I gasped.
His words are like bombshells and I actually pinched myself to make sure I'm not dreaming.
D- Divorce?
“B- But…” I stammered, suddenly losing the ability to speak.
I don't understand his words.
Maybe I do, but I can't bring myself to digest them.
“I know, our contract is supposed to end in three months,” Raymond continued, his tone dry.
It's as if he couldn't wait to tell me this.
As if he has come right here after waking up to lift this load off his shoulder.
Did I do something wrong?
Did I fail in pleasing him?
Why does he want a divorce all of a sudden?
As I grappled with confusion, Raymond reached out and patted my hair.
It's as if he can read my mind. “You've done a good job. In fact, I'll double your pay. Get ready. We'll meet Grandpa later. Remember our initial plan.”
Our plan is to divorce after the contract ends.
I'll tell his grandfather that I can no longer be with him, and Raymond will happily release me.
No- I can't.
I grabbed his hands, almost instinctively as he's about to stand up.
Raymond stares at me, confusion swirling in his eyes for a second. And then, his expression relaxed.
“I've almost forgotten. You wanted to tell me something.”
I gulped.
He has just proposed a divorce.
How can I have the courage to tell him about my pregnancy?
Will his reaction be anger or disappointment? Or will he take back his words?
I gathered my resolve, not letting the devastation consume me.
Right now, I feel like breaking down. Just hearing the word ‘Divorce’ has my heart sinking in despair.
I can't live without him.
“Raymond, I'm-”
“Good morning, My Love.” Someone barged in, interrupting my words.
Sitting in a wheelchair, the lady entered my room, her face shining with a radiant smile.
It's not the way she addressed Raymond that astonishes me only.
It's the lady herself.
Cassie?
I can't believe my eyes. What's my sister doing here?
Why did she call him ‘My Love’ when-
“How did you get here?” Raymond seemed surprised as well.
His actions were gentle as he carefully held the back of Cassie’s wheelchair.
How did she end up in a wheelchair?
I'm not seeing things, am I?
My sister disappeared three years ago without a trace.
How can she suddenly appear in my home and address my husband as her love?
“The driver brought me,” Cassie answered his question all while staring at me. “I couldn't wait to see you, Ray. Have you told Blair about it?”
Raymond looked hesitant.
What's he supposed to tell me?
“It's okay, I'll do it.” Cassie smiled sweetly. “I've missed my sister anyway. And we have a lot of catch-ups to do.”
“Mm. I'll make breakfast,” Raymond replied.
“Please make my favorite.” Cassie leaned forward and pecked him on the lips, right before my eyes.
I staggered, already on my feet.
What's happening?
Seeing him behaving so intimately with my sister, my heart can't help but break into pieces.
I just hope it's not what I'm thinking.
“I can see all the questions in your eyes…” Cassie wheeled her chair forward after Raymond left the room.
Maintaining eye contact with me, her tone dripped with mockery as she scoffed. “I'll cut to the chase. Raymond married you because I asked him to. I wasn't ready to settle down yet when his grandfather threatened him with the CEO's position. Well now that I'm back, you may leave, Blair.”
Hearing Cassie's revelation, I can't hide my shock.
I shook my head, unable to believe it.
Cassie must be pulling my legs. She loves pranking me after all.
How can she and Raymond be in a relationship without me knowing?
“Oh, you're so naive.” Cassie chuckled. “You actually don't think Raymond will keep you forever, do you?”
But, why?
All these years, I've been thinking Raymond found me on his own.
I thought he proposed the contract marriage purposely.
I thought he had an inkling about my feelings that's why he chose me.
If I'd known that Cassie orchestrated all this, would I have agreed?
“You could have asked him to have a contract marriage with someone else.” Anger built up in my chest, my tone as cold as ice. “Why me? Cassie, you always knew that-”
“You love Ray, I know.” Cassie smiled. “How does it feel to have something valuable snatched from you? I wanted you to experience what it feels like to be with Ray, and then have you lose him. It does hurt, right?”
Right.
It hurt like hell!
Of all the afflictions Cassie has inflicted on me, this is the most painful.
She has known right from the start that I'm in love with Raymond.
How can she be so cruel?
“How can you be so stupid?” Cassie rolled her eyes. “You really think I'll let you have what you want? Remember how you snatched my mother from me.”
Her voice went a pitch higher, her eyes flashing with the same hate she has always had for me. “Raymond will do nothing with a filthy girl like you. Your fantasy ends here, Blair. Start packing up.”
I stood still.
The more I witness this side of my sister, the more confused I become.
How can she be so heartless?
Just because our Mum left her Dad and married my Dad, Cassie has been hating me ever since we first met.
Instead of being my big sister, she made my life hell.
During high school and college, she'd always gang up with her group of friends to bully me.
She hates me to the core, and along the line, I stopped trying to make things work.
“And oh, for your information.” Cassie paused as she turned the wheelchair towards the door. “Haven't you guessed who caused Uncle Greg's accident three years ago?”
Three years ago, my father was hit by a truck on his way back from the construction site.
He fell into a coma and the hospital requested a huge amount of money to keep him on life support.
Coincidentally, not long after that, Raymond approached me with the contract.
No way!
Is this one of Cassie's pranks? She's definitely pulling my legs. She'll never-“What better way to make you fall into my trap easily?” Cassie shrugged. “You needed the money and the contract came in handy.”“No! You didn't!” Anger surged through my veins.I shot forward and grabbed her. “Cassie, why!?”I can't help the tears that burst out, thinking back to those days full of horror and fear. I'd literally begged her for money. I knelt in front of her family's home all night, but neither Cassie nor her father were willing to offer a penny for help. Imagine my happiness when Raymond stepped in instead and offered the contract. I've always regarded him as my father's savior. Was he part of this plan? I lost control of my emotions and shook her. “You're a crazy maniac! I can't believe Mum is your real mother.”Our mother was so kind and compassionate. No way she would have given birth to this monster! What if my Dad had died that day? All because of her stupid revenge plan, she'd
…~RAYMOND~Damnit! Did I mess up?I wiped my face in frustration as I chugged down my final glass of beer. Blair confessed that she loves me. I can't believe it. I haven't been myself ever since she said those words, ‘I love you.’She doesn’t mean them, does she? What am I even doing here when I should be searching for her? It has been three days and she hasn't returned.Ever since she left that morning, she never showed up again. I can't reach her on the phone because she left it at home.Maybe I shouldn't have said those words. But seeing what she did to Cassie, I completely lost it. Cassie has suffered a lot. Blair has always made her life difficult, yet, she does her best to please her. I can't fathom how a sibling will hate the other so much. “Dude, you haven't answered my question.” Daryl snapped his fingers, breaking me out of my thoughts. “What's beating you up? Damn, you look out of it.”Music boomed from the ground floor, dimming some of his words.I've come to the
…~BLAIR~I shouldn't have. This is probably a mistake I'll regret forever.I shouldn't have told him my true feelings. I should have known that they're all the same.Cassie, Raymond, and everyone else in their circle. Maybe Raymond is well aware of Cassie's plan. Cassie is the mastermind and he has helped her play it out perfectly.“Stop looking at those. It sucks to see you sulking over a man,” Jeff scoffed. “You won't let this dinner go to waste, will you?”I sighed.Do I even have the appetite? Maybe Cassie is right. Maybe this heartbreak will kill me. “What's the progress? Have they found the evidence?” I changed the topic, putting the photos aside. I know it's Cassie's doing. She won't leave me alone and keeps sending me photos of her and Raymond.Jeff shook his head. “You're sure Cassie's the one behind it? Maybe she was only bluffing.”I know my sister.Cassie was so serious when she revealed that she caused my father's accident. She meant the things she said.“I need to
The man's expression shifted from disbelief to hate. He looked as if he would murder me on the spot.“What's with the gloomy face?” His Grandfather butted in, staring at him with a frown. “Isn't that what you came to tell me?”Raymond’s dark expression transformed into normal. It was obviously difficult for him to pretend to be happy as he constantly sent secret glares in my direction. He sat down beside the old man as well and murmured, “Blair and I haven't thought it over yet. We'll discuss and-”“If you haven't thought it over, why come to me?” Grandpa George cut him off, giving him an incredulous look. “Or is it that you're here for something else?”His Grandfather probably has guessed what brought us.It must be why the old man looked wary when we came in. He didn't allow Raymond to speak further. Turning to me, he took my hands. “That's very thoughtful of you, Dear. You see, I've been lonely for so long. It's better you move in here and give birth to my great-grandkids while
I stiffened up, my hand hanging mid-air as it reached out to touch the school uniform. Hearing Raymond's words and his accusation, my fingers slowly curled into fists. Planning?“If anyone was planning something, it's you and Cassie.” I turned around, staring at him with the same intensity of hate.Just because I've kept my anger in doesn't mean I don't desire to let it out. It still puzzles me that he'd have the heart to play Cassie's games. “You are nothing but an ingrate!” Raymond scoffed. “If I had a little sister like you, I would have long disowned you. But Cassie never minded, and now, you're trying to destroy her happiness.”I smiled despite the bitterness caused by his words.I'm not the one to back down from an argument easily. He thinks he can gaslight me. He thinks he can make me go back on my revenge plan.“For your information, Mr. Reece.” I stepped forward, craning my neck to get a proper view of his face so that our eyes met. “I'm as shameless as you guys are when
After Raymond left, the whole place sank into silence before the snickers continued. “Typical poor girl latching onto a rich man.”“It seems the Young Master isn't in love with her.”“What a pity. She thinks she'll become the future matriarch.”“Matriarch my foot. She must work hard first to keep her position as Mrs. Reece.”I glared in the ladies’ direction, but it didn't stop them from gossiping.Grandpa George watched Raymond's back with a look of displeasure flashing in his eyes. He then turned to me. “Don't mind him. He's mad because Grandpa scolded him for you last night.” That, I thought.Well, Raymond isn't only mad because of Grandpa George scolding him.He hates me, and I know. Staring at my food blankly, I suddenly lost the appetite to eat. The sight of the boiled crab alone had my stomach churning, causing me to lose balance. I sprang to my feet, my eyes darting around for the nearest washroom.“Ha! Can't bear the humiliation, Mrs. Matriarch?”“I bet she's gone to be
Cassie glared at me, and I glared back. For a moment, I have the feeling that I shouldn't involve myself in their love drama. After all, Cassie and Raymond love each other while I'm the third wheel. But if I don't teach my sister a lesson this way, will she stop bothering my life?Who knows, she might do something worse to me in the future.“You're only wasting your time.” She smirked, moving her wheelchair forward. “Raymond will never look at you, he has said it himself. Didn't you hear?”Well, I didn't specifically hear that, but it is evident from the way he rejected me.Sighing inside, my palm subconsciously wandered to my belly before I quickly dropped it.Is this revenge worth it?I keep asking myself the same question. I could go away, tend to my heartbreak, and focus on taking care of myself and my baby. I would be saved from the emotional damage of witnessing Raymond shower his love on my sister. However, when I set my mind to something, I don't listen to even myself. Smi
Blair’s POVFor a moment, I thought he was faking it in order to get me to leave the room. But an adult couldn't possibly play that silly game, right?“Ray! Raymond!” I called out to him, shaking his heavy frame. He didn't move. Dread settled in my stomach, and my fingers trembled, the sight of the unconscious man making me imagine horrible scenarios in my head.Has he been sick?If not, why would he faint out of nowhere? Sprinkling water on his face didn't work to wake him up. My loud screams alone has alerted all the servants nearby. The bodyguards came and took him to the car. The whole mansion was in chaos when everyone heard about it. “Are you sure you didn't notice anything strange with him?” Grandpa George took me to a corner and asked while we paced in the hospital’s emergency room’s hallway.“Strangely, I didn't, Grandpa.” Wiping my tears, I shook my head. No, I'm not faking it. The thought of Raymond lying there with his condition unknown is devastating. Surely, he's
Still sitting in the bed with my back on the headboard, Raymond returned to the room. I frowned my face so he wouldn't even have the opportunity to start another fight. “Blair, I've gotten the result of the face mask I took to the lab to be examined." I ignored him. “The result showed that some substance was spread there, which made you lose consciousness.”Now he believed? What nonsense. I don't even care anymore, he can decide to do whatever he wants or say what comes to his mind. "I'm so sorry, I misunderstood you. I should have known that…”Who cares?Pffff!“Let’s have your bruises checked by the doctor, okay? He's downstairs waiting for you.”" I ain't leaving this room, I don't even want to see a doctor.”I managed to get up from the bed and head to the bathroom. But before I could enter, Raymond grabbed my wrist. "Come on, Blair.” He sounded so hopeless. Raymond wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tight. " I'm sorry, okay?”" Go apologize to Jeff first.” " Jeff?
BLAIR'S POV“I'm sorry, Ms. Blair, I didn't know something like that would happen, I wouldn't have left you there all alone."This is the third time the maid has said that since she brought me breakfast. It's not her fault, what is bound to happen will happen no matter what. Even if she stayed behind, they would have injured her or, worse, killed her there. I am glad she wasn't present in the room at that time, and I'm grateful that she handled my grandfather's funeral on my behalf. Not everyone can do that, but she took the risk to help me. “It's okay. And thank you for helping me." She passed me my vitamins. “I also heard Raymond locked you and the P. A. up in the prison, right?" She nodded her head. “I'm sorry about that too, it was all because of me." I felt so bad when I was told about it. Raymond acted out of shock, but he shouldn't have done that. He could have investigated them one-on-one instead of doing that. And they wouldn't even do something as terrible as tha
RAYMOND'S POVThroughout the entire night, I couldn't sleep properly. The thought of Blair being with another man who isn't me still disturbed my peace. I've come to like her, to love her, but she's trying to slip away from me just when I've started developing feelings for her. How could she go to that length, to leave the funeral just to go see Jeff? What is wrong with her?Didn't she claim she loved me?Why the sudden change of mind?Did she confess to me because Cassie was there? Maybe she just wanted me to send Cassie away from my life, then she'll make me fall for her, and then betray me.Blair surprised me yesterday, I will never forget that. Although I'm upset with her, I can't be angry with my baby, right?I'm sure she didn't eat anything yesterday because I locked the door and took the keys away. Since she's bent on seeing Jeff, then I can't let her leave the house anymore. The company can be run by another person, maybe Cassie. “Mr. Raymond." I took the keys from th
BLAIR'S POV “Dump her at the Amusement park."Those words still ring in my ears as if they were just said now.Cassie thought I was dead after torturing my life. She didn't even care that the baby I was carrying could get hurt.Who am I even kidding? That is what she wants. This is so painful,My own sister wants me dead?Just for worldly things? Can't Cassie just see that everything that's happening isn't my fault?“Stop crying, Blair, you should consider your condition." Jeff handed me a glass of water and then sat next to me.I am so grateful for him, for saving my life and bringing me to his home to take care of me.If Jeff hadn't shown up at the park, some people might have taken me away again. I knew everything that was happening, from the instructions Cassie gave to the guys, her phone calls, and when they dumped me at the park. I pretended I was dead just so she wouldn't kill me entirely.“This is so harsh, Jeff. Cassie could have killed me." Jeff sighed deeply, holding
CASSIE'S POV“Miss Cassie, she's not breathing." I turned to the sofa where Blair was lying, and an evil smile formed on my face. She's not breathing? Then that's final. This is exactly what I want, to make sure she's dead. And now that I've tortured her to death, then I can't keep her here anymore. Who knows Raymond would dare call me to enquire about Blair?Did he see me at the funeral home? No, I don't think so. The way I disguised myself, Raymond wouldn't have even found out it was me. Or does he already know that I am after Blair's life?Even when those ladies confessed I was the one who sent them to the hospital, Raymond didn't believe them.I'm sure he still doesn't believe I'll do anything to hurt Blair; he's asking because she is my sister.Well, not anymore. Blair is gone, and Raymond is now for Cassie alone.“What should we do with her body?" I hesitated for a while, thinking of what to do about it.I can't let them dump her in a secluded place, it has to be where
RAYMOND'S POVI've been watching the lady standing at the altar, giving a speech for over ten minutes now, but she doesn't look anything close to Blair. The way she walks, the way she speaks, and the way her hair is arranged isn't like Blair's. She's wearing Blair's dress, and her face is covered with the nose mask I sent over to Blair, but she doesn't look like her. Where is Blair? What has happened to her?I can't sit here for long while someone is pretending to be her. But if I stand up now, people will turn their eyes on me, they'll say I don't respect the deceased. I waited for a few minutes, and when the lady finally left the altar, I stood up from my chair, grabbed her hand in front of everyone, and left the hall with her. I don't care what they say; I know what I am doing. If it was Blair, she would have started arguing with me the moment I grabbed her hand inside. She'll say I am embarrassing her, but this lady isn't saying a word which is obvious she's not Blair. I r
Opening my eyes slowly, my head aches so much that I couldn't even blink properly. And as soon as my vision became clear, Cassie came into view.I knew it was her by her voice. So she hasn't left the city? And no one could locate her? What on earth is Cassie trying to do now?“See who is finally awake."She let out an evil laugh, lowered herself in front of me, and splashed a cup of water on my face. “Cassie!" I screamed her name. “Oh, so you still have this much energy? I thought you'd lost them completely. I know what to do." She stood on her feet, gestured to one of the guys in the room and she was handed a mini box. Cassie opened it, dipped two of her fingers in it, fetched a white substance, and then blew them on my face. Immediately, the powder hit my nostrils; I started feeling the same thing I felt when I put on the face mask. It wasn't Raymond who did it, it was Cassie. She gave that to my maid, and the lady gave it to me. She didn't run away after what she had don
What on earth was this face mask made of?The scent it's releasing is so funny, I've never sniffed it before. “Here's the water, ma'am." My vision starts to blur, but I think it's because I haven't taken my vitamins. After taking the medication, I decided to rest in the waiting room before the funeral procession began. But the more relaxed my body is, the more dizzy I become. “Are you okay, Ma'am?" My maid sounds so worried, but I can't let her know what I'm feeling.Raymond will take me away and I can't miss my grandpa's funeral.I am the only family left, Cassie isn't here. “I'm fine." I forced a smile, closing my eyes. Oh Lord, do not let anything happen to me, please; I have to be here till the end.I thought after resting for a while, everything would be back to normal. But I can't feel my legs now and it's time for the funeral. “Ma'am, I have to go get Mr. Raymond, you can't leave like this. You are going to pass out anytime." My maid held my hand, wiping the sweat o
It has been a week since Grandpa passed away, and while we are preparing for his funeral, Cassie is nowhere to be found. I've sent security across the city to find her, but none of them could bring any information about her. Cassie ran away with all the money in the house. However, that isn't the problem. No one's after the money she ran away with, I just want her to be present so we'll bury our grandpa together. Maybe if I were in her shoes, I would have done the same thing she did. Grandpa didn't leave anything in her name, which isn't good at all. But who am I to argue with the deceased? He knew what was best to do. Cassie is my sister, and since everything is now in my name, I want to run the company with her. However, a part of me doesn't want to do that. Cassie might turn against me and worse, she might use the opportunity to get rid of me. “Ms. Blair? Mr. Raymond Reece is here." Grandpa's P. A., who is now my personal Assistant, announced. Raymond came?I thought he
