Gerald took my phone with a fishy smile and nodded his head sideways. “Ma’am, this is the time when you strike your pose”. I crossed my legs and posed with the class of sparkling wine. Gerald kept giving me thumbs up as a sign to change poses. After a few poses, he handed me my phone. I scrolled through the photos and I was barely satisfied. Gerald was more of a bully than he was with pictures. “What’s that face?”, he asked, sipping wine. I rolled my eyes and ignored him till I deleted the pictures I wasn’t satisfied with. “You are rusty, we need to work on your picture skills too”. I spat without remorse. “Come on!! You don’t expect me to take photography lessons”, he protested seriously. We got to our hotel and my mouth fell open subconsciously. It was a magnificent building. Khalid led the way and spoke Arabic with some men who helped us with our luggage. We got to the reception and it took great control to keep my excitement and enthusiasm in chec
It took almost ten minutes to complete my order. We had no choice but to try out something new. I freshened up and sorted my luggage. I arranged my files and brought out my notepad. It was time to fix Gerald’s schedule. His meeting was scheduled for 10am every day to end at 2pm. This meant that we had many free hours before bedtime. The ding rang and I knew our meal was ready. Before I got to the door, Gerald was there. He rolled the tray in and settled in the dining room. He looked at me and hissed playfully. At first sight, he looked pleased. It was a tray of different meals I wasn’t familiar with. The only familiar food was the grilled lamb. “Can you eat this?” I voiced my fear. Gerald nodded and took a bite. It quickly crossed my mind that he was a frequent traveler in Dubai. “Are you scared?”, he laughed softly. “Try it, it isn’t that bad”. I swallowed the food like it was dried sand but it tasted nice. I didn’t know what it was but I loved how it tasted.
“Gerald, which restaurant should we try?” Kaira asked as we got back to our suite. I dropped my devices on the table and walked to my room without responding to her. I was too tired to speak. I freshened up and slept off. I kept tossing on my bed and I could barely sleep. I woke up and my rumbling stomach informed me that I hadn't filled it with anything but water. Walking out of my room, I met Kaira in the sitting room. She stood up as soon as she saw me. “Why are you standing?”, I asked with a slight frown. “I have been waiting for us”. Her innocence and her sincerity judged my conscience. “Let’s go”, I spilled, walking to the door. Kaira joined me in the elevator and my stomach grumbled loudly. She looked at me softly. “I am Sorry Gerald, I wanted to knock. You haven’t had food all day”. Kaira was the first person that cared for me and I loved it and it felt safe. I have always hated it when people care for me. My heart softened. “It’s
Unknown POV. “You need to get a hold of yourself Guv”, He hissed as he walked to the dispenser for water. “You have to move on like it never happened! You can’t obviously kill yourself for a woman”. I sighed heavily as I puffed out my cigarette. It was hell living without her. I couldn’t remember the last time I was genuinely happy. My life is without purpose and passion without her presence and her love. “I refuse to believe these reports! It cannot end like this”. I groaned. Max laughed. He acted like I spoke in riddles. “Are you dumb? You cannot lose your senses and job all because of a woman who didn’t think twice before walking out of your life”. He held my shoulder and looked at me with pity. “Come off it! There are other women”. His concern sounded like trash and nonsense to me. I took his hand off my shoulder and locked eyes with him. “She is all that makes my life complete! Without her I am useless “. Max was tired and he didn’t need to
Harry’s POV. As soon as I heard the sound of clashing and the noise of car brakes, my heart sank. “Kaira! What is going on there? Where the hell are you? For heaven’s sake say something!”, I kicked the stool in frustration. I kept calling but there was no response. It was like my whole world was falling apart, brick by brick. I called Gerald but he was not answering either. I knew something was off, my skin developed goosebumps. I landed in Dubai last night after all efforts to reach Kaira were unsuccessful. I grew tired of waiting for her to return my calls. My heart yearned for her and it couldn’t concentrate on work. All I had of Kaira was her photos and updates from her trip. I was jealous and I needed to know why she didn’t miss me as much as I missed her. “Was I too harsh? Was I selfish? Did I cause this?”, my mind kept blaming and asking questions. I kept calling Gerald non stop till I got tired of trying. I got outside my hotel and started
Gerald’s POV. It’s been two days and my eyes haven’t dimmed without the last memory of those clashes. How my ice cream fell and how the driver got out of his car after hitting her still laid fresh in my mind. I could barely think about work or anything. Seeing Harrison worry about her was more depressing. I wished it was reversible. Harrison would at every opportunity indirectly blame me for all this. He didn’t have to say it for me to know. “Kaira please, open your eyes “, I whispered as I leaned on the transparent door. Harrison grabbed the doorknob from inside and bashed out in a hurry almost tramping on me. “Where is the doctor?”, he asked a nurse. I was confused as I walked behind him clueless. I kept asking what the matter was but all I got was total silence. As soon as he saw the doctor in charge of her case, Harrison bombarded him with questions. “What the hell is happening? You promised me she would be fine!! Why the hell is she awake but
“Doctor. Mr Khalid recommended you because you are a professional in this field. You have to do something about this and fast”, I spoke for the first time. The doctor took off his glasses and fell back on his seat. “I am sorry Mr Gerald. This is a common occurrence after an accident. Although we weren’t expecting this, it happened ”. I sighed weakly. Harry did a mock laugh and buried his hand in his head. “You mentioned it is temporary. When will it be fixed? We can’t get used to this”, I asked the doctor. “At least you can talk sense now”, Harry whispered. I couldn’t understand why he was suddenly bitter towards me. “Patients with this kind of Amnesia need proper treatment and care”. The doctor looked at Harry and called him. “Mr Harrison sit down”, he requested politely. “Why? Is that part of your job to tell me what to do?”, he fired back immediately. “Stop being difficult! Sit down! We are all here to help Kaira! Stop acting like the whole world is
My conscience was awakened by her concern. It felt nice and peaceful around her, just like I always felt around my aunt. I battled with my eyelids before words left my mouth. “My girlfriend had an accident and she can’t remember me. It’s so painful to see her going through so much pain and trauma. I wish I had stopped her from traveling down here”. I held back myself in my palms. I kept the knocks in a fist to suppress the pressure to cry. Surprisingly, she touched my fist. “Let it go child”. Just like an instant response, my hand listened. “I am sorry about what happened to her. I understand how difficult it is for you “, she sighed heavily. I chuckled tiredly as I heard her talk. I didn’t need her pity but I was too careful not to hurt her feelings. “Three months ago, I also got a call from the hospital that my daughter was rushed here by her neighbors. I came and I almost couldn’t recognize her. She had tubes all over”, she sighed. I looked
“Can’t you do anything?” Mira wiped her eyes as she watched Gerald escorted by the wardens into prison. Harry squeezed her hand and sighed heavily. “He made his choice, he struck a deal in court and I hate how helpless I am”. His voice, filled with pain as he watched his brother out of sight. “It is funny” Mira laughed bitterly. “You always have someone who you share your day and wins with. Somebody who is willing to listen and make you feel better”. She sobbed softly. “You don’t realize how much they mean to you till the day they leave you”. Mira’s word struck Harry to the bones. He looks at space and memories of Elizabeth filled his mind. “Mira, I need to go” he announced, running back to his car. Mira stood outside the prison’s facility till Craig showed up. “How is he?” She asked him curiously. “He is fine. He asked me to give you this”. Craig handed Gerald’s bracelet to her before walking to his car. She held it closely to
Rubby hung her hand around me and hugged me tightly. “I am sorry”. She sniffed in my arms. I looked at my mom, she had a pity face on. I signaled her to come over. She rushed to us and we shared a group hug. “Baby” she hugged me and wept softly as we refrained. “Gerald plead guilty” I said coldly. “He already won but He stood up for me and….” I broke down in her arms. “Shhhh. I am here” my mom stroked my hair and it felt comfortable and peaceful. “I thought I wanted him to suffer, but now I can’t bear to see him being put away”. I cried loudly. “He still loves you, Mira” Rubby said dryly. I raised my head and looked at her. “Yes. I have seen how miserable he looked this few days and he still loves you”. She nodded at me. My eyes poured more tears down my face. “I… I don’t know what to do”. I confessed in tears. “Baby, has 46 hours left. Talk to him once. You will feel better”. She assured me. My mom was right
“Mira, you wanted him to suffer, so this is just revenge for you?” He asked. “Yes! You are right. It is revenge for everything he did to me. He abused me and….”. “Is there a report of this allegation?” Craig interrupted her again. Mira was speechless, she opened her mouth and there were no words, just tears. Gerald battled with my grip on him. His hands were shaking. “Did you make or file a report?” Craig asked again. “No but…Harry….” “Oh you mean his brother you were sleeping with also abused you?” Craig blocked her words before it even left her mouth. “Enough! Stop! Stop!” Gerald stood up and yelled. He walked towards the stand and pushed Craig. “Stop. Enough of this madness”. He yelled. “Mr Lead, return to your seat”. The judge commanded. “No, I will not”. Gerald responded. “He has gone mad,” I whispered. “Your honor, isn’t this obvious. My client is in love with the same woman who is bent on ruining h
My sitting room became a mini courtroom. It was the second time Harry was preparing me for the stand. “Harry, I got this” I sighed weakly. Harry looked at me and walked towards me like he was about to punch me. “No you don’t, till I feel you are ready, you are not ready”. I swallowed my pride. “The trial is in twelve hours and Naira has never lost a case and she is a blood hungry woman. She won’t rest till she breaks you on the stand! Got it?”. I nodded and took the stand again. Harry went over possible scenarios and prepared me for my response. “Harry, Naira doesn’t have witnesses”. Craig walked up to him. “Does that mean that she bluffed?” He asked. Craig pulled him aside and from the look on their faces, my guts knew something was wrong. “What?” I asked, getting off the mock stand. “Mira is the only witness she has”. Harry said weakly. I fell on the couch with a headache. “This means she will testify against him no matter what w
Harry’s POV. As soon as I heard their plot, I spoke up. I have been standing for the past two minutes and none of them could tell. They were all filled with range and revenge. “Harry” Craig walked forward but I pushed him out of my way. I went to Gerald and he looked away. “I told you not to do anything! What are you thinking?” I fired at him. “He just lost his company to a woman and you are here beating him for trying to stand for himself” Rubby hissed. “I knew you would be here. A snake trying to get an opportunity to strike! Aren’t you ashamed? Do you have a conscience?” I yelled at her. She looked away and sat down shamelessly. “This is your sister who you never cared about, at first glance you married her husband and now you are here to do what?” I lashed out at her. Craig looked lost and confused. “This is all a means for you to get Gerald, but I will not allow your selfish nature to tear my family apart!”. Rubby looked at me and bat
Gerald’s POV. Nothing prepared me for the moment I saw Mira in her office sipping coffee. I thought I was prepared but I wasn’t. She looked pale and I couldn’t help but notice her eye bags. “Boss”, Craig opened the door and I walked in. At first glance, my heart sank. I hated the feelings I was getting. The urge to walk forward and hug her. “You don’t have an appointment”, she fired at Craig. Craig laughed and took a seat in front of her. I stood by the door, unable to move an inch. I missed her. “My client and I have a settlement offer for you”. Craig presented a settlement document he suggested would cease the fire before it even started. He signaled me and I walked forward and sat next to him. She picked the document and looked at me. “Really?” She smiled coldly. Her smile frightened me. She slipped through the pages and her facial expression changed. “You can’t depose me as CEO ” she said aggressively.
Flashback. I stood under the drizzling rain with a coat as I waited patiently for Craig. He was my trump card to get through Gerald. “Hey”, I walked after him as he walked out of his apartment in gym clothes. “What?” He blasted at me without slowing down. “Can you be polite”, I almost lost my patience. He paused, turned around and raised a brow at me. “I am not your lawyer and I have no intention of becoming one. Even if I loose my job, you can’t afford me”. He was a proud asshole and I felt like walking out on him but I couldn’t. I needed him. “This is not about me. It is about your client, your money bank, without him you would still be an associate in a law clinic”. I fired back. He looked around and walked closer to me. “What do you want?” He lowered his voice and adjusted his tone. “You saw the news. Your client’s wife reappeared after two years and that means trouble”. Craig looked at me like he had no choice. “Follow me”.
Rubby’s POV. I came back from the gym to meet my parents standing in front of the tv like they have seen a ghost. “Mom?” I walked closer and caught a glimpse of the screen. “Abj’s new CEO reveals her true identity. Mira Greg”. I cleaned my eyes to make sure I was seeing properly. Like a wind, it struck me. “I have waited for this, sister”. “What in Free city is this manipulation”. I yelled. “Mom, she is Mira”. I almost lost balance. My mom was motionless. She looked lost as tears rolled down her face. Dad couldn’t lift his face. He walked back upstairs slowly. It all made sense at once. “It was all a plot. She never lost her memory. She sneaked her way in through pity”. I muttered in spite. “Gerald. She manipulated his feelings….. I must warn him”. “Rubby, he is aware” my mom’s voice stopped me halfway. “What?” I turned back and she nodded. “He was at the board meeting when she revealed her identity. She revealed he
Kaira’s POV. “I am Mira Greg, the daughter of the founder Abj venture. The wife of Gerald Lead. And it is a pleasure to be back home”. The board members stood up and clapped. It was the first time I ever I had the urge to breakdown in public. My heart was satisfied and my eyes shared tears of joy and fulfillment. Clara walked forward and hugged me. “You are a strong woman and I am proud of you “. She wiped the tear that escaped from her eyes. I hugged her back and it felt good. The clapping and cheering of the board members increased. It was my moment and I enjoyed every bit of it. “Mira, you are a great woman. Welcome” Mr Khoki tapped my shoulder. I got the the sympathy and respect of my board members and it was going to be a new dispensation. One at a time, the congratulated me and exited the board room. It was time to face my husband. We stood at the ends of the table in an empty board room. I had no words, my heart was rai
