Princess Sue was silent along their long journey to their next destination; the land of Shazer. It was the Queen’s order to be in that place to extend the empire’s cause through the hands of the prince. Since war had ceased through the marriage, Prince Jion didn’t have to attend to any Baron’s court meeting, plotting strategies to overthrow the Teuton tribes.
“My heart was sorrowful about what happened last night.” Princess Sue broke the silence. But the prince was still frowning, lifting his eyes outside the carriage. He was disturbed last night after he saw the hatred on that tribal princess’ eyes. Behind those veils was the rage she kept and controlled in front of him and those nobles. However, the night cried with her, hiding her own sobs on her own room. He heard her behind the doors and he was puzzled why his heart clenched.
“Are you still mad, Jion?” She clung on his royal robe. He looked at her. “I repented for taking part last night and I barely slept after I saw the serpent and her eyes.”
Princess Sue looked truly troubled. No one would ever had any descent sleep after seeing the wrath of Princess Alminah last night. She can even tame a serpent that no one saw before.
“I always heard the hissings of the snake on my room. I was really afraid of it.” Her eyes filled with tear that was about to fall down.
“It will be fine.” He said sighing. “I am upset, yes. And I don’t mean to ignore you all day. I’m just lost thinking.”
“I’m really sorry.”She asked again, leaning on his chest. He averted his eyes outside, wondering if the princess was riding ahead the chariot or was behind the carriage with her horse.
Princess Alminah looked up the sky, letting the horse she rode led her. She was in the outermost behind the chariot. The carriage was way ahead, in the middle of those horse riders, looking all directions always on guard.
“Your Grace…”
She threw her look on a young man riding side by side of her. He slightly bowed, still looking on the ground after lifting his head.
“If you may, can you ride a bit further near the carriage? We cannot defend you behind the chariots.” He spoke reverently. The first respect next to her chambermaid, that she ever had since she came joining other people other than her tribe.
“I am comfortable here.” She said.
“The majesty would also want your safety-,”
“Do not speak about that despicable man.” She cut him off as he fell silent. He knew the event last night.
“I am sorry.” He bowed again while she looked ahead. “If you may, can I ride beside you, your grace? I can protect you if ever.”
Her eyes slightly squinted as a smile was drawn behind the veil. No one did even consider what she would prefer except for her chambermaid, Shuna. She was like this man, asking her if she ever wanted their presence or not.
“The war is not nigh at hand. Didn’t you just forget that it ended?” She spoke to the surprised of the knight.
“Indeed your grace. But we cannot go complacent anytime and slack around. As part of the royal family, we vowed to have them protected until our last breath.”
“Even me?”
The rider bowed his head. “ Ye are part of the royalties. It must be difficult to be married on your nemesis, princess. But you still do it in the name of your tribe; For liberty and peace of these lands; To cease the war and to make treaty to live in harmony.”
“What a wisdom you have.” She complemented.
“Adversaries bring forth wisdom, your grace.” He said.
On the horizon, they saw the city of Shazer. While the sun is mightily burning the sky, the chariot continued to push forward towards that great city.
The Duke of that city welcomed the royalty on their abode. Shazer people were excited when the prince of Romania came personally to visit the people of their empire.
“Ye must be weary, your highness. I am gladdened to have thee on my humble residence.” Duke Nephi, the well respected person of the city said. Prince Jion and Princess Sue had rested on the soft couch while the royal guard were outside, checking the whole vicinity.
“Thank thee for having us in your house, Uncle.” Prince said in obvious tired voice. He too didn’t even had enough sleep in Lord Troi’s abode last night.
“My pleasure.” The old man bowed then wandered his eyes. “I was informed ahead that ye came with the Tribe princess.” he spoke when he didn’t see the princess coming with them.
Prince Jion looked up and indeed, the tribe princess didn’t come inside. He stood up, went outside and beheld her feeding her horse. He walked beside her.
“The Duke was looking for you.” He said in slight distance behind her. She didn’t even bothered stopping what she was doing. He frowned. “Do not be rude with the host of this house, lady.” There was a tinge of warning on his voice.
“I don’t intend to mingle with the likes of you. Ye and thy host.” She sharply said.
“What say ye?” He was in rage now.
“Ye heard me right.” she fought back in equaled blazed voice. “ I tried to heed in your every command. Even pleasing those nobles who played me. But they were treacherous and it disgusts me…and you’re one of them.”
“What?” His brows are smashed together. “I am not of them who tricked ye!”
“Yes ye were.” She said in a seemingly hurt tone but she disguised it with anger. She turned her back and climbed up on her horse.
“Where are ye heading this time?!” He boomed when she rode her horse out from the place. He clenched his fists tightly, gradually in a verge of losing all the patience.
The next morning, the riders joined the royal carriage to every corner of the Shazer. Prince Jion and Princess Sue headed the cause, giving helps to the needy, visiting the sick as well as taking down notes the needed development of the city. They had been to families and conversed with them. The people welcomed both of them and fed them the city’s delicacies.
Sun down, as they decided to carry on with their cause on the morrow since there were things that needed to be done.
“How are you feeling now, Jion?” Princess Sue’s concerning voice resonated his ears as he warily opened his eyes.
“I ‘ll be fine. Just worn out maybe.”
They were now in carriage heading towards Lord Nephi’s house. He had headache along with helping people. Just this morning his body felt heavy due to lack of sleep last night. The princess came late at night after their heated words in the afternoon. As the prince, he waited even nearly at dawn.
“Where have you been?” He remembered asking her the moment she came inside the already silent house of lord Nephi since everyone in the household fell into slumber already. What irked him was the fact that she just passed by him giving no such respect for him as the prince. “Don’t tick every patient that I have, Lady.” He silently said in an eerie tone. She stopped on her tracks. “Don’t ye ever forget that it is I who captured your father on the battlefield?” The prince stood up. “Ye are in my land. Everything ye laid eyes into are mine…even ye, are my own property.” The heel of the majesty’s boot created a sound on the granite floor as he finally got behind her.
Princess Alminah felt nervous when he grabbed a handful of her hair and crashed it on his palm, warning her of something. He leaned closer on her hair. “Even your tribe’s King fell under my power. So don’t make me discipline ye through your father, princess.”
“Why you!?” She snapped at him but he held tightly on her hair making her winced this time.
“Show me again this attitude and I definitely have your tribe to answer your misbehavior.” He hissed under his throat, glaring at her. She felt his warnings were not of empty words. She cowered in fear for the threatening.
“I-I will ponder of my trespasses.” She said in a trembling voice.
“Good.” He said, heading now to his room, leaving her slumped on the cold floor.
“You should really rest early Jion.” Princess Sue tapped his back as he planted his face on his palms, nodding.
A presumptuous dinner was served on the house of Lord Nephi but the prince wasn’t able to join the host since he retired to his bed already. Princess Sue volunteered to bring the prince his dinner on his room since Princess Alminah had no plan in doing so.
“Did I interest the princess with the delicacies this evening?” Lord Nephi asked the only guest who joined him in the supper. The tribe princess wandered her eyes around, seeing a butler standing far behind Nephi while the two ladies in their uniform were behind her waiting to be ordered.
“Indeed.” She shortly answered yet not touching her plate of food. He grew curious instead.
“But you haven’t eaten any of these foods. They are good.” The lord smiled to her yet she didn’t reciprocate it. “ Are you perhaps troubled that your husband is not well?”
“Nay.”
Lord was taken aback at her unhesitant answer.
“But if you’ll excuse me, I‘ll be very glad.” She stood up heading outside.
Prince Jion wasn’t expecting princess Sue to attend him on his room and brought the dinner with her.
“I hope you don’t mind me entering in your room.” She gently placed the tray of food on the mahogany table. She tucked in her long straight hair behind her ear before settling down in the couch.
“You really don’t have to do this, Princess.” he said, putting down the notes of the concerns of the city.
“It’s fine since I am done eating also. You need to gain strength.” She lifted up the plate.
“I got it. I can do it myself.” He took the plate from her hand, placing it on his bedside. Princess looked at it then to him. Clearly, the prince do not wish to be fed. “I heard uncle prepared a dinner for us. You should dine with him as courtesy.”
“The tribe princess ate with him.”
Jion looks surprised hearing it. “She did?”
“Yeah but she left to somewhere I don’t know.”
Again?!
Jion frowned and heaved a deep sighed.
“Princess, thanks for bringing the food but I can manage. You may go now.” He said leaving her no choice but to go out his room
Late at night, Alminah came inside the abode of Lord Nephi. She was dispirited upon entering her room when she didn’t see what she seek. Nevertheless, she had something on her pocket which might help a little. But she had no clue as to how to administer it.
“Where have ye been?” a voice made him jumped in fright.
There, the prince sat royally on the couch inside her room. The light from the moon streamed inside the window making his half body visible to her.
Alminah bowed first before speaking up. “Here and there, your highness.” She politely answered.
“Where exactly?”
“On the river bank not far from here.” She said in slight bow.
“And what business did ye do there? The Lord of this house told me that you didn’t even touch your food on the dinner.”
“True. I joined Lord Nephi to be polite of him as what you ordered.”
“But you didn’t eat. I never saw you eat.”
She looked up to him and blinked not even sure why it made him hype.
“Tomorrow I will.” She bowed to him while bitting her lower lip in contemplation.
There was silence between them while Alminah slowly lifted her head from bowing.
The prince got out from her room not even half concern about his health. And he had no idea why he wanted to slam the door hard this time but he didn’t. Unless if he wanted to wake every one in the house.
Alminah was left inside her room, unpocketing the herb she was looking around in the river bank. It was good to boost some weakening body out of weariness. She had observed him working very hard on the cause to patch the doubts of the alliances in the neighboring lands. The prince was pushing himself too hard that it made him all weary like today. She just wish she was able to give it to him so that he can be strong again for tomorrow. But she had no idea how.

On the next day, although a little bit weak and having a bad head ache, the prince still embarked in the good deed with princess Sue who was surprised seeing the tribe princess joining them.
A lot of the residents beheld the tribe princess that the prince married. She was always wearing a veil which made them curious what was behind it. She had dangling jewelries around her wrists and a green gem wrapped around her neck with a handmade necklace band.
Alminah was disgruntled by the fact that she was giving alms to these people who were actually lining up to get their share.
Prince Jion was beside Sue who was asking questions to some of the residents about their daily export of goods throughout the land. He stole a glance to the two princesses helping people. Sue was happily smiling to those people while the other had her soulless eyes, handing those goods.
“Princess…” A little girl approached from behind, tugged Alminah’s strange looking tribal dress. The princess turned to see who it was.
“Can I touch your hair? It looks strange…and pretty.” She asked the princess.
The other three girls who were actually staring her all the time came joining the brave girl who approached Alminah.
“Can I touch it too?” The two gleefully asked her but she only stood there for a while.
“I wanna be a princess too…like you.” The other girl timidly said.
“Don’t dream of it...” Finally, the tribe princess smiled behind that veil, crouching to face the girls now. They touched her reddish hair and even smelt it.
“But why is that? You’re a princess, right?” The girl asked. “And you have a kind prince beside you.”
“I am but a prisoner of my own duties and vows that I need to endure.” The people couldn’t even react on the words she said. “And when you chose to magnify your calling as the princess, you cannot be sure who will be on your side…sometimes you are all alone.”
Princess Sue saw Jion’s jaw clenched yet he tried to hide it since there were many people around who began to murmur animatedly for the words of suffering from the tribe princess. They felt her pain of being alone fighting to cease the war.
Later that day, the royal carriage was heading home when an attack suddenly crossed in their way, Princess Sue yelped in surprised when an arrow hits inside the carriage. Two, three more arrows before Jion was hit just to cover for Sue.
Every knights outside were in commotion trying to fight back those attackers.
“The princess! Protect the princess!” Jion hysterically shouted outside.
“Jion stay here! It’s dangerous outside!”Sue called out but the prince got out pulling the arrow from his injured arm.
The knights overthrew the attackers sending them in retreat. The chief of them ran to the prince who got out from the carriage.
“You’re highness, you’re hit! Stay inside the carriage!”
“The princess! Where is my princess!?”
“She’s safe. Please get inside; we'll hasten to the Lord’s house.” He thrust the majesty inside the carriage, leaving immediately from that place.
On Nephi’s house…
Prince Jion had his shoulder wrapped with bandages but still lying weakly on his bed. He was awake while the doctor tended his wounded arms.
Princess Sue was beside him all along weeping for his condition.
“Stop crying, princess. It’s not your fault.”
“But I was supposed to hit by that arrow.” A fresh tear escape from her eyes.
The doctor put down the paraphernalia and sighed. “Your highness, we still need to check your wound further since we are not sure about your safety…we found an amount of sulfuric powder on arrows head.”
Everybody knew what it means. It will slowly circulate on his blood and kill him if not treated.
Princess Alminah was inside the room far away from bed, her back against them as she was seemingly contemplating while staring outside the window. Sulfuric powder? It will be bad for him. Alminah thought worriedly.
Prince Jion's eyes was with her. “I am not threatened with that. Death will be ours eventually but I can’t die yet.”
Alminah looked up, pacing towards the door. She stiffened a moment when he continued.
“Even if it will free somebody chained with stupid duties and made her happy with my death, still I will live.” He hissed, eyes bore at the tribe princess’s back.
“Too bad.” Princess Alminah muttered before opening the door and got out. His jaws clenched in suppressed anger as his chest heaved up and down.
“Leave me.” He commanded in low voice after a while.
“But Jion-,”
“Leave me now!” He shouted which made them flinched in fear. They headed to the door, going out. “No one shall enter, understood?!”
As the door closed, he was now alone. He threw the pillow in rage to better calm him but it didn’t.
How he saw that tribe princess helped the wounded knights that she grew close along their journey. How she just stared at him when he was in pain.He bet he wore a blank face behind her veil while regard him with no sympathy at all. How he hated her coldness. How he hated himself for being attached to their relationship alone. She said to those kids that she was alone when in fact; he should be the one to say it.

Epilogue The whole tribe, now dwell in the valley Zagreb, waited for one person to arrive in the field. It has been two weeks since the young prince departed, leaving his wife in the care of her own tribe. The large blue moon lighted the dark fields but it made the heart of the princess melancholic. It has been many nights, she was alone in bed without the heat from her husband's body. The teuton tribe people rounded on the large bonfire after the merry making. Alminah bit her lower lip while tracing with her hands the gem she acquired on the wild river. Jion trekked into the mountains, alone. To retrieve the heart of the active volcano. She knew that his quest would require him his life, she told the prince of
Alminah was silenced as she arrived at the great river. She had removed her cloaked and let it dropped onto the grassy ground. She listened to the wild thrashing of the river falls and the violent rapids. She was atop and beholding the frightening deep waters below. Her horse made a sound of protest when she crouched down as if readying herself to launched forward. Her eyes glistened blue, her normal eyes, when she smiled to the horse, calming the beast before she jumped into a perfect dive. Almost immediately, she was swallowed by the river and never came out the surface for a while. The horse, if it was even possible to have its leash untied, would like to go and save the tribe princess. The noise of the horse whinnying so loudly draw the attentions of the royal carriage as well as the royal guards passing by the rivers."A horse?" Princess Sue commented to no one in particular. Both prince Woon and Prince Jion were outside t
Dari hastily strode towards the large tent situated at the heart of the valley. A scroll with the royal crest on it was on his right hand. When he was admitted inside by the warriors guarding the entrance, he saw the tribe king in conversation with another tribe chief from the west.KingTeutonraisedhisheadwhenhebeheldDariwhobowedbeforehim."An epistle from the royal family, chief Teuton." Dari said respectfully. When Teuton nodded to him, he went to hand him the scroll and waited for his order.Teuton untied the scroll from the gold-plated thread. He immediately read the heading of the epistle which made his forehead creased slightly. The chief trie from the west gave Teuton a studying gaze before he asked. "What contains it, Teuton?"It took awhile before Teuton could answer Ashir of his inquiry as he made sure to finish reading the scroll b
The tribe princess had made her own point in not raging war again and because of that, Chief Teuton was freed. It wasn't because of democratic way of dealing the elites but rather it was by force into agreeing to her.The large group of the tribe slowly emerged out the gate of the kingdom, trekking the very lands of their inheritance. War has ended. But it was as if the momentary truce between the elites and the tribe was placed into a thin layer of iced river water. One wrong move and the ungodly fight will explode again."Alothadhappenedtoday, isn'titdaughter?""Yea shetai. A lot indeed." He fully understood the anger his people hold on their hearts. However, there were anxieties within him that troubled his mind. What if the death of the Teuton stirs up more contentions? He knew barbarians are fierce when provoked. The decades of war were the proof of it. They will not stop until they satiate their understanding on justice. He must admit that he was getting tired of it. From the moment he was in the t

Shima exclaimed as she saw the sets of what look like to her as many forks, many spoons, layers of platters and lines of drinking glasses. She looked up and saw that Minah and Chaerin had the same predicament."All I wanted to do is to be glutton tonight and not use this blasted silvers." Lord Sten was informed of the occurring events in the large valley where the tribe circus traveler was temporarily pitching their tents. Dari placed the last tent on the carriage as ordered by the Teuton chief since they were now entering the capital tonight for the circus show as requested by the grand queen to welcome his son, the king from his travel overseas. It was late in the afternoon but the sun was not setting any soon so he was privilege to do the chores without the difficulty of having no light. As he finished checking the goods including the food and the caged animals which included the black pumas, he turned to get back to his own horse when the three ladies showed up, heavily panting. “What are ye-, Shima? Are ye hurt?” Dari ran to them and affirmed that she was wounded. “What happened?” he exclaimed facing Chaerin this time. “Tis not my fault. We were just walking around, listening into crazy old tales and all of the sudden, there are fighting and Shima got hurt. Minah was mad and got involved in the fight and she made the guy Capulet angry and w
It was a very weary practice and the chief tribe allowed them to breathe some air either just to sit around the grassy valley or roamed around the capital to get familiar with the place just before they wilt have to perform the circus for the noble. Alminah and Shima shared the same interest in fine jewelries that the English women wore in some occasions so they sorted to be in the city to check some of the goodies. “Iwantedtopracticeratherthatwalkedaroundinthisnoisyplace. If it is not for our living, I’d rather me inside the tent and play swords. Ye are no fun.” Alminah managed to talk despite her animated choosing of the jewelries. “Dari and Chae were like siblings who struggled to e
