Angry howling filled the air as the wolves protested. They turned their bloodlust towards Selena, who still sat crouched near the cage.

“WHY?!?!” They roared, foaming at the mouth.

“Can you say for sure this is Lycan?” Selena protested, glaring back at them.

The group kept their stare strong as they kept growling, inching closer and closer with each passing second. “A werewolf this strong is too much of a risk to let loose.” A nearby Alpha grumbled.

He had buzzed gray hair and deep scars running from either corners of his jaw up through his eyes and to his forehead, connecting in the middle. His empty, white eyes seared through Selena’s soul. He was twice the size of the next nearby werewolf and was wearing a white shirt with its sleeves rolled up and black pants that were about to burst.

“Sir Arthur, if we don’t confirm his identity we’d be killing an innocent werewolf!” Selena protested.

Arthur growled as he took a step forwards, placing his large hand on the cage, denting a bit of the metal as he put more of his weight onto it. “That’s one less opponent we’d have to deal with.” His low, grizzled voice resonated with the other werewolves.

The group inched closer once again, more bloodthirsty than ever.

“Anyone who gets closer will have to deal with me.” Lio shouted as he stepped in front of Selena.

He started shifting as his skin became hidden with fur allowing a dark gray wolf to now replace his body. “How dare you disobey the orders of our Alpha!” He shouted.

The bloodlust died down a bit as some of the werewolves took a step back. Uncertainty began to fill them as they turned towards Arthur.

“If any of you think you should make the decision on what to do with Lycan then come forward and challenge Selena!” Lio continued to shout.

Once again they all shifted backwards, worried now more than uncertain. They started nudging each other and shuffling their feet as a few looked towards Arthur.

“What do you say Arthur!” Lio turned towards him, snarling and crouching low.

Arthur took his hand off the cage and turned around, slowly walking towards the elevator as werewolves moved out of his way. “I have no desire to become the Alpha of this alliance, however I don’t agree with Lady Selena’s decision.” He barely fit into the large metal box before disappearing behind the closing doors.

The other werewolves looked unsure of what to do.

Selena rose to her feet. “If no one wants to challenge me,” She roared, “Then move out of my way!”

As quickly as they could, the group parted, creating a long pathway for Selena towards the elevator.

Samson watched in awe as the entire pack followed her command despite being against her just a moment ago. “So this is what it means to be the Alpha…” He murmured to himself, slowly realizing this job might be harder than he first thought.

With the help of Lio, Selena took the smaller chains off Samson, keeping the large ones around his neck, wrists, feet and torso still attached. With no remorse she kicked him along, pushing him into the elevator, then into the car, then to her home. She continued to kick him until they arrived at the basement of their home. Before she took him down, she grabbed a silver pair of bracelets and snapped them onto Samson’s wrists, next to the handcuffs, biting her thumb before rubbing the blood onto them. With a sharp snap they tightened.

“Well, what are you waiting for, get in!” Selena growled once they had gotten down.

Samson looked around, studying the room. It was dark and musty, covered in a brown stone. Across from him was a large prison cell with a wooden bed in it. Just outside the cell were barrels and sacks of rarely used vegetables while to the left was a large crack in the wall, its extremities touching the ceiling. The smell of salt and blood wafted off it, catching his attention.

“Hurry up and get in!” Selena angrily kicked him forwards into the cell, locking the door quickly behind him.

She turned around, making her way towards the staircase when Samson finally spoke. “Wait.” He said emptily.

Selena stopped, wondering what the head of the Lacquer Clan had to say to her.

“Go out with me.” Samson asked.

A surge of anger filled Selena as she spun around. “LIKE HELL I WOULD!!!” She shouted.

Quickly, she stomped her way towards the cage, slamming her foot against one of the bars. “Do you know what you and your clan have done to us?” She asked, foaming at the mouth.

She’s mad?! Samson thought to himself, wondering what he’d done wrong.

Calm down, calm down, what would Lycan do? He asked himself.

“We did what had to be done, but that’s all going to change now,” Samson impersonated, “Because you’re special to me.”

Selena slammed her foot against the bar again, majorly bending it as she brought her face closer to him. “Slaughtering patrols, using them as target practice, raiding our territory in broad daylight, hunting us down like we’re some sort of game…” She started.

“Was that all something that had to be done?” Her anger fully visible now.

“Violently murdering each scout in front of another, cruelly kidnapping and brainwashing our pups, is that all something that had to be done?!” She slammed her foot into the bar once again.

Samson listened, attempting to interject but not seeing an opportunity.

“Picking up pups off the street and training them to do your bidding!” She yelled.

Samson snapped. “WHAT HAS THE ALLIANCE DONE THEN!!” He roared.

Shocked, Selena took a step back.

Be careful child, Penny advised her.

“Mass patrols into territories you know aren't yours, useless engagements, pointless scouting…” Samson named the few he could remember, “You send your fighters into our territory then blame us for killing them!”

Samson looked into her eyes, letting every bit of his anger out. “We aren’t playing a game, this is real life.” He growled.

Blood rushed to Selena’s head. “I don’t need some bloodthirsty freak to tell me that!” She protested.

“Oh really? It clearly sounds like you did!” Samson retorted.

Selena crossed her arms. “What was that you said earlier? Go out with you?” Selena asked.

“I wouldn’t stand next to you even if you were dead!!” She roared at him.

“Glad to know we’re on the same page for something!” Samson shouted back.

“Ugh! Now we’re agreeing huh!? I don’t have time for this, I have an important meeting with my only ally thanks to a certain mutt that I can’t miss tomorrow!” She shouted as she made her way upstairs and to her room.

“I wouldn’t want to be breathing the same air as a bonehead anyway!” Samson shouted back at her as he aggressively laid down on the bed.

Rage filled each of them as they un-eagerly awaited the next day, not knowing the events of it would bring them closer than they’d ever hoped to be.

It was early in the morning when Samson woke up. He could still hear the crickets chirping when his eyes slowly slid open. The room being dark as ever made it difficult to see at first but as his eyes adjusted he realized something was different. The prison cell door was open. What do you think Skull? Samson asked. MMmm, steak… The drowsy voice bounced around in his head. Right… Samson sighed as he pushed himself off the bed. Like they were made of paper, Samson effortlessly tore the chains off his body, being unable to get rid of the silver bracelets he shrugged and made his way outside. He moved to the cracked wall, investigating it thoroughly. Despite the scent of blood being so faint, he could still make out the bloodlust that lingered around it. When he crouched low he saw small salt crystals, barely visible to the normal eye. “They tortured someone here… or brutally killed them.” Samson murmured to himself as he made his way upstairs. As he opened the door, he entered a

Quickly he hung up the phone. Frustration filled Selena as she once again grabbed Samson by his scruff. “HOW DID YOU GET FREE?!!?” She roared at him, her fangs slowly growing. Samson stared back at her with a smile. “Wouldn’t you love to know?” He replied. With a rage-filled heave, she tossed him outside the office. “Never set foot in this room again, otherwise Lycan or not, I will kill you!” Her bloodlust filled the entire room. Once again, something snapped in Samson as a coldness settled in his heart. He looked down, glaring at her from the top of eyes. “Many have failed to do that,” Samson pushed himself off the ground and turned to face the hallway, giving Selena one last glare, “Do you really think you’ll be the one

She took a slow, deep breath, hiccuping through it as she agonized over the events that occurred over the last two days. “What happened Penny?” She whispered to herself, “Just yesterday morning the pack was fine…” Penny didn’t respond, pondering herself what had caused the rapid, unfortunate series of events to occur. Slowly, the silence thickened, sitting heavier in the room, allowing the distant sounds of the city to grow louder. A rhythmic pounding started, getting louder with pace. Bloodlust! Penny’s voice hissed. Selena looked up, anger washing over her. “It’s that bastard's fault!” She quickly rose from her seat. The pounding grew louder and louder until it stopped right outside the door. “What are you waiting for you mutt!” Selena shouted at the door. With a blood freezing cr

The room was large and surprisingly spacious for being on the third floor, having a ceiling so tall it could fit a giant. The ring in the center was slightly larger than most boxing rings and had a tall net on each of its four sides. The floor of it was made out of hard sand with the center of the ring having a small engraving of the Golden Gate Bridge in it. The far wall had been replaced with floor to ceiling mirrors and the far left side of the gym had all the weights and machines while the right side had a punching bag and some benches to sit on. Overwhelmed by the size of the gym, Samson meandered his way forwards, eventually making it to the ring where Selena opened a netted door to let him in. Once inside, he was hit with the rancid smell of sweat and blood. Quickly, he covered his nose, noticing that it was hard to move on the hardened sand. As she closed the door, Selena studied Samson, How was someone so… average able to push back brother… Selena thought to herself. Ther

“Fine.” Selena agreed bitterly, admitting that Samson had a fair point. Slowly, she looked up and straightened her back, feeling the dull aching from the crash spread from her spine to the sides of her ribcage. Once she had finished stretching she looked forwards, getting a faceful of fingers and palm instead of the expected sight of the destroyed ring. Samson lowered his hand further. “Here.” he said as he extended more. Unsure of what to do, Selena continued to stare at his hand. She studied the green veins bulging from it and the blistered fingers on it. After waiting for a few moments Samson pushed her, “Well, are you going to take it or just keep staring at it?” Samson said annoyingly. Timidly, Selena touched his hand. Once she had made contact with his fingertips, Samson latched onto it and heaved her up. “AAH!” Selena shouted, the pull had sent a sharp pain through her spine, “Can’t you be more gentle!” Samson shrugged before making his way back towards the ring. “Why him?!” Selena argued, “Why am I bringing the enemy with me to City hall?” Her father took a moment to think before closing the screen on his tablet. “With your older brother out today, there’s no one at home who can protect your mother and Anthony.” He reasoned. Anger swelled in Selena. “You’re acting like I’m as strong as him!” She yelled back. Her father closed his eyes. “You’re not, but should he cause a scene at City hall, will you be alone?” Her father explained. Selena clenched her teeth. As much as she hated the thought of taking him with her, he was right. At home he could run amok, especially if he truly let loose, that kind of strength could destroy not only their home but also the homes of humans living in the neighborhood whereas if he tried anything around city hall, there was no way he would live. “Fine!” She said as she made her way towards the basement. “Thank you!” her father shouted as she stormed down the old stairs, “I’ll leave the letter on the counter!

As Samson stepped out of the car, he lost his breath. “Wha…” He said inaudibly. Standing before them was a compact castle built in the center of downtown. It had a tall, cube-like building in the center with tall walls surrounding it a few feet away. Each corner of the wall had sharp, pointed towers, created to look like pine trees with small holes cut out for observing the public. The building itself morphed the taller it got, going from its cube-like base to having five tall cones pointed upwards with four of the cones being on each of the sides of the cube and the fifth cone being in the middle while being the tallest. On top of each of the cones was a statue. Even from below Samson could tell those statues were of past werewolves. “They’re of the founding fathers of the Golden Gate Alliance, Sir.” The driver said to Samson who continued to admire them. “You don’t say…” Samson murmured. “Come on, we don’t have time to stare at rocks!” Selena shouted at him, snapping Samson back

Samson admired the large and spacious room that was before him. It looked similar to a giant den with large, shiny white stones embedded into the ceiling lighting up the entire area like the sun. Just below the stones, hanging from the ceiling was a large clock that differentiated AM with a giant red half-circle and PM with a giant purple purple half-circle. Along the sides of the stone walls were giant steel doors, accented with gold and shiny, blue stone highlights. The middle of the floor they were one was open, revealing a bottom floor with a similar layout of doors being closed along the walls. In front of them was a large open staircase fashioned and chiseled out of the same stone the walls were made of, going down to that floor. To the right of where Samson, Selena and Castellan were standing was a desk with a woman busy calling different numbers and jotting down notes. Along the edge of the top floor were benches where werewolves sat and waited for one of the doors to open and

After a few minutes Selena was ready. She had put on a blue, long sleeve top, patterned with ridges and two buttons to expose more or less of her chest over a pair of light blue jeans. She looked at herself in the mirror, unsure of what the day was to hold for her. It’ll be alright dear, you’re not alone this time. Penny’s voice echoed in her head. A small smile crept onto Selena’s face at the thought of her words, relaxing her a little. I know, She replied before grabbing a small black satchel, pulling it over her head and leaving her room. Making sure to take her time, Selena slowly drifted down the stairs, hoping that Samson would be there, waiting for her. Once she reached the bottom floor, her heart sank as she saw no one but her mother in the large kitchen, reading from a magazine. Her heart started beating nervously, and her hands begged for something to fidget with. She took a shallow breath to calm herself and with her shaky legs, Selena slowly started moving towards her,

Samson nodded, lowering his head. Selena watched as a serious expression grew on his face. A chill ran through her as she realized what he was doing. He’s not playing around like last time. She thought to herself. “The best way to learn is through experience, so I’m going to come at you for real.” He said, getting lower to the ground before sprinting towards her.
