Bernice’s POV
“You’ve returned home,” my father says as I walk through the front door of our Alpha home in Sunset Pack.
As he spoke, he sounded bored. Uninterested that I had returned.
I couldn’t remember the last time my father and his wife, my stepmother, cared about me. They only cared about what I could provide for them. I have been taking drugs since I was 12, which will kill me when I turn 25, per my father’s orders, just so I can be the Alpha of our pack until my brother is of age.
I was born out of wedlock between my father, an Alpha, and my mother, another lowly omega. Though I have noble white fur, I was born an Omega, destined to bring shame to my family. I grew up with several older Alpha brothers, all of whom have died in battle. My only brother left, is my little brother, Caleb. He is 15 years old, and in one year, he will be the right age to take over as Alpha.
That is the year I will die.
My purpose, according to my family, is to make sure Caleb is ready to become the leader of our pack.
“Yes, father,” I say to him, ignoring the ruthless stares of my stepmother, Lilith, from the couch.
Lilith never liked me because I looked too much like my mother. Any reminders of my mother she despised. Which was fine because I wasn’t too keen on her either. The only good thing that came from her was my brother, Caleb.
“Aren’t you going to say hello to your mother?” My father says, keeping his eyes locked on mine.
She wasn’t my mother. But I’m not in the mood to argue so I plaster a smile on my face and turn to Lilith.
“Hello, mother,” I say to her, trying not to gag at my own words.
She stares at me with a straight face, not even pretending to be pleased with my return. Most of the time I think they wish I would just die in battle already.
“Your brother is in the kitchen. Speak to him about your experiences with this battle and then you may leave.”
He says that I ‘may’ leave, but it’s an order. I say nothing more to them as I head into the kitchen.
I walk in, and just as I see a big puff of smoke coming from the stovetop. At first, I didn’t see Caleb. But then, I spot him rushing toward the fire extinguisher across the room. I shake my head as I grab a bucket off the counter, fill it with water, and splash it on the stove, burying the pan that had caught on fire, all before Caleb managed to get the fire extinguisher off the wall.
I frown at him and fold my arms across my chest.
“Oops…” he says, looking up at me sheepishly. “Sorry…”
“Caleb, seriously?” I ask, shaking my head in dismay. “How are you expecting to be the Alpha next year if you can’t even cook scrambled eggs without burning the entire house down.”
“Well…” he says as he puts the extinguisher back and gives me a lopsided grin. “I have you to help me. Don’t I?”
Nobody has mentioned to Caleb that the medication I have been taking since I was 12, the medication our father forces me to take to disguise me as an Alpha, was going to be the cause of my death when I am 25. It was something I never wanted Caleb to know. As far as he’s going to know, I’m dying in battle. I won’t burden him with this kind of information. Knowing Caleb, he would only blame himself.
“Yeah,” I say to him, sharing his smile. “You’ll have me to help you.” It doesn’t feel good to lie to my little brother. But it was for his own good. “But I won’t always be here to put out your fires. You have to be more careful.”
“I know…” he says, staring down at his feet. I give him a small smile before going over to the kitchen table.
“Now, come sit with me. I will tell you all about this recent battle,” I tell him, sitting down.
His eyes beam as he runs to the table, sitting across from me. Caleb loved when I told him battle stories. He looked forward to it every time I returned home. He only met Alpha King Landry a handful of times, so he especially loved when I told him how heroic Landry was when fighting against the vampires.
Of course, I left out the fact that Landry saved me from the rogues when I went into heat. I figured I would spare my brother those personal details.
“I can’t wait for my first battle,” Caleb breathed. “I hope one day we can fight side by side. You, Alpha King Landry, and me.”
I smile at my brother and stare down at my hands, unable to look him in the eyes as I say, “Yeah… me too.”
Landry’s POV
A week later
It is the time of the monthly Alpha meeting at the royal capital. Landry has thought of nothing since his encounter with the female Alpha —the Omega in disguise. He remembers how she begged for help as the heat took her, how her body looked in the moonlight, ripe for Landry’s taking.
His wolf is excited to lay eyes on her again and seeing her serious appearance next to him at the table does nothing to stop it. Bernice seemed so focused and strong with her Alpha persona; nothing like that weak omega that was laid out in front of him. But Landry knew they were the same. He wasn’t an idiot, and he wasn’t going to be taken for a fool.
His wolf growls deep within him as Bernice continues to stare stonily ahead at all the other Alpha speaking. She was taking them in and listening with intent. Per usual, Bernice brought a notebook with her and began scribbling notes about the meeting. It was almost like the other night didn’t happen at all.
Landry wasn’t sure why that bothered him so much. Maybe because he knew of the liar that lay beneath this Alpha. He was determined to expose her for what she truly is.
Under the table, the fake Alpha has her legs crossed properly. Her legs were out of sight from the other Alphas and Landry took his chance. He decides that he will torture this she-wolf. He will dominate her in a way that leaves her begging for mercy. He and he alone will own her.
Landry’s fingers slide up her thigh. She pauses in the middle of writing something, and her entire body stiffens. His fingers linger on her leg for a moment, until her legs fall apart and out of the crossed position. He smirks, knowing he has her right where he wants her. She reaches for his hand and tries to push it away. However, he’s not going to give up that easily.
She squirms in her seat while pretending to listen to the other Alpha drone on about their last battle. But Landry knows his touch is all she can think about.
His fingers gripped her thigh tightly. His wolf howled with delight picturing the fingerprint bruises he surely left on her milky skin. She presses her legs together to keep him from having full access. If he wasn’t trying to be discreet, he would have laughed out loud.
She will learn. No Omega refuses an Alpha King.
He forced her legs apart, causing her to make the smallest whimper. No one seemed to notice though and he takes that opportunity to push his luck a little further. He drags his fingers between her uniformed legs, pushing and playing with her sex through her pants. Feeling her impending wetness was enough to make his blood pound with desire.
Her body shudders slightly as he continues to rub her core, she wasn’t even trying to push him away anymore. For some reason, this pleased Landry. Bernice was trying hard not to whimper in delight; tears were threatening the corner of her eyes as she held her breath. Her lips were growing red as she bites them.
Landry hardly notices the meeting end; he is so focused on his payback. The other Alphas rise and begin speaking to Landry, but he makes his excuses.
He will not be interrupted. He kept his hand where it was, Bernice’s face so red Landry was surprised no one mentioned it. He made the same excuse.
“I need to speak to Bernice, alone. If you gentlemen wouldn’t mind leaving us for a few moments.”
He repeats himself until it is just him and the Omega bitch in the room.
“Now,” Landry says, voice low and dangerous. “I believe you owe me something.”
Bernice's POV Tears threaten my eyes as I watch the last Alpha leave the conference room. It was only Landry and me; his hands still between my thighs, making circular motions around my clit. I held onto the table with dear life, praying that this torment will soon be over. But as Landry looks at me and speaks in a low and threatening tone, “I believe you owe me something,” I knew it was far from over. “I don’t know what you’re talking about…” I say to him, trying to keep my tone as neutral as I can. I couldn’t let him know that I was the omega. I was an Alpha now and I had to act like it. But it was so hard when I was getting so wet. “Don’t play stupid, Bernice,” he says, standing and pulling me along with him. “I know just how badly you want it.” …Damn it. He could see right through me; he was right. At that moment, I wanted him so badly. His beautiful piercing eyes fixated on my face; pupils glowing golden as they always do with captive traitors. That’s what I was to him. A
Bernice’s POV Landry’s cock was buried in me. The knocking outside the conference door, caused my entire body to freeze. I looked up at Landry, whose brows were furrowed together as the Alpha outside the door spoke. “What is it? You can speak to me from where you are,” Landry says loud enough for the Alpha to hear him. My eyes widen and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe. I thought the interruption of the Alpha would have saved me, but it appeared to be a game to the Alpha King. He was more determined to torment me than he was before. He began to thrust himself harder into me and I had to hold onto the table for leverage as his massive cock filled me. Having sex with Alpha King Landry. I would never have believed it a month ago. But it happened. Or happening, rather… Is this fate? Oh, goddess… could he be my antidote? No. I couldn’t give into him. Not like this. It was just too humiliating. “Stop crying, Bernice. It’s not like you’re being tortured.” Julia laughed in my
Landry’s POV“Your injuries could be fatal if left untreated,” Landry says, narrowing his eyes at her.“It doesn’t matter,” she murmurs, closing her eyes again. “A doctor can’t help me. It would be useless.”To Landry, she wasn’t making any sense. He saw tears escaping her closed eyelids; she kept her grip on his arm, though it was weak. He had never seen Bernice look so helpless and weak before. This wasn’t the same comrade he has come to know and fought alongside for all those years. She was just a simple Omega, weak and fragile. And injured. He sighed, annoyed with her stubbornness.“Okay,” he finally says after a pause. “No doctors. But at least let me take a look at it.”She says nothing as she remained lifeless on the table. The only indication of life was the movements of her chest with each breath she took. He decides to take her to his palace where he could safely examine her without interruption. He doesn’t want to put her uniform on over such wounds, nor would it fit witho
Jessie’s POV To Jessie’s shock, her brother’s palace is incredibly heavily-guarded. So much so that the guards will not even permit her to enter. She cannot believe it. “But I am the Alpha King’s sister!” she argues. “The most honored princess of the Wolf Clan!”Her words have no effect on the guards, frustrating her. They simply stand before the doors, blocking entrance to her and her maids.“Let me in!” she tries again, and one of the guards gives her an apologetic look.“I’m sorry, Princess, but this is an order from the Alpha King.”That just intrigues Jessie’s curiosity even more. She looks at her maids, thinking for a long moment, before beckoning them to the side, out of sight of the guards. She leans in close, whispering to be sure they aren’t overheard.“I need you to pretend to be me, and I’ll pretend to be you,” she directs her similar-looking maid. “You must pretend to faint, and I will sneak in dressed as you.”“Yes, Your Highness,” the maid replies. “That i
Landry POV Bernice doesn’t answer Landry’s threat, just stays sitting on the bed, lips together, looking at him like she has something to hide. She must have something to hide, or she’d explain herself. Landry’s blood boils. He does not like this newfound distance between them. After all, they’d once fought side by side on the battlefield! “Have you lied to me all this time?” he spits out, and is gratified when she flinches the smallest bit. “All our time fighting together, killing the enemy, living and dying – all a lie?” Bernice still does not answer. Landry snarls and paces in front of her, fury growing every time he sees her carefully blank face. “We trusted each other with our lives! We had each other’s backs! Tell me, tell me now. Which part was a lie?” Bernice takes a slow breath. When she speaks, it’s slow and measured, only serving to infuriate the Alpha King more. “I am touched,” she says. “But I don’t have an answer. Think wh
Jessie’s POV “These are perfect,” Jessie declares, selecting some of her finest jewels. She carefully wraps them up and sets them inside the bag she will send to her brother’s new Omega – Denise was her name, Jessie thinks. Such a beautiful Omega deserves beautiful jewels. “Yes, Your Highness,” her maid says. It’s the same maid that had helped Jessie create a diversion by pretending to faint, and Jessie feels very grateful to her. After all, without her, she would have never seen her brother’s Omega! “It’s strange,” Jessie says to her maid, tying the bag shut and handing it to an errand boy, who carries it off. “I could have sworn I’ve seen Denise before…” Her maid looks up at that, a strange look on her face, but Jessie hardly notices, so deep in her thoughts. “It was the look in her eyes…I’ve met an Alpha with those eyes before, although in wolf form. So familiar, with gorgeous snow-white fur. But that can’t be the same person as Denise, right?”
Bernice POVThe knife cuts through the air straight towards me. I struggle in my bonds, twisting enough so that the knife plunges into my shoulder instead of my chest. Pain explodes in my body and I clamp my mouth shut against a scream – I will not show weakness. There’s a snarl from the doorway – I turn my head and see Landry, standing tall and imposing, shoulders back and hands in fists, eyes narrowed at the assassin. His eyes betray how close his wolf is to the surface. He looks nearly dangerous. As the assassin draws back to try and stab me again, I catch her scent. It’s definitely a female, and there’s a familiar edge to her smell, one I remember smelling just hours ago. It’s not the natural scent of the killer, as assassins always mask their natural scent, to hide who they are. But the scents are sweet and floral, very girly and innocent, and I realize I have smelled them before. On Jessie! The assassin carrie’s Jessie’s scent with them, they must have been around Jessie just re
Landry’s POVLandry is stunned. She doesn’t understand? How could she not understand? How are his feelings not clear? He could explain. Right now. He could tell her everything. But staring into her eyes, Landry feels a lump in his throat and decides on a lie. The truth is far too painful, he can’t imagine looking into her beautiful, guarded eyes and telling her his feelings, for her to not respond.“You’ve been my comrade for many years,” he tells her. It’s at least partly the truth. Anyone knows the best lies start that way. “You are the only female Alpha. We have fought together, bled together. You are important.”Something Landry can’t identify flashes in Bernice’s eyes, too quickly for him to realize what it is. She shakes her head, long blonde locks tumbling over her back, and fixes her gaze on him.Landry recognizes that gaze. It is the same one she used while she acted as Alpha, on unruly wolves who dared cross the line. It’s stern, no nonsense, and Landry gulps. He’s somewhat
Bernice’s POV6 months later“Oh, my goddess, Bernice!! You look gorgeous!!” Jessie squealed as she ran into my room.I stood in front of my mirror wearing the most beautiful wedding gown I had ever seen. It was designed by the best designers around the kingdom. Jessie wouldn’t let me get my dress from anyone different.I couldn’t believe that today was the day that I was marrying Landry. I never thought this day would come. I kept my long hair up and away from my neck; I wanted my mark to be seen by all eyes as I walked down the aisle to my love. My wedding dress was strapless and hugged my curves perfectly, expanding around my waists and flowing in smooth and delicate fabrics around my feet, expanding outward. There were white flowers decaling the fabrics and a couple of white flowers entwined in the curly locks of my hair.I felt like a princess; this must be how Jessie feels all of the time.Jessie, of course, looked gorgeous in her light pink dress.“I’m honored you chose me to b
Bernice’s POVI couldn’t get back to the palace fast enough. As soon as I got through the front doors, I could smell the scent of my pup. He was in the living room with Caleb.Caleb sat on the couch with my pup in his arms; he was laughing and speaking in the baby which made me smile. Caleb looked up and gave me a wide grin.“We were just bonding,” Caleb said fondly.I chuckled as I made my way over to them; Landry stepped beside me to get a better look at our son and I could feel his breathing out in relief. I knew Landry would be pleased that he looked exactly like him. I could feel his heart growing in size as he stared down at the small pup.“He’s incredible…” Landry breathed; he reached out to touch the pup’s cheek, running his hand down the side of his face. “He’s beautiful.”Tears were welling in Landry’s eyes; my heart was feeling so full at that moment. I was so happy to be with my family once again.“He needs a name still,” I tell him. “I wanted to wait for you.”Landry thou
Bernice’s POVI could already hear the music from the ceremony booming through the city. This wasn’t a place to take a baby. I turned to Caleb and handed him my pup.“Can you take him to the palace?” I asked. “I need to find Landry and congratulate Jessie, and then we will come home.”“Of course,” Caleb said with a fond smile as he gladly took my pup from me. “See you soon,” he said, turning away and heading in the direction of the palace.I smiled fondly as I watched him walk away. After a moment, I turned back in the direction of the ceremony and went toward the music.I had to admit that it was incredibly overwhelming. There was no way I would ever get used to this many people in one place; there had to be hundreds of people at the ceremony. Not many noticed me as I shoved my way through them. A couple of them gasped as they got a glimpse of my face, and I heard some murmurs that I was Landry’s Omega.I certainly didn’t like being called Landry’s anything. I wasn’t his property. Bu
Bernice’s POVI can’t remember the last time I slept that well; it’s been ages. As I opened my eyes, the sun shining through the window nearly blinded me. I winced, feeling a small headache brewing in my temple. I sat up in bed, staring around the fairly plane room. This was another smaller pack so the packhouse was also on the smaller side.I could smell coffee brewing from downstairs, causing my mouth to water. I hadn’t had coffee since before I was pregnant.Wait.Oh, my goddess!I look down at my bed and saw that it was empty. My pup was gone. With a racing heart, I slid out of bed quickly and ran out of the room. I couldn’t get downstairs fast enough. Someone had taken my pup and they were going to pay for this.I didn’t give anybody permission to…“Caleb?” I gasped as I entered the kitchen.Caleb sat at the kitchen with a plate of breakfast, coffee, and my pup in his arms. I stared at him with such disbelief that he broke out into a grin.“I didn’t want to wake you,” he said. “I
Landry’s POVIt’s been 24 hours since Alaric has been killed. It took a few hours for his men to clean the mess of the vampires and go through all of Alaric’s stuff in the layer. There wasn’t much to find other than Alaric’s plans to take over the werewolf territory and eventually work his way to the bear territory. He knew that not all his vampire issues were solved, there will still be vampires that want to defeat the wolves, and there will also be bears that would want to defeat the wolves as well. But at least his biggest problem was done for right now.He could finally breathe; except for the fact that Bernice still couldn’t be found. His Beta had reported moments ago that they have checked 4 packs so far and Bernice wasn’t in any of them. She still had him blocked from their mindlink, so he couldn’t reach out to her.A nasty feeling formed in the pit of Landry’s stomach. What if she doesn’t want to return home?“Don’t be stupid,” his wolf hissed. “Of course, she wants to return
Landry’s POVCaleb stood trembling with blood splattered across his body, standing over Alaric’s dead body. Landry was amazed that Caleb had that much courage and managed to kill Alaric.Caleb looked utterly defeated, and yet he also looked relieved.Landry knew this was a lot for a 15-year-old to take in.He placed his hand on Caleb’s shoulder, reassuring him that he was there and that he was going to be okay.“We still don’t know where Bernice is,” Caleb cried. “She has all of us blocked. She won’t know that Alaric is dead.”He was right and Landry would be lying if he said he wasn’t also worried about that. But for right now, they needed to clean this mess. There will be other vampires after them once they realize their lord was taken from them.“Alpha King!” His Beta shouted in a mindlink. Caleb also looked up, indicating that he could also hear the Beta speaking. “You need to come out here… something is happening!”Caleb and Landry exchanged wary looks before departing from the l
Third Person POVAt a young age, Caleb had learned from his father how to break into safes. He wasn’t sure why that was a skill his father had taught him, or how his father even knew how to do such a thing. He never thought that type of skill would ever come in handy; until now.It didn’t take him long to get into Alaric’s safe; once he had it opened, there was only one thing inside. It was wrapped in this maroon, silk cloth. As soon as Caleb touched it, he knew whatever was inside was incredibly sharp. He could also feel the dark magic consuming it. It gave him an uneasy feeling. He didn’t think this was something he should be holding; but somehow, he knew that this was the key to defeating Alaric. He unwrapped the object to uncover a dagger. It was an interesting dagger made entirely of silver. The handle was maroon with golden swirls, just like everything else in this room.Caleb was sensing a theme. This was what was going to kill Alaric once and for all.“You thought you were cle
Third Person POVThe layer was dark; Caleb had to squint his eyes in order to see properly. Even with his wolf’s eyes, it was difficult to navigate through the dark halls that to what felt like nowhere. There were no sounds that indicated any life within the layer, and he wasn’t sure where the halls ended, but he found what seemed to be an elevator in one of the darkest corners. His heart was pounding violently against his chest as he stepped into the elevator. He knew already it was going to lead him down to the layer where Alaric has kept his sister for torture. He doesn’t think he was going to find Bernice down there, but he feared for what he was about to find.As the elevator doors opened, he stepped into a dimly lit room. The walls were lit with candlelight; everything seemed to be made of concrete and smelled of mildew and rotting flesh. He nearly gagged at the stench.Still, there were no sounds indicating that there was anybody down there. Could Alaric really have left his la
Bernice’s POV“Talia…?” I said again, forcing myself to sit up and ignore the dizzy feeling that washed over me. “What… what are…” I couldn’t even get the words out of my voice. She continued to cradle my crying pup in her arms while staring at me with a grin spreading across her face.“You didn’t honestly think that Alaric would let you go that easily… did you?” She asked with a fake pout. “You are pathetic to think otherwise. I’m just glad I don’t have to pretend to be your friend anymore.”“It was you the entire time?” I asked, my word quivering. I could hardly believe what was seen before me.How had I not known that it was Talia this entire time? I have lived in her house for almost a month; she showed me kindness and helped take care of me. But it was only so she can get my baby.“Sorry to disappoint you,” she said. “But I must be leaving now.”She turned away as I started to feel my wolf growing furious from within me. She was no longer going to be quiet; she was about to lose
