“You’ll be working with GreyCorps on the Jourdan project, Kat. Your transfer has been processed, and you'll be resuming on Monday,” Rowland, her boss, said, passing her a brown envelope.

Kat’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean, transferring me to GreyCorps?” Her brow shot up as she opened the envelope.

Maybe he was high or didn’t know what he was saying. Kat stared at Rowland, his perfectly styled hair and neat appearance somehow making the whole situation feel even more surreal. Rowland blew loose strands of hair from his face and crossed his fingers. He was always meticulous about his appearance—no surprise, considering he was the team leader of the creative and styling unit at one of the biggest fashion companies in the country.

“You’ll be working as a creative manager to Levi Grey. Everything you need will be sent to your email, and Gloria will hand you a package,” he added casually.

The words hung in the air, heavy and ominous. Levi Grey? Kat’s mind raced. The Levi Grey of GreyCorps?

The memory of his smirk flashed in her mind, that same infuriating grin he wore the last time she saw him. Just thinking about him made her blood boil.

“Wait. I don't understand. Why am I being transferred to GreyCorps all of a sudden? We secured this deal here, in Valtara, and not with GreyCorps.”

“Kat, I understand that this might be a surprise to you. This wasn't my decision alone. Think of it as a life-changing opportunity, Kat,” he said with a smile. “You still get to work on the project. It’ll shoot your career to the top, and who knows, it might even get you a top spot in the designer world.” He assured her.

She couldn't believe her ears. It felt like she was being betrayed and sold off to some wicked slavemaster, only finding out about it two days before.

“But—”

“Trust me, Kat. You'll love it.”

The problem wasn't even working or transferring to GreyCorps, but working with Levi Grey. Levi Grey? She could clearly picture his arrogant, self-absorbed face, probably smirking or laughing right now.

Her grudge against Levi Grey had been brewing for years. A traitorous ex-boyfriend, a self-obsessed charmer, and a breathtakingly handsome seducer—that’s who Levi Grey was.

Kat took a long look at the paper in front of her and then at her boss. Nobody knew her history with the traitor they were sending her to, and they had no idea they were waking the sleeping tiger.

But she had to keep her cool, at least, to not blow away the big chance she had to shoot her career to the top. It was choosing between the devil and the deep sea—refuse to work with him and lose the project or risk making peace with her enemy to advance her career.

As soon as she left Rowland's office, Gloria handed her the package he had talked about and gave her a fist bump. It was real. The contents of the package were paperwork on the project and her name boldly written on the ID card of GreyCorps.

“Kat Murphy. Creative Assistant. GreyCorps.” Kat read to herself as she sank into her seat. She needed some quiet, even if it was just for a moment to process everything.

They couldn't even make it a better position, but an assistant? Kat shoved the box away and stared at the high ceilings.

Everything was happening so fast. Working on the Jourdan project was confidential and highly important, but she still didn't understand. It just didn't make sense to have it transferred to GreyCorps with no prior notice to her and even why. GreyCorps was a tech company that focused on creating accessories that brought people together—apps, love bracelets, lamps but nothing in the category of clothing designs.

Kat’s moment was abruptly interrupted when Rosa quickly grabbed a chair. “Tell me this isn’t real!” Her best friend said sliding her chair close to Kat. “You’re going to GreyCorps?” Rosa’s eyes widened in shock. But then, almost immediately, a grin spread across her face. “That’s amazing!”

“You know about it?” Kat asked in surprise. Rowland had said she was the only one besides him who knew about the transfer.

“You know Gloria knows everything that happens around here,” Rosa chided. “She told me all about it! When are you leaving?” excitement bubbling in her voice.

Kat sighed and turned a weary face at her friend, “On Monday.”

“Are you serious?” Rosa gasped. “How can Rowland do this? You worked so hard to get this project, not to mention talking to Freya Jourdan.”

“I know, Rosa, I know. Why does it have to be GreyCorps?” She whined and rested on her friend. “There are other people they could give it to; why does it have to be him?”

“How are you gonna survive? The two of you literally hate each other, and the fact that he's your…” Rosa looked left and right, then whispered, “Ex.”

“I don't know, Rosa. Help me.”

Rosa put her hands on her cherry-red lips. Her long black hair caught in between her hands, getting in her face.

“I can't believe this, Kat. You’re so screwed. You two hate each other.”

Kat looked at her friend and opened her mouth to make a cry. There was no way to start processing how screwed she was.

“Kat…” Rosa put her hands on her friend's shoulder. “Isn't this looking like a story where the female lead has no choice but to work with the male lead she hates the most, who is also her ex, and then they fall in love all over again?”

“Are you crazy?” Kat asked, shooting her a glare that could have put holes in her if it were a gun. “In all the years I’ve known you, I never realized you could be this dumb. You’ve really outdone yourself.”

“Chill, chill. I was only imagining,” she laughed. “I really can't picture the look on his face when the two of you see each other.”

Kat let out a deep breath. This couldn't be happening. There's no way. How does she face him without him getting on her nerves? How were they even supposed to work together without being at each other's throats?

“It'll only be that irritating look he always has on his face.”

“You call that irritating, Kat? Heaven knows how badly even I want to see that face look at me. Do you even know what you're talking about?”

Kat looked at her friend, then brought out some sweets from her pocket.

“Look at me, Kat. You got to date the hottest guy in all of Metrovia without doing too much. Do you know how many women would die for that opportunity?” Rosa said, taking the sweet from her and throwing it in her mouth.

“What’s that got to do with taking my sweet? And besides, it ended when the idiot left without saying as simple as a goodbye”

“Kat, we both know that Levi is a hot cake. I still don't understand exactly why the two of you broke up, but whatever this is, it looks like a second chance to bring the two of you together again.”

Kat threw her head back in laughter. “First of all, Miss Fortune-Teller, that is no way possible on earth. He literally has women around him. Then second of all, there's no way this is a second chance at whatever you might be dreaming about.”

“How about we make a bet on it? My senses are tingling that this is going to be a long ride.”

“No way possible, Miss Spidey Senses.” Kat laughed and continued with her work. “No possible way.”

“Nevertheless, you can do this, Kat. Everyone at Valtara believes in you.” Rosa gave her a big hug. “How about I treat you to dinner tonight? Steak and champagne to celebrate your win?”

Kat hesitated. The idea of celebrating felt absurd, but maybe that’s exactly what she needed—one last night of normalcy before everything changed. She nodded. “Yeah, steak and champagne sounds perfect.” At least some champagne would help to drown away the reality of what's to befall her in two days from now.

“Gotta go now. Nate's calling for a meeting.” Rosa said and kissed Kat's cheek. “I'll pick you up by seven!” She waved and ran off.

She would miss everything, everyone. Especially Rowland's usual complaints when things weren't the way he wanted. She would miss the gossip, the celebrity trending news that Gloria always knew before anybody else.

The day went by quicker than she had imagined. Her phone buzzed with Rosa's message. She was almost done rounding off the pending tasks she had to attend to, and the only thing left was to pack her things and say her goodbyes.

This wasn’t just a transfer—it was a step into enemy territory. She could refuse, but no, the project was as important as her career was at stake. Could she really do this?

I didn't know when the time went by so fast.” Kat apologized as Susie held her hands. “It's okay. We just got outside too.” The two men with them were lively. You could tell the women had brainwashed them into being a part of their gossip circle. Lee was six feet tall with fine facial features. He looked just like a model, with his athletic body and ripped arms. From the way it looked, he had a big crush on Daya. He was kind of shy and stood close to her. And Matt, the blondie. He was the jester. Two inches shorter than Lee, Matt was the youngest. He wrapped his hands around the women and all of them rushed to the restaurant with smiles. “I'll have steak!” Matt announced. “Who's gonna pay?” Gwen asked and everyone burst into laughter. “We'll treat Kat to our special. The welcome special platter.” Susie said as she held Kat's hand.

"Fine, I'll live with you." Kat took a deep breath. It was definitely a bad idea -- being close to him, living with him, seeing him every day. She wasn't ready to open the wounds she had tried so hard to heal, to get away from. Freya Jourdan was already demanding a meeting and they hadn't even started work. There were other details that Rowland never mentioned concerning the project. "But for three months, nothing more than that." "This project requires our total dedication and concentration." His eyes rested on hers, causing her to look away immediately and focus on her bag. "We'll talk about this tomorrow." She was careful not to say his name. Except during work, of course, anything aside that meant she was comfortable with him and that was the last thing she wanted. Kat got out of the car before he could even say anything and closed the door. She didn't turn to wave him goodbye. Knowing where she lived was the height of it, they were not friends. “Hello, ma'am. My name is Guntar, Mr. Levi's personal driver. He asked me to pick you up.” The middle-aged man greeted her warmly, his voice steady and polite. His gray hair, streaked with black, was neatly combed back, adding to his composed demeanor. Kat blinked, caught off guard. “Hi— but...” Before she could finish, her phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number flashed on the screen: Message: The driver will pick you up. Please don't refuse. There was no mistaking who it was. Levi. How did he even know her number? She didn't remember mentioning to him that she would be moving the next day. Guntar stood by the door, his posture respectful, hands clasped behind his back. He looked prepared to wait as long as necessary, his calm eyes watching her with a subtle smile, as if he already knew she would try to say no. Kat glanced back at her phone, her heart quickening. Rosa dragged her feet along the hall, her heels feeling like torture devices after a long day. Her boss, Nate, was a real pain. She couldn’t tell if he just disliked her for no reason or if she’d tortured him in her past life and this was payback. She hated events like charity fundraisers. The room was filled with fake smiles and silent competition about who was richer, more influential, or more popular. The forced greetings and small talk wore her out, but she had to play along for Valtara’s sake. As she walked closer, she spotted Nate near the entrance, looking as composed as ever. He wore a perfectly tailored dark suit that showed off his athletic build, broad shoulders, and trim waist. His black hair was neatly styled, and his cool blue eyes were sharp, catching everything around him. There was no denying he was handsome, the kind of guy who drew attention the moment he walked into a room. But for Rosa, his good looks were hard to appreciate when she remembered how much he over

The sun's rays peeked through the yellow curtains, casting a warm, golden glow across the room. Kat lay there, trying to resist the pull of sleep. She didn’t want to give in, didn’t want to accept that she’d agreed to live in the same house as Levi. A soft knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She sluggishly turned to the other side of the bed, her eyelids too heavy to open. The comfort of finally giving in to sleep was too satisfying. “Kathleen?” His voice came from behind the door. Kat groaned, muttering under her breath as she forced her eyes open. The sunlight felt too bright now, piercing through the remnants of sleep. “Kathleen?” Levi called again, this time knocking a little harder. “It’s time for breakfast, and you haven’t been out of bed.” She glanced at her phone. 10:33 a.m. It wasn’t even the weekend. Luckily they would be working from home so she would have enough time to come back to sleep. “I’ll be out in a minute,” she responded, her voice hoarse from sleep.

The last thing she remembered was taking a step and then… falling? But she didn’t hit the floor. “Oh my God!” She quickly checked under the covers, her eyes darting back to Nate. “What are you looking for?” Nate asked, raising an eyebrow. Kat stood in the tiny kitchenette of the office, staring at the teapot as it whistled, the steam curling upward like a taunting reminder of the heat simmering in her life. The Jourdan project was more than just a job—it was her chance to make something significant, to prove herself. But now, Iris had stepped into the picture, weaving her cunning webs and threatening everything Kat and Levi had worked for. She had left everything at Valtara to focus on this project - the project that promised to shoot her career to the top. And she wasn't going to let Iris come and wash away those efforts for nothing. She poured the tea into two cups, her hands trembling slightly. This shouldn’t be hard. It was just a request—a simple date. But Kat knew better. It was a chess move, one Iris had forced her to make. And the piece in play was Levi, the man she loved. The man she had to protect at all costs. Balancing the cups on a tray, Kat took a deep breath and walked to Levi’s office. The door was s

The soft hum of the city accompanied Levi and Kat as they strolled down the bustling street market. Lanterns glowed like fireflies above them, casting a warm golden hue over the stalls. Kat smiled as she stole a glance at Levi, who seemed completely out of his element, his sharp features softened by curiosity and an unfamiliar sense of ease. “Still sure about this?” Kat teased, nudging his arm playfully. “Street food isn’t exactly your thing.” Levi smirked, his stormy eyes flickering with amusement. “It isn’t. But you said you’d make it worth my while.” “Oh, I will,” she replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she led him to the first stall. They stopped at a grill stall, where skewers of roasted squid sizzled over open flames. Levi hesitated for a moment before taking the offered skewer. Kat watched him intently, biting her lip to keep from laughing. “Go on, try it,” she encouraged

For the months Kat had been away, a lot had changed. Valtara, the café they usually went to for lunch, Rosa, Rowland and everyone at Valtara. Kat missed working there. She missed the comfort and the freedom of not having to worry about getting tangled with the boss or have her name plastered on the gossip of the week. She loved working with Levi - to be honest. But it was overwhelming at times, knowing they couldn't be too close to each other without having one or two said about them. It was enough that nobody knew that they were exes and knew each other before. Although things had changed between them, there was another problem to worry about - Iris was there. The moment Kat stepped into the buzzing lobby of Valtara, a wave of nostalgia hit her like a familiar tune she hadn't heard in ages. It smelled the same—coffee, paper, and the faint scent of fresh flowers from the reception desk. The hum of conversations, the clack of keyboards, and the soft murmur of printers churning out reports filled the air. It felt...like home, in a way she hadn’t expected.“Kat!” a familiar voice boomed. Rowland emerged from a side hallway, his grin wide and toothy, his suit grand and fashionable and his tie carefully selected, as always. He strode toward her with long, eager steps, his hand extended. “You’re back!” he exclaimed, clasping her hand in an enthusiastic shake that left her arm tingling. Before Kat could respond, Rowland turned his head and winked at someone behind her. “My heart, can you believe this? Oh my goodness! My queen has graced us with her presence again. Daya waved excitedly at Kat with two big shopping bags as she stood by the entrance of GreCorps. Kat got off the turquoise blue camry and folded her arms. She had told Levi that she wouldn't be coming home for the weekend because she had to prepare her report for Valtara. There was no need telling him about Daya coming with her too. Kat had been caught between telling Levi about what happened with Iris or not. Telling him would make things awkward, who knew what he might do? He might decide to have Iris leave and that wouldn't spell good at all. Not telling him might cause problems for Levi and the project if she didn't do what Iris wanted. The rest of the week had been overwhelming. Iris had her eyes hawking at Kat, watching her move everytime she went in to Levi's office or whenever they were together. It was tiring. “How was your day Kat? “ she asked sweetly, flashing her with cute smiles. “What's wrong with you?” Kat teased as she collected one of the bags from her. “Did you
