughter will do even better. Trust me. By the way, how was the deal? Has it been concluded?” “Oh, that? Is it that important to you?” “Every deal is important, Genevieve. It's important to both parties. Though not as much as it is to them.” After chatting with her father for a while, Genevieve stood up from the chair and announced her departure. Her father had first refused to let her go and had questioned why she moved out in the first place. Well, she loves to have her space and wants somewhere she can live alone without these blocking servants and security everywhere. After much convincing, he finally let her go. She slowly walked to her car and drove out. Once all of these are settled and once she achieves her goals, she is going to move here again so she can spend more time with her father. The loneliness in his eyes was killing her. She doesn't want to get him involved in her plans and troubles. His health won't handle that. She could still remember the first day that she moved in here. The day that she found out that her father was Mr Gray. All her life, she has been told that she was an orphan and her parents died while she was a baby. That was why she was always bullied in school years ago. While growing up, he lived with her grandmother in a small community. She was her mother’s mother and had taken her in as a child. That was until she decided to move to the city for school and work. After the divorce from Noah, her life became a living hell. While staying with him, she didn't think to save any money and because of that, all she had when she moved out was a few bucks and her phone. The money in her hand didn't even last her three days before it finished as she had spent it all on renting somewhere to spend some days. Getting chased from the motel for not having money to pay for food and rent, she stumbled on the street with her luggage and failed to watch where she was going. She was hit by a car and the next time she woke up, she was in the hospital and it was already a month passed, and with someone claiming to be her father. She learned that after being hit by a car, she was taken to a hospital and ended up being in a coma for a whole month. The man who hit her showed her a DNA result proving that they were father and daughter and gave her a big hug. Up till this day, the story was not that clear to her but she understood the part that she needed to. He was her father and seeing the striking resemblance in both of them she didn't doubt it at all. **** A/N Tell me what of this chapter in the comments. If you have any questions, drop them. I'll reply to all! Love, SuxiNoah jolted upright in bed his eyes searched frantically for the source of the noise before they finally settled on the banging door. “The fuck.” He raked his fingers through his hair groaning as the morning light assaulted his eyes. He’d forgotten to draw the curtains the night before. “Boss!” The urgent call from outside elicited another groan from him, anticipating an impending headache. Morning was never his forte. “The hell you want?” He roared to the person at the other side of the door. “Boss, it's urgent.” “It better be or kiss your ass goodbye.” With that threat, he kicked the blanket off his body and strode to the door. He gripped the handle of the door and flung it open in force. His eyes fell on his secretary. “You’ve got a death wish?” The man gasped when Noah grabbed him by his collar and passed him a death glare. “Boss, it…it’s bad news.” Noah grunted and let the man go with a push. The man staggered backward and after managing to balance himself, he retu
“This?” Ella handed a dress to Eve as they strode through the clothes section in the big mall. It was one of the biggest malls in the city or let’s say that it was the biggest mall as that was where the members of the elite society bought their dresses. “No. Not expensive enough,” Eve replied as she looked at the price tag on the dress Ella just handed her. It wasn’t expensive enough, not just that. It just wasn’t her type of dress at all. Maybe this would fit Ella but not her. Moreover, she doesn’t like the color black at all. It stopped being her favorite color a long while ago. “Right? I thought as much. Considering that you have to look your best on that day.”“Hmm. We have our biggest execution. Check this.”The dress that she handed Ella was a blue tux gown. She noticed that it was going to fit her a lot. “I guess I’m taking this then. Come, let’s go this way. We’ll see more clothes for you.”They both made their way to the other side of the mall where there were also clothes
“Noah, you promised to be available at my birthday party. Where you at?” Melissa complained on the phone to Noah. He promised to be with her on her birthday and now, the birthday party already started an hour ago but he was nowhere to be found. It was almost time to cut her birthday cake and she wanted them to cut it together. What was she going to tell her friends now that he wasn't showing up? She already made it known to them that Noah would be all over her especially because she looked so good. Come on, she has never felt this pretty in a long while. “Commence without me.”“The party already started an hour ago. Noahh.”“I'm busy right now Melissa. Can we talk later?”“Talk later? What are you even doing? This is my birthday.”“I'll be there before your party ends, okay?”“I dressed up this pretty for you. I'm too good-looking right now for you not to see me. Please come.”“I will. Now go back to the party and continue without me.”“Fine.”She ended the call and placed it on her
Gasps and murmurs followed at the sight of the next pictures and videos that were revealed. The smiling Melissa frowned, wondering what it was that made everyone start murmuring. Her eyes almost popped out of their socket when she turned and saw what was making everyone murmur.“Really? So she has been deceiving everyone?”“I can't believe this.”“This is evil. How dare her deceive us all these while.” Their murmurs increased with each passing second and immediately, she stood up and rushed to the projector. “Turn this off. Someone turn this off,” she yelled.”“Who did this? Didn't you hear what I said? Turn it off immediately.”Like a mad person, Melissa held the remote control of the projector and tried turning it off but it was to no avail as the videos kept playing. “What is that, Melissa? Are these true?” She felt Mrs. Hank’s questioning voice behind her and she turned slowly to shake her head. “Mother, these are fake. Someone faked these.”“They don't look fake to me. Tell m
Hearing that coming from Noah himself, Melissa felt like fainting. She felt blood drain from her at the look on his face. He looked like he was planning on killing her if she didn’t start speaking now. “No…Noah.”“I said Explain.”She flinched at his tone.“Th…this is not true, I swear. It..it’s fake.”She couldn’t even look into his eyes as she lied. Her eyes were on everything except him and good Lord, her hands were shaky and her feet wobbly as if she would fall any minutiae from then. “Is that so?”Melissa nodded. “Is that you on the video or not and don’t you dare lie to me this time. This is your last chance to tell the truth.”“It’s Genevieve. Bitch. She did this. We should throw her out before she causes more commotion. This is my birthday party. Security? Security?” She called and nodded as the security guards came running to them. “Take her away from my birthday party right now. Th…throw her outside and make sure she doesn’t come in again. Do it now.”The guards stopped
“Genevieve, Eve,” Noah called as he ran after her and held her arms before she could get into her car. “What do you want now, Noah?”“Wait. We have to talk.”“About what? You want to question why I did that inside and on her birthday too? Look, I have nothing to say. I have to leave.” “I'm not going to talk about that at all.”Eve rolled her eyes. If he was here to doubt her or say something offensive this time, then she isn't going to take that from him at all. “Fine then. Say what you want. I only have five minutes to spare. I have somewhere to be at.”Noah dipped his hands into his pocket. How was he going to say this? “I'm sorry, Genevieve.” Her eyes widened at this. What? He was apologizing. “What?”“I said I'm sorry.”Noah looked away in embarrassment. It wasn't his thing to apologize at all. Apologizing for something was never in his dictionary and it doesn't matter to him if he was right or wrong. Either way, he never apologized. “I'm sorry for what happened a year ago.
“I'm sure this is all Noah’s doings. Only he can get on my nerves like this. He knows exactly what he’s doing,” Genevieve said to herself as she paced around her room. She was in her blue night dress and was pacing around her room with her fingers on her mouth. She was trying to think of a proper solution to the problem at hand. All through the night, she has been unable to sleep and tossed around till daylight. How could she sleep when her company was in danger? There was no way that she was going to sleep while having trouble in her heart. The previous day’s outing with Ella was of great help to her. The karaoke, the rage room, and everything they did helped her get her mind off things and be happy. But that was just for a while because the moment she got out of there to her house, all her problems came rushing to her and she was unable to stop herself from thinking and worrying about it all through the night. It was way above her. “Gosh. Why is my life from one problem to anothe
“Hey, I saw the news. How did it happen?” “It's my fault, Liam. My Dad was disappointed.”“Sit down, let's talk about it.” Genevieve sat down in the chair astride him in the small Cafe a few blocks away from the hospital. “I need your help, Liam. The Gray Corporation is suddenly in danger. They keep creating bad news about us. I don't know what to do right now and father, he got into this because of the news.”“We'll find a solution. But who would have done this?”“Noah Hank. I'm one hundred percent sure that he did this. Only he is obsessed with bringing me down right now.”Liam frowned. “Noah Hank?”If truly it was Noah Hank who caused this as she just said, Liam wasn't sure that doing anything would be futile at this stage. From what he knows about Noah Hank. He doesn't back down and he has eyes everywhere in the country knowing everything that is going on. Noah Hank was one beast in business and knew it like the back of his palms. Bringing him down might be almost impossible.
Eve’s anger burned over. The room suddenly became twice as cold as usual from the glare that the two parties passed each other. She slammed her hand on the table and rose, her eyes glaring daggers at the girl. “No, you didn’t get deceived. You deceived us and we’re here to have you pay for it.”“Wait.” Genevieve chuckled but there was no hint of amusement on her face. She had a panicked expression as she shook her head from side to side. “You mean that everything was a lie? That you’re not on the same page as me? Yesterday you told me.”“Yeah yeah, I deceived you. But that was little compared to the lie that you told. Unfortunately for you, you’ve been busted. Right there is the proof that you fixed your face to look like my father’s and of course, you have someone behind you, directing you and ordering you around like a fucking puppet.”“I’m not a puppet,” the girl screamed. “I told you I’m not a puppet and you’re lying. I’d never fix my face…”Ella cut her off. “I think it’s high ti
A day later, Ella and Eve parked their car in the same spot that they did the previous day. They both had a veil and thick sunglasses on their eyes and their gazes were fixated on the entrance of the company. “How did you get in yesterday?” Ella couldn’t help but ask about the tight security of the company. “By using the pass father gave me.”“They’re not going to question our attire?”“They won’t. They wouldn’t dare question people sent by their boss. Come on, let’s leave. Is everything ready?”“Never been more ready. Although, yesterday, I almost lost the envelope.”Eve’s eyes widened and her head whipped to Ella. “What? Where is it now?”“Relax,” Ella laughed. “I found it at the bottom of Liam’s passenger’s seat after finding it for minutes. It’s a miracle.” If Liam hadn’t sighted the envelope under her chair and picked it up for her, she wondered what she’d have done considering that the success of the operation lies in it. Eve would’ve nagged her to death. Eve let out a breath
A few minutes later, the girls strode hand in hand into the top floor of Noah’s company. As they drew closer, Adam’s eyes rose from his desk and they widened when they fell on them. “Mrs Hank,” he greeted.“Adam. There is no need to give him a call. He knows.”“Sure, please go in.”As they stepped into the office, their eyes fell on Noah who had his back to them. His right hand was dipped into his pocket and the other held his phone to his ears as he stared down at the city from the floor-to-ceiling window. At the click of the door shutting close, he looked behind him and his lips stretched into a smile at the sight of Eve.“I’ll give you a call when the file is ready,” he spoke into the phone before retracting it from his ear and throwing it to the desk. He sidestepped the table and walked to stand before her. “How was it?” His words were followed with a kiss on her neck that rode up to her cheek and he acknowledged Ella with a nod. “Superb. I told you I’m going to be fine. We suc
“A truce. We’re done being enemies. Why don’t we be friends and work together?”In Genevieve’s moment of shock, Eve sidestepped her and walked to the table, leaning against it with her hands squeezing together under her breast. She picked up the new nameplate on the table and ran her hand through it. “Pink is quite pretty for you, you know.”Her words made the girl snap out of her daze. She stormed toward Eve and snatched the nameplate from her. “I’m quite particular about my belongings. I suggest that you don’t touch anything here.”“Don’t worry. I won’t steal anything. Like I said, I’m here for peace. I want us to reconcile.”“Reconcile? Don’t be daft. You offended me by stealing my identity. I can never be friends with you.”Eve clicked her tongue severally and pushed away from the table, her eyes on Genevieve. “You know, it’s the opposite. Look around you.” She stretched her hands around the office, Genevieve’s eyes following every move. “Just look around. Everything here is mine
Two hours later, their car stopped before the building of the Gray Corporation. Eve wore a face mask on her lower face with a scarf around her hair and turned to Ella who sat behind the wheel. “I’m ready,” she announced. “Great. I’ll be waiting here. You got what we practiced, right?”“One hundred percent.”Simultaneously, their lips curled into a smile and after clapping their hands together in a high-five motion, Eve stepped out of the car. “I’ll be back real quick.”“Good luck, babe.”Eve nodded and continued her journey into the company. As she was about to step into the main building, the security man at the door stood before her. He was way tall and huge and he was a new face in the company. “You are?” He eyed her suspiciously. “Me? Here.” She dipped her hand into her purse and handed him a card. It was a free pass that her father had gotten her to get into the company freely. “I’m Mr Gray’s messenger. I need to deliver something to the CEO.”At the sight of the card, the secu
The dim morning sun seeping from the windows assaulted Ella’s eyes and pulled her from sleep. Her eyelids slowly fluttered open, a small yawn escaping her lips. She tried to raise her head from the slightly uncomfortable position that she was in only to find a strong force holding her down. She gasped when she fully woke from the daze of sleep, realizing that she was not laying her head on her pillow as she’d imagined but in fact, her head was on a hard surface. Liam’s shoulder. The smell of lavender and mint aftershave assaulted her nose and she felt her heart immediately skip a beat as always. She glanced back at his hand that was around her upper back, keeping her close to him with a blue blanket around them. Slowly and gently, she held his hand and pulled it away from herself before retracting her head off his shoulder. Ella grunted at the pounding headache that hit her when her eyes fell on the dozens of beer cans on the table and floor before them, the memories of the previou
After slamming those words to Matthew’s face, Ella got into her car and drove out of the impoverished compound and then the town. By the time she arrived back in the city, it was already night’s time and she made her way to Liam’s apartment. Speaking about Liam. Ella’s eyes fell on her phone on the phone stand beside her in the car. She’d purposely switched it off after she arrived at the town days ago and she knew there would be bunches of calls that she missed. Did he call? She wondered, considering that he never called her except when he needed to ask about Eve. Her week had taken a toll on her and she knew she wasn’t in the right state of mind to think of Liam with other issues that she had. Her mother needed surgery and at least for Jaden’s sake, she needed to provide for her surgery. She wouldn’t want the child to go through something like the death of a parent at such an early age. Finally, she arrived at the garage and parked, a deep sigh escaping her lips. Was she in the
“Why can’t I come with you, big sister? I promise I’ll be good.”Ella looked down at the boy beneath her. He fisted her tailored pants with his small fist and looked up at her in pleading glossy eyes. He was way skinnier than the last time she saw him a few months ago. Her younger brother was barely nine years old yet he had to see how fucked up things were with their family. As she stared at his dark wet eyes, she suddenly had the urge to pull him into her embrace and take him away from the toxic household. Fuck, she wanted to do that more than anything. She wanted to take him away and make sure that he lived a better life than she did. But she was in no good position to have him. She didn’t have a good place or a stable job and her mental health was something else. But one day though. One day. She could still remember when the little boy was born nine years ago. Might she add, out of accident? They neglected him. Their parents. And they didn’t care to give him a name or celebrat
“Noah, where the hell are you taking me,” Eve demanded as he led her away from the garden into the mansion. “Adventure, darling. You’re not tired of socializing yet?”“I’m not. Let go of me. We’re not in a talking situation.”“You’re my wife. You can’t avoid me.”“Where are we even going? It’s someone else’s house.”“Don’t know.”She realized he didn’t know the way around the house when he looked twice before turning in a hallway, his grip on her wrist tightening. She sighed and let him pull her. Well, she was due for an adventure after all, and right, it’s sucked to socialize with old friends and guests that looked at her with cold judgy eyes. She could tell that they had the scandal in mind and they regarded her as a shameless imposter. She’d rather be away from them.“You better don’t get caught and accused of being a spy or a thief.”“Thief?” He chuckled. “I could buy everything in this house for you.”“Yeah yeah, you don’t have to boast about your wealth.”“Shh.” Suddenly, he pu
