Katara's POV
I got different vibes, from our environment, and that made me peek from the carriage curtains. I could see lots of people chattering. It resembled a market square, with numerous villagers moving around, in an exchange.
“Prepare yourself, my Luna.” one of the guards knocked the door, saying. “We would be hitting the main packhouse soon.”
At his words, my heart commenced beating rapidly in fright of what I was going to meet. Alpha Kai didn’t show up anymore, after the third visiting. Something made me suspect it would be like this, often.
I clenched the hems of my gown, tightening the loosened strap that instant. In a few minutes, the carriage halted.
“It’s time,”
I came down, from the carriage, with the help of a guard. Looking around at everything, it was a big pack house, indeed, almost resembling mysteries of a palace.
“I will escort you to your chambers, my Luna.”
“Okay, t-thanks.” I replied the guard nervously, at the fact that I would have a room, a privilege I didn’t get in my previous pack.
Alpha Kai disappeared but I could scent a bit of him, lingering in the air. I figured as the Alpha; he definitely had much work load to do.
One of the entrance doors was opened and at it, my eyes widened. Never had I seen a building as big and vast as this. This wasn’t compared to our little pack house; I grew up in.
“The Alpha’s mate has arrived! Pay your respects! Our Luna has finally arrived! Everyone pay your homage!”
A guard announced as we moved. I shuddered in my spot, as everyone bowed down at me. The maids, workmen, and guards at their given posts.
We reached a quarter, and I begun to feel a totally different vibe from the section of the hallway. I saw another opening, with a woman in total black, bowing at something which resembled an altar.
“W-who’s that?” I asked the guard beside me.
“Dowager mother,”
As he said those words, I moved to carry on, getting an eerie vibe from her. She was dressed in all-black, covering every part of her body, minus her face. I looked back, staring at her, and she caught a glimpse of me, with blood shot eyes.
I immediately looked forward, snapping out of my daze.
What was I doing? I needed to focus.
“Here is your room, my Luna. The Alpha would be joining you soon.” The guard who has been escorting me, all along, said.
“Thanks.” I replied, opening the door to it.
“Call any maid or guard nearby, if you need anything.”
“I will…” I trailed out, running a hand through my frizzy curls so it stayed in place.
“I’m Kade, the Delta of Valmore pack.”
He said, just like he had read my mind. The Delta. So, he was Kai’s Delta.
The door closed behind me, leaving me alone in the room, as I sized it up. Four times bigger than my previous room, there were numerous high jars for water.
A large bed, just in the middle, with a burning fire at each corner, which lit it up. Wooden cupboards positioned at different sections, with a dresser. There were furs, made of animal skin at the wall, giving the room an essence of power.
“Perhaps, he lives here too.” I said to myself, pacing back and forth. My eyes searched at how I was going to keep my secret safe, when I would be living with him.
A knock high lighted the door the minute I sat on the bed.
“Come in.” I murmured, only to sight a young girl, about my age, entering. She had a maid attire, and her eyes was connected to the floor. “My Luna,” she started off.
“I’m here to take your measurements, shoe size, skin tone, and guide you on everything you need to know about Valmore pack.”
I stood up at her words, taking long strides to her.
“Your name is?” I asked.
“Capria, my Luna.”
I extended my gloved hands towards my back, so I didn’t hurt her. “It’s alright, you can call me Katara.” I said, but the minute I did, her eyes widened. Capria dropped to the floor, holding my feet.
“Please, my Luna! Calling your name would cost my life! I’m a new recruit, don’t make my stay short-lived!” she pleaded, crying out immediately.
My hands shook on spot at her actions.
“It’s okay, get up.”
She did as I asked, with her eyes still on the ground. “Capria right?”
“Yes, my Luna.” she answered hastily.
“The least you can do is look me in the eyes, so I feel sane.”
Her eyes still pierced to the floor. I had to use my hands to bring her head up, and her gaze met mine.
“Was that hard?” I asked.
She nodded a ‘no’ at my words. Hurriedly, she brought out a tape and commenced measuring me, doing the same for my foot. Her fingers glided my skin, to check my skin type, which I guessed was to make the right body fragrance.
“All done, my Luna. I’ll get going.” she said, with a bow, rushing out and closing the door behind her.
Poor thing.
She reminded me of myself, just in Artic Wolves pack. Timid, helpless, someone who had no choice. Hoped this new pack treated me like I meant something, at least, my life of suffering would be taken away.
As I moved to my bed, I heard another creak from my door. My wolf sniffled a scent approaching.
“Did you forget something?”
I asked, that instant. I blinked my eyes, not seeing anybody in sight. Thus, looking down only to see a young girl about five, coming through the door. Dirt was all over her face and her hair was disorganized, almost like a bird nest. Her clothes were in shreds and patches, with dirt on them too.
My hands clenched the bed, in awe at who she was and how she found her way here.
“Hello there,” I called out. She looked at me, like she was scared. Her lips in a pout, and a clean skin, which went down her face, like she had been crying.
“You’re the Luna who came to save us, right?”
I wriggled my brows at her words, making my way towards her.
“I’m Katara dear, what’s your name?”
“Elise.”
My hands rested on her shoulders. “What happened to you, dear? Where are your parents?”
“T-they’re dead!” she cried out. “Few days ago, my pack, the Carriers, were attacked and I got away…”
“Sorry dear, so sorry that happened to you.” I mumbled, feeling bad.
“I miss my mum,” she let out, sniffling more. I moved to hug her and she froze in shock at her spots. Even though I never knew actual parents love, I felt my heart soften for this little girl.
I had to do something, anything in my power to help.
“Come with me,”
I said, walking her to the tub which was just at an entrance. “Sit in.”
Just as she did, I helped remove her clothes, using some bath gel and sponge to clean the dirt off her skin. No little child deserved this, not at all.
“Thank you, Luna, you’re so kind.” she muttered, huskily.
“Wear this,” I said, giving her one of the night dresses situated inside a wardrobe. I combed her hair, and applied oils from the dresser, on it.
“There, dear,” I said, with a smile at her. She intertwined her fingers together, shyly, giving me a hair pin.
“It’s pretty.” she said, tucking it in my hair. Elise came down from the chair; twirling around in the night dress.
“I have to get going, My Luna.” she said. “I cannot be seen here by anyone,”
Alpha Kai’s POVThere’s always been this looming darkness in me. Something indescribable and dangerous. This made me feared, my ability to be brutal and cruel to core.“Alpha, we’ve captured them all!”It was my Beta Abramo, informing me. We had left for another territory, to meet our other warriors who we sent out.“Very well!” I mouthed off, with a smile. Following my Beta to the sight of the tied slaves, and the new territory in our possession. It meant our land had just expanded, by claiming theirs.“Good job, everyone!”I announced, to the Valmore pack warriors, who hailed and jeered in support.“It’s our pleasure, Alpha Kai!!!”The warriors bowed down at me, submitting. I waved my hands at them, bringing it to the middle of my chest, just as it was done in our tribe."I curse your clan!" someone suddenly gasped, from the captured slaves. It was a woman, with a fuming expression of withheld anger."Your descendants would kill themselves, for what you did to us! Your Kingdom would
Katara's POVI was on the verge of taking a bath when Capria in the company of two maids came in, their hands laden with clothes, shoes and adornment fitting for a real Luna which I hadn't been considering myself. They held up beautiful sequined dresses and floral dresses and helped me pick which I should wear. They accompanied me to the bath and literally didn't let me use my own hands because they'd been assigned as my personal maids. "Milady, you should not worry about us. We've been assigned to take care of you. To see to all your domestic needs,"Capria continued to assure me as I thanked them profusely for their troubles while complaining, simultaneously of how aware I was of them seeing my naked body. They giggled and turned away only briefly though."Don't you think I should also be able to lift my own hands for my use? These hands have known a great deal of scrubbing–" I said holding my hands up as they wrapped the towel around my body.I was dripping wet, as I stepped out
Alpha Kai's POVI'd left the Dowager mother just in time to go see some newly captured territories with my Beta, Abramo."Do ensure that Katara seeks nothing while I'm away."I'd implored my Delta. "Take care of her. Prioritize her over your life, she's my mate. The only one, for me.”I said and he nodded. I rode off on my horse in the company of my Beta, Abramo and twenty other werewolves warriors. We'd inspected the lands and did all we needed to before heading back to the wolfhound. ...As we began to approach, I saw a thick cloud of smoke, making the skies hazy. I hurried on and on getting to the pack house, I saw my Delta in the company of other men running to and fro, their intention to distinguish the fire. I looked around, Katara was not in sight. "Where's Katara?!" I barked at my Delta but he stood staring dumbly at me.I ran past him in my wolf speed and reached my chambers, where she would be waiting. It happened that the fire had only started to ravage the house.I ra
Alpha Kai's POV I, Alpha Kai, stormed into the Dowager mother's chambers. The guard at the door bowed deeply but I didn't pay attention to the guard. I reached the door and flung it open on my own accord before the guard was done prostrating. "Mother!" I called as I stepped in. "Yes, dear?" The Dowager mother replied me in her usual collected manner. She always seemed unruffled in the face of even the worst dangers. She was a woman who exuded immense calmness even in the face of troubles. She always had everything in control. But as I looked at her, I thought perhaps, she'd not heard about the fire that had threatened the life of my mate not long ago. "Mother, have you heard that my Luna's life was threatened today? Mother, you don't know how careless My Delta can be, can you?" I asked. She smiled and beckoned on me to come sit next to her. "I've heard. My maid reported to me. She mentioned how you saved your mate's life. She also mentioned that you eliminated two men
General POV"Believe me, Katara, it was for your good. They would have left you to die some other time, had I spared them!"He growled. He was getting impatient with her and his eyes sparked. His wolf straining to get wild, with desire let out anger. Katara recoiled. He stood up and said,"I'll be on a mission with my men, to capture territories and expand our lands and gain more power. Abramo will see to your needs till I'm back."He seethed, with a frown, walking out. Katara sat there, wondering why preying on small territories and bringing them under a superior power always mattered to Alphas. To her father, to Kai. Their quest for power was definitely insatiable.Alpha Kai's POVSo she didn't trust me, even though I'd made it clear that I did what I did for her? What if perhaps, she sensed the looming darkness, in me and chose to stay away? What if she knew I possess the power to control time and create fire. Ah! Fire. The fire she is afraid of.She must not find out. I'll do a
Katara's Pov"My Luna!"Elise came in, disrupting my thoughts. She exclaimd as her gaze rested on me. "Elise!"I called, surprised. "How did you get in here this time around?"I asked blaming myself for never going back to see her after the first time I met her. She looked happier than the last time, she'd adjusted and adapted to the environment and it warmed me. "Milady, I came to see you. The guard at the door refused to let me in even though I pleaded."She said. "So how did you eventually get in?"I asked, astonished at her level of intelligence. "I pleaded some more and he did let me in on the condition that I give whatever message that I bear, and go away!"She said, beaming. She was obviously delighted to see me again. I laughed and she did too. She'd begged and the guard at the door had allowed her in. I was relieved that the Alpha was not around to have seen or known that for his fiery temper, he might end the guard all in the guise to protect her. And that was somethin
General POV Katara dismissed the ladies and made her way out. She saw Abramo just around the door, he hovered around everytime, making sure she was safe and lacking nothing. "My Luna, where do you intend to go?" Abramo asked. "Well, I would love to take a stroll around and familiarize more with the wonderful people of Valmore." She replied, cautiously. "In that case, I'll be your escort, I'll show you around." Abramo offered as he dutifully led the way out the royal pack house. Katara stopped to say get familiar, with the children running to and fro. She saw Elise too and it warmed her heart to see Elise bubbling with life. Once again, she was grateful that sterling took time to feed the young ones. Perhaps, they have never been well fed in the past. Katara went around Valmore, the people prostrated and greeted her. They were happy that she was so warm with them, even happier when she reached out and touched the kids, played with them, even. She didn't think she would o
General POV Alpha Kai freshened up in no time and appeared behind Katara. "My Luna."He called and she jumped, nervous. "I'd like to speak with you."Katara said, her voice huskier than she intended. He'd appeared wearing loose breeches and a shirt that he deliberately left open. As Katara turned to look at him, her eyes landed on his bare chest down to his belly. She gulped. He was showing her, his taut tummy and his well formed wall-like chest."What do you want to talk to me about?"He asked, taking her tremulous hands in his own as her lips quivered. Her insides yearned for him, a part of her wanted more of all the tenderness his hard features could give and a part of her wanted to retreat. In fear, perhaps. As Kai held her hands, his wolf lurched forward, longing to be united with her.She felt the same way too, he could tell from how her hands trembled, trying to push the surge of desire back. He liked the way he ruined her train of thought. How he discomfited her and made
[Eight months later]Kai’s POV Katara had been with her ladies when she had been suddenly rushed out. I was right in the hallway, coming to the chambers to be with her when the ladies rushed her out. She was in labor and was going to give birth soon. I wanted to carry her off to wherever she was to be taken to but the ladies will not let me. "Let me carry her so it will be easier for you. Surely, you can not hold her like this and walk this slowly when she is in obvious pains." I tried to explain to the ladies but they will not hear of it. Katara was wailing as she took one laborious step after the other. I was not going to watch them continue in such slow progression so I brushed past them and whisked Katara off her feet. The ladies gasped in surprise but did not say anything when I began to walk away to the direction I suspected they were headed. It was to the midwife's place… Katara was still tearing at her clothes and thumping her fists on my chest when I arrived the midwife's
"It is perhaps by chance that I know this story myself. Now to the story, the men he had taken to form a pack had turned against him and had also taken with them the chest and had abused the magical items in it just as the son had done…They, captured many small packs and did many evil and perverted justice and looted packs and took the wives of others until the Moon Goddess had, had enough and the chest along with the items had disappeared on its own.”The men had thought that chest was stolen while they had slept, but when they could not find it, they had accused one another of the theft of the chest and they had fought and killed each other. For years, the chest appeared in many different places and so many packs had tried to open it to see its content all to no avail and then they had tried to keep it but it had kept on disappearing-“"Does that explain why we had seen it in a dilapidated house in the former Artic pack?”Kai asked. Abramo's eyes flung wide open in surprise. "Is th
The man explained. Kai had been listening attentively as well as all those who had been in the courts. I had been paying rapt attention too. At once, Abramo left the courts and went out to mobilize the men to secure the walls and the gates against any more miscreants. I could hear him shouting orders to the men as they ran to and fro. "The items are not yours to begin with. It is a bit difficult for me to understand how you have come to demand things that are not yours while trying to impress on us that you will take our fight and fight?' Kai said. He was angry as he spoke and the men did not speak for a long time. They were silent for a long while. "I will way you to leave Valmore now and we shall handle whatever trouble comes with the items we possess. It is ours to worry about not yours." Kai said. The men exchanged puzzled glances but did not make any attempt to leave. Kai stood there, brimming with anger as he watched them. "We are afraid you might be forced to submit the b
He said as he stooped and planted a kiss on my forehead. I nodded. I was not sure I wanted to remain indoors everytime if that was what pregnancy entailed. I was beginning to feel lazy. As Kai walked to the door, there was a sudden desperate knock on the door. He reached the door and opened it. The guard who was standing there was holding his sword by the hilt, he was breathing with so much gust and Kai walked with him down the hall, slamming the door behind him shut. I was worried as I leapt off the bed and went to the window to see what was really going on down there. There was an entourage and there were a few men on horseback. They were all waiting down the Castle floors, waiting to see the Alpha no doubt… I stood by the window for long, to see what was going to happen then. They did not look like they had come for peace. They looked like that were ready for war. Trouble. They did nothing to hide their intention. As far as I knew, Valmore was not in any trouble with any pack.
When I woke up, Kai was by the side of the bed. He had picked a chair and was sitting by the bed, watching me. I had no idea how long he had been standing there and as I opened my eyes to take in the environment, the bright afternoon light flooding the room, I was disoriented. "Relax, beauty. Hope you had a peaceful rest?" He asked as my eyes rested on him. I tried to nod but felt a sudden discomfort around my neck and so I ditched the idea. "How long have you been sitting there?" I asked instead. He smiled. "For a long time, beauty. A really long time." He said. He did not have the book in his hand again and he did not seem to be unkempt. He had even shaved! When had he done that? "You had the stubble last night and I've not seen you all morning Until now. When did you get a good bath?" I asked him instead. "I shaved last night. And, I was in here the moment you fell asleep to bathe and come watch over you while you slumber peacefully," He said. He was still smiling. I sighe
One thing I knew was that the Artic pack where not known for any form of magic even though it had grown in its time to become a terror to many other packs, it still did not possess magic and that was what I was sure of. Katara stirred on the bed while I was lost in thoughts and I turned to look at her. She opened her eyes drowsily. "Why are you not in bed yet, my love? You should come to bed now and have some rest," She said. She seemed to be having a hard time keeping her eyes open and I wanted her to go back to sleep "You can go back to sleep… I will join you soon," I said. She nodded and then stopped, her eyes flew open, wider. "Why are you still engrossed with that? You should leave that and have some rest." She insisted. I shook my head. She was being adamant. "Go to sleep my love. I will join you soon. I am only worried about a few things that I have found out in this book, " "Sitting up all night long will not solve the puzzle. I think so. perhaps, tomorrow you can cont
"You own it, my dear and you will make use of it the way you want.”I told her. She rose from the book and stood holding her wand. I continued with the book, the message became even more complex as I continued but I was able to grasp the messages and it included even the magical ability to grow a garden and chose the magical creatures to stay in it and tend it. There was so much knowledge in the book that I began to worry that the information was too much. "I am satisfied with the knowledge of the wand, i find it difficult to understand everything else you see in the book.”Katara said as she sashayed to the bathroom. "I will go have a bath now. Do not be too engrossed in that, hence you forget to do other things… one of which is getting up to come and take a bath.”She said as she disappeared from sight. I straightened up and took the book with me to the nearest table. I was still sitting there, totally focused on the book when she appeared again from the bathroom. She was drippi
It was a bit baffling that she was interested In magic suddenly and as we mounted the horse, I decided to ask her. She was still clutching the book and I had slipped the wand into the small bag I was carrying lest it comes alive and enchant the things around me that did not need to be enchanted."Why are you suddenly so concerned and Interested in magic?"I asked her. I hoped she heard since the horse was in motion and was whipping past trees and the wind will not let my words reach her as well as it should have. She heard me anyway. She had twisted her neck awkwardly to look back at me and speak as loud as she could. I kicked the horse and it slowed down. We are not being pursued. It was enough reason to drive calmly back to Valmore. The wind rushing past our ears were now calm and i could make out the words she spoke."I feel a certain sense of rightness with these... I value these things we found and I do not wish to lose any of them. I sincerely value them–“"I do not know why bu
The bolts had suddenly appeared and was to keep us still from using the door. It was amusing and and annoying at the same time. She seemed bent on not allowing us leave the place. I shook my head as I turned to her."Quit trying, Lady. We have to leave now."I said. Katara nudged me."Stretch the wand towards the door and it will come off." She said. She had sheathed her sword and one of her hands was now resting on the hilt of the sword. She was eager to leave. I turned away from Chloe and held the wand against the door. The door did not come open. Chloe chuckled behind us and the old lady stirred again. She was doing a good job of detaining us. She was almost accomplishing her goal which was to keep us until the old lady regained consciousness."Why is the wand not opening the door? Are you holding it wrongly?"Katara asked in a whisper. Of course Chloe and her mother did not know that the wand had only worked because I had struck it the right way without meaning to. Katara knew
