Third Person's POV:
Maryam didn't dare make a sound when she got into the car. Abdullah moved into the driver's seat and looked like he was about to murder someone. The spot of blood at the end of his mouth was still there and for some reason, Maryam felt that it was her fault.
But it was okay. No one told him to save her if he didn't want to. Yes, she was grateful to him that he did what he did but if he was going to blame her for it, then she didn't need to be sorry. Surprisingly, he didn't.
He started the car without a sound and began driving. Maryam clutched her seat belt as he drove fast, pressing on the accelerator to go even faster. The roaring of the engine was the only sound that filled the silence between them.
"Dammit!" Abdullah finally cursed, hitting the steering wheel with one hand. He swore a bit more before looking at her. "If that a****** does anything to you again,
Third Person's POV:If Maryam had the chance to murder someone and not be punished for it, then she would definitely choose Adam. It was a big thing to say since she had Shehroz and Abdullah as a good option too. But, over the past few days, she felt like Abdullah wasn't so bad after all.He wasn't the perfect husband but it seemed like he was trying a little to. Though it wasn't enough, it was better than nothing. He would drop her off and pick her up from school whenever he got the time and the other day, he actually treated her to ice-cream.Despite that, both of them rarely talked. Their conversations mostly consisted of; "How was your day?" or, "Did you like dinner?" or Abdullah would usually ask, "Did that Adam guy do anything else?"Of course, Maryam didn't tell him that she had yelled at him and humiliated him in front of his friends and a few other students that were at the scene. And she di
Third Person's POV"Dinner is served, Mistress." With her gaze on the ground and her head bend down with respect, the young lady in a maid's uniform stood at the door of Cornelia's room. She didn't dare move her gaze from the floor and waited for Cornelia's response."I'm coming!" Cornelia's tone was cheerful the way it had been for the last few hours. Even though Maryam was still furious at her for sending her very private 0.b: Abdullah, she was still excited to have dinner with her and her family."My mom's going to love you!" Cornelia remarked as both of them walked downstairs to the dining hall. Maryam nodded, a bit unsure. "Does she know I'm here?"Cornelia nodded. "Duh! I told her the moment you agreed to stay over. She was at her boutique so she couldn't greet you but told me especially to bring you to dinner." she explained to me while pushing the big door of the hall open. The door ope
Third Person's POV:The next morning when Maryam said goodbye to Cornelia and reached home around 9 o clock, she felt extremely anxious as she entered through the big door held open for her by a butler. "Good Morning, Ma'am." he greeted her which she didn't hear as her mind was so occupied. She didn't feel anything around her and her senses were not working. The only thing she was worried about was the pictures. Abdullah had seen them. He had replied as well. But what was his reaction? As she passed the exquisite, expensive decoration pieces hung at the walls, she ran into a table with a big vase on it. The noise of the glass rocking back and forth due to the impact shook her out of her thoughts and she quickly took it and balanced it.She turned around on her feet with a relieved look that she didn't break it. Allah knew how expensive it was. As soon as she looked up, she was me
Third Person's POV:It suddenly hit Abdullah what he had done. When he saw the look of anger, hurt, and disbelief on Maryam's face, he took a step backward. "I-uh..." When he stuttered, Noor shot him a glance that reminded him that he had to be ruthless. But, the guilt he felt was too much that he couldn't quickly cover it up."I'm leaving. If you called me just to give me this present of humiliation, then I think this is enough for today." Though the tears collecting at the brim of her eyes threatened to fall, Maryam kept up a tough face. She turned around to leave before Noor or Abdullah could see her weakness."You deserved it, Maryam." Noor was quick to speak which made her stop in her tracks. "Noor, I swear if you say another word, I won't be able to tolerate it," she warned her, her voice breaking. She wanted to yell at them, curse them, hit them, and show them that she wasn't a weakling. But, she felt scared.
Third Person's POV:Cornelia slammed her hands on the table, startling Maryam. Her eyes were burning red and she gritted her teeth like she would explode. "He hit you?!" she almost yelled out. Maryam shushed her because everyone in the parlor was looking at them.Cornelia sat back down on her seat and cleared her throat, calming down a little. "Your husband is so dead, Maryam." she sounded very dangerous. "How dare he do that to you? I won't ever forgive him for this. I'll talk to dad to—" but she was interrupted by Maryam who had wiped her tears with her sleeve and wasn't crying anymore."Let it be, Corn. I don't want Mr. Wilson or anyone else to get dragged into this," she said with a poker face, looking into her cup of ice cream. She took a bite and savored the sweet flavor that flooded into her mouth. "Let's enjoy this ice cream and forget about that jerk," she told Cornelia who wasn't ready to accept defeat at
Third Person's POV:It was a dark room in a dark building that was almost going to drop. The upper two portions had already fallen, creating huge rubble surrounding the building. It was the perfect place to hide—or should I say; to hide someone. It was nighttime. A broken clock inside the dull room with nothing but a pole and a few drums of Allah knew what, repeatedly struck 9 o clock as it was broken. The moon was high in the sky and shining very brightly. It was a soundless night. But, the soundlessness carried a huge weight of restlessness and uneasiness. There was a small window in the room through which the moonlight seeped in.The shuffling of Maryam's long skirt was heard when she shifted with discomfort in her position, still unconscious. Slowly, her eyes opened and she tried to adjust her sight to the dark and gloom that surrounded her.It struck her a moment later that she wasn't in a
Third Person's POV:A groan of pain left Maryam as she collapsed to the ground, crawling into herself. She coughed blood and felt like she would throw up. Her eyes had been shut due to the agony but she managed to open one eye to see what the two men intended to do after that."Wasn't a very good idea to escape, butterfly." the nickname irritated her and she swore at Ivan in her mind, unable to be vocal about it. He came forward and picked her up and she couldn't resist. He threw her back at the pole and John proceeded to take the fallen handcuffs to tie her hands again."Let me go. Please..." she formed a weak sentence, taking her chance to make them feel sorry for her. It was of no use because John didn't stop. He picked the handcuffs and took her hands forcefully, pulling them behind the pole.Tears filled her eyes again and started falling vigorously but she tried to hold them in to show them a b
Third Person's POV:Maybe the only thing bad about David Wilson going to jail was Cornelia's grief. No matter how many times Maryam texted her or called her, she would get no response. She wasn't even reading her messages. Maryam could just imagine what she was going through. When she got out of bed, thinking hard about what Abdullah said to her before leaving, she quickly made for her room. The moment she got up, her stomach ache rose again, making her wince in pain and let out a groan. It took her a minute to adjust her weight and balance herself. Then, she started walking but as soon as she exited Abdullah's room, she was met by three maids waiting for her, standing outside like guards. With a frown, she looked at three of them, studying their appearance. There were two brunettes and one blonde and all three of them wore long brown and skin-colored maid uniforms. They acknowledge
——Third Person's POV——The allegations against Abdullah had been proven in court. Noor, who was as pale as a flower in winter at the news, did not expect her recording to be played in front of all the people there. She was even more horrified when the judge announced her a fine of 500 dollars and two months in jail with hard labor as punishment for drugging someone without consent and lying in court, along with causing problems in other people's personal lives. She had cursed at Maryam aloud in the court but got quiet when the judge warned her about increasing the penalty. To say that Maryam was happy would be a lie because, in the end, she didn't get anyone. Not Abdullah, not Damian, and not a precious best friend while Maryam got everything by the grace of Allah.Abdullah and Maryam walked out of the court with bright faces and hands entwined. Abdullah, with his hair, pulled back and the blue tux looked more handsome without the firm and cold shine in his eyes. He
——Third Person's POV——The air between Maryam and Abdullah was much lighter after the call was cut. However, Maryam was dumbstruck in her place but more relieved. It felt as if her tightened muscles had relaxed and the mounting headache had just been cured. She trailed her eyes from the phone to Abdullah."I... Don't believe it." she croaked. But, Abdullah shook his head and replied, "I do.""Who knew she would go this far just to get back at me? It's scary." there was silence for a while when Abdullah spoke up, putting his hand over hers again. "Does that mean you're convinced? That you'll come back to me?" his voice sounded desperate which pierced Maryam's heart with guilt. She was starting to feel regret. Even though he wasn't very trustworthy, she didn't let him say a word in his defense. Then, what was the difference between what he did to her and her actions? She slowly looked up. "I...Abdullah... I don't know what to say. I feel ashamed." she put her
——Maryam's POV——One day was left until the final decision of the court. I was having breakfast when the thought occurred to me and suddenly started to feel anxious. My pace slowed down and a million thoughts were rushing through my head. Not to mention Abdullah's handsome face popping up again and again. I remembered his last words clearly like crystal and couldn't shake them off. He had looked so sincere and honest. Maybe even more than the time he asked me to start over and it was the main reason I was starting to waver. "Why aren't you eating, Maryam dear?" Mrs. Wilson asked, nearly making me jump. My head snapped towards her and I quickly replied, "Oh! Nothing. I was just thinking about something." David Wilson was right in front of me, on his high and mighty chair. I felt him looking at me seriously as he pushed another morsel into his mouth. I couldn't ignore his dark eyes and finally glanced at him once. As soon as I did that, he smiled and switc
——Maryam's POV——It felt almost forever since I had last breathed a sigh of relief. The constant pressure of being in someone else's house and being a burden on them was massive and it didn't help when you had your own problems to deal with. Cornelia had always assured me that I wasn't a burden but I wasn't dumb not to read expressions. The next court hearing was only two days away and I was feeling the nervousness already. My lawyer had contacted me with all the necessary files regarding the assets and things seemed to be well in place. I was as good as divorced and it was NOT a good feeling."Come on! I'm starving!" Cornelia exclaimed, shaking me out of my thoughts. I was brought back to reality when my eyes fell on the empty plate in front of me. My eyes then traveled to Cornelia and then to Damian who was busy with his phone, sitting right next to his sister."Why won't our order come?" Cornelia groaned again for the hundredth time, with her hand under her c
——Third Person's POV——The silence in the courtroom was heavy, almost as if a murder had taken place. The few number of people sitting in the background looked at each other with confused and curious expressions. The big stage set up for the family court judge was standing in all its glory and fame. A small desk was placed right beside it for the assistant.A small bench stood in front of the stage with its back facing the crowd where Maryam's lawyer, Mr. Javed sat in his traditional black and white tux under a black cloak. When Abdullah entered the courtroom, people started whispering and hissing amongst each other except Maryam. She stared intensely at him, almost giving him a death threat. She fully thought of him as her criminal. As her oppressor and no power besides the power of Allah could make her rethink her decision. Her brown eyes traveled to the people in the back and she spotted Cornelia and Damian.Cornelia's assuring smile made her gain confidence
——Maryam's POV——That was it. It was the last Fibre of patience I had left in me. I couldn't let him stomp over me anymore. I couldn't let him throw haze into my eyes and get away with it. I wasn't that weak. I stormed out, but my footsteps were light and I wasn't as furious as I had been while entering. The man at the reception stood up to greet me again, Rashid still standing beside the desk. He came into motion when I passed but with just a wave of my hand, Rashid stopped and understood that I was good on my own. My eyes were blurry and I had a throbbing headache that made my body tremble. But, I ignored it. The rush of adrenaline made my veins pop out but I kept on going. I knew I couldn't return to Saleh manor and step right into Abdullah's territory. He could easily indulge me in his sorry pleas and excuses and once again, I'd give myself to him.I texted Cornelia, telling her to meet me at a coffee shop and that it was an emergency. I knew she woul
--Maryam's POV--The next few days were peaceful. I forgot about my parents ever coming in the first place and I had to admit, it was only because Abdullah made everything seem so normal that I couldn't make it a big deal even if I tried to.It turned out I was right. Of course, mother and father only came to visit me to exploit Abdullah's power and wealth for their own benefit. They had been evicted from their house and property because some social workers found out they were trying to adopt another kidnapped child from human traffickers to get paid by the government. The news made my body shiver.Abdullah told Rashid to crack the egg when father pleaded for him to help them financially. It was one shell of a scene but I was in my room, snoring my dreams away by the grace of Allah. It made me think; if it weren't for my foster family's wrong ways, I would've never been adopted by them from those kidnappers. And if that never happened, Al
——Third Person's POV——"Okay, I'll wait for you," Maryam said into the phone, checking out her fingernails, with a poker face. She spoke like it was the most boring thing to do. "Do bring Husna along. She'd like it." she continued, as Abdullah looked at her.He had settled on the bed after taking a shower and was getting dressed for work, all the while observing his wife as she talked to her mother and invited her to their house. He pulled on his sock when Maryam ended the call with a quick "Allah Hafiz" and put the mobile phone on the dressing table. She let out a long sigh and leaned on the dressing table for support, putting her hand on her head to show her mental frustration. Slipping on his shoes, Abdullah decided to ask Maryam what happened. "So, when are they coming?" he questioned. She adjusted her posture and brought life to her tone. "This evening. 5 o'clock. She was saying they would pray Maghrib here." she told him. Abdullah walked o
—Third Person's POV—The heavy main door of the Saleh manor opened with a thud and in entered Maryam with a bright smile on her face. Her light footsteps were hardly audible on the entrance carpet and she held the strap of her purple backpack placed over her shoulder. She didn't realize that her smile was still plastered on her face as she walked towards her room. Revising the events that occurred at school that day, she couldn't help but talk to herself and keep on grinning. "Ma'am!" A small voice interrupted her thoughts and she whirled her head around to see Mila looking at her with wide eyes. "I'm so sorry! I didn't hear you come in or else I would have rushed to welcome you myself!" she looked worried as if she had made a big mistake. "Don't worry about it, Mila. You know I don't know how to act like a proper, rich mistress. I'm fine even if you don't treat me like this." she assured her through her smile. Mila lowered her gaze and nodded. "But, I can't
