“Alpha!!! The pack is under attack,” the weak and anxious voice of Diego came through my mind link, sending a jolt of fear through me.

“How is that possible?” I inquired, my mind racing with disbelief and concern, furrowing my brow in worry.

“Looks like they had insider information, cause they were able to get past the pack border without being noticed,” Diego replied, his voice trembling with uncertainty.

“Tell all women, children, and elders to go into their various hiding cellars, and no matter what, I repeat, no matter what, if I haven’t given the order to retreat, no one should come out of their hiding places,” my voice laced with authority as I ordered Diego. My eyes flashed with determination and resolve.

“Diego, find a way to inform Greg of the situation, and also send for he…” Before I could finish my order, I was hit in the side by a strong force, sending me flying to the ground, my body tensing with shock and pain.

My eyes took the sight of men standing before me, while my nose wrinkled in distaste at their disgusting stench.

“Well, well, well… Look who we have here, gracing us with her presence,” one of the rogues said sarcastically, and they all burst into laughter, their faces twisted with malice and amusement.

“How did you guys gain access into the pack?” Surveying my surroundings, I observed and counted my opponents, my eyes narrowing with suspicion and anger.

Surrounding me were eight wolves in total, all of them huge in size, their snarls dripping with aggression.

“What makes you think I’m going to tell you that?” The guy who had spoken first sneered, his lips curling into a wicked grin. “This pack is going to belong to us after we kill you,” he continued, his voice dripping with venom.

“Why this pack?” I prodded, my voice tight with curiosity and apprehension.

“That’s because our lady boss wants it,” the rogue replied, his expression smug and self-assured.

“Your lady boss? Who’s that?” My interest was piqued, my heart pounding with a mixture of fear and intrigue.

“Alpha, we can’t handle the rogues anymore, it’s like they know our every move,” Diego screamed into the mind link, his voice filled with desperation and fear.

“I’m coming,” I declared, turning to the rogue, who now looked pissed at me for zooming out while he was speaking.

“I don’t have time to hear your answer now,” I continued, jumping from the floor, attacking the rogue closest to me, my nails elongating and digging into his chest with swift motion.

No one was prepared for my attack, and they all stood still, staring at the bloodied body of their men. Seizing the opportunity, I slashed through two more.

“You bitch!!!” the rogues who had been in a daze all attacked.

Short of time, I moved with utmost speed, attacking all their vital points and sending their bodies flying.

“Eva!!! Help!!” A shrill voice sounded when I had my hands on the throat of the last rogue.

“Rebecca!!” Turning my head to the source of the voice, I screamed out as my heart skipped a beat.

Standing at the front of the once-closed door was the bloodied figure of my brunette best friend. Her face was soaked with tears, her body quivering. Tightly stapled to her neck was the hand of a rogue.

Releasing the rogue which I held, I screamed in pain. During my moment of distraction, the rogue had taken the opportunity to strike a hard blow to my ribs.

“Stand down or I’ll squash your friend's throat, MATE,” the man holding Rebecca’s throat said, his eyes shining as he said the last word.

“Mate, a rogue is my mate?” I stared up at the blonde-haired man with a sinister smile, my body filled with unknown dread.

“No, it can’t be, he can’t be my mate,” I shook my head as I thought with a heaving chest.

“He is our mate, we finally found our mate,” my wolf jumped within me in excitement.

“Shut the hell up!” I screamed at my wolf in my head. “A wolf who attacks my people can never be our mate,” I added.

“You’re not my mate,” I looked up at the rogue, declaring firmly.

“Who cares what you say, you know, your wolf knows, and you can’t deny you feel the attraction,” his lips lifted up in a smile as he replied.

“I will never accept you as my mate, and you should release her right now if you don’t want your head rolling on the floor,” J sneered, snapping off the head of the last rogue who was planning an attack on me.

“And who says I want you as my mate when I have already chosen mine?” The rogue retorted, releasing his grip on Rebecca.

Bolstering her body from the floor, Rebecca used her hands to comb through her hair as she stared with disgust at the blood on her dress.

“Babe, I look like a mess, right?” She pouted, staring at the rogue beside her.

“You still look gorgeous,” he said, his eyes doting as he pecked her lips.

“What’s going on here?” I stared at the two with my brow raised, questioning their presence and the situation unfolding before me.

“What does it look like to you?” Rebecca asked, turning to face me with a blank expression, leaving me feeling puzzled and uncertain.

“Why?” I stared at the two of them, my brows furrowed in confusion and concern. Rebecca and I had been best friends for as long as I could remember, sharing both joy and pain. She was like the sister I never had.

“Are you playing a prank on me, Becca? If it is, this is enough cause I’m exhausted, okay,” I said, feeling a mix of confusion and disbelief. I couldn’t understand why Rebecca would side with the rogues. I couldn’t see what she would gain from it. After all, the pack they were destroying was also mine.

“Are you dumb or just pretending to not understand?” Rebecca rolled her eyes at me, her tone filled with annoyance. “With your downfall, Eva, the pack would be mine. I’ll be the alpha of the pack and rule over it,” she announced confidently, her hands spread wide and her eyes shining brightly with determination.

“What? You are willing to sacrifice thousands of lives just to be an Alpha?” I stared at her, my eyes wide with disbelief and shock.

“What lives? They are just scapegoats, and it was not as if they were going to live forever,” Rebecca replied, shrugging, her expression cold and indifferent.

“If you desperately wanted to be the alpha, you could have just challenged me to it. You know there is a rule like that, Becca,” I stated, a lump in my throat.

“We both know that I wouldn’t win if I challenged you, so why risk it?” Rebecca retorted, her voice tinged with bitterness and resentment.

“So what makes you think you can snatch my pack from me now?” My nails elongated, and my eyes glowed gold as I allowed my alpha aura to surround me, my body tense with defiance and determination.

“You think I’ll come here unprepared?” Rebecca snorted, her voice filled with triumph and superiority. Immediately she finished speaking, an arrow slashed into my arm, causing me to wince in pain and surprise.

Before I could make sense of what was happening, I was surrounded by a large group of rogues, my heart pounding with fear and confusion as I realized the gravity of the situation.
