Sequel to 'Private Lessons' but can be read as a stand-alone also.
"Always and forever?" I asked, gazing into his crystal blue eyes and he held my hand, giving it a slight squeeze.
"Always and forever, Lu." Theo gave me one of his dashing smiles and I grinned widely, tucking my hair behind my ears shyly.
Theodore Phillips was 14 years old and I was 13. Even though we went to different schools and our houses weren't nearby, we were always together. He was my best friend in the whole wide world and we knew everything about each other but little did I know about the disaster that was going to happen later that day that would break us apart.
"I'll be right back. My friends are at my house waiting for me." He stood up and started to dust his pants while I remained seated on the muddy grounds of our nearby park with a slight pout on my face.
"Ugh! This is the third time, Theo." I sighed, trying not to sound desperate.
"I promise you, I'll be back this time in 10 minutes max." He assured me and I looked up at him.
"Promise?"
"I promise." He grinned, playfully tousling my hair, and jogged towards the entrance of the park while I pulled out my favorite Nancy Drew novel and started to read, resting back against the bark of the tree.
Time flew by and yet he was nowhere to be seen. I tried to remain as calm as possible. It was almost two hours but I didn't give up. He promised me and I knew he wouldn't break his promise. Maybe he was caught up somewhere. I tried to convince myself but as hours passed by, I knew he wasn't going to come back and it was going to be just like the other two times when he stood up on me. Tears brimmed my eyelids and I stood up to pack my things as it was getting dark. I walked towards my bicycle and started to ride it towards the direction of his house.
This was the third time I was being stood up and I wasn't going to take this anymore. Once I reached his house, I got down and walked towards the door to ring the doorbell.
"Lucy? What are you doing here at this time, dear?" Mrs. Philip, his mother gasped as soon as she opened the door and looked at the clock behind her. It was 8 pm and I knew it was a school night. My mom would freak out more than her if she knows I drove all the way to his house all alone at this time of the night.
"It's okay, Mrs. Philips. I'm here to see Theodore. Is he here?" I asked, trying to maintain a straight face even though I was fuming with rage inside.
"Yeah, he is in his room with his frie--." I rushed inside even before she could complete her sentence while she gave me a confused look. I have been in his house and in his room a million times to know exactly what he was doing with his friends right now.
"I'm gonna call your mom and let her know that you are here." His mother called out while I made my way towards his room. I stopped dead on my tracks when I heard his voice.
"It's all good, bro."
"Dude, you said you had to leave nearly four hours back. Lucy must be waiting for you."
It was his friend's voice.
"Fuck! Is it really four hours? Well, she would understand, Mike. She can never stay mad at me. Now, focus on the game, will you?" He yelled and I could hear the shooting sounds from his video game through the door.
What the hell?
I wiped away my tears angrily and turned back. I was so done with him and his friendship. He was not going to take me for granted anymore.
"Lucy? What happened?" His mom asked as soon as she saw me rushing towards the door. I tried to hide my face and took a deep breath before responding to her.
"I'm fine, Mrs. Philips. Can you please pass on a message to Theo for me?" I asked, turning around to face her.
"Sure, dear."
"Tell him that I never want to see his face ever again and we are done," I stated in a cold voice and rushed out of the door before she could ask me any more questions. I got on my bicycle and started to ride, crying all the way back to my house.
Halfway through the ride, I could hear a familiar voice calling out my name from behind. I turned around to find him, pedaling his bicycle swiftly, rushing towards me. I stopped immediately and got down from my seat.
"Lucy!" He kept yelling and I squeezed my eyes shut to hold back my tears before turning around to face him.
"My mom said you came home and said something weird. Why didn't you see me?" he asked, out of breath, and got down from his seat.
"Screw you, Theo. Just forget it. I don't want to talk to you anymore." I spat at him angrily and he gave me a confused look.
"Are you seriously mad because I didn't come back?" he asked and I shook my head, letting out a small laugh.
"Yes, I'm mad because you bailed on me, not for the first time, Theo but for the third time. I'm sorry if it's not a big deal to you and I'm being dramatic."
"Come on, Lu. I lost track of time. I'm sorry." He tried to convince me and came closer but I stepped back, holding my hand in front of him.
"Don't. Just don't." I stopped him, wiping my tears, "It's always going to be like this, Theo. You have found new friends and I get it, they are more important to you than me. I can't let you take me for granted anymore. I don't deserve this and you clearly don't deserve my friendship." I rushed out and walked towards my bicycle.
"So that's it? You are going to walk away from me? What about our always and forever pact?"
"Always and forever?" I scoffed, rubbing my nose with the back of my sleeve, and continued, "Another one of your fake promises. We are no longer friends so you don't have to make me any more fake promises." I stated bluntly and could see the hurt expression on his face.
"You know what? Fine but don't come running back to me when you need a friend because we are done just like you said." He yelled after me while I shook my head and kept riding my bike.
I lost my best friend that day because of my anger and his ignorance. I know I over-reacted but he hurt me so much that I couldn't control myself. He didn't value me as much as I valued him.
And with that, our friendship was officially screwed that day!
"Wakey, wakey!" I heard my friend and my colleague, Grace Cooper's high-pitched voice, making me groan in frustration."Seriously? What time is it?" I stretched a bit, pulling my sheets closer to my body."It's 8 am and you need to get ready in an hour tomeet the Dean of our hospital. It's our first day, Lu." She exclaimed, pulling the sheets off my body to reveal the black cocktail dress that I wore last night to the club with Riley. She was my high school best friend and I loved the fact that we were both back in town after years of being apart from each other. She married her high school sweetheart and they have a six-year-old daughter together. We had so much to catch up and it was just like the old times.God, I missed her so much."Lucy Wilson! Did you party all night again?" she asked with her hands on her hips and I sat up straight on my bed, finally opening my eyes fully to look at
"Fuck, my legs are hurting. I'm done with the number of rounds we had to do today." I whined, sitting down at the hospital cafeteria and Grace copied my actions, placing our coffees on the table."For starters, you shouldn't have worn those wedges." She laughed at my whining and I stuck my tongue out at her in a playful manner."It was pretty good actually. I mean, we could get used to this and it's definitely not bad for our first day." I spoke, taking a sip of my coffee."Yeah and I think Dr.Brew has the hots for you." She winked at me suggestively and I rolled my eyes."He isn't my type but he seems nice though. I wouldn't mind if he is my mentor." I shrugged casually and pulled out my phone to check my messages and emails."Let's see what happens. Also, we are meeting this guy around 7 ish tomorrow. We would be done for the day by then, right?" she asked, busy typing a
I tried to calm my nerves as soon as I reached the restroom. I couldn't believe he still remembered our kiss and brought it up 'oh so causally' in front of Grace. I know I should have told him about Andrew that time but it wasn't like we were back to being best friends and I definitely didn't expect him to kiss me out of nowhere.Oh, God! Grace? What would she even think?Bythe way, I had no idea how he knew I had a boyfriend back then.Is that why he didn't contact me all these years? My head was filled with all kinds of crazy thoughts and assumptions but I shook my head and took a deep breath. I need to maintain my cool for Grace as tonight wasn't about me. I could deal with his arrogant ass later. When I walked back towards the table, I found both of t
"Get the fuck out of here. No way!" I gasped inshock, my eyes going wide and he just laughed at my expression, stepping inside and closed the door behind him."I know it's crazy but it's true. I've been staying here for two years now.""Wow, that's---" I paused, unable to form a proper sentence as I was still trying to process the newfound information."Horrible? Unexpected? Worse?" he suggested, raising his eyebrows and I rolled my eyes at him."Amazing, Theo. Get over here." I chuckled and wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly and he hugged me back tighter."God, you have no idea how much I missed this." He sighed against my shoulders and I smiled, feeling warm and safe between his arms."Me too. We still have a lot to catch up on." I pulled back and hit his arm lightly."I know. Sit down, Lu." He sat down on my couch and patt
Few weeks passed by and everything was going so well. I was loving my job and I was hanging out with Theo most of the time when I was back home from work. We used to play video games or watch Netflix or simply chill out doing nothing at all. We were both comfortable around each other and I felt like we had become even closer than before.Grace on the other hand was trying so hard to get any kind of information about him from me. It was even more convenient for her now but at one point it was getting out of hand and I was getting really pissed."So you and Theo huh?" Riley, my best friend from high school asked, breaking my chain of thoughts and I choked on my own saliva. We were meeting out for lunch at a small diner near my hospital as I was tired of hanging out with Grace. It seemed like the only reason she was talking with me nowadays was to get to know more about Theo from me and I really needed a bre
The next morning I woke up in my bed with a horrible hangover and let out a loud groan. I was in no mood to head to work and just wanted to sleep in. I rolled over and picked up my phone from the bedside table and found a dozen of texts from Theo and one from Grace. I opened her text first in my sleepy daze. 'Sorry about yesterday. Hope you didn't feel awkward.' - Grace. What the hell? It was like she was trying to rub it in my face. I took a deep breath reminding myself that I had no right to feel this way at all. They were dating and people who date are allowed to kiss. I shook my head and opened his texts which went like this, 'Where are you?' 'Did you get home safe?' 'God, woman! Pick up your phone.' That text made me laugh for some reason and I started to type him a reply. 'Rela
"Hi, Lucy!" I heard Grace's high-pitched voice in the cafeteria as I was ordering my coffee. I was finally on my break after working for four hours straight. I turned around slowly to find her walking towards me. She looked so happy and I could see it in her eyes sparkling with excitement.Dear Lord!I think I need a double espresso. I was not completely out of my hangover yet."Hi, Grace." I tried to force a cheerful smile and she pulled me by my hand as soon as I received my coffee, dragging me to the corner of the cafeteria."I really need to tell you about last night. It was so magical." She started and I kept staring at her, maintaining a straight face."Was it?" I asked in a sarcastic tone, looked down at my coffee and she had a small frown on her face."What is it? Are you mad or something?""Well, you didn't text me last nig
Halfway through the movie, I heard a loud knock on my door, making me jump from my seat and causing the popcorn to spill all over my couch."Dammit!" I cursed under my breath and cleaned my couch before making my way across the room all the while wondering who it might be at this time.Would it be Theo?I looked up at the clock and it was 11.30 pm. He did say we could have our movie night if he came back home alone. I shook my head and tried not to get my hopes up high.I opened the door and was met with a pair of crystal blue eyes. He looked tired and was resting his arms on the side of my door. I also noticed that his tie was undone, a few buttons of his dress shirt was open, revealing his chest. Was he...in the middle of something?
I jerked in my seat when I felt my phone vibrate in my jean pocket. I pulled it out to see a text from Lucy. I was currently in the middle of my English class which was really boring since I had already read all of Shakespeare's and Jane Austen's novels. Lucy and I had one or two different classes every day'I'm so bored.'--Lucy'Same here.'I hit send and tried to focus on the board in front of me. The day was dragging by and I just wanted to get out of school as soon as possible. It was Friday, for god's sake. My phone buzzed again on my desk, earning a few stares from my classmates.'Andrew invited us to a party this weekend.' --Lucy'There is no 'us'. I really don't
"Fuck! I hate it, Ri. It's only been a week and we are already swamped with homework and assignments," Lucy groaned in frustration. We were in the study hall, working on our math assignment since we had a free period."What else would you prefer doing?""Anything besides this. Also, Andrew is annoying me to the core. He hasn't texted me since morning." She pouted and kept checking her phone every five minutes."Here, let me help you." I grabbed her note and started to teach her. Not to brag or anything but I was pretty good at math and probably the only thing I was good at."Damn! You are good, girl." She whistled when I solved a complex problem but I simply shrugged, trying not to make a big deal out of it."You just need to use your brain." I teased, earning a smack on my arm from her."Shut up.""You know what? You could probably do this for money," she
"For the love of God! Stop screaming!" I groaned out loud with my eyes still shut. I stretched out my hand, trying to reach for my stupid phone to shut it off but it ended up falling on the ground with a loud thud."Perfect." I threw my sheets away from my body in anger and picked up my phone from the floor to see a small crack on the top left corner and the name of my best friend blinking on the screen."Lucy! It's Sunday!" I almost yelled at her as soon as I attended her call. I hate it when someone interrupts my sleep, especially on Sunday."Good morning to you too, sunshine!" She replied in a sarcastic tone and I rolled my eyes."You better have a good reason for calling me," I yawned, falling back on my bed, pushing away my chestnut brown hair from my face."School is starting tomorrow and we are officially seniors now. We need to go shopping, Ri.""You mean, you
A month later..."I don't think I can come early today, babe. I have a busy shift at the hospital." I let out a small pout, looking down at my fingers. Lately, I've been so busy with work and felt like I haven't had time for myself and us. I was already exhausted and just wanted to curl up and sleep for days."I don't care. You are coming home by 7 pm or I'm kidnapping you from the hospital." Hereplied firmly through the phone and I let out a soft sigh.I did miss him too. He has also been so busy, flying back and forth to Chicago for the opening of his new hotel, "I just got back today, Lu. Things are almost settled at Chicago and I wouldn't have to travel more often like before now." He stated with a pause, "God, I miss you so badly. Please get that cute ass of yours here," he whined like a puppy, making me laugh. How could I ever resist this guy?"Okay, I'll be t
"So it wasn't that dick head?" Theo asked feeding me a spoon of ice cream. I was back at home after a long day of work and told Theo about Dr.Brew and Grace."No, and I really have no idea now. My last guess is Andrew himself and by the way, you really shouldn't have punched Dr.Brew," I mumbled, licking my lips and stretched out my legs on his lap. We were sitting on the couch and chilling after dinner. It felt so right and I could see that most of his things were sitting in my apartment yet to be unpacked. He must have had a busy day with all the shifting."No regrets there, baby. He still wanted to get in your pants and I don't like the fact that he invited you for Thanksgiving," He shrugged lightly, massaging my feet and I let out a small moan."Oh, wow! That feels so good." I closed my eyes and s
"You sure you are going to be fine today?" Theo asked as I was getting ready for the day. He was still in bed beneath the sheets, tempting me to join him."Yeah. I'll just ask Dr.Brew and we will see how it goes. Worst case scenario, he denies it or maybe it was Grace all along." I rushed out hurriedly as I ran a brush through my hair."Mmmm...I wish you didn't have to go," he whined, rolling over to have a good look at me and Ismiled at him through the mirror. Why did he have to be crazy hot and tempting?"Not all of us own a business, Mr.Philips," I smirked as I walked towards my closet to get my coat and bag. Suddenly I felt his presence behind me and turned around to face him."Aren't you a sight for a sore eyes?" He nuzzled my neck, making me giggle as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders."I'm going to be late, Theo. Stop it." I moaned, not actually
"I had a really great time," I added, letting out a soft sigh as I stretched back against the car seat. We were back on our way to New York after spending Thanksgiving with our families and I didn't want to go back just yet."Yeah, me too. I'm just so happy that we are back together." He grinned widely, keeping his focus on the road ahead of us."It's not a big surprise. I knew you would work your charm on me and that's exactly why I didn't want to come,""In that case, I'm glad you changed your mind, sweetheart." He took my hand, planting a soft kiss on it, making me blush. We drove in silence for a while before he spoke up."So, umm...you still in touch with Andrew." He asked casually and I glared at him for bringing it up again."Seriously, Theo? You are still jealous?""Pffft! I'm not jealous. I just don't want him to think he has a chance with you again."
"I can't wait anymore. I need you now." I stated firmly, making his eyes go wide in shock and excitement."I can't believe I went without sex for almost an entire week. It was pure hell, baby." He grumbled, pushing me down on the bed and buried his face between the crook of my neckwhile his hands roamed all over my loose t-shirt freely."I know and it was all because of you." I added, running my hands through his thick lock of hair and closed my eyes, feeling the pleasure shoot through my body."We are going to have the best make up sex ever, darling." He beamed proudly, kissing my lips while his right hand automatically went under my shirt to find my bare breasts with erect buds, waiting for his attention."Mmmm--""Fuck, you are so hot." He whispered against my lips and I could feel his erection, rubbing against my bottom already making me wet. He removed my shirt in one swift movement, revealing my naked boobs and I not
"Hey, Dr. Brew." I greeted him as soon as I picked up the call with a confused look on my face."Hi, Lucy! Ummm...is this a good time to talk?" he asked, clearing his throat and I was starting to get worried now.Did something bad happen?"Yeah, sure. Is something wrong?" I asked, panic evident in my tone."No, not at all. Uhh...did you by any chance tell Theothat we are dating or anything?" he asked, making my eyes go wide.Oh no!Please don't tell me he did what I thought he did."Oh my God! What did he do now?" I groaned out loud, holding my head with my palm, and kept pacing back and forth in his room."Well, Theo did pay me a visit and punched me square on the face saying that I should stay the fuck away from you so I just assumed."What the hell!"He did what
