Alicia's POV
I was in the kitchen, preparing breakfast, when suddenly the door flung open, and my stepmother stormed in, furious.
"Alicia, you fool," she scoffed, startling me as I stood and bowed to her.
"What do you think you are doing?" she asked, her eyes glaring with anger.
"Why haven't you cleaned your stepbrother's room?" she growled, raising her hand to strike me.
I moved in fright. "Your Highness, I wanted to do that after I finished preparing my breakfast..."
"Shut your mouth, you pretentious fox," she snapped, gritting her teeth as she clenched her fist. "Don't you know you are supposed to finish your house chores before thinking of eating any food?"
"You are so lazy and clumsy, just like your late mother?" She was at it again, insulting my late mum after all she did for her. I was fuming inside but couldn't do anything. I was powerless before her. She looked over at the pot of food I was cooking. "You were busy trying to satisfy your cravings before cleaning my son's room. How dare you?" she snapped as she upturned the pot, making the food pour on the floor. My eyes glistened with unshed tears. All the efforts I had put into preparing that meal had gone to waste. I didn't eat the previous night; I had slept hungry.
I woke up this morning and did my chores. I cleaned everywhere, hoping to clean my stepbrother's room immediately after I finished having breakfast as I was very hungry. Everything changed, everything changed after my father died. My stepmother has become more vile and wicked than she was before. I wasn't allowed to eat meals prepared by the royal chef. She told me I would start cooking my food myself.
"You didn't have to pour the food away, Your Highness," I said through sobs.
"Shut up, you bastard!" she scoffed. If anyone was to be called a bastard, it is her son Enzo. Has she forgotten how they came to this palace? How my mum had taken them in when she said my father, the Alpha and King of the pack, was the father of her son?
"What have I ever done to you? Why do you hate me so much?" I queried.
"I wish you would just die as your mother did and leave the face of this earth, you dirty fool," she scowled as she spat on my face. I felt so disgusted. Why was this happening to me? For how long will I be able to suffer at the hands of my stepmother and stepbrother?
"What are you doing there, just standing?" Her eyes shot daggers at me. "Who will clean up this mess on the floor?" she asked, interrupting my thoughts.
I bent down and started packing the food amidst sobs. "And once you finish packing the food, go straight to your brother's room and scrub it clean. Did you hear me?" She asked, waiting for a response. When she didn't get any response, she charged me. I was infuriated. I knew at some point I needed to stand up to her. If I continued acting dumb, she would always treat me like I didn't belong. This is my father's house. Things didn't have to change for me just because he had died.
"Don't hit me, Your Highness," I snapped, my eyes glowing with a mix of fear and anger. Fear for what my outburst might cause and anger for everything I have been put through since my father's demise.
"What have I ever done to you to deserve this?" I continued. The look on her face showed how shocked she was that I had stood up to her for the first time.
"Are you talking to me like that?" she looked around, surprised. "Wait, did you just raise your voice at me?" she scowled. I couldn't bring myself to speak. My words got caught in my throat. I swallowed hard, dreading what would happen next.
"You despicable brat!" she said as she came at me. As soon as she raised her hand to strike me, we were interrupted by a palace guard.
"I am sorry to interrupt, Your Highness, but your attention is needed in the throne room." She turned to him with curiosity, raising her brows at the urgency in his tone. "What's this about?"
"The Prime Minister, Minister of Justice, and Minister of Defense seek your audience."
"Alright, you're dismissed. Tell them I'll be with them in a minute." She said to the guard who left the kitchen to deliver her message to the ministers.
She looked back at me and smiled wickedly. "Don't think you've escaped. I have some very important guests to attend to..." She moved closer and said in a low tone, "When I return, I'll think of the appropriate punishment for you." She shoved me against the wall and stormed out of the kitchen.
I sat on the floor, sobbing. "Why did you have to die and leave me, Dad? I don't deserve any of this. This was not the life you promised me." I wiped my tears and bent down to clean up the mess my stepmother had just made with the food. Then, all of a sudden, what the palace guard said crossed my mind. "The Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Defense seek your audience."
If they are all here at once, then they must have something very important to discuss.
I stood to my feet and darted down the stairs toward the throne room. I stood behind the door and eavesdropped in a bid to hear what they were saying.
"The forty-day mourning period is over," the Prime Minister said.
The Minister of Defense grunted, "We need someone smart and passionate about the citizens to continue the legacy of the late King Albert."
"The throne has been empty, and it is unsafe for the people. It is time for the rise of a new reign," the Minister of Justice added.
He looked around and gave a low grunt. "By the way, where is Princess Alicia? I haven't seen her around." He shifted his gaze to the queen, who was sitting on the throne with her legs crossed.
The queen put on a pale and worried face. "Alicia is down with a fever, so I told her to rest." Wait, what? I thought. What did she mean by Alicia is down with a fever? How can she lie so blatantly about me?
"Alicia is smart and selfless. At the age of ten, she mastered all the books of the kingdom, and she has a big heart for the people," the Minister of Justice said proudly as he smiled.
The queen sat on the throne, staring at him with grave anger, but she remained mute.
The Prime Minister became furious. "What are you trying to insinuate?"
"She's the king's only legitimate child, and she passed all the requirements to lead this nation," the Minister of Justice elaborated.
"Watch your tongue!" The Prime Minister snapped at him. "The princess is only a lady; she can't do much."
"Prince Enzo is our only option for the throne," the Minister of Defense said.
"He cannot become the king; he lacks in so many areas," the Minister of Justice rebelled.
The ministers started arguing among themselves. I wasn't surprised at how hard the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense fought to defend the queen and justify Prince Enzo as the heir to the throne. They had been frequenting the palace since my father died, plotting with my stepmother and going home with gifts. They have been bribed by her. The Minister of Justice, on the other hand, was one of my late father's true allies and loved me dearly.
The queen banged the table and smiled. "You have nothing to worry about. Alicia will be given the position to oversee the affairs of the place as the Minister of Affairs. That way, she'd be able to support her stepbrother, the prince." I stared at her, and anger brewed within me.
I knew she was lying through her teeth. She would never let me have any position in the palace. She was only saying that to appease the ministers. I have to seize this moment, I thought. This was my chance to let the Minister of Justice know that I wasn't sick as my stepmother had insinuated, and I was perfectly fine.
As soon as I took a step forward and was about to enter the throne room, a hand caught me from behind and spun me around.
"Now, where the hell do you think you are going?"
Alicia's POVI looked up, and there was Enzo, my stepbrother. He towered over me, his wicked smile etched on his face. Despite being three years older than him, he stood over 6 feet tall.I needed to think fast; I had to enter the throne room immediately, and I wouldn't let anyone stop me. Summoning all my strength, I pushed him aside, causing him to stagger, and ran into the throne room."Please, don't listen to the queen. There is nothing wrong with me," I pleaded, fear evident in my voice. The ministers and the queen all looked at me in astonishment."Didn't you say she was sick? Shouldn't a sick person be getting treatment?" Enzo looked at the queen, his eyes filled with fury. "Care to explain what is happening? Why did you lie about the princess?""What do you mean by she lied?" the Prime Minister retorted, shooting daggers at him. They argued with each other until the queen said, "Enough!" She stood from the throne and moved towards me. As soon as she came close, she whispered,
Alicia's POVHe looked at me and then retreated. He then turned to his guards."Untie her and bring her to me," he ordered. They did as he commanded, bringing me before him. The moment I was within his radius, the pull increased.Despite being scared to the bone, I couldn't deny the insane attraction I felt for the monster. He grabbed my hands, marking me as his slave. The unmistakable initials of our names engraved themselves in our arms. It was then that I realized the man was none other than the infamous Alpha Astor. At that moment, I screamed, begging for them to kill me instead.Alpha Astor was enraged by my outburst. In his anger, he ordered his guards to bind me and drag me to their envoy. I was forced to walk alongside the envoy, resisting the guards but ultimately succumbing to their overpowering force. We journeyed to the Ravkian kingdom, where Astor ruled.Upon arrival, as soon as I was released, I attempted to escape, but I was immediately caught."Sir, she attempted to e
Alicia's POV "You can't escape me, Alicia. The sooner you realize that, the better for all of us," Alpha Astor exclaimed, stunning me before I could create any more disturbances, as I had already gone too far, causing me to lose consciousness almost instantly. "Guards, keep a close watch on her and ensure no one enters the room without my explicit permission. Is that clear?" he instructed the guards, who couldn't meet his gaze, and they all nodded in agreement. I awoke from my motionless slumber and noticed that everything had become quiet. "Ouch... Oh... my head... it... it hurts," I murmured to myself as I slowly placed my feet on the floor, and suddenly, the memories came rushing back. "Did we... did we kiss?" I pondered to myself, and my eyes widened as the memories flooded back. When I had been dazed, I couldn't recall what had happened next, but now, with my pounding headache, it felt like the aftermath of a hangover from too much drinking. I felt dreadful and disoriented, ha
Alicia's POVIn no time, an alarm was implanted inside me, set to beep if I ever dared to escape. The kitchen restrictions forbidding me from touching plates or cutlery were soon forgotten when the palace maids assigned me more strenuous tasks."Alicia," the head maid called out.Without hesitation, I rushed to her side, lowering my head in a show of submission, avoiding any eye contact. I knew too well the consequences of defiance as the memory of a previous maid who suffered severe chastening, enduring a week of starvation, lingered in my mind."Your duties will include mopping the floors, cleaning the windows, doing the laundry, and attending to her highness in the king's chamber. From this day onward, you are officially assigned as her personal maid. Do you understand?" she snapped, her sharp tone shattering the last remnants of my fading courage."Y-yes, ma'am," I stammered, my voice barely audible."I said, I can't hear you!" she bellowed, jolting me into a state of composure. W
Alicia's POVMy stepmother never even bothered to search for my whereabouts, as she and her malevolent son had already decided to cast me away. At times, I wish they had simply sent me packing; that might have been a better fate than the life I now endure.Upon being assigned as Queen Melissa's personal maid, I held hope for a change in my circumstances, believing things would finally take a gentler turn. However, my expectations proved futile, and my situation only worsened. Despite having the opportunity to see Alpha Astor at any time as I serve his future queen, I find myself strangely attached to him."Alicia, why are you standing there like a log of wood?" Queen Melissa berated me, and I could only wonder what wrong I had committed this time."I...yes, your highness," I stammered, trying to steady myself."Are you slow?" she asked, her voice filled with anger."I'm deeply sorry, your highness. Do you need something? Shall I..." I began to inquire, but my words were cut short as s
Alicia's POVI hesitated to let him into the room, cautiously placing my hand on the door, hoping for some meaningful words. However, it became evident that neither of us was willing to back down. After what seemed like an eternity, he broke the silence with a question, "Can I come in?" It took a good three minutes before he uttered those words. With trembling uncertainty, I finally gave in, gesturing for him to enter. Yet, fear gnawed at me, prompting me to check behind him, making sure he wasn't followed, especially by his supposed Luna. Both Mrs. Sinclair and Nora would have warned me against any involvement with Astor, advising me to steer clear of trouble. But why did I allow him into my room? I had only recently recovered from the beatings inflicted upon me by Melissa, his so-called Queen. He had witnessed my suffering, yet he did nothing to intervene. And now, inexplicably, he stood before me.As I stood at the door, I mustered the courage to ask Astor about his intentions. "Wh
Alicia's POVI stood up, my body trembling with shame and guilt. Avoiding Melissa's gaze, I bowed my head in remorse. Meanwhile, Alpha Astor hurriedly put on his top, unable to find the right words to say, both of us bracing ourselves for Melissa's wrath."Seriously? Did you think I wouldn't find out? Astor...you chose this thing over me? This smelly, disgusting thing over me? And you had the audacity to sleep with me yesterday? Are you shameless?" Melissa's anger was evident as she hurled my makeup kits at Alpha Astor, who quickly stepped forward to hold her hands, attempting to calm her down and prevent her from attacking me."Calm down, Melissa. It was a mistake. There's no need to make a fuss about it," Alpha Astor tried to defend himself, desperately holding onto her to prevent any further escalation, as Melissa seethed with fury and a desire to harm me."I didn't come here to cause trouble, Melissa. It's not what you think," I tried to explain, my voice shaking with fear and reg
Alice's POVQueen Melissa was relentless, determined not to let me escape punishment. Despite my pleas and promises, she seemed fueled by anger and vengeance."Fine. If you won't kill your mistress, I'll do it myself!" Melissa lunged towards me, but I managed to dodge her attack. The whole Ravkian kingdom fell into a heavy silence as they witnessed Melissa's furious pursuit. I found myself playing a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, unable to fully harness my wolf power, let alone control it for defense.Alpha Astor finally stepped in and declared, "Melissa, you are a disgrace to this kingdom. Today, you will cease to be its queen, effective immediately. Go and tell your father, I couldn't care less."His howl pierced the air, freezing Melissa in her tracks. The palace was now engulfed in an eerie hush as everyone waited to see what would unfold next."Oh, your words mean nothing to me. Whether you're serious or not, I'll still have to kill her. It's either you do it, or I will," Queen Me
